The camera is very robust and reliable but the software is just abysmal. Why isn’t there an iPad-specific version? Why is the software so dedicated to portrait orientation when the camera is wide-screen? The playback system is awful, very difficult to find and watch any video after the motion-triggered activity. Also, the annoying nag screen requesting feedback has prompted me to leave this review. I was given this camera by a friend, I wouldn’t waste my money on it. It’s a toy at best, a waste of time at the worst. If you seriously need a security camera, look elsewhere. Typical Chinese product - reasonably cheap hardware, very poor software.

The latest update has made the camera almost pointless to own. You can now no longer view historical captured motion events beyond 6 second snippets unless you subscribe to their cloud service. Basically they are forcing people to subscribe to a paid service to unlock functionality that was advertised as free at the point of sale. I would return my camera if I was still in the refund window, but I am not. I would certainly advise others to AVOID purchase of this manufacturers hardware.

Lights won’t turn off in the settings.

These cameras have a great picture. But they play up non stop hassle. They now don’t work live stream. Which means you can’t keep a eye on things when your away from your home. My cameras only work when I’m at home connected to the same WiFi. What’s the point of that. They worked ok when I 1st bought them and within 3 months I’m fed up and looking at other options. Tech support is also terrible. Have you turned it off try resetting it is it connected to WiFi reset the router try deleting the cameras and starting again. That’s the type of bull they come back with. And to get access to the cloud cost a ridiculous amount of money. Wish I hadn’t bothered with YI

Used YI for years and bought 6 cameras without any problems but the norm seems to be now (like Fitbit) when you pay for a premium product, the manufacturer starts hitting the app with spammy adverts and banners taking up 1/3 of your camera dashboard screen.
I've asked a few times for Yi to remove these but apparently it's "not possible".
Now partnered with Kami they seem to be going down the route off Foscam where they offer an alter ego and support neither!
My last request for help was rejected because I don’t subscribe to their cloud services!
In principle their platform is great, in practice, they scare you and want your money for basic features 🐀🐀🐀🐀🐀🐀🐀

I find being able to connect to the camera very hit and miss. I have an I pad and iPhone on Vodafone. Loads the cameras eventually on my devices, but connection is an issue when dragging the time line between different recordings. However, my partners iPhone on 02 has no problems connecting to the cameras at all, with very little wait time, it’s almost instant. Please fix this, it wasn’t like this before!

I have problems with the app not connecting to cameras it just stays at 1% then jumps to 35% then back to 1% and keep going like that, I tried everything, my internet connection it’s 800 mbps I even connected the camera to a different internet provider still not works, I even put in the app someone else’s account exactly the same problem I have deleted the app and reinstalled it still not working, I have different cctv that works perfect this ones sometimes it works sometimes it’s not working, I’m really disappointed!

The cameras ans app are good, yet the cloud service lets it down. Yet again I am paying for a service and the app doesn’t recognise that I have a subscription, so wasted money. Not sure why this happens, incompetence or dishonesty?
Previous they resolved the problem and gave me a free subscription for a time. Now seems very difficult to get support and resolution.

I have to say this was very very easy to set up and admittedly I never ordered a microSD card to go with the camera but other than that this is a very very easy to use and high-quality camera. This they have a cloud service available if you want it for storage or you can insert a microSD card.
You can also set up active Times etc and found the whole camera a great purchase

I actually tried to use the YI 1080p Home Camera so i could have pieced of mind as for security in my home while travelling tomorrow, total waste of my day! It does nothing but go around in circles , you add this app then it asks you to register as usual , the problem is when you get to finish registering and activating your password and scanning the code when you try to connect it to your personal WiFi it still says “WiFi password error” I know for sure there is nothing wrong with my WiFi and password 1. My WiFi works on all other devices 2. The password is the same for the log in app.
I’ve tried resetting the camera, resetting my personal router and even went as far as calling up my provider to see if their network speed is up to par.
Which means only one thing at this point which is that your YI Home 1080p camera is not affective enough to pick up WiFi.
If this is an old model please stop selling them , recall them back to the factory and forget about adding it to the list on your app.

