Great !

I think this album is great but I still think that he should do lots more albums because I love his folk sort of voice and I like the fact that all of his songs tell a story !! X

Great Secon Album

I only stumbled across hand built whilst trawling the bargain basement of itunes but what a revelation his album was , powerful lyrics superb guitar led music and raw quality that is missing from todays overproduced tripe being churned out for "Da Kids innit". The second album I would have to say is a tad overproduced but there are still gems in there such as " If this is it" which seduces you gently into the song before kicking your teeth in at the end. A lot of atists suffer second album syndrome and to be honest newton could quite easily have blown it with this but its saving grace is that the album provides us just enough songs of the same evocotive style and quality that hooked us on the first album. Overall its a decent 6/10 but it could have so easily have been a perfect ten if he had just trusted his gut instinct and developed his style whilst being true to roots rather than allowing some luvvie darling producer destroying his songs. However that apart this is stil a great album and it does grow on you given a chance but theres always that nagging feeling that some arthouse producer thought it might be a good idea to try and turn Newton into a postar rather than give us what we want raw, powerful.,intense well thought out roots music.

A brilliant album, and an enormous improvement over his first

Newton Faulkner, on his second album, which is about ten times better than his above-average but forgettable debut, stops at nothing to demonstrate his fantastic and astonishing talent at complex folk and pop rock music. This album is chock full of great tracks, including the instant classics "If This is It", "Over and Out" and "I Took it Out on You", the heart-meltingly beautiful "So Much", the funky and dynamic opening song "Badman" and the cheery numbers of "Lipstick Jungle" and "Let's Get Together". "Resin on My Heart Strings", "Been Thinking About It" and "I'm Not Giving Up Yet" are relaxing and light, and even the lesser songs "First Time" and "This Town" are excellently written and performed. The other little tracks interspersed throughout are not as ambitious of course, but they're good at bridging songs together. Listen to the entire thing all at once and you're given a splendid, addictive listening experience from one of the biggest music geniuses of the 21st century.
Newton, I can't wait for your third album. This one is nearly a masterpiece, so my expectations are very high.

Missing something

Hand Built by Robots is still one of the most played albums on my playlist and I was really looking forward to the follow up but the spirit of the first album is missing from this one, it just feels over-produced. It's not soulless by any means but - to me - it's not the Newton Faulkner I enjoyed so much in the first album, or in his live shows.

Newton is AWESOME

Honestly i didnt know he could produce a better album, this is just comfort listening and brilliance time after time, if you liked the first chilled out album you will love this one, its simply ever track is listenable, and loveable, every track is brilliant and newton manages very well to make his album have highs and lows, chilled tracks are surrounded by brilliant lively and vibrant tracks, really well done newton!
a change from his first 'rawer' album but nevertheless a brilliant 2nd album, he's just developed his sound, he hasnt rushed this album
absolute must listen to tunes are over and out, first time, lets get together, i took it out on you, if this is it
just buy the whole album! well recommended, absolutely brilliant, every track is from a very well developed perspective

LOVE LOVE LOVEEE !

ahhh, absolute Newton faulkner fan - when the first album came out listened to non stop. Saw him at glastonbury two times and he played some of his new songs and i couldn't wait for them to come out !
Love 'badman' - some haven't topped 'dream catch me' and 'i need something' and others yet but i've only just started listening to it so i'm sure they'll all grow on me very soon !

So glad Newton is back

The album I'd been craving since I finished listening to Hand Built By Robots and I've found myself craving for his next one already. Sam Newton Battenberg Faulkner is back and is leaving his mark again. Although it may not share the same catchiness and perfection as Hand Built By Robots,it does not miss the mark at all. Using his well-known techniques,he has strummed up an amazing second album including my personal favourites: Badman,If This Is It,Lipstick Jungle,Let's Get Together,Won't Let Go,This Town and Over And Out. If you have not been privaleged by listening to this album, please do.

Fantastic.

It has a different feel to his other album, and personally I prefer it over this; nonetheless this is a fantastic album, and "Resin on my Heartstrings" is just beautiful.

Love it :)

This fantastic album has one vital thing in common with the first - there are no songs you skip, each one has its' place. Soothing, relaxing, uplifting, exciting, he's just great - also wonderful to see live!

It's not Handbuilt and it is a grower

I am a reasonably recent Faulkner convert, having only got round to buying Handbuilt about six months ago- during which time I've played it to death and am not nearly sick of it. Rebuilt by Humans is different, so if you are expecting more of the same, initially you could be disappointed. At first it sounds over produced, possibly a little wet, even slightly annoying- mediocre at best. However... if you persist with it, as the other reviews suggest it really does grow on you. I f I had rated it in the first couple of days of owning it, it probably would have got 1 star; ask me again in a month and it wouldn't surpirse me if I gave it 5 out of 5- at the moment, it's comfortably a 4 and I'm looking forward to getting to know it better. I don't like Badman yet, but am adoring Soundwaves. Great lyrics, great tunes and a great perspective, absolutely worth £6.99.

