MoodTools contains several different research-supported tools. They include:
Thought Diary - Improve your mood by analyzing your thoughts and identifying negative / distorted thinking patterns based on principles from Cognitive Therapy
Activities - Regain your energy by performing energizing activities and tracking your mood before and after, based on Behavioral Activation Therapy
Safety Plan - Develop a suicide safety plan to keep you safe and utilize emergency resources during a suicidal crisis
Information - Read information, self-help guidelines, and find help with internet resources
Test - Take the PHQ-9 depression questionnaire and track your symptom severity over time
Video - Discover helpful YouTube videos that can improve your mood and behavior, from guided meditations to enlightening TED talks

Disclaimer: This mental health application is not intended to be a replacement for treatment nor any sort of medical intervention. Treatment is, by far, the best way to overcome clinical depression or other mental illnesses. Therapy and antidepressants have been shown to effectively treat clinical depression and anxiety. While MoodTools is designed as a self-help mental health application to help people suffering from clinical depression, it can also assist people without mental illness or people suffering from other mental disorders / mental illnesses such as anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), bipolar disorder, seasonal affective disorder, dysthymia, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), panic disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, or schizophrenia.

All core features of this app are completely free to use. Pro Mode is an optional subscription that offers Export, Cloud Sync, and Passcode Protection features. Pro Mode is offered in two auto-renewing subscription options: $4.99 per month or $29.99 per year.

Payment will be charged to iTunes Account at confirmation of purchase. 24 hours before the end of the monthly subscription period, the renewal fee will be automatically charged and the subscription renewed unless auto-renew is turned off beforehand. Very impressed with the education , tools to record your day , links to videos ( including some of my favourite ted talks).

I use this app as a carry on from my CBT sessions as you are only allowed 12 of these at a time on the NHS and have to wait about 22 weeks from the point you actually request them! This app is literally my life saver, without it my mood and anxiety would have got out of control. I feel it puts things into perspective and makes you think about your situation in a different way. I highly recommend this.

I've only just started to use this app in addition to seeing my therapist and attending weekly group sessions. It's already helping me gain some insight to my problems and how I can approach situations differently in the future. This is a great little app with all the tools to keep track of your thoughts, emotions and progress

Wildly inaccurate rubbish. The "test" has little to no basis in fact and gives you a seemingly random answer depending how many of each colour you pressed. As I understood it from their self advertising on YouTube, this app was designed to help you cheer up when you're in a bad mood/feeling down and instead it just asks you what makes you happy and told me I need to see a mental health professional!

I just got the app so haven't used it yet for when I'm depressed but it is well thought out with information on depression, a test, helpful videos including TED talks, activities to help combat depression and a safety plan which you make that you can turn to when you feel low. One suggestion - add music, like happy favourites - definitely helps when you're down. Will re-review when I've properly used it. Thanks, Eddie Liu

I love this app, it does so much more than other "mood apps" that just track your emotions.
It helps you work through emotions, as well as giving you options for help, safety and activities. It's like having an interactive CBT booklet in your pocket. Thank you so much.
