Meh!

Bland, boring, MOR band, with several albums to match, unless you’re a fourteen year old, brooding and misunderstood teenager! Actually, their albums should be removed from all sellers sites on moral grounds, bearing in mind the evil deeds their former front ‘man’ got up to when he was free!

Ian Watkins is a convicted Paedophile sentenced to 35 years in jail. All Lost Prophets albums should be deleted... shame on you iTunes.

Great.

After Liberation Transmission this darker album is such an improvement! Definitely shows how much Lostprophets have matured in their songwriting and style. Still keeping it anthemic with Where We Belong, amazing songs like Darkest Blue and Dystryr Dystryr . Love the detail and depth in some songs like The Light That Shines and A Better Nothing and the instrumentals are back.. Much, much better!

A genuinely good album

If you're reading this and wondering whether to buy it or not I urge you to get it.
I wasn't a huge fan before I got this album and it sold me on lost prophets.
its one of the best albums ive bought in a while and contains some brilliant songs.

Must have for LP fans!

This album was a must have for me and when it came out I wasn't disappointed. I listened to the album first on itunes before I bought it and I haven't found a song that I haven't liked. Each song has there own agenda which makes this ablum so good, compared to Liberation Transmission, The Betrayed goes back to some of Lostprophets earlier work and lives up to expectations.

Very impressive stuff

very very good album, extremely varied and a blast to listen to. The inner cynic in me would say that its TOO varied, having no defined genre, from screamo to relatively calm but it adds to the skills of the band members that they're so broadly talented. Favourite songs? Darkest Blue is an incredible track, the lead singer really utilising his vocal chords and creating a passionate song and Where We Belong because its old skool Lost Prophets, really catchy, great lyrics and song-along-to-able. Great album and some brill songs well done lads!

Trying Too Hard?

As someone who has followed Lostprophets career and seen them 9 times in concert, I've become accustomed to their evolving sound, this particular album doesn't disappoint per se, but it isn't as strong as earlier efforts. Some great tracks nonetheless, Dstryr/Dstryr. If It Wasn't For Hate, Where We Belong and Streets of Nowhere are worth a listen. It just all feels a bit forced, as if they are trying to prove a point at the expense of the music itself. If I was going to listen to Prophets I'd still go to Start Something and Liberation Transmission before reaching this, but definitely worth getting some of the tracks off it. The singles themselves are very strong.

Underated!!!

Yeh this is not Shinobi and people have given the prophets crap for not making such material like their old, but tell me what band sounds like their first album.
Musicians and true musicians can often search for new sounds or new directions to broaden their skill as a musician.
By no means do I think the prophets have taken a turn for the worse with this album.
For any true prophets fan, a must have record.

Absolutely Fantastic!!!

I've been a Lostprophets fan for a while now and I can safely say this is their best album ever. Every song on the album is fantastic and the variety of the songs is also mightily impressive. The songs are like a fusion of their two previous albums (Start Something & Liberation Transmission) with awesome heavy songs, catchy anthem tunes and the addition of dark, brooding ballads. The lyrics in each song have real emotion and feeling in them, whilst their instrumental work is absolutely amazing. The songs also follow on into each other (similar to Start Something) which gives the album the sense that its a story through a character's life of hardship and grief, which gives the album more heart and emotion. Overall, brilliant work guys, I love it.
If it Wasn't For Hate We'd be Dead by Now - 9/10
Dstryr/Dstryr - 9/10
It's Not The End Of The World But I Can See It From Here - 10/10
Where We Belong - 10/10
Next Stop, Atro City - 10/10 (This is my favourite song on the album)
For He's A Jolly Good Felon - 9/10
A Better Nothing - 10/10
Streets Of Nowhere - 9/10
Dirty Little Heart - 10/10
Darkest Blue - 9/10
The Light That Shines Twice As Bright... - 9/10

A predictable failure

So, the vastly delayed and well anticipated lostprophets album has arrived, begging the question "just what have these guys spent the last 3 years doing?" Nothing, apparently, as this collection of dull pop songs proves. With the guitars unable to play more than one riff per song, and sometimes just one riff repeatedly for a whole track (the darkest blue), these songs fail miserably to compete with earlier classics. And surely the 'heavy'(lol) song, dstryr/dstryr should be a doddle for a band rooted previously in nu metal? Nope, grating vocals and hilariously unheavy guitars (learn some powerchords, please) ruin the one song with potential amid this sea of blatant mainstream pandering. If you listen to music because its cool, you will devour this. If you crave originality and song- writing prowess, you won't.
Oh, and please cut the "we are still working class kids from Wales" spiel of 'for he's a jolly good felon'. You live in LA and bathe daily in pool of money. There is nothing wrong with this, but you just cannot support both your grsssroots image and your rock star lifestyle without appearing arrogant hypocritical. Rant over.

