Stunning
Lostprophets promised after Liberation Transmission that there would be a darker more heavier album. This was true. The Betrayed covers all areas of Lostprophets - The darker side (If It Wasn't For Hate, The Light That Burns), the heavier side (Dstryr/Dstryr, Next Stop Atro City), the more melodic (Nothing, Dirty Little Heart, The Light That Burns), the upbeat (For He's A Jolly Good Felon, Streets of Nowhere) and last of all the massive choruses (Darkest Blue, Where We Belong, It's Not The End of the World). Here's a track by track review:
If It Wasn't For Hate..: They couldn't have had a better opener for the album, this song very much gives you an insight as to how the album is going to sound. The only downside is the fact that it's pretty repetitive. 9/10
Dstryr/Dstryr: This is such a good song. It gives us the brutal side to Lostprophets. Ians' vocals are brilliant on this track. Although it may sound rubbish at first, this song is a real grower. 10/10
It's Not The End Of The World..: First single to be released from this album. Obviously quite commercial, but at the same time, quite heavy and has a massive chorus. 9.5/10
Where We Belong: Second single to be released off the album. Huge song with amazing lyrics, it was a very good choice of single. The guitar line in the intro is slightly repetitive. 9.5/10
Next Stop Atro City: Very good song, much like Dstryr/Dstryr it's quite brutal, this this song is very fast paced and has a catchy chorus. 9.5/10
For He's A Jolly Good Felon: A well constructed song with a catchy chorus. Not a stand-out song but quite good. Lyrics are quite poor in some of it though. 8.5/10
Nothing: Amazing intro, very good verses and huge chorus. This IS a stand-out song. It's very well written and amazing live. 10/10
Streets of Nowhere: Very upbeat song, quite fast and a good sing-a-long song. Got quite a catchy/bouncy guitar riff. Good song. 9.5/10
Dirty Little Heart: This is the part of the album where it starts to slow things down a bit. Very melodic verses and a huge chorus. Seems to be quite a personal song. Stunning song. 10/10
Darkest Blue: One of my personal favourite songs on the album. Has a melodic but catchy chorus. Amazing verses and awesome intro. 10/10
The Light That Burns..: This is an amazing song to end the album with. It's an epic build up to a crushing ending. Ians' vocals in this song are outstanding. Very beautiful song. 11/10
This is without a doubt a stunning album. I was blown a away by this album. The thing I like about it, which was also on the album 'Fake Sound Of Progress' is the little bits of music that lead each song into the other.
