Don’t get me wrong here but this man has serious talent and one incredible voice. I have also purchased all his material thus far including this new album. My biggest issue, given that aforementioned talent, is a serious lack of proper songs. There are for me, about 3 memorable tracks on this project but the remainder just lack any hooks that make you want to go back and listen time and again. It’s all a bit self indulgent with little space for that wonderful voice to really shine. The quality and musicianship is exemplary as expected but the mixes are tough on the ears. Due to too many vocal layers and little headspace for things to breathe. Less should be more when you have such a unique voice. Give it space on the next project and link up with some great co-writes to help with the strength of the songs. Someone like Brian McKnight for example. Maybe even a great cover tune. ‘Too High’ by Mr S Wonder comes to mind. Come on Jarrod, you have the such ability but you can do better than this. From a slightly disappointed fan. 😕