Rebuilt By Humans

newton is back with his second album and there are some definate acoustic gems on this album including 'i took it out on you' and plenty of catchy uplifting tracks. the album doesn't quite flow as well as his last and on a few tracks they sound over-produced but overall he is absolutely brilliant in the studio and live. 4.5/5

Good, but not as good as 'Hand Built'

This is a good album, starting brilliantly with 'Badman', 'I Took It Out On You' and 'If This Is It', plus with the great track 'Lipstick Jungle' in the middle, but where Hand Built By Robots continues in a great vein, the songs on this album sometimes blend and are fairly forgettable, like 'First Time', 'This Town' and 'So Much'. Don't get me wrong, it's very good, and I would recommend seeing him live because he's brilliant, and very funny, but if you're a newcomer to Newton, start at the beginning.

More quality tracks from Newton

I wasn't sure if Newton Faulkner's second album could be as good as his first, but as soon as Badman kicked in I knew there was no need to worry.
Badman is an uptempo foot tapper of a song that will have you starting it again as soon as it's over!
Another favourite of mine is Been Thinking About It, an understated and emotional slow number. This is followed by the quirky and light Let's Get Together. All the interludes between songs provide interesting guitar instrumentals and add personality to the album.
This album might be even better than the first! Buy it!

V. enjoyable... as expected

Overall, a great return by Newton. Though, the album lacks a bit of that acousic quality that made his first album so good. Lipstick Jungle, Badman, Let's get together & Been thinking about it are great!
I would have loved for Newton's Radio 1's Live Lounge cover of Foundations to feature too, it's brilliant & so funny! :)

Absolutely Essential!!!!!

WOW! What an album if you loved Hand Built by Robots then this is essential to add to your collection. I was fortunate enough to see Newton Faulkner at York Grand Opera House last night and hadn't listened to the new album previous to going. What can i say????? Not only is he mindblowing live but he is a real gentleman and his interaction with the audience was fantastic!!!!!!!! The rabid Pirates didnt go to plan (!) but it was amazing nonetheless! The final song he unplugged and give us an Acoustic Finale, mesmirising! Its one of the best gigs I've been too and if you can get along to see him, GO!!!!!!!!!! You wont be dissapointed!
The Album is now on the iPod and wont be coming off!!!!!!!! Just to add NF was supported by Lisa Mitchell and she was amazing. While Im on it I'd certainly recommend her if you like the stuff by Newton!!!!! BUY this album and crank it up, an amazing array of songs and will listen to over and over again.!!!!!! A+++++++++++++

Truly Amazing. So Worth The Money & The Wait.

Ever since it was announced that this album was to be released, i have been gagging to get my hands on it. It had a lot to live up to from Handbuilt By Robots, but Rebuilt by Humans was so worth the wait, and has easily equaled the perfection of Faulkner's first album. Furthermore, along with Led Zeppelin, Newton Faulkner is the only artist to give me tingles when listening to their music. Easily worth the meagre 7.99 for such an album.

what have you done, Newton Faulkner?

I was a huge fan of Newton Faulkner, when he released Hand Built by Robots back in 2007. It was such an original album, that incorporated so many different styles of music from acoustic melodies to ragtime.
His sophomore effort is just massively disappointing. The album doesn't encapsulate the listener with his huge talent and musical ability, instead coming down with the "second album syndrome", that has unfortnately enslaved so many bands in the music industry.
I really don't know why Newton Faulkner decided to go down this route. In my opinion, he would received huge praise if this album was like his first, just for the originality factor.
Adding an orchestra in his music wasn't in my view a very smart move. It doesn't gel very well with the music that he creates.
The only track worth listening to is Badman, which is the only track that only truly resembles Newton's musical style.

ONWARDS & UPWARDS

Reading the reviews below, the vast majority are like me, completely blown away by Newton's genius and gob-smacked that he could produce a follow-up, not only to match, but exceed Handbuilt by Robots. There are also the usual one star haters, sad, bitter people who probably didn't even buy the album. However, there are a few that claim to be disappointed Newton fans, who use the words 'over production', which really means they prefer Newton's more acoustic tracks. Fair enough, but as a Newton fan from way before his first album, I can only say that this album has a huge range of tracks that really should please everyone - from Been Thinking About it, which was recorded live with just guitar and voice, to the big productions like If This Is It and Over and Out, which are obviously mainly intended for radio. IMHO I think it's got everything that Handbuilt by Robots had and more, but the most exciting thing is looking forward to seeing what he does when he plays them live - I'll be right at the front, if possible, watching those magical fingers and feet!