OK.

I've never bought a Lostprophets album before but was let down by this one. After hearing such hits from the album such as Where We Belong, It's Not The End Of The World and For He's A Jolly Good Felon (which are undeniabley fantastic) I was expecting to hear a whole album up to the same standard. However the CD seems to be filled with so-so songs to fill up the album, that could never be considered good enough to stand alone. I found the minute long outro's a waste of time and uncomfortable to listen to. Don't get me wrong, its good enough to listen to, but good enough to pay for? I'd probably say no.

Missed opportunity

I'm not sure what has happened with Lost Prophets, as someone who was an instant fan with the Fake Sound of Progress, I've been continually disappointed with their move to more catchy pop-emo. The Fake SOund of Progress is musically excellent, featuring a combination of sound types and melodies which are not only meaningful to listen to but also musically complex, in essence, you can tell someone sat down and worked hard to produce it. Since then it feels like LP have become lazy, looking for easy hooks to replace the complex more meaningful music they created with their first album. The transition was so sudden andclear between FSOP and Start Something, its clear they made a desicion as a band to change, or record company wanted them to go for a more poppy edge. Either way, from a band standing on the edge of musical genius and a genuine following, they have moved into another pop-emo band, with music that, altho not terrible by any means, lacks soul. I've waited 3 albums to LP to rediscover the identity and class that went with their first album, alas, with this offering I think that LP is gone forever.
Despite this, their music is decent enough, and worth a listen, however it is sad to see a band with such potential slip into the already packed bracket of pop-emo, when their first offering hinted at so much more.

Awesome album

This is one hell of an album. I agree that lostprophets are one of about 4 of my fave bands but, i put this album on and i loved every second of it from the slightly metal dstryr to the slow but awesome dirty little heart and the indie like streets of nowhere.... Amazing album recomended to all lp fans and pretty much anyone. top notch.

pleasently suprised

I was concerned that this would be a case of a band failing to top its previously high standards. And guess what this album may not be as good as Liberation Transsmision (but that was a truly epic album) but this was still a solid album. Keep up the good work!

Not feeling Betrayed at all...

...because this album is brilliant! I like that there are still a few dark tracks on this new album, I feel some bands start to get a bit too 'pop' as they become more popular but they're keeping their identity with this one! A good mixture for everone really.

ive never owned a Lostptophets album before and i have to say i am impressed. I heard "its not the end of the world" and "Where we belong" on the radio and dicided to give it a try.The only thing stoping me from giving the full five stars is the one or two heavy songs on here which i realy dont think souit the album but apart from that its is AWESOME !!!

Stunning

Lostprophets promised after Liberation Transmission that there would be a darker more heavier album. This was true. The Betrayed covers all areas of Lostprophets - The darker side (If It Wasn't For Hate, The Light That Burns), the heavier side (Dstryr/Dstryr, Next Stop Atro City), the more melodic (Nothing, Dirty Little Heart, The Light That Burns), the upbeat (For He's A Jolly Good Felon, Streets of Nowhere) and last of all the massive choruses (Darkest Blue, Where We Belong, It's Not The End of the World). Here's a track by track review:
If It Wasn't For Hate..: They couldn't have had a better opener for the album, this song very much gives you an insight as to how the album is going to sound. The only downside is the fact that it's pretty repetitive. 9/10
Dstryr/Dstryr: This is such a good song. It gives us the brutal side to Lostprophets. Ians' vocals are brilliant on this track. Although it may sound rubbish at first, this song is a real grower. 10/10
It's Not The End Of The World..: First single to be released from this album. Obviously quite commercial, but at the same time, quite heavy and has a massive chorus. 9.5/10
Where We Belong: Second single to be released off the album. Huge song with amazing lyrics, it was a very good choice of single. The guitar line in the intro is slightly repetitive. 9.5/10
Next Stop Atro City: Very good song, much like Dstryr/Dstryr it's quite brutal, this this song is very fast paced and has a catchy chorus. 9.5/10
For He's A Jolly Good Felon: A well constructed song with a catchy chorus. Not a stand-out song but quite good. Lyrics are quite poor in some of it though. 8.5/10
Nothing: Amazing intro, very good verses and huge chorus. This IS a stand-out song. It's very well written and amazing live. 10/10
Streets of Nowhere: Very upbeat song, quite fast and a good sing-a-long song. Got quite a catchy/bouncy guitar riff. Good song. 9.5/10
Dirty Little Heart: This is the part of the album where it starts to slow things down a bit. Very melodic verses and a huge chorus. Seems to be quite a personal song. Stunning song. 10/10
Darkest Blue: One of my personal favourite songs on the album. Has a melodic but catchy chorus. Amazing verses and awesome intro. 10/10
The Light That Burns..: This is an amazing song to end the album with. It's an epic build up to a crushing ending. Ians' vocals in this song are outstanding. Very beautiful song. 11/10
This is without a doubt a stunning album. I was blown a away by this album. The thing I like about it, which was also on the album 'Fake Sound Of Progress' is the little bits of music that lead each song into the other.

