Party’s over

Unfairly judged against Duran and Spandau etc outputs from around that time. Whilst this might arguably be grouped under new romantic / synth pop it has genuine bite and emotion all lacking from the aforementioned .

Debut album......🎼+🎹+🎤= 🇬🇧80's pop.

The Party just began with this group, this eventually led to them changing musical history by re-inventing jazz pop fusion.
There is no direct connection from these choice songs to the subtle cuts that led to their masterpiece 'Laughing Stock'.
No start line, no tactics, you could say they were the original Radiohead of their day, deliberately alienating not just their own record company but their careers too.
We thank you all very deeply for the pioneers you became, the obstacles you overcome and the musical legacy that you have left us.

A seriously overlooked gem of an album

I first bought this album on Audio Cassette back in 1982, on the strength of the single 'Today'.
Typical of the early 80's, I was expecting three maybe four good tracks in between mostly 'filler' tracks. Boy was I wrong!
From start to finish, the musical journey is sublime. The song writing, instrumentation and production of the highest standard, grabs you from the very first track (and a later single) 'Talk Talk' to the brooding title track, 'The Patry's Over' and on to the mournful, yet uplifting, last track 'Candy', is a feast for your musical senses. A perfectly crafted piece of work and a great introduction to the musical talent that was Talk Talk.
This is an emotional journey of an album which has stuck with me all this time. I absolutely love it and unlike so many 80's albums, this doesn't sound dated. It's too good for that, in fact all the Talk Talk albums are auditory gold. Check out lead singer & writer, Mark Hollis' self titled solo album too.
The Party's Over is a serisouly overlooked gem of an album.