Oooohhh...

I thought the first album was fantastic, nothing short of amazing, a refreshing shot of reality after all the sausage factory sameness thats always flooding the market. A real good voice, amazing songs, that particular sound that makes you keep listening. Unfortunately his follow up is nowehere near the same. Good, but different enough to dissapoint. I know artists are supposed to grow and evolve, but not into something worse...

Utter Genius

I loved the previous album! I couldn't download this new album fast enough I was that excited! Was it worth it? Absolutly! All the quirkyness of the previous album with some serious and not so serious song! Anyone who has the previous album and likes it should download this! Incredible! Thanks

Over Produced

The first album worked because it was a bloke with awesome ginger dreads and his guitar making good music. There was little else to it give or take the odd backing singer and hand shaker rattle....thingy.
The new stuff has far too much going on in the background and has lost the 'raw' sound; but do not despair! She's Got the Time 2 is hilarious.

The album of the year

If you got something out of Hand Built By Robots, you need this album too. It still has his quirky guitar playing and his relaxing voice, just this time there's a little sometimes more. It's almost a 50/50 between the happy songs and the more emotional filled ones. With the balance, it makes a very good listen !
I liked Newton Faulkner from his first album, but this album made him my favourite male artist. With 18 songs (19 if you buy from itunes) he certainly isn't stingy with his music! I say you buy it.

Not a grower but an instant favourite!!

I loved the last one too so I'm not new to Newton but I've been listening to this CD for last two days and can't stop. Instant favourite! Love the lyrical slowies like So Much and Over and Out but also the jolly tunes too, especially Won't Let Go and of course If This is It. FABULOUS Love it, love it, love it!!!

Another stella album

I have been eagerly anticipating this album all year and it has definitely been worth the wait.
"So Much" and "Over and Out" are beautiful songs and definitely stand out on this album. I also love the references to his debut album "Handbuilt By Robots" with the title of this album as well as the song "She's Got The Time".
This album has definitely cemented Newton as one of the UK's leading male artists. I hope he is touring soon as I hear he is a delight to see live.

Welcome back Mr Cool!

Since the last track on Hand Built by Robots, i've been longing for a second album from Newton! And, wow, he hasnt dissapointed. It is so refreshing to here an artist like Faulkner not constrict his music to the restraits of main stream pop/indie. Deffinitly a more experimental album than the first, which is only a good thing. As a definitive track on the album, Over and Out wins for me. The haunting piano throughout, the gracious strings as it climazes at the end of the song, the evokitive lyrics and wonderful sentiment of the song makes it a true winner, and cements the album as a 5 star piece of wonderful art, drama, and poetry. Well done Newton Faulkner.

Different

I've been a huge fan of Newton for quote a while now and I was so excited to get my hands on this album. Over all it's a very good album, my favourite track being 'Lipstick Jungle', but I just don't think it matches up to his debut, 'Handbuilt by Robots' in the sence that there's not as much of the raw guitar playing magic that many people originally loved him for. All that said it's definatly one to buy for Newton fans.

Fantastic!

simply awesome! Over and Out, Badman and I'm Not Giving Up Yet are tunes that immediately come to mind. it's got more to it that the first in terms of the recording. Newton's moved away from the simplistic sound of his first album, but has absolutely hit the nail on the head with a new style (something which muse didn't quite pull off this time). a good mix of his older style with his new but a fantastic album all round! sit back and watch this stay at the top of the charts where it belongs! well done!

Fantastic!!

'Rebuilt By Humans' is quite honestly, a masterpiece! If people enjoyed the first album then they will love this. Newton has really gone to work with the lyrics on this record, and the melodys are just beautiful and that's just the vocals! The guitar work is classic Faulkner but better! The best album i have bought in a long time and already can't wait for the third! Can't stop listening to all the tracks! Well done Newton! 5 Stars!! *****

Wow ...

This album is yet more proof of Netwon Faulkners incredible ability in terms of song writing and producing - his song If This Is It blows me away ever single time I hear it, with deep meanings and hard hitting realism. He seems incapable of creating a terrible song - go Newton! :)

Awesome album

I bought the last album and loved it but this album is even better. It's that rare album you can listen to from begining to end with no skipping forward to the next song and Newton Faulkner's voice sounds amazing. He just gets better and better. "If this is it" is my favourite at the moment but "Resin on my heartstrings" and "Over and out" are close second. The more I listen the more I get out of it. This guy has got integrity and has clearly made the album he wanted to make. It's refreshing to hear someone doing what they want and being really successful too. Buy it now, you won't regret it!
