This has its roots even further back in history than their previous work.... this music celebrates the years before The Mayflower sailed. It's a much more varied album than any of their previous ones, with a pan-European vogue - the courts of Italy and Scotland, the peasants of Cornwall, the vast level sands of Numidia, the forests of Northern Germany. What other band has even a tenth of the scope and vision? There are also real songs on here, almost a nod to modern popular music in their structure ("Black Sun"), that sets the scene nicely for the next album Into The Labyrinth. A triumph.

I have always loved Dead can Dance and truly believe they're something special! This album is amazing, I'm loving "As the Bells ring the Maypole" if you haven't heard it already, you MUST listen to the Host of Seraphim.!x