Not as good as Liberation Transmission!

I was really excited to hear that the Guys had finally released a new album, following the complete re-write that ensued from the beginning of last year. I'm a big fan & loved the last album Liberation Transmission - which I still regularly play!
Being such a fan, I didnt bother to listen to the previews of the Tracks on this album, I just downladed it.
When I began playing it, I actually had to look at at what was playing. I was a bit taken a back & didnt even recognise it as being the Lostprophets - until I got to Where We Belong.
This Album is alot heavier than Liberation Transmission & really not my cup of tea... In my opionin I would liken it to something by NIN, Burn Burn etc. Which I am guessing is to aim it a wider audience. For me though, I find myself skipping a lot of the album.
I'm sure that this album will appeal to lots of people - clearly, based on the reviews below. Sadly though, it's not for me!
I guess for now I will stick with the last album & hope for something more my taste in the next album!

Lost Profits

Another disappointment. Lostprophets have yet again failed to deliver something as enigmatic and inspirational as Start Something. They have swayed away from their originality and uniqueness. All songs sound monotonously similar. Big let down from a band that had huge potential and seem to have sold out already.

What an Album

Always thought lostprophets were good but now after this album i think their friken awesome
10 out of 10 for where we belong, streets of nowhere and darkest blue. Best thing about this album is that they have made an album that mixes theyre original heavy stuff from their first album but they have also included some of the catchy stuff from start something.
Anyway it is a definite buy coz as individual tracks and as an album it is brilliant

All I have to say is this is the worst 8.99 I have spent, They should have learned from their mistakes from the last album and gone back to how they were on the first two albums this should be just forgotton about. Don't waste your cash on this unless you want your ears to bleed

Waaaaay below average

Their last album was OK (only OK - bland beyond belief, but just about tolerable for a few minutes), but THIS!? Not worth it. I could f@rt better tunes than the rubbish on this pathetic attempt of an album.
Do you self a favour - find some real music (unless you are less than 15 years old, that is).

Having only been a Lostprophets fan for the last couple of months, I didn't really know what to expect feom this album. Betrayed was a worthy title (thats all i feel) what a disapointment!!! :(

Went out to buy this album specificly!!
came home to listen and what did i find.. a band that i thought matured in songwriting and playing to have completly let me down!!
when i compare this album with the other albums i would have put money that this was there first.. it sounds like such an unexperinced band, there last album, where many didnt like it, it was infact a mature album, with some fantasic songs and brilliant lyrics that reached people!!
all i found with this album was it gave me a headache, and took me back in time to when they were just shouting abuse at the microphone ( only saving grace is there latest single (where we belong) which is fantastic!! but one petal on teh flower dosent mean its in bloom.
over all i expected more from this great band, guess i'll have to keep listening to there old stuff untill they can try again!! :( :(

Magnificent, Amazing, Whatever
This album is By Far the best Lostprophets album to date. I'm glad it's this brilliant because the band really does deserve all the credit and they have been getting a lot of credit for it.
The album on whole is simply extraordinary.

