A Hybrid of Music and Genius
Hybrid may well be 17 years old but they show no signs of slowing down, with stunning albums such as this one still coming out. Here's hoping that more will follow. Cinematic Soundscape is a mix of new pieces and reworks of some of the finest pieces from previous albums that veteran fans will no doubt recognise.
The whole album is exactly as it is named. Listening from start to finish provides the listener with a vividly emotive experience that sounds as if it has come right from a blockbuster movie, staying true to the cinematic sound that fans have come to appreciate over the years. Personally, I really appreciate the beatless version of "Just For Today" - although the original track is brilliant, it is a pleasure to be able to clearly hear the orchestral elements throughout.
One thing I will say though is that if you are new to Hybrid, this may not be the best place to start. It takes some experience of listening to previous albums to fully appreciate some of these tracks, for example, Hooligan is a reworking of Dogstar from the "I Choose Noise" album. Recommendations include I Choose Noise, Disappear Here and Morning Sci-Fi.
This album, and much of Hybrid's music, is bound to appeal to fans of contemporary classical and soundtrack music and makes great background music for everything. Overall a great album. 5/5
