I've been trawling record stores and itunes in an attempt to find some decent music....this album can only be described as a work of art, buy it and you will not regret it, it is a little gem, the like of which is becoming increadibly rare.

A Masterpiece that close the Grunge period
This album is masterpiece! if you like the fantastic music style of the 90', buy it!.
I'ts a real shame that those guys did not carry on to produce others albums togheter.
Above closed the amazing Grunge era and open the dark ages of the RNR music...

Incedible
I agree, this album is an amizing peice of work. Layne almost at his best right after AIC self titled.

Not just a side project
You should really ignore the dismissal in the main review of this being just a side project, Above is one of the strongest albums to come out of the 90s Seattle scene. Along with Jar of Flies and Sap this album is one of the only ways to hear what may have been if Layne Staley had not retreated into the solitude that eventually contributed to his death. As much as I love AIC, Staley's lyrics and sound against a less metal based background are astounding. The Lanegan collaboration on Long Gone Day is also one to savour and wonder what could have happened had this friendship worked together more.
