Steadily degrades with listens

Unlike most albums I listen to the first few times through listening to this album you are struck and how awesome this album sounds. The two song opener is a stonker and remains to be exciting. However after a few listens I did start to notice that the songs start to sound a little generic and lacking emotion.
People may say there's a lot of emotion in the album but it just doesnt sound genuine and feels quite forced.
Still listen to it though

AVERAGE

Title says it all.
Nothing like their original albums, poor aong writing.
Each album they make, they seem to struggle with the style in which they are aiming for. Each album has a different style which makes it seem like they are struggling with their identity.
And the new drummer is not a patch on the old one.
The bonus songs are better than the actual album songs.
There are better albums availible to buy than this.

Awesome

Awesome rifts and breakdowns with a great mix of screams, growls and softer vocals. Drumming is immense and the lyrics are good too.

Musical relic!

This is a must have album, you can tell how much effort Trivium has put into this one, their best yet by far!

Let down

I love trivium and love every song they have made until they made this album. In waves is still a good album but to be honest I expected a little more from trivium

what harendessly dark dpressing lyrics

Who in the right mind wants to sing along and bang their head to this. i mean quote "im gonna sacrifice myself" come on. not the sort of thing i want to be listening to. The prior album shogun was a hell of a lot better than this it might of had some bad lyrics but nothing to this standard

Could we expect less?

So i recieve a link to a song a few weeks ago. Start up my pc. Do a little admin and then follow the link expecting the usual. The page loads and i press the play button. Data speeds through cyber space and information travels through time and back to me. Suddenly all chaos reigns as i am blown off my seat by the brutal riffs! I look around me and see that im standing InWaves ripping people apart! Yet again trivium comes and break the boundries of pure metal! "InWaves" is without a doubt my number one album from Trivium and in the same breath album of the year! Never have i been so excited about 18 songs! The slow melodies in contrast with utter madnees that compells you to break stuff is what puts this album apart and makes it worth having! Trivium InWaves FTW!

Pretty decent

I love trivium, and have liked them since ember to inferno. Ascendency is the best album they have released. I really enjoyed shogun and was excited to hear this album but....... As i do think its good they seem to be changing far too much for me. Some lyrics in the songs are poor matt heafys voice in some songs to me are very soft not throaty enough. I think the album is good, but to me doesnt sound like, and wont ever be, as good as the "old" trivium and unfortunatly i dont think any album they release now will ever be that way. As they are trying to hard to be "better musicians" and "better writers" and i just dont think it sounds as good as previous. In all a good album but not a good trivium album.

A Masterpiece.

The moment the album starts, your ears are soothed with sweet abient keys, slightly off tune to create a un settled feeling. It's from this moment, you know Trivium have matured, both as musicains and personally. This album is the best work they've ever done, there is a reason Trivium are the only metal band I still like, and this is it.
Songs are to the point and very catchy and heavy. Although I don't partically like the heavier songs on the albums, (Skylines Severance, Chaos), I can still listen to them.

Be Patient... You will love it!

While i heard some of the songs before the official release, In waves, Inception, Black, and Built to fall, i started to listen first to the songs i didnt hear. My god was i suprised! I didnt expect Trivium to take the route they did on this album. Nevertheless i am gob-smacked by the 'variety' on the album, Dusk Dismantled and Watch the world burn are very different songs you would expect. 2 days in and i am not tired of the album one bit!
My notable songs:
Inception of the End
A Skylines Severance
Built to Fall
Caustic Are the Ties That Bind
A Grey So Dark
But i do recommend buying the Special Edition on Hard Copy, as the Chapman Studio session and In Waves documentary are more than worth the extra £2!

IN WAVES

With Shogun being my favourite album of all time, I was a little apprehensive as to how In Waves would fair. But as soon as I heard Matt's goose-bump inducing yell of "IN WAVES", I knew this was not only going to be as good as Shogun, but totally and utterly annihilate it. Each and every song on the album is filled with everything that Trivium stand for. Nick has set a precedent for modern metal drumming and I had no concern once I found out he replaced Travis, he is incredibly talented and sounds so tight with Paolo. They have undoubtedly worked incredibly hard but hard work doesn't make a good album, talent does. Well done and thanks to all four of you for the music you've made that's formed In Waves.

Are Trivium finally back to their best?.......Almost

For me Trivium are alot like Machine Head. They both made stunning albums very early in their careers (Trivium Ascendancy and Machine Head Burn My Eyes) but neither really managed to top them (well Machine Head did eventually).
Dont get me wrong In Waves is a brilliant album, easily in my top 10 this year. It's an album full blistering drums and Corey and Matt's guitar playing is impecable as ever. Watch the World Burn and Built to fall are bound to become croud faviurites and Chaos reigns is just straight up brutal.
Personally this doesn't come close to matching Ascendancy. In Waves is the sound of Trivium finally getting back to their best and I have no doubt that one day they will top Ascendancy like Machin Head did with Burn My Eyes.

Worried but not for long

I got into trivium just after shogun was released, i saw them live at the koko in 2010 and i have been in love with them ever since! I have all of their albums and they all are amazing, i have been looking forward to this album for ages and when i was downloading it this morning i was so nervous, what if it didnt live up to my expectations? Or god forbid it sucked, but when i listened to it for the 1st time it blew my mind! I kicked myself for doubting them i love this album its my favourite one. So if you like trivium you wont be dissapointed. I look forward to seeing them live in december, hopefully ill see you there :) thanks for reading x

In Waves

Trivium’s fifth album In Waves is their first album with new drummer Nick Augusto, and their first to be produced by Colin Richardson. Nick’s style of drumming fits the band well so there is no need to worry about Travis’s absence. Additionally, the general standard of production is brilliant and even the quality of the lyrics has improved.
At first, I was a little worried that the album mightn’t be all that good, as I wasn’t too keen on the pre-released tracks like the more radio friendly ‘In Waves,’ and ‘Built To Fall,’ or the heavier, more mid-album type tracks ‘Dusk Dismantled,’ and ‘Inception Of The End,’ all of which were objectively good songs but all seemed to be missing something.
That many tracks should be indicative of the album’s quality as a whole, so I didn’t get my hopes up. They did all grow on me however, and definitely make even more sense within the context of the album as a whole, so if you weren’t keen on those tracks either, don’t let it put you off listening to the whole album.
As a general rule, the songs are shorter than they were on the previous album Shogun, and a little more straight-forward in terms of composition and structure but this is not necessarily true of every single track. The best way to describe In Waves would be a mixture of radio friendly songs and Ascendancy type songs; when you get right down to it, its another regular Trivium album. No grand departure really.
Every Trivium album so far has had some alteration to the style of the vocals, some harder, some softer and some mixed. In Waves could be described as more mixed, but with some additional styles not heard on a Trivium album before too.
Overall; when you get past the vocal styles, the track lengths, the line up, the production and the albums historical context, at the end of the day the album will stand or fall on whether or not the songs are any good. In Waves has a lot of good songs on it, and for that reason alone you should pick up a copy.
So to summarize, In Waves is a well written and well produced album, perhaps no the single best release in the band’s career by leagues and leagues, but ultimately a strong release that long time Trivium fans should definitely add to their collection.

Amazing

I've been a fan of Trivium for a few years now and didn't think they could get any betten than Shogun. Although this does take a few listens to get into, once you do you won't be able to stop listening to it. This is now my favourite Trivium album and I can't wait to see them at the end of the year on the defenders of the faith tour.