Had a cctv system that repeatedly dropped out. Replaced it with Yi , same camera positions and it has been very stable. Cameras are easy to set up and use. Using SD cards to store the video and these are easy to access via the app. The app itself is straightforward. Would give 5 stars if some of the app features, ie multi camera view was standard, feels like it’s held back to justify the cloud pricing structure

Really counter intuitive app. Orientation jumps around on iPad Pro. Locks screen in its own orientation, even if the app has been minimised and you have moved to another app. Downloading clips is maddeningly difficult... getting it to present you with the section to select for download is some sort of black art. The camera quality is excellent., but this supporting app is truly dreadful.

This app has been great on the iPhone for a long time, but since the update today, it’s impossible to see video from the SD card - you get Chinese characters where there used to be a circle icon and the choice to view the longer clip from the SD card. This needs fixing quickly as the cameras are pretty useless now!

I have been using Yi cameras for a few years now and have been paying for a 5 camera subscription.
Issue 1
The IOS app, when you attempt to watch the full clip stored on cloud it displays an error “no SD card detected” you can get around this by viewing the daily recorded cloud video stream but is a timely and slow process compared to the former.
Issue 2
Recently my Facebook account can no longer log in to the PC app(nothing to do with my account it’s a problem with their software). I logged a support request 8 days later they continue to ignore the issue highlighted in the original request. I have sent 3 subsequent emails requesting the issue to be escalated, their replies seem to ignore request for support and attempt to conclude the issue without resolution.
Based on the above I will be selling all my Yi and Kami equipment and moving to the Google Nest ecosystem, cameras are twice the price but I imagine the ecosystem will be better supported based on other Google products I already own.
I DO NOT RECOMMEND YOU BUY YI HOME OR KAMI EQUIPMENT.

*UPDATE* Ok, so we are now back to the original version of the app however playback is sooooo slow and laggy - it’s literally unwatchable!! Come on Yi, sort it out!! 😡
This app was working perfectly well.....until the update. It is now an absolute pain to look at the timeline on a camera and when you do, it’s crazy unresponsive! The video is very laggy, which never used to happen and why on earth has an annoying zoom bar been added to the screen when pinch-to-zoom worked perfectly well?? This really is a case of ‘if it’s not broke, don’t fix it!!’ Please roll this update back!!

The latest updates have been enough for me - I have 4 Yi cams that I am now binning and am going to get Ring indoor cams instead. I already have lots of Ring devices which never fail but so many times the Yi updates have been dreadful.
I’ve held off until now thinking I could live with it but this week’s updates have sealed the deal with the utterly deplorable changes, without any advance notice may I add - you store user email addresses which you could use to communicate!
You’ve lost another customer now.

Whoever decided to update this App and thought it was better, needs to leave and find another job, it’s so difficult to use and constantly freezes, it was perfect before for scrolling back through saved footage on the SD card, now it’s such a drama, definitely getting rid of what I thought were great cameras and an easy user interface, YI you have let me down with what has to be the worst update ever. Always the same that people can’t leave something that works alone. I think it’s a unethical way of making people subscribe to the cloud to view the footage.

Latest update is an utter joke. Playback has been moved from the camera view to be hidden away. Before you could scroll your finger on the screen whilst viewing the camera. It also will not allow you to move the view in portrait mode with your finger, instead you have to move the device! I also cannot view any playback from today, I have to wait until the following day! Whoever thought this update was a good idea needs to lose their job. Please revert back to previous interface. I have 5 of these cameras and this is an utter shambles!

I’m so unhappy with this app and camera! I’ve deleted and reinstall the app numerous times as well as restarted/reset the camera. When I try to use the view option it never shows the rooms. Constantly sits at 90% and then says poor/establishing a connection. Which shouldn’t be a problem as I have WiFi across my entire flat and everything else works just fine. Then when I click on settings it sits in the loading position and NEVER comes up!! So frustrating when it’s now installed in my room and it doesn’t work!! Don’t download this app as the developers don’t respond and the updates just ruin things even worse!

