Rock perfection

For me, the greatest hard rock album of all time. Not a duff track on it.

Probably the best pure rock album ever..

Stunning debut album which they were never able to follow up. All tracks are superb but of course Space Station No. 5 and Bad Motor Scooter stand out as absolute classics. The clean sharp production by Ted Templeman is perfect to showcase Sammy Hagar's vocals and Ronnie Montrose's crisp powerful guitar. This album has not been bettered 40 years on.

Make It Last

Frankly I am amazed at the review for 'Make It Last' - the lyrics are not at all 'silly', in fact they are, if you take the time to listen and understand, quite profound. This track was always my favourite on an album of classics. The riff is equally profound in it's simplicity and the solo is a great example of restraint and skill. I am baffled as to who actually writes these reviews .. maybe some kid in Cupertino who was born in 1995?

One of THE big debuts of 70s rock.

Certainly up there with Boston, Van Halen and Ted Nugent. 'Make it last' is wonderful for its simplicity, but there ain't a weak track to be heard. I'd also recommend Paper Money though!

Get On Your Bad Motor Scooter And Ride....

The best debut rock album ever made. So good, in fact, it was impossible for them to follow it with anything better. The motto must be then, don't peak too soon! Eight marvellous, classic rock tracks. If you buy only one 70's heavy rock album, make it Montrose. Believe me, there isn't a better one. Simply stunning.

Old Grey Whistle test

Yea, I did the same thing. Heard them on the programme and went out next day bought the album. Done that with Black Oak Arkansas too, they supported Black Sabbath a few weeks later on a British Tour to promote Sabotage. Never forgotten Bill Ward in his red tights behind the drums that night.

Unbelievable Space Station

Every now and then, browsing through iTunes, you come across a seminal album that has yet to receive a single review. In this case, I'm astonished.
Montrose in its time was a ground-breaking album. No group had created such a massive sound before. I refer, of course, to Space Station number 5.
This track was, for many years, held up as the standard by which all heavy rock should be judged.
The rest of the album is good, too - but if you're at all into heavy rock and you haven't got the Space Station in your collection, well then you ain't into heavy rock, my son.
