Bites deep, burns slow
This is not one of Therapy?'s more wild, energetic albums, rather it is one of the more melodic ones, but the melodies are good ones. Here the energy is more focussed and the sound is tighter with more emphasis on the vocals. The effect is less overpowering, more dramatic and insidious.
Instead of being assaulted by the music, here the listener is seduced by it. There are blazes of raw power, such as the opening of 'Sprung' with its deep chords and rapid crashing of drums, and the runaway beats on 'Lose It All' but these are interspersed with some mesmerising tuneful pieces such as 'Unconsoled' and 'Private Nobody', befitting the lyrical themes of disillusionment, pessimism, alienation... This takes you on a journey into low, lonely places and this time it lets the chill sink into your bones. The energy is still there, though, threading through the darkness and providing company for the misery.
This one bites deep and burns slow. It may not knock you off your feet straight away but after a couple of listens it worms its way under your skin.