SD card playback no longer works as of updating a few weeks back. Tried numerous cards, reformatting, resetting the camera, reinstalling the app but the same thing every time. You click on play the Complete clip after viewing the 6 second preview in timeline and it just goes to live view. If you manually do a recording you can play it back through the album - whilst fairly useless, that bit works. It is just the motion triggered clips that no longer work. Annoying as I’d ordered another Yi cam a few weeks ago but not going to set it up until this is fixed. Please fix this basic functionality. It’s been long enough

Bought the outdoor camera. I use a memory card, Impressed with the quality of the image especially at night. Like the way you can access the footage via the app and like the notifications if someone enters pre selected zone. Only criticism is the very usb short power lead ! Otherwise extension lead is required. Will buy again

Edit Jan 2020. App still working ok but now the aspect ratio on alert preview image is wrong, it’s all squashed up and looks silly. Recordings are correct though. Small point but irritating!
Original: I’m running 4 cameras on the Yi cloud and everything works well. The iPhone app is not 100% intuitive and it’s easy to lose your way, but once mastered its very good. I would like to see location control in the app for the cameras so that they can turn on and off as I leave and return home, but at present that can only be achieved by using something like Wemo smart plugs with ITTT, (unless I’m missing something somewhere). Some of the other configuration options are a bit tricky to set, and the instructions aren’t very clear but tech savvy folk shouldn’t have any problems. Live Video quality is ok, not spectacular but good enough, and playback is ok too.

Update December 19- Camera software has been updated a number of times as has this app and I am pleased to say things have improved. They are still not perfect but are certainly a huge improvement!! Camera works 90% of the time with the odd hiccup being easy to fix with a quick reset.
One frustration is still on this app- I have adverts on the home screen ‘switched off’ in settings yet I am still pestered to sign up for ‘cloud’ storage plans and supporting crowd funding projects. These are too intrusive and annoying.
Camera WAS working well until 2 days ago when the app was updated. Now AGAIN the camera doesn't work. How can YI be such an incompetent company. Don't touch these products they are useless!!!
***Latest update. Can't view any recordings at all- shows as having recorded nothing!!!! Another reason to avoid!!!!****
The app itself is ok but unfortunately I have had the cameras for a couple of months and in this time they only work 50% of the time. There is a clear issue with the cameras which stops them recording to the SD card and as such makes the camera (and hence the app) useless. Since the latest update I can't even view ANY footage. I wish I had never bought them!! To make it worse- customer services are useless and after a month of being without a camera they still have not resolved the problem or replaced two faulty camera.
Take my advice AVOID YI CAMERAS!!!!

We have four 1080p camera’s around the house. (inside and out)
The quality has been superb. The app is very easy to use. I’ve been able to see my camera's from around the world.
I haven’t come across any glitches.
They now work with Amazon’s Alexa’s screen devices. This is a great way to access the camera’s.
I plan on buying a few more to complete my home security. Fully recommended.

One feature I would love to see is a bookmark cycle for the 1080p rotatable home camera. A feature to cycle between user defined bookmark areas would be great.

I’ve been using two YI 1080 Home cameras for over two years now and have never had a problem with them. The quality of the 1080 resolution cameras is excellent for day and nighttime recording. One camera is indoors and the other I have successfully adapted for outdoor use.
Initially I set up the system with the YI Home Lite app, nothing else was then available, but I have transferred the cameras across to the YI Home app without any problems.
I don’t subscribe to the cloud option, but use a microSD card inserted in each camera and I find this good enough to record what I need.
I was so pleased with my YI 1080 Home cameras that I have bought another.

I still don’t understand why so many people have problems with these cameras.
I’ve now got three dome cameras and have never had a problem at all. They set themselves up so easily, once you’ve read and understood the instructions...
Anyway, I’ve found them to be great, and no hesitation in recommending them.
BUT... it would be great to be able to monitor all three at once on the iPad!

