I’ll admit it

Okay I’ll admit it. I’m a Jeff Lynne fan and am always interested in those he works with to see how it works. So having come across this ‘very strange’ (on first listening) music I’m now totally sold on Regina. What beautiful music; I’ve now bought the early stuff too as it too is brilliant. Don’t concern yourself with what brings you here, once you’re here you are going to stay. Pure talent.

Inspiration.

Reginas work is always of an exeptional standard, and this album is no exeption. It has inspired me to write music and create covers of her work, especially Wallet and Eet. I would recomend it to anybody who appresiates acctual music!

Boring , bland and misleading.

Out of the whole album i only find 2 songs I'm able to listen to, the others are so BORING with bland lyrics and terrible tunes aka .. Machine, wallet, eet etc, so to be honest if you like boring songs you'll surely forget, buy it! 😂

Possibly the best

I am the only one who like Regina Spektor in my house and I this is only because I really like her quirkiness and eclectic style. However, it seems to be a more mature album than her previous ones and I am unsure if her characteristics got lost in production. On the other hand, her music is great anyway. I really like her albums!! I can't stop listening to them! Favourite songs are Eet, Blue Lips, Folding Chair, Dance Anthem of the 80's, Genius Next Door and Man of a Thousand Faces. I really suggest buying this. Her songs are still quirky and interesting.

Awesome

Regina spektor is a captivating artist and from the moment you hear and understand just one song you'll be hooked. Some of her fans don't like this album but it's my favourite. It's another beautifully made album and nobody can take that away. My personal favourites are human of the year and genius next door, but they're all great. This albums definitely worth the cash.

Most of these songs are actually really old but it does lack the edge to regina's music.

Should have been magical

I too feel that the album is a little overproduced, and has lost some of the magic, however there are still some cracking songs on the album, in particular; Eet, Genius Next Door and Folding Chair. Blue Lips begins beautifully, but then someway through the magic is lost.

Not as good as her last album

Too commercial and too much effort to make the bigtime. I love Regina, her old stuff and her last album in particular but 'Far' has lost the quirkiness and variety of her previous work.

Reggie scores another hit !!!

Another triumph, yes more polished and produced than her earlier stuff. But lets face it, she could sing about a toilet and make it poetry. Lived up to all the hype...Love it

Regina

Although i enjoyed the album, i do feel it lacked some of the magic of her earlier albums such as soviet kitsch, when it was just her and the piano. She seems to have taken full advantage of sounds effects in certain songs, which is to my liking, but i do prefer songs which demonstrate simply her piano skills and vocal range mixed with her amazing song writing ability. Another nice album from Regina, although certainly not my favourite.

why why why?

some may say progressed, id say sold out a little. the magic of soviet kitch, 11:11 and all her earlier works has pretty much vanished beneath, in my opinion, needless other instruments and a more popular sound. it makes me sad

A new direction for Regina

The eagerly awaited 5th Regina Spektor album has arrived. And with it comes some of the inventive writing and musical smorgasbord that one has come to expect of Ms. Spektor.
Although this album has been more heavily produced than others, it still maintains enough personality and quirkiness that Regina fans crave with songs like ‘Wallet’ and ‘Dance Anthem of the 80’s.’ However, new listeners will be able to enter through songs like ‘Eet’ and ‘Laughing with.’
If there is one slight niggle with Far, its the fact that arguably the best song on the album, 'Laughing With' is spoilt when a drum kit enters?!?! (For a perfect example of how it should be done- see Sampson in Begin to Hope)
Far is a fantastic mix of innovation and musical design, and is definately well worth the money.
P.S. I wouldn't be surprised if I hear Dance Anthem of the 80's on an iTunes advert soon!

Beautiful....

There is not a song on this album which I don't get excited about. Like the artist herself, Regina's songs are enchanting, refreshing, and just downright beautiful. Fans of her earlier work will probably say it's "over-produced" (after all, just give Regina a piano and magic will happen) but I would argue that some of the tracks really benefit from the resultant epic sound. "The Wallet" is reserved for those who crave the cutesy Regina who earlier brought us such songs as "Ghost of Corporate Future." For anyone wondering whether to get the bonus tracks I say DO IT! "The Sword and the Pen" is one of my early favourites.

Brilliant!

This album is not her best yet (I somehow prefer Soviet Kitsch) but is very entertaining. It has jolly, summery songs like Folding Chair then hits you with emotion in Blue Lips.
Eet is one of her usual amazingly random songs, whilst Laughing With seems to be her interpretation of religion - and as can be seen, an ecletic mix of music.
Definitely recommended - 5*s

A marvellous album.

