Top Notch

A great album, helped by Jools Holland, Rod still has his recognisable voice, and with Jools Holland providing the music, makes for a great album, personally I think better than some of his older stuff!

Wow

What a great album. I can’t listen to this without tapping my foot. Rod & Jools, what a combination. I’m sure this will be a classic album. Hope there is a volume 2.

Sailing on swing

Been there from the start of rod’s career. Still good. Can’t see Harry Styles doing the same.

What a great effort.

Interesting and absorbing album. So good to see this pair combing to show what can be done with a up dated version of classic numbers.
Very well done boys, (well, old boys)

Excellent

Those giving it one star and complaining his voice is gone, need their hearing seen two, it's not bad, and he has always had a unique voice.

Swing fever

Sorry but please do not buy it. Rod s voice isn’t suitable for swing plus he should retire as his voice seems to have gone. This seems like a desperate money album.

Not even worth one star.

It’s like karaoke night in the care home I worked in. Time for a toileting round and this needs to go straight down the pan.

Time to retire gracefully

Rod’s voice is weak and showing his age. It never really recovered after his throat operation. Time to stop performing!
Jules Holland as always, a brilliant pianist and band.

Pathetic!

Oh dear Rod

My respect for you as an artist stems from 1972, when you were the guy I wanted to be like. Foot loose and fancy free.
I can't even listen to this though, just not my kind of music. Just keep to the rock please with some new wonderful songs.

Rusty!

Rod’s voice is well past it but this is pure class musically!

Great selection of standards

I like this selection of swing classics and there's plenty of raw energy in both the vocals and the orchestration. A good companion to his American Songbook series.

Brilliant collaboration

It is a brilliant mix, which brings out the best in both artists, more please.

Had my Doubts but…

Jools Holland can do no wrong in my book but must admit to being a tad concerned about this pairing.
Thought Sir Rod would overshadow JH and would his voice work?
He doesn’t and it does!
Great collaboration and Jools please add 2x longer R&B Orchestra solo’s in each and every tune next time round!!
Thx both …

Brilliant

Really good album. Rod has always crossed genres and has the voice to do it. If you are looking a bloody good, feel good album that makes you want to get up and dance, this is it. Perfect for spring /summer parties!

Why?

Only listened to one song and then said ‘no’! Don’t understand why Rod feels the need to make these kind of albums. Awful!!

We are the people

Indeed wee definitely don’t all love you in Bonny Scotland, not good at all might have been a good few years ago but he can’t sing now and they are ruining decent songs ….we are the people

Dreadful

Songs I have heard so far just prove Rod's voice is past it as a singing performer. (Has been for many years.) Musically nothing new. It is sad is going out with such trival.

Still has it

I really disagree with comments that Rod's voice has gone. I think he still delivers a great performance. The problem I found with this new album is that it is a very different style of music from what we are used to hearing Rod sing. And while his voice sounds great I just am not a swing fan so will pass on this and hope he goes back to what we love him for.

Time to say goodbye

Long, long overdue Sir Rod hung up the microphone and retired gracefully. His voice now sounds like someone suffering from a mixture of asthma, a long night out and laryngitis. Has been great over the years but at his age, with a worn-out voice he is no longer the rocker who belted out hits like Hot Legs, Maggie May and Sailing. Gone on too long, time to say goodbye.
