Better than GOOD
Reading one of the above reviews made me question if the person writing it had a good enough understanding of the origins of rap and hip hop to be able to say that “jazz with rap isn’t a common combo”. After reading this I felt compelled to write a review.
After only a few listens, I can not give his album a review that truly does it any justice. Those that are familiar with Fly Lo’s other bodies of work and collaborations with artists from film, video games and music, will know that you will constantly uncover different layers to his music which makes every listen a different experience to the last.
With this said, I would say Fly Lo has yet again presented us with something that will keep us listening and discovering with every playback. There are so many different elements of music that are captured in this album, I will leave you to unearth them with every listen.
I would personally say that you need to listen to this album through a descent sound system or a good pair of headphones.
Rap and Jazz have been going through time hand in hand way before before this album was even conceived but Fly Lo keeps on pushing forward the ideas of those artists that first thought of sampling old jazz albums.
In conclusion, this album will be another soundtrack for people that wish to explorer another aspect of time and space as this album is truly forward thinking, but with the foundations laid many years before. So buy this album and judge it for yourselves, but do make sure you know your history, as one man said, you need to remember where you have been, before you know where you are going.
