A Deliberate Departure
Finally, Steps 2012 Christmas Album is available on online music platforms. This album was a deliberate departure away from the classic Steps sound that was known between 1997 to 2001. Released after the success of the reunion album and tour, this album served its purpose to give something back to the fans in the way of new material.
It was always supposed to be laid back which is what you will get from this album. The recent albums ‘Tears On The Dancefloor’ (2017) and ‘What The Future Holds’ (2020) bring back the Steps sound whilst progressing it on.
Light Up The World brings you some wonderful ballads to relax to. It features the song ‘Light Up The World’, which was Steps first original song since they split up. The online album packages the 7th Heaven remixes too, which are a delight - and also includes a nod back to the classic hit Tragedy.
The album features some great vocals and harmonies from all 5 members. A great album to sit back and relax and listen, or maybe whilst wrapping those presents at Christmas.
As mentioned, this was never supposed to be like their previous albums - and bridged the gap until 2017, so enjoy the album for what it is. If you want something faster, poppier and more upbeat, then go for ‘Tears On The Dancefloor’ or ‘What The Future Holds’
