I love anything the Stranglers do but this album was different to their usual sound and took a few plays to get into. Their best work came with their first three albums but this is certainly a good listen. I'm glad I persevered.

One of their best
I remember buying this album on the day it was released back in ‘82. I was a young punk rocker, still at school, and I remember being horrified at this far removed sound from the Stranglers that I had come to know and love. But I persevered with it, my small amount of pocket money meant that buying a cd was a rare treat, so I stuck with it and this album lent to some great memories from that time that come flooding back whenever I listen to it today at a ripe old age of 52. The years have passed and my music taste has mellowed a little and now I can fully appreciate this album as a masterpiece with every band member at the top of their game. There’s some lovely sounding lead and bass guitar, in fact every instrument in the band blends so well together to create a dreamlike landscape that is so easy to lose yourself in. I have every Stranglers album but I find this is the one that I come back to the most often, this one and Meninblack, both excellent albums and highly recommended by myself.

A change of direction
But still worth a listen , still play this when in the mood still sounds good.