She's done it again. I'm glad to report that Regina's newest album is just as swell, if not better, than he previous albums. My anticipation shot up after hearing the (amazing) single 'Laughing With', and while it still stands as probably the album's best track, the others are brilliant as well. Bravo. One of the best of the year so far.

Great, again.

I have been a Regina Spektor fan ever since I heard "Fidelity" on the radio and ended up with all her albums not long after. Although this album is certainly more "produced" than some of her other work I was still very impressed, and given that each album has its own feel / identity, I did not feel that this was too great a departure from what I loved before. My one slight concern is that this slightly more commercial / accessable sound is not the begining of a change due to a small push from the label...

Worth the wait!

Like many, I am an avid Regina fan and thus appreciate all the different forms of music she has catered for:- wrap, pop, folk, anti-folk, rock, country, and so many countless others. In this album you have the rocking, almost ballad like, 'eet' and the fun 'jamming' quality to 'The Calculation', yet there are the classic Regina songs that remain nearly untouched, but perfect gems of her talent- 'Wallet' is one such example; thus this album even caters to the 'purists' amongst Regina fans; those who preferred her 'Kitsch' material as opposed to the produced 'Begin to Hope'.
Regina had toured for three years after the release of the highly successful 'Begin to Hope', and now, after the three years of touring, she has produced (with the assistance of several highly acclaimed producers, including Jeff Lynne) 'far'- with a "little f".
Regina has combined new with old in this stunning masterpiece, taking familiar songs that her fans love- Time is All Around, Dance Anthem of the 80's, Man of a Thousand Faces, Folding Chair, Genius Next Door and Human of the Year- and newly created nuggets of musical genius, and blending them into an album.
Regina surely deserves a top 10 hit with her moving 'Laughing With' toying with concepts of religion (something that runs deeply through many of the songs) yet Regina, in many interviews has stated she is merely 'thinking aloud' and not developing a manifesto of what she thinks in regards to religion.
In short, this album has received great positive reviews and is surely set to launch this wonderful musician into the mainstream where her true talent belongs- effectively upstaging most artists in the top 10/ or top 40 presently.
Don't hesitate to buy this fantastic piece of art, as the money would be well spent- not a single penny wasted.

Good!

Another album from Regina Spektor, and it's great. My favourite tracks are Eet, Blue Lips, Folding Chair, Two Birds and Human of the Year. It deserves to do a lot better than some of the stuff that's in the top 10 at the minute!

Brilliant - but don't let these rich people ruin it!

As always Regina has produced an utterly breathtaking album, with variety and beautiful tunes. But, a hard but to say the least, that some of the songs (Blue Lips & Folding Chair) they seem to add more to them to make them 'sellable'. As in the motown background in 'Blue Lips' just ruins her soothing voice and beautiful lyrics. A great album nevertheless :)

Eagerly Anticipated

Another brilliant album from Regina Spektor. The album is great from start to finnish with the songs ordered well giving a sense of the album as a total work. The album is a progression from previous albums, each track, however, retains the quirky nature of story telling that is a great feature of all of Regina Spektor's songs.

Magical, but slightly overproduced.

I adore Regina, I really do. I just love everything about her music, I just find her hypnotising and so original, quirky and unique, but talented as well. But in a strange way that's the point - it's her quirky, unique music that makes her so appealing and, well, Far, like Begin To Hope before it, doesn't represent that side to her very well. Sure there are moments, flashes of the real Regina, such as 'Dance Anthem' and 'Wallet', but new versions of live songs such as 'Folding Chair' just seem a tad too glossy for me. Don't get me wrong, those songs, and this album in general, is still fantastic, and I genuinly adore every song, it's just that I feel it comes across a bit too comercial, a bit too glossy, not allowing for some of Regina's edgy, perhaps less-comercial but still widely loved, vocals. It seems to like, and I might be wrong here in which case I'm sorry, that Regina or at least her label, are trying to market her at a wider audience. If this is the case then I think that in doing so there's a risk of losing some of those original fans, who love Regina for who she is.
In general, a wonderful album that I'll no doubt be playing for months to come, but I'm going to see her in Hyde Park on 29th June and I hope she'll be performing some of her older music as well as songs from this album. Still, this is an amazing collection of songs it really is, and well, well worth the money.

Regina Spektor is back!!

I listened to most of these tracks before buying and they just sounded so magical that I had to buy ... I've heard other tracks by her before off Begin To Hope and Soviet Kitsch but this is the first album by Regina Spektor that I've actually bought and after listening to it in full, it's definately worth it. The songs are just so magical and beautiful. So if you're hesitating about buying this, I'd say go for it especially if you like her previous albums! The bonus tracks are great too!
