Breezy goes long with a dark, sensual two-disc odyssey

Beyond the headline of its ambitious, prog rock length—forty-five tracks comprising more than two hours—Chris Brown’s eighth record is primarily a work of kinetic, freewheeling immediacy. Recorded over a fruitful two-year period, Heartbreak on a Full Moon is both a double-underlined, blockbuster testament to Breezy’s creative gift, and a diary-like tour of his evolving psyche. On “Rock Your Body” he channels dancehall, “Party” sees him enlist Usher and Gucci Mane for a fully turnt club-shaker and “Emotions” hitches vulnerable, sleepless paranoia to honeyed R&B.
