superb!

The album seems to have thrown up some difference of opinion, but trust me this is one of the best things he has ever done and will become a classic.Weller is one of our finest songwriters and true meanings further demonstrates why.Beautifully crafted songs and instrumentation. For those not as keen at the moment, stick with it and you will be rewarded.Classy indeed

Reflective and very beautiful .....

After reading a review likening the orchestration to Nick Drake’s stunning ‘Bryter Layter’ I bought this album and I am SO glad I did. It is reflective and very beautiful. For me, it feels like the ghost of David Bowie wanders through the album, Paul Weller’s voice is sublime and the orchestration is magnificent.
I’ve found it beautiful and moving to listen to.

Weller worth it

His best album for many years.

Dreadful

What an absolute pile of tosh. Yawn, yawn, yawn. Every single track is low(no) tempo dirge. Weller has lost his way. Once, many years ago, he mentioned that at one point in the Style Council he was just messing around and seeing how much he could get away with. This seems like he’s at it again but this is just miserable dirge. He’s 60 now and apparently to old to rock anymore. As long as the Stones, AC/DC and the like are still banging it out, there are no excuses.
Massive disappointment.

A Masterpiece

Having grown up listening to PJW this is quite simply something that you cannot fail to love, it’s mature depth is a masterpiece of his work From “Soul Searchers right through to “White Horses” there simply isn’t one bad track on this album and if you don’t like it your not listening.

beautiful

A true listening album that takes you on winding roads through mountains, valleys and forests of sound and meaning. At the very least, a yearly treat forever more. thank you Paul.

Melancholic melodies. Certainly not “same old”

We love this recent release. Full of thought and feeling. Most definitely NOT same old.

Tenderness magnified

Orchestration makes this a mellow outing. Reminds me of Nick Drake’s Bryter Later album. I must say I like this at 3am. But it wouldn’t get me out of bed (like Saturn’s Pattern would) the next morning. There’s a coming to terms with life’s grandness here. Books, Soul Searchers, What Would He Say for example. But what a writer. What a musician. Integrity plus. Beauty is truth.

Yawn

For too long he's played the same trick? No melody to speak of and sounds tired. Hey let him indulge it ain't hurting anyone

Utterly Beautiful

Probably his best work since 22 Dreams. A truly beautiful album with stunning melody and thoughtful lyrics.

Dreary

Same old dreary tuneless stuff for old people-takes itself far too seriously and not one tune on the whole album

Absolute Dross

Every single track is a boring durge. If you weren't depressed before you certainly will be after listening to this. Every track sounds the same, weak. True Meanings? The true meaning is he has finally lost it. Every album after Stanley Road has got worse and this finally hits the bottom of the barrel.

Chas 1966

An album that starts slowly but goes out with a bang. For far too long I’ve been saying PW is up there with the best song writers in the world. Sorry, he is the best. 40 years of shear class.

Dull and Depressing

I’m an Apple Music subscriber and I downloaded this. I’m glad I didn’t go out and pay for it which why I subscribe instead.
Every song sounds the same as the previous song. Ok so you guys like to listen to the words.
Yet the songs sound dull and depressing for me personally.
I wish the singer well though. Not everyone can like the same music.
I have to laugh at some of the reviews here. A legend. Master piece. LooooL deluded or what. Paul is going the same way as Paul McCartney. Time to throw in the towel

Music for old men.

I turned 60 myself this year..this is the kind of stuff my grandad would have listened to...in the jam every song meant something he spat most of those lyrics out...style council I didn’t get ...the solo records got worse as the years passed...now this..come on Paul there must be something the annoys you , sing about it crank those guitars up, get us all bouncing again .

Excellent

Proper music for grown ups. A combination of modern soul ballads with a jazz influence. Still one of the most underrated and talented musicians in the world.

Thoughtful and bittersweet

I’ve played this several times this morning and fallen in love with it already. There are some gorgeous, well-crafted and heartfelt songs on here. Very different from his last album, Paul just keeps on changing and his song-writing keeps getting better. Beautiful.

Tremendous

The Changing Man does it again! He just gets better with age like a good wine. Nothing on this album is repetitive as Weller delves into soulful ballad folk like songs which have been produced brilliantly without being over produced. The orchestral backing on the tracks I have so far heard are classic.
He just rolls on!

Wow

I’ve never been a Jam or Paul Weller fan (sorry Paul) but I heard ‘Movin on’ on the radio and I thought ‘wow, who is this, I love this’
Such a great song and sound.
I’m now a PW fan 😎

Masterpiece from a Legend

Having had Paul Weller as the backing track to my life from the early Jam days to today, from what i have heard so far, this is another step along the way to immortality for the legend that is Paul Weller - An album of soulful ballads - what more could any Wellere fan ask for!

Same old same old

I was a big Paul weller fan following his career from the jam onwards, but I find his solo work quite repetitive and boring ..die hard fans will probably like it regardless.