This is replacing Swann WiFi HD and so far it is far better , it’s function is to check on dad make sure he is not collapsed in his flat . Swann has huge issues dropping off and not reconnecting . This connected seamlessly even when I unplugged it serval times to get best position to monitor bedroom /hall / bathroom door . Thank you guys I rest better with this product .

Firstly, this app seems well designed for the most part, and the cameras are generally very good at streaming live with no connectivity issues (as I've had with other brands in the past). There is however one flaw which really needs fixing - playing back footage captured in the cloud is nearly impossible. I can see that, as my paid subscription specifies, much of the day has been recorded and uploaded to the cloud, but I just can't play it! Please fix this! It's such a disappointment that this feature barely works, especially given the live streaming is so good. It is also frustrating as it's a service I've paid for but I don't feel I'm receiving. For reference, I'm trying to stream the video whilst on a 150Mb/s (measured) wireless network - this really shouldn't be a problem!
One other thing that really needs work is the ipad app - it is currently just a port of the iPhone app. This needs to be made into its own app, and ideally include the ability to monitor 4 cameras at once, like the PC app allows.

Absolutely awful, worked great previously. No longer shows image preview of the motion detected, you now have to click on every single notification and watch the clip to see what it was. Before hand it would show an image of that clip, ie neighbour washing car.
When clicking on a video to view it can’t load and takes you back to the ‘live’ camera.
The only way to stop this is to shut the app down. Meaning to check the 20+ notifications I get daily I must watch every single video and shut the app down between each clip.

OK. I never write reviews as I don’t really get the time. But this application coupled with the service at YI has literally been one of the worst experiences. YI are SO incompetent it is actually not even funny anymore. They replied to my requests about 30 days later, they keep asking for the same information, and they just don’t care. The app is SO slow, which means I can’t use the app. I purchased a subscription which is a ware of money. Now the actual camera is a waste too because the mechanism to use the camera (the app) doesn’t work!
YI - worst customer care. Very distasteful. Will not be ordering from you again.

I've been using this app for ages and I is brilliant, at least it was at the beginning but the constant reminders and pop ups to get a cloud subscription is unbearable.
You have a choice to subscribe for recoding on the cloud or use you own Micro SD Card. By buying a subscription you all good with no constant notifications, however, if you decide to use an SD Card you get pop ops and notifications everywhere. There's even one where you trying to view you recording and you get this big banner at the bottoms pestering you to get a subscription.
When I first downloaded this app, there was only a shop page where you could select to and subscribe to cloud recording, and now it's so in your face that I'm actually considering moving to a different system.

I’ve had this a while and whilst I was annoyed at first they’ve really enhanced the app now and videos flowing almost instant after alert. Much better than a previous 5 minute wait.
Great resolution on the camera and does everything I need it to. Can easily adjust settings and motion detection area via the app, switch on camera light or talk to people at the door via the app.
All in all a decent camera and good app which is being updated regularly which I like.

We have two Yi Home cameras that we use as a baby monitor.
The reason we chose them was initially for one simple reason - you can turn the status light off - meaning the camera can give you night vision without shining a light in your baby’s eyes.
I have to say I am very impressed with the quality of the camera. The video quality is excellent (we have the 1080p dome camera) as is the quality of the night vision.
We didn’t bother paying for cloud storage as a cheap SS card does the trick for our use case. This means we have not had the problems with playback that some have mentioned with the cloud service.
The mobile app works very well - I find it easy to use. The main issue is a slight lag on the video feed - but unlikely this is an issue with the app.
The only addition I would really like to see is for the mobile app to support simultaneous live streaming of multiple cameras. This is possible on the desktop app but not the mobile app.
As a parent looking after two kids I have two cameras in my house. I want to be able to move around the house whilst the kids sleep (hence the mobile app), however I currently need to carry TWO mobile devices with me, one for each camera feed.
Why not just let me have two live feeds sent to my phone??
Other than that I’m very happy and have recommended this to friends who are also happy.

