I’m No Longer Afraid To Dance Tonight ...

I’ve read so many reviews of this record, each hailing Ought’s likeness to everyone from The Fall to Violent Femmes, Talking Heads to Patti Smith - When it comes down to it, you just have to believe what you want to believe and hang the rest. As eye catching as each of those comparisons was for me, I hear a record that gets me excited about guitar music yet again. I hear excellently penned lyrics delivered with a verve and sardonic passion that sounds as fresh as a slap around the face. Vocalist Tim Beeler comes across like a young, Iggy Pop-idolising Jimmy Stewart from an alternate reality (ok, I couldn’t resist adding my own ‘sound like…’). The chiming guitars, dreamy, droning keyboards and snappy rhythm section are awesome … I have to keep on pressing play when it finishes. For me, that’s the mark of a great record.
Some reviewers will try to sink ’Sun’s Coming Down' before you’ve had a chance to make up your own mind by cursing it with the dreaded hipster tag. Don’t listen to them. If you can resist such a fantastically cohesive album with songs like ‘Beautiful Blue Sky’ and ‘Never Better’, you might need to check your pulse for signs of life. Recommended - Definitely, without doubt, one of the best albums this year.

The fall and joy divisions baby

As the title suggests , these are brilliant , hopefully along with total control , Vietnam conflict and protomatyr marking the return of decent good old fashioned guitar music for the mases . Let's face it modern music is shocking , but with band likes these waiting by the side lines , could just be the start of a movement , a musical return to talented bands getting credit they deserve , listen it's an artist at work . Brilliant album . Amazing band .
