The pianist and vocalist’s second album for RCA continued the genre experimentation established on Sings the Blues. Here, she leans into harder R&B grooves during “Some Say,” as well as on Memphis-style opener “It Be’s That Way Sometime.” But because her talents are so diverse, Simone also glows in softer arrangements on tracks such as “The Look of Love,” and she expands her catalog of Civil Rights-themed songs with performances of “The Turning Point” and “I Wish I Knew How It Would Feel to Be Free.”
