This album is unbelievable

Nas is fantastic a rapper and he is very lyrical and this Album proves he can spit and make me nod my head to all his songs on this album. This is one of the best things I’ve ever head and it is definitely worth the purchase. Nas is also very underrated and I’m here to show support for my homie Nas. So go buy his album: Illmatic. 😎👊

A genuine classic from one of the greatest to ever do it

"Rappers, I monkey flip em with the funky rhythm I be kicking!"
One of the opening lines sums Illmatic up beautifully. Funky beats, verses only Nasir himself could pen and deliver in such poetic fashion.
NY State of Mind and It Ain't Hard to Tell are standouts but it's hard not to mentions every track in a review for this certified classic and I don't use that word lightly like most when the discuss any HipHop album from before the year 2000.
Classic album, one of the greatest debuts you will hear from any musician and one of the best narratives of NY from someone who's been there and done it!

Classic

Having always been a fan of hiphop, I love to listen to a wide variety of artists. The Illmatic album is by far my favourite. It's got the pure sound of hiphop, grimy beats to nod your head to, and genius lyrics. I would recommend this album 100%.

Real Hip Hop

Uncut in ya face, how it is Street Hop. Don't be fooled this album rings as true today as when it was first recorded 20 odd years ago. This artist takes you almost by hand into his world, accompanied by the finest production talent you'll find on an album. If you don't know what Street Poetry is then this album is the Alpha and Omega of what you need to know. 5 Stars don't even come close, this is to me a timeless Masterpiece...period !!!

The Best of the Genre

If you haven't got, or heard this album yet then your not a true fan of hip hop, but i'll give it a plug anyway. This album is the best that hip hop has ever produced, there are no weak songs on this album at all, and they are all examples of Nas when he has got his A-game smooth flow on. The only other album I consider to have the same level of story-telling, narrative content is good kid m.a.a.d. city by Kendrick Lamar, even this is some way off. Considering gkmc is probably the best album in hip hop of the last decade, you can see that Illmatic really is something special. The production of the album is only comparable to that of, Doggystyle, The Chronic and 2001, this album has a mix of the best lyrics and flow as well as one of the best soundtracks- this truly defines the genre. If it is not the best hip hop album of all time it is definitely the greatest from the east coast. If you like music, you will like this album, enough said.
P.S. Also listen to Stillmatic, where Nas recaptures some of the gold that went into this album.

Masterpiece

I have been into Hip Hop since the early 80s. I begun to get back into Rap in the early 90s. Little did I know this was a “Golden Age” One of the main things that stands out about Illmatic is the fact that it has varied producers therefore it feels like it’s genre hopping, as each new track hits, Illmatic does NOT limit itself to a particular sound. It’s producers rank amongst the royalty of Hip Hop, Large Professor, Pete Rock and DJ Premier. Lyric wise the poetic flow and crime ridden imagery of a teenage kid thrust the LA dominated 90s Rap back into the arms of New York and Nas held it like a Game Of Throne’s King Joffrey. Nas Poetic flow puts me in mind of Rakim but with a depth and a flow not known up to this point. My favourite track is New York State Of Mind….its shakespearian refrain set against an urban backdrop smacks of darkness and intelligence. I could go on but I won’t for the sake of Queensbridge.

True Rap

I had spent so much time listening to Eminem, Busta Ryhmes and 50 cent before I found out about Nas. This is the true definition of Hip Hop/Rap,the dark and gritty world painted with Nas's sick lyrics. This is from 1994 the so called 'Golden age of Hip Hop' and so it should be called. Buy this now, and appreciate Hip Hop before It was tampered with..
