Rock n roll is dead

As the 1975 say, the era for this music is over. If this had been released 8 years ago it would have made it bigger, but it also would help if the previous two albums don’t sound exactly the same. Not saying any of these songs are bad by any means, they’re just nothing new.

Comfortable inside the Box.

Catfish’s latest album attempt at trying to enamour their faithful fan base aims to predictively stay inside their box for a third time. Keeping their hedonistic lyrical style with the bands’ signature sound; and the loud, pumping, hallowing vocals of Van McCann. The third issue is actually surprisingly better than the second album as it harks back to the first album, the naivety and more emotional sounds of note are found on the latter half of this album. The song “Encore” emphasises this statement. While Van and co. admitted to having planned the trilogy of cohesive sounding albums within the safety of the box they define themselves the detriment is that it hasn’t in many ways shown any progression or change in styles. Which you can admire but it brings in the labels of “one-trick-pony”. While their sound is catchy and addictive, the forgiving nature of the fans can ultimately placate Catfish for years to come. The hope of more “Cocoon” and “Tyrants” sounding tracks isn’t so much to wish for, but it’s definitely in front of them and waiting to be found. This latter third of the trilogy is a better attempt at recapturing the nostalgia and feeling of the debut. It works in parts but is less than the sum of its whole.

Disappointing!

Like other reviews, this album isn't great and has a repetative sound to it. Don't get me wrong I'm a big fan of Catfish and the Bottlemen, however none of their newer songs have come close to topping anything off their debut album, The Balcony. I hope they didn't peak with The Balcony, but this album is a long way from the quality they can produce.
I'll give the album more time, but at the moment none of the songs are standing out.

The more you listen to it, the more you love it

Longshot sounds great
It sounds better and better with every listen
Been waiting for Fluctuate, such a fantastic song
Heard it live and it was absolutely brilliant.
Unfortunately, doesn't sound as good on album as it did live, but still a brilliant song
At first though Conversation was so poor: lyrics and topic don't sound like banger and quite repetitive
But now becoming prominent song in my head
Agreeably, not near quality of first album: Homesick, Pacifier and Cocoon are my favourite songs they've done
But it does grow on you

Repetitive

Catfish’s first album was top class, since then with the second album and the first few singles releases from album three they’ve spiralled out and become quite boring and repetitive. If you take the time to actually listen to the songs since the first album you will notice that they sing the first verse, the chorus, the first verse again with a slight change and then the chorus another few times. There is no variation or creativity like in the first album and it’s very disappointing as they are capable of so much more than they have shown in the last couple of years. Hopefully the rest of this album is different but I’m not filled with hope.

Same same same

Don’t get me wrong, I don’t think catfish have ever made a bad song, but they just KEEP making songs that all sound the same! I’m bored of the same sounds over and over, they need to change it up a bit or they’ll just become one of “those indie bands”