Epic

2 years late, but who's counting? Amazing album. Probably the best opening to an album you'll ever hear. Every track hits the right note. I've loved lostprophets for 10 years now and I'm proud to of seen them grow, mature, and progress. This album is amazing. Words cannot describe! Next stop atrocity is still one of my favorites ever... Having known the track for so so long, I think that's a good measure of the quality of it. The light that shines twice as bright = beautiful. They were amazing at the relentless garage, and they'll be amazing on their feb tour. Can never see enough of the prophets! 5 star work fellas. You've done your fans proud x

I just dont understand how people like this rubbish. Its aimed towards 15 year old girls. Terrible. I'll say it again LP first album shows what an amazing band they are. All the rest are just pop rubbish. Such a bad turn for a potentially good band.

Lostprophets Hit The Big Time..

Having waited all those years for this much anticipated album. Hope's where High and the closer the release came, the more i felt it would be a dissapointment.. After listening to the album once, i had mixed emotions. I loved it, yet felt it had been hyped up to much and there was a hint of dissapointment in my thoughts, however my itunes being on repeat, it started playing again, The second time i heard it i was picking out bits that i hadnt heard before and it all started fitting together. Ive listened to it a few times now. and its definatly an album that grows on you. whilst taking a different approach to this album with them producing and recording it themselves something has clicked.. The Betrayed still has amazing powerful melodys aswell as catchy lyrics. The build up into each song is perfect. I could have this album on repeat all day and still not get bored of it.
All in all its a very good record, with depth that will leave you wanting more and more..
The only downside of this album is that it will probably be another 3/4 years until the next album!!
Lostprophets are well and truly back 5/5
bennallen.

Weak.

I'm a huge Lostprophets fan and found this album rather weak. It's a downer of a record and it doesn't do anything for a band who are so very brilliant at writing great rock pop songs. Shame. This bands pursuit of their best album is still very much in progress.

Worth the wait?....? Without a doubt!

The wait for Lostprophets fourth album was definately worth it, The Betrayed is a brilliant album! It feels like a mix of all their previous albums - with some slightly heavier stuff from the early days and then a good few tracks simialar to Liberation Transmission. I have it playing on a continuous loop while I'm working atm, and I'm loving it. There is not one bad song. I cannot wait to see them live next month, it will be amazing!! May they be around for years to come!

Better than Liberation Transmission, but still behind Start Something

Well well well, this really is a surprise. After Liberation Transmission I was expecting another poppy album, oh how could I be more wrong. Some of the songs on here are worthy of mosh pit status 5 seconds into them, while some of them are Lostprophets at their sing along best!
The opening track "If It Wasn't For Hate, We'd Be Dead By Now' boasts one of the best introductions to an album ive ever heard. Simple, emphasis is clearly placed on the instruments rather than Ian's voice and boy are they good.
"Dstryr/Dstryr" & "Next Stop Atro City" have the definitive mosh pit feeling to them and will no doubt be a craze in a big crowd.
Lostprophets still seem to go back to a little poppy side of theirs in "Streets of Nowhere" and "For He's A Jolly Good Felon". With Felon sounding a lot like "Are you gonna be my girl".
My personal favourite, "Darkest Blue" has a huge chance of being the 3rd single.
At first listen of the Album, it was nowhere near as good as it sounds now. It is one of those albums that grows on you, if you give it the time.
9/10.

Back to form? For me, not quite, but getting there.

I'm a huge fan of Fake Sound Of Progress and Start Something. Liberation Transmission seemed far too radio friendly and poppy for me, which I thought was a huge shame.
The Betrayed isn't quite up to the standard of their first two albums, but its definitely a step in the right direction. If you liked Liberation Transmission, you'll love this too. If you liked the first two albums, but not the third, The Betrayed might well be a bit of a grower for you, as it has been for me.
One thing I'm not so keen on is that the UK version has two tracks missing (AC Ricochet and Sunshine). Why would a UK band do this to the UK fans, but give the Japanese fans something extra (they are brilliant tracks)?
Do yourself a favour and try to get the Japanese version.

Best Album Since Start Something...maybe even their best.

3 and a Half Years since the commercial success of Liberation Transmission comes The Betrayed. An album containing elements of all 3 previous albums clearly proven with the heaviest song on the album 'Next Stop, Atro City' being put in between two of the albums more poppier tracks. This is definitely an album for all fans of the band. It may not be 'original' but what is 'original' now? Nothing is and anything that gets classed as original has almost certainly been done before. Rock is and will comeback to the forefront of music and Lostprophets are one of the bands leading the way along with Bify Clyro and Fightstar. The British Rock Revival is on. Look out. "WE WANT THE AIRWAVES BACK!"
An album for everyone.

