Version 1.3.33
Wanted to learn Japanese and downloaded this app, it was exactly what I was wanting. Would recommend constantly repeating each of the basic levels and just keep pushing further each time. I am currently aiming to do at least 2 hours a week and hopefully will be at the level I am aiming for by 3 years from now. I bought the app within 24 hours I was that confident in it. Hopefully I can complete this entire app and then if I still need more help I can see where I am at in 1 years. PS can’t wait to understand Japanese anime without needing subtitles 😎

Best app iv used to learn hiragana, it groups hiragana into phonetically similar categories and shows you the character along with the sound and then you can draw it and it recognises whether you did it correctly or not. It’s the easiest, simplest, quickest and most efficient way to learn hiragana so far I’m really impressed especially since I had bought text books such as the Japanese from zero series and I found it super hard to get a hang of writing.

Was great until I hit a bug

This app has been really helpful so far but today I hit a bug - when going through the kore/sore/are/ima/so lesson in the 3rd pack, it keeps displaying a blank screen at some point through the lesson and I have to restart it. Developer - if you read this and fix it please let me know as I don't like to leave such a negative review on an app that is otherwise good.

In 3 days, only spending 30mins at night, I learnt 30 Japanese characters to memory. How to say and write correctly.
I honestly can’t recommend this enough if you are looking to start reading Japanese.

Just love this app! Got it yesterday because I decided to set myself a challenge to learn Japanese which I’ve always wanted to do! I got a notebook and I review everything I’ve learnt which is helpful but just using the app works too. You do have to buy the lessons but I think buying all the lessons for the amount it is, is a very good price! Love this app!

Version 1.3.33
Sorry to be a little bit rude, but this app is rubbish! You can’t learn anything from this except for the only five hiragana characters あ, い, う, え and お. It also only lets you learn the only 5 katakana characters ア, イ, ウ, エ and オ. I can’t learn all of the letters because literally all of the lessons are locked and my iPad will not let me do an in-app purchase. It keeps on coming up with, ‘In-app purchases are not allowed.’ I hate this app SO MUCH! OMG! Please!!! Please, fix it, fix it now! Please I am learning Japanese and all the other reviews that other people wrote to you guys are good and they all think this app is really great. Please, fix your app and let me do an in-app purchase. Please, I hope you can fix it and goodbye. And I’m sorry for being so rude. Yeah, bye. Thank you so much and goodbye.

It’s very good however the characters “mi” and “wo” always crash the app after I draw it incorrectly, it’s also difficult to please the app when drawing both 9/10 times you’ll get it wrong even if you drew it almost perfectly.

There are plenty of other appsb offering the same content for free.

Essential App for Learning and Revising

Version 1.3.27
In this app, everything is layed out in a level-by-level format where everything you'll need to know about the basics of Japanese are only a tap away, you learn essentials such as Hiragana and Katakana, sentence structure, verbs, adjectives, and questions that will soon lead you to becoming a pro. The design is simplistic, modern, and mixes design with functionality. It's easy to tap between lessons and review everything in one big sheet. The learning aspect is also very good. You can opt in to learn how to write the characters, however it's completely optional. Writing the characters could be improved as sometimes when you write a character correctly it can mistake it for being wrong. But no app can be perfect. In all, this app is perfect for new learners of the language or people who are rusty and need to catch-up, if you choose to upgrade, (which I recommend), you won't feel scammed out your money.

This is a great app. I have been using it in conjunction with Japanese from zero. Very useful just to be able to pull out your phone on a bus and practice. You can choose to simply learn to recognise the characters or learn to write the A’s well.

I do not regret my purchase of the full version of the app but noticed that it often omits the particles that it introduces to you in that lesson making it very confusing. Also lesson 4 of verbs is broken as it ask you to fill in for a statement that isn’t on the screen

This is a great app which makes learning Japanese easy and fun. It helps you by repeating the symbols if you are struggling to learn them and also tells you when you need to review certain groups. Couple this with physically writing the symbols in the app should make the process of learning then all very easy!

However I believe the order in which it asks you what a character is should be shuffled every time the exercise is repeated to avoid your memory remembering by the order they come up

I tried the first lesson of the hiragana corse and I was impressed at how simple the app made it. On each level, (hiragana, katakana, kanji, basics, questions, verbs and adjectives) you got given a small ‘taster.’ I couldn’t help but pay to learn all the lessons in each levels. At first I thought “it’s going to be very difficult” but I can easily say that once you’ve got the first two down, (hiragana and katakana) it makes everything else so much easier! Definitely worth the money and if you think you won’t be able to remember all the symbols then it would help to practice writing them down as you go. However, the app tells you what you need to improve on as you’re going. I can easily say that I love it and I would definitely recommend to people that have an interest in the language!

Great app for learning Japanese. It has an occasional glitch where it will repeat the audio clip for the previous word/phrase instead of the current one.
Also, with the small screen on iPhone SE, I had one instance where one of the words you needed to tap to build up a sentence was on top of the “show hint” button at the bottom of the screen. Every time I tried to tap the word, the hint pop up would get shown instead. I eventually managed to tap the word by tapping the very edge of it (the part not on top of the hint button).
If they can fix the audio glitch and make the hint button smaller or move it to the corner - this would be 5 stars.