In the while the app is excellent. It is easy to setup and operates flawlessly in an intuitive way.
It would have got 5*, but in one of the recent updates the behaviour on notification changed. It used to smoothly take you straight to the video. Now, it takes you to the list of events and enters a loading loop. IMHO this feels like the notification is triggered when the motion is detected... but delayed for 6 seconds of video to be capture and again for it to be uploaded. You have to wait for 10 to 30 plus seconds whilst it gets sorted and during this time you can not flip to live mode. Either delay notification or go to live.

I’ve held off reviewing this app as I believe an app shouldn’t be reviewed until it’s been used for a given amount of time, in my case that’s two weeks.
I recently purchased and installed the Yi 1080p outdoor WiFi camera. As far as the camera is concerned the picture/video quality is amazing both during daylight and and under infrared and is definitely 1080p, the app however is a different issue! To cut a long story short the alerts system works well and notifies me of any activity but the actual clip of the footage isn’t always available to view. The cloud storage service is intermittent even though I’ve set it to constant recording mode, I have many gaps when I watch footage from the cloud. Also I often have problems with the app not communicating with the camera, I’m not sure if this is a network problem on my part but I’ve tried everything possible to solve this, I’ve even gone as far as too install a WiFi extender which is within three foot of the camera installation.
Overall the Camera is an amazing product but not short of technical problems which will hopefully be resolved over time.

I just had my first issue with it. After plugging in a micro SD card I lost the screen in the iPhone app. At first I thought it was broken, but then noticed I still had a screen on the app on the iPad. I uninstalled the iPhone app and reinstalled and everything is fine again, I’m amazed at just how good and reliable this little camera is, and will be buying another one soon.

I bought the camera to help monitor my elderly mother who was unwell when she was on her own or with carers, on several occasions she had a number of falls and dementia issues. The camera’s wide vision helped me see most of mums flat and monitor her movements at all times, It’s excellent microphone and the ability to pick up sound where also invaluable. I was able to see many events, spot when she was in distress quickly and get contact with her immediately to help without being there. It helped to see how she was living and guide me in making sure she was safe and get the right care for her going forward. Great quality of sound and vision with easy to use App great value for money and piece of mind. Thank you

Very happy with Yi product. Nice quality cameras and good range of options for cloud storage which means you can retain video even if someone steals the cameras! The app is good but does take some getting used to. Also would be better if you could disconnect USB plugs on cameras as you need to drill big 22mm hole if you to run wires through walls or window frames. Overall recommended. Very nearly five stars.

I do like the app as it is intuitive and easy to use. The functionality is better than a lot of apps. The latest update has however been a step backwards. When viewing the camera and or reviewing previous alerts, the software takes you to the latest alert if movement is detected. This is unhelpful as you then have to find the one you was previously viewing and invariably it fails to load the alert it’s drawing you to. Please remove this functionality or at least give users the option to turn this on or off. Thanks

We have installed 2 (soon three) of these at home and one for my elderly parent as a means to check on falls as we live some distance away.
Easy to set sup - albeit sl delay in resetting when change of Wi-Fi at both locations - can’t reset Wi-Fi unless press reset button but only delayed by seconds until worked it out.
Distant tracking increases coverage area and greatly useful.
I feel to be very good VFM.

The playback feature simply does not work - attempt to skip back by a few minutes and you will instead be taken back my hours (usually, rather randomly, to the early hours of the morning). You will never be able to skip back to the time you want - the system simply will not let you. Separately, don’t attempt to adjust any of the ‘smart detection’ settings as the app will simply freeze, and you certainly won’t be able to adjust the ‘region setting’ feature. This is a very poor application and sad as I have clearly wasted money purchasing these cameras.

Camera and app work pretty well with the exception of one key feature, recorded video playback. Completely unable to scroll through recorded material, no matter what specific time you try to view it immediately takes you to the beginning of the recorded day. If you wanted to scroll back and see an event that happened at a specific time you would have to view from the begging of the day and wait in real time until the playback eventually got to the specific hour you were hoping to view. Completely useless!!! It’s all recorded but you can’t view it!