The Betrayed

What a way to start the new year, with a fantastic new album from one of Britain's best bands. The Betrayed sounds like a combination of all three of their previous albums. There is the similar album set-up as Start Something, as each song moves nicely into the next. The sound of the album is heavy which is similar to their debut album Fake Sound of Progress and also there is the great catchy anthems from that of the previous album, Liberations Transmissions. It has something for the old fans and also something for any new fan.
The first two singles from the album, the rocky It's Not the End Of the World and the brilliant Where We Belong, have given us a great preview to the album. I have only listened to the album once so far and most of the songs are incredible. The standout tracks are It's Not the End Of the World, Where We Belong, Dstryr/Dstryr, Next Stop Atro City, Nothing, Darkest Blue and the incredible finisher, The Light That Burns Twice As Bright. My song ratings:
If It Wasn't For Hate - 9/10
Dstryr/Dstryr - 10/10
It's Not the End Of the World - 10/10
Where We Belong - 10/10
Next Stop Atro City - 9/10
For He's A Jolly Good Felon - 8/10
Nothing - 9/10
Streets Of Nowhere - 8/10
Dirty Little Heart - 9/10
Darkest Blue - 10/10
The Light That Burns Twice As Bright - 10/10 (this is my favourite song on the album)
I know it is only January, but this has to be contender for album of the year. Lostprophets are a well established rock band and this has proven how great they are. For fans of the band, this is definitely worth it

Falls Flat

Finally Lostprophets album has arrived with it being 3 years in the making, expectations were high though to me it somehow falls flat, lostprophets have seemed to learn from their past mistakes of liberation transmission and have tryed to appeal to all their fans keeping a pop side to the song while also going a much more heavier root in the style of burn burn, we are godzilla you are japan and the awesome we are shinobi - however by trying to appeal to all fans the songs fall flat, with it soon dragging on and filler - the lyrics aint all awe inspiring and seem to just gone with the catchies sing along tune - however songs like dstryr and dstryr and next stop atro city still show lostprophets have that fire and can write some pretty amazing rock tunes - not in all a bad album and and a true improvement from liberation transmission but they have more to offer, however they still are one of the best bands live and shouldnt be reckoned with

The Best Yet!

For me, this is the best Lostprophets album to date. It simultaneously takes the best elements from their 3 previous albums while also carving it's own distinctive identity. Also, unlike those three albums, there is absolutely no filler. Just 47 minutes of pure rock and roll bliss. Buy it, you won't regret it!

A great way to kick off 2010

With the rawness of thefakesoundofprogress, the anthemic chorus' of start something and the catch hooks of liberation transmission, Lostprophets have clearly drawn upon all their experiences as a band in the last 10yrs & produced an album only describable with two simple words... 'Master Class'. i could see any one of the songs on the album being released as a stand alone single. The lostprophets have really raised the bar, its been worth the wait.

Long time waiting but not in vain

This album is truely amazing!
Im a huge lostprophets fan anyway so you may call be biased but it really is. Its almost they have drifted back to there old style but still holding fantastic songs for the less metally people. And still appealing to both! Hope this reachs high in the charts for the lads, it certainly deserves it.
Good going :)

Was it worth the wait lp fans??? HELL YES!!!!

The Betrayed is absolutely brilliant. I don't want to commit yet after just one play through and say if its the best album yet but it comes extremely close at the very least. The two singles released so far I think sum up the album, because there is some awesomely heavy stuff here like the amazing Dstryr/Dstryr which is just the kinda song we've been waiting for, and then the amazingly emotional slow prophets such as Dirty Little Heart. It all comes together to make a truly memorable collection of songs with some incredibly cathchy moments, and some of their best instrument work to date.
So far, I can safely say there isn't a bad song here. From the moment If it Wasn't For Hate built up expertly into Dstryr, i just knew it was going to be great, and the following songs just kept the quality going. This is superb. It mixes everything we've loved from Lostprophets in previous albums, with a bit more heavy stuff than Libertaion Transmission. Don't wait any longer than you have to. Lostprophets are back!!! They are F****NG back!!!
