Saw these with iron maiden in 2017 and loved the music from this album and others since getting it.
The mark of a great album, when an hour or so goes just like that
This is my first Shinedown album and I've had it on repeat. I absolutely love it. I can't understand why some people don't like it. But you can't please everyone all of the time.
Having been a Shinedown fan since SOM, I purchased this on release day and when I first listened, I couldn't get my head around it - it felt different and unfamiliar.
2016 led to me seeing the band twice - Carnival of Madness at Wembley being the first and wow! Was totally blown away by the bands performance of these songs and this led me to listening to the album more and more. Now I cannot stop, it's grown on me and I love it to the point that I'm worried that the next album won't live up to it. Just love the depth to all the songs - some may say over produced, but they manage to carry them through to live performance perfectly which is why they are a great band to see live.
We keep having debates over what is our favourite tune on the album - can't do it - love every single track in equal measure. Don't dismiss the album on a first play - it's truly epic!
Never heard of, or listened to Shinedown in my life before this album. And now I'm hooked, what a great rock band these guys are! Lots of energy and the lead singer Brent Smith can really belt them out. Rock on SHINEDOWN!!! 🤘
Awesome album from an awesome band 💜💜🎤🎤
It's not a bad album, it's a sad album. A great band gets radio friendly and churns out this. Gone is the lyricism, hard riffs and spine tingling epics. It's just Shinedown Lite. Half the calories, half the talent. Half the impact. 2/5
This album sounds like the offspring of a Shinedown 1D one night stand. Why!! All previous Shinedown albums were epic, but this.....if I wanted to listen to (which I don't) Rihanna, One Direction, or any other repetitive pop poo, I wouldn't have come to the Rock section of Itoons to find it.
Shinedown, I'm not angry, just very disappointed!
Have been a Shinedown fan for a long time and up till now every album has got better. As many other reviewers have commented this is clearly intended to be a more commercially accepted album, which I don’t have a problem with. However, the sound is over-produced, particularly Brent’s vocal which is too smooth and lacking the grit of earlier work. In my opinion electronic drums have no place on a Shinedown or indeed any rock album. I enjoy a swelling power ballad but there are too many and they lack the wall of sound you got on early work. Finally, it feels a very short album with all but one of the tracks less then 4mins. A number of my favourite artists have fallen into the trap of trying to make an album to appeal to the masses but usually they get back to just trying to make a good album next time out…
Let me start by saying yes
Fantastic album esp: "Dangerous" and "How did you love"
Shine down are back baby !!
Absolutely love the new album. All adds up is definitely a new favourite
Fantastic album that doesn't let up for a second. Special thanks to the boys for gems such as "Asking For It", "Cut The Cord", "State of my Head" and especially "How Did You Love?"
Fantastic. Haven't been able to stop listening to it.
Far too poppy. Very disappointing. 'Cut the Cord' is epic but you can definitely cut the rest.
Absolutely cracking album, they've put their heart and soul into this and it shows. They just get better and better, a true fan will support their band no matter how they evolve. Good job guys, you nailed it!
Bought this a few times on a few different formats including a signed copy, was very excited for it but if I'm honest it's lacking, cut the cord got my blood pumping & wanting more, I love me a ballad/soft track but there's a limit, almost every track is, the odd few, yeah! Fair play but almost every track?, hopefully they'll go back to their more rocking roots at some point, still a big fan/support of these guys!
Super album. First off.
Modern rock sound. Second.
Brent Smith, vocalist and prime song writer, makes no bones about writing the most catchy and commercial songs he can. He wants Shinedown songs on the radio.
So what you have here is a prime slab of modern radio friendly rock. Gone are the days of grunge southern rock. We are now in the naughties with an updated sound, and all ear candy.
Threat to survival, lacks the heart of Leave A Whisper, and the power of Sound Of Madness.
But it does have your ears for 40 minutes. 5 Listens in one day, what a relief to have the guys back on form.
I wish i could give it 6 stars
Compared to SOM and Amaryllis this is a bad album! A few good tracks but it's lacking the heavy stuff! Too many choir sounds and soft tracks.....
By many bands' standards this is an incredible album, songs like 'Cut The Cord', 'Dangerous' and 'Black Cadillac' are awesome tracks. However, having been a Shinedown fan for many years I can't help but be slightly disappointed by what unfortunately is an over-produced album. Where are those raw guitar riffs and epic solos from previous albums? This happens far too often with rock bands, Shinedown proving it can even happen to the best.
Oh dear. Plodding, repetitive, anthemic nonsense. I expected, and they are capable of, so much more. I believe That nowadays they are writing music to sell huge quantities rather than writing what they want to write and hoping it sells. It will no doubt sell zillions of units, but can they look at themselves in the mirror? Lazy. Very lazy.
I have been waiting for this album for three years, Cut the cord is a fanominal song which fantastic beat and lyrics. Then along came Black Cadilliac and this beat was so different, but the lyrics still have a fantastic effect. The last two songs are just as fantastic, Shine down are an amazing band with such a variety of music that is so different and you never know what to expect next. well done with this new album and I can not wait to hear the rest.
Was so thrilled to see Shinedown are back - and man was I amazed! Cut the cord had me drumming along with its sheer epic-ness, Black Cadillac is amazingly catchy, but for me State of My Head is a true masterpiece that is gonna be in MY head for months! I'm so excited about these songs and getting ready to hear the rest of the album - I know I'm gonna be playing these on repeat for months!!!
This new music is a real experience with every single aspect taking my breath away - I never thought they'd be able to create something I'd love even more than their old stuff, honestly I need to stop gushing but I'm so hyped right now - honestly if I could give these songs a ten out of five I would!!
I've been listening to shinedown ever since leave a whisper! Seeing them first in the uk in 2009, I've been a die hard fan since I first heard "45" and with each album there's a different vibe, giving this band a fantastic variety and their pure talent shines, so excited for the rest of threat to survival! Loving the sound of it up to yet!! Keep it up Brent, Barry, Zach and Eric! See you soon!
If this is the opening shot of their new album then bring on the salvo! Can't wait until 2016 when they tour the UK...welcome back boys!
They're back!! What a crackin' way to return with 'cut the cord'!
