Jeez. Blown away. Usual into rocky guitar driven fast music, but this is something else. It does have those guitar anthems, (Club Foot), but has electro-synth, (ID), acoustics, (U Boat), and even blues (Butcher blues). It is so diverse and enjoyable. I think out of there 4, I'd say it's just about their best over velociraptor! I love how every track has so many different layers, every time you hear a track you hear something new, it's just so different.
1. Club Foot. The guitar sound I love in this track, catchy as hell, and probably challenges ID, LSF and Cutt Off as my favourite on here.
2. Processed Beats. Really good this one, wasn't keen at first, but that chorus is simple but catchy. Pretty much a standard kasabian track.
3. Reason is Treason. My old favourite, but I guess I played it too much and fell out with the repetitive chorus. Listening to it more again now, and can see why I used to love it.
4. ID. Wow. It starts off as just random electro noises, but then transcends into a swirling halcyon of synth pads and beats. And I love the way Tom sings "music is my.... My whoooooooooooore!" When people talk about music masterpieces, this is what they (should) mean.
5. Orange. Bridges ID and LSF quite well actually.
6. L.S.F. Similarly to processed beats I wasn't keen originally, I just found it basic. But I've now found that's what great about this song. On an album full of layered labyrinths like ID and Ovary Stripe, LSF wounds simple. It's pretty memorable too, particularly the verses, which I find great.
7. Running Battle. Another good track. Really like the chorus, not sure about the verses though. If it was a little shorter it could be better, as the chorus is repeated just a little too much. Still a solid track.
8. Test Transmission. The first track not sung by Tom, (by Serge), is yet another top track. I think the chorus, is so different, but so special. It may not be the catchiest on the album, but musically, it may be one of the best.
9. Pinch Roller. I wouldn't mind if this was made into a proper tune! ATM it's just a 1 min interlude leading into cutt off, but it's actually a pretty catchy synth riff.
10. Cutt Off. You thought the album was good by now. This is a tune. The verses, which are practically talking by Tom, are surprisingly effective, and then it leads into that chorus. That 'oh whooah-whooah whoa oh whoa whoa oh oh' is constantly in my mind. It really is special.
11. Butcher Blues. When I first heard this song, it hit me. It starts off just like a blues black keys kinda track. It mostly stays like that too. That's what I like about butcher blues. It's different. If they'd made a blues album and put this on it, I may not like it as much. In a good way, it stands out, despite its basic chorus and musicality
12. Ovary Stripe. Never been a fan of instrumentals, id always wait for the singer to come belting in, but he never does. This is an exception. If they had added vocals to Ovary Strioe it would be less effective. The key element about it, is that it has no lyrics, it's all about the instruments. Musically, it rivals ID for their most complex tune, and it's just really a top track.
13. U Boat. The only track that didn't click. There had to be one didn't there! Never been a perfect album, and this came so close! I just find it way too depressing and boring. Serge sings this one, but... It just doesn't work for me! I've got nothing against deoressing music, I love the Smiths!, but I can't describe it. It's just a bad ending to such a good album.
