THOUROUGHLY DEPRESSING AND BLOODY AWFUL
I think the country has gone mad.
I'm all for supporting the troops, all for donating to their charities, but I find a lot of the choice of songs in this album thoroughly Morbid.
I've got a very close friend still out in Iraq still doing a dangerous job and I know without a shadow of a doubt he'd be unimpressed with me, his parents or his siblings if he thought we were spending our time sitting at home agonising and listening to this bilge while he was away.
I think the song 'Coming Home' is dire and the general tone of this album seems to be aimed at making everyone miserable about the fate of our servicemen, rather than giving any hint of hope or brave stoicism.
In fact isnt it interesting that Itunes lists alongside this album amongst it's Itunes Essentials ... 'Funeral: Songs of Mourning'!
That's not ill thinking on Itunes part, they've hit the button on where this album fits and right now I find it in very poor taste.
There's a time for an album like this and that time is AFTER operations NOT DURING.
This feels less like respectfull support for our service people and more like national misery bandwaggon jumping for the X factor generation.
I particularly found the use of the Last Post amazingly bad judgement and would question whose benefit is it for ... Serving Soldiers, their families, the bereaved?
In any circumstance I dont see how that particular piece of music is a comfort to anyone!
I'm not one for jingoistic tubthumping, was opposed to the war in Iraq, have grave doubts about Afghanistan, but really dont think that anything positive can be gained by an album of songs that are meant to be supporting our troops but are primarilly themed around sad ballads.
Surely there is room for something a little less defeatist than this?
The nation needs a good slap around the head and told to pull itself together. By all means honour those who have lost their lives but lets have something a bit more upbeat for those still living.
