Japan’s moody trip-hop veteran turns heady atmosphere into high art

DJ Krush is one of the great originators of trip-hop, with a storied career spanning more than three decades. The celebrated Japanese producer’s eleventh album expands on his mastery of the genre, fusing foggy instrumental beats with moody guest vocals. Rain-drenched opener “Probability” and the slow orchestral groove of “My Light” sashay through the gloom, before the album blossoms with the thudding beat of “Sbayi One,” featuring the elastic rapping of Crosby Bolani and the atmospheric hip-hop of “Future Correction.”
