Chart the irrepressible, unpredictable evolution of one of Britain's great bands

Once they'd made their explosive breakthrough with 2005's “I Bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor”, Arctic Monkeys' ascent to Glastonbury-headlining alt-rock nobility seemed assured. As predictable as it was, it's been a thrilling rise—executed with adventure and confidence. After the stirring garage-rock vignettes of debut Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not and 2007's Favourite Worst Nightmare, each subsequent album has delivered increasingly assured forays into new sonic territories. They've given us Josh Homme-assisted desert-rock (“Crying Lightning”), psychedelic pop (“Black Treacle”), Motown ("Snap Out of It") and G-Funk ("Why'd You Only Call Me When You're High?”). Throughout, the constant has been Alex Turner's lyricism: kitchen-sink poetry littered with arid wit, pin-sharp cultural observations and compelling personal insight.
