amazing!

the songs all manage to each sound different and unique whilst still sounding similar to one another and in keeping with the general sense of the album and the band. my favourite is definitely No One's Gonna Love You, the chorus melts my heart. it's closely followed by Is There A Ghost.

Cease to Begin

Great album, new brand of indie that goes along with the likes of the Postal Service. A perfect chill out album that just has track after track of perfect lyrics and melodic backing.

Pleasing more people, more of the time.

Not quite as interesting as their more eccentric debut album, but a terrific piece of work just the same.

Lovely album but here is a suggestion..

I agree with most of the other reviews. The album is pretty and mellow and a pleasure to listen to, however I don't feel enough emphasis is placed on my personal favourite track.... "The General Specific"...
I really like this song and no-one has really mentioned it, so I thought I should! It's a fabulous song and you can really hear the country roots of the group.. So in addition to the other popular tracks from this album, this would be another good one to choose.

Fantastic indie album

Vocals have an "east-coast" Californian vibe to them. Guitars are, pardon me, typical of the Sub Pop stable. Good driving bass and drums. What is stand out about this band, is the tunes and lyrics are relatively distinct...they are genuinely good and talented.
You will not go wrong buying this and try and see them live.

A gem

Guys at work pointed me in the direction of band of horses, I was expecting some generic jangly indie record and was blown away when I heard it. Its a beautiful record and really pulls on the emotions on a couple of tracks without being overy syruppy. Unfortunately I missed them play the UK in Feb, but hear that they are awesome live. Shall keep fingers crossed they come back soon. I know it was released last year but its my record of the year 2008 so far.

Fantastical!!

Good old Jools Holland, this is another excellent band I’ve discovered thanks to him!! Every one of these tracks is first rate and I will be recommending this band/album to my friends!
Big fan of the Foo’s and the only similarity I can make out apart from being outstanding musicians, is that they are American!

Class

I too heard 'Is there a Ghost' on Jools Holland a week or so ago - Best rock track of the year hands down, a phenominal beginning to an album. 5 stars for this track alone!

GREAT!

My friend introduced me to this band by playing me the vid for "is there a ghost" on youtube...instantly hooked. Really really good music, every song has it's strength!

Crazy Cool

Heard Is There A Ghost on radio1 (which i hate but accientally switched onto it) and immediately loved it, got the album and i have to say its very good! Of course Ghost is easily the best track (the lead singer sounds so much like early ozzy osbourne but in a good way!), but other favourites include no ones gonna love you and islands on the coast.
Yes they do resemble the foo's but only slightly, they have a sound all of their own, after a few listens you'll be hooked!

I love it

People have been saying that they resemble the Foo's, can't hear it myself. All I can say is that I love it and Ghost is just a fantastic track, just too short.

lots of stars

absolutely thrilling to see the development of a band that obviously had promise at the offset. From the urgency and tempo of the first track to down tempo country via harmonies Newman and Case would be proud of this collection of songs has little to fault it, save for the fact that they have only provided ten slices of aural massage. Get it and widely seduce all those people you know with functioning ears and even the hardest of hearts.

Much better this time.

Band of Horses' 'Everything All The Time' had a few awe inspiring tracks('The Funeral'), but the rest was just filler really. 'Cease to Begin' is a triumph. I didn't know what to expect from it but they have went back to their country roots and it seems a much more natural effort. This is what country music would sound like if it was written by angels, and with vocals reminiscent of Wayne Coyne and My Morning Jacket's Jim James, it's hard not to get lost in this album. Favourite track has to be opener 'Is There a Ghost' it sets the benchmark for an extremely good album. Much better second time round for Band of Horses.
