A truly awesome album!

I’m one of those who’s come late to Opeth, I was there in the days the NWOBHM but have been away from metal for too long, it took my 23yr old nephew to bring me back with this utterly incredible album of some of the finest music ever made. Like many others, for me Reverie/Harlequin Forest is the standout but all the tracks are 10/10, the range, intensity, subtlety and sheer inventiveness is breathtaking. I also love they way they blend in those veins of blues, jazz and folk with the metal power and make them an integral part of the sound, not just a nice diversion. So now I have a whole canon of work from this remarkable band to discover, Blackwater Park is amazing too. Fab to be headbanging and thrashing air guitar again at 60!

Opeth - Ghost Reveries

Opeth's 8th studio album - "Ghost Reveries" - is their first for Roadrunner Records.
For me, this is the pinnacle of Opeth's career. Everything here about Opeth's sound fuses together - their death metal sound combined with their more softer, prog rock sound.
There isn't a clear crystal concept on this record - whereas 'Still Life' had a concept, but it's definitely something that is more occult. I really love the album artwork as I think it sets the tone clearly even before you've listened to it, it's dark and mysterious.
Now the album itself is only eight tracks long, but the album does open with two ten-minute tracks: "The Ghost of Perdition" and "The Baying of the Hounds".
I've always come back to this album as it was the first Opeth album I heard and it became my favourite.
5/5

Who the "£$%&* are Opeth???

I have to say that the title was my initial thought on buying the God Of War 3 soundtrack.Forgive my ignorance...I now appreciate the quality of this album having listened to it twice back to back...it's that good.A mix of the growly stuff and some beautiful vocals intertwined with epic song construction.Talent is not in question and this is apparently the album to introduce yourself to Opeth with.I listen to a lot of stuff...Karnivool,Chimaira,All That Remains,Trivium,Rush,Maiden,so I think I am fairly balanced and I hope this gives you the insight to purchase this album as your start point for Opeth...Enjoy! Your only here once...

"Mistythecat" is so ignorant its laughable.

This album defines everything great about expressing yourself through music. Mistythecat should stop being a sheep and realise that other genres of music actually exist too.

Simply amazing

Opeth have offically become one of my favourite bands with their mixture of death metal/progessive rock and acoustic music. Mikael Akerfeldt's vocals range from poetic(Isolation years) to guttural roar(Baying of the Hounds), and not one track disappoints on this masterpiece of an album. For epic prog rock genius, listen to Reverie/Harlequin Forest which is 11 minutes in length and tell me your not impressed! I will definetely be checking out their earlier material as this is REAL music and not pop tripe like Scouting for Girls.

Masterpiece

Opeth achieve perfection on this album, with flawless guitars and amazingly well constructed songs. Buy the whole album! And when listening look out for Reverie/ Harlequin Forest and Baying of the Hounds =)

Ghost Reveries

Reverie/Harlequin Forest is the best track off this album, and one of the best tracks that Opeth have done. Mikael's growly vocals have improved on this album and Lopezs drumming is great as usual. For more long term Opeth fans i think that this album may take a while getting used to?...For newer fans i think its a great album to start off with. I recommened ever metal fan to buy this album.
