Love....love.....love

I really like this guys vocal style. So to be able to hear it against the calmer, simpler backdrop of mainly acoustic guitars and easy drums is a treat.

Tracks include an acoustic version of 'Every Beat of The Heart', taken from the wonderful 'Native Place' album (not listed on iTunes and possibly now deleted - dunno).

There have always been fantastic songs written by great bands which, for some reason, just don't get anywhere near the charts, or never reap the commercial benefits -The Railway Children are one such band.

With a glut of spot-on 80's single material, which never sounds like it was selling out. And of which once heard, will leave you whistling the damn songs for the next two weeks. You'd think they would have been big (at least for a while).

This album feels like the band is running out of steam though, especially with its re-vamped acoustic version of 'Every Beat...' (which should have been a number one hit across the UK, Europe and parts of the US if I'd had anything to do with it). Still, it's all pretty well crafted and accessible, but it doesn't quite capture the soul.

I'm giving it 4 stars anyway, because in isolation - and against a backdrop of over-hyped 4th generation, punkoid-pubescent, Danger-musak, it absolutely shines!
