Betjeman’s lyrics, an ode to a lost England, and magical music (jazz?).

He really doesn't need to compete with background music. Pity.

I bought this album after hearing Jarvis Cocker discuss it on a radio documentary, with various other musicians adding their memories of it, including Suggs from Madness - I had to give it a go. Really glad I did (thanks Jarvis !), only being vaguely familiar with Betjeman having studied a bit at school, I’ve been on a literal poetic journey. Banana Blush is gloriously witty, eccentric and original, should be more well known. It brings a smile to my face.