I’ve been looking for a cctv system for a while but didn’t want to install lots of cameras outside the house so thought I’d try these...I have one outside covering my drive and one inside that covers the front (through the window, not ideal but it works). On the whole I’m impressed with these little cameras, based on price point.
The app is a little flakey and I have some issues when trying to play back clips (which I store in inbuilt SD cards rather than using the cloud) but on the whole I’m happy with this setup, so much so that I’ll be getting another outside camera in due course. The playback issue I have is that when I select ‘play entire clip’ after watching the motion alert clip, it starts right back at the beginning of the day...try to skip to the time stamp and I reverts back to the earliest time...a little bug that needs ironing out.

I wasn’t expecting much when I purchased a Yi home camera as it is much cheaper in price compared to others but from the moment I took it out of the box I could see that it was well made. It is perfectly simple both in design and function. There is nothing overly complicated about it. No buttons etc and everything controlled via the app. The SD card that I purchased for it also works fine with it. The picture quality is very good and I like the two way communication function. I will be buying more of these cameras and will definitely recommend them to others.

Me and my husband were looking for a good quality camera that doesn’t cost a fortune. The vision is perfect during the day as well as during the night, very sharp picture you can use it on WiFI as well as 3/4G. The only disadvantage I’d say is that is a bit slow in response but that’s obviously reflecting a price however I’d recommend the product and will be buying again in a future for other rooms.

UK connectivity worked fine until YI tried an update on the App and now nothing works. Continually give a Timeout message or failed to connect yet the internet connection works fine on all other non YI activities.
Despite YI support team efforts over last 24 hours the problem still persists.
When trying to access the cameras there is a ribbon message at top of screen which says “there is a problem connecting to the server of the app please try again later”
Clearly the problem lies with YI and we can only request an urgent resolution as the cameras normally perform a very important security function which is now failed and requires a solution from a competitor product.

Ok so I’ve had the same problems when trying to register and creating a account using the App. The way round this is to change the region from Europe to America when registering. I’ve had a play and everything seems to work very well so far. It did ask for a update once connected to the Wi-fi will only took a few minutes to complete. The ads aren’t really a issue as there no present on the stream screen. Not bad.

Clear pictures. Easy to set up. Sensitive to movement- perhaps too sensitive as movement of branches and passing pigeon records an incident, even using the lowest settings.
Cannot use behind window at night as the glass reflects the Blue sensor light . (must try placing further away and at an angle)
However, I like it and am. Considering purchasing two more cameras for internal use.

This app together with the camera device has changed my mother’s life. As primary care giver to my father (elderly with dementia) it gives her back a slice of independence allowing her to pop to the shops or to local friends’ houses safe in the knowledge that the camera function is reliable and streams easily to ensure he is well, in bed and safe. The sound function also means she can listen to him to hear if he is having coughing fits as he has difficulty with his breathing. The only downside is that playback from the cloud doesn’t work, despite our subscription. Hopefully the developer and tech wizards can remedy this soon!?

Installed two cameras, both of which are connected to the cloud on a 7 day repeat.
The quality of the picture and the facilities that the cameras offer are completely adequate for my requirements. Being able to adjust the motion detection area is particularly useful where camera may overlap a roadway or boundary.
Installation couldn’t be easier although I have to say that 3 metres of connection cable isn’t really enough. I have had to use USB extension leads on both installations.
Otherwise a thoroughly good camera representing very good value for money.

New update - motion alert no working

Since the new update the motion alerts do not work. Have reinstalled the app and camera and changed the setting to high and frequency high and no change. Removed the memory card and no change. I've tried all combinations. Please fix this issue I've sent many tickets about this. My yi dome camera is useless now. # update yi have changed this now to a paid model and you can no longer get this functionality without paying the monthly subscription. I will be selling mine and look for another camera very disappointed.

I’ve had a number of IP cameras over the years. These ones are winners. Why? Well, they are cheaper than many of their competitors. They offer an excellent picture quality and they are easy to set up with the app. If you can’t find the app on the App Store go to the Yi Home website and follow the links. I bought one to see if it was any good. I now own five. The only gripe I have is it would be better if they came with a 360 degree mount so they were easier to position. But apart from that they are spot on. Highly recommend these units.
