Not The Full Show

This somewhat lo-fi recording was originally issued on a two-hour double cassette as 'Live 1989'. It was also edited down to fit a single CD. Bizarrely, it's the CD edit that's now available here.
As this is one of the finest stand-up performances I have ever come across, I would have been happy to pay for a download of the full version but will instead have to convert my old cassette tapes into iTunes.
Hopefully the copyright holder will make the full show available at some point in the future.

Continuing the theory...

This album continues to prove a little theory of mine (Ben's all into theories at this spoint, so I'm sure he won't mind) - the further back in time you go, the better Ben Elton becomes. Squeezing this one in just before the end of the 80s, he's very much on form in this album - defining the "farty" people - you and I - as the majority who are brutalised by the marketers and garnishers of the world, and first coining the insightful phrase "The Reality Gap" to describe the increasing chasm between reality as it's experienced and reality as it's advertised. Things I Thought I Owned won't make any sense to anyone born before 1980, but the rest of us cheer heartily, so just go with it. The entirety of this album from Part Two on is a masterclass in political and human comedy, as everything from the swing top bin to the fridge to the motorway network and the "development" of Antartctica are brought together in a way that will have you howling with laughter, and switching on your brain. This is classic Ben Elton from a time when he was both funny and relevant. Get it...get it now...

Funny but not new.

I like Ben Elton, but most of the material is old although Ben says 'all new material'. I assume that although it has been released this year (2007) I think it must be an old live performance. For example Dianna and Charles not being a good match. But if you have'nt watched him before then it's worth a listen.
