Description

The Universe of Emotions App helps to increase Emotional Intelligence (EQ). The app contains a ‘universe’ of more than 2,000 emotions. The user can note their own emotional state, explore similar emotions and share their experience with friends.
Using the app builds emotional awareness and helps users distinguish between various emotions … for example, could you tell the difference between frustration and disappointment?
You can also track your own emotional ‘journey’ in charts and graphs, and take steps to improve your emotional state.
Emotions are at the heart of our well-being, health and performance. Emotional Intelligence is increasingly seen as a desired state in business and beyond. To date, there has been a lack of practical guidance on exactly how to build EQ – this app changes that.

What's New in Version 1.6

This app has been updated by Apple to display the Apple Watch app icon.
- Increased the response radius of emotions
- Alteration to date format
- Fixed bug on iPhone 5 that hides logs upon closing the app

I just purchased this and it’s a great idea but not well utilised as an app. The UI is crap. I can’t even log an emotion but I can close it and go back to the universe. Please fix this or rework it so the UI is improved and more phone friendly.

Just been trying to start to use this. Can’t get very far as it keeps freezing and unresponsive. I’m on an iPhone 8 running IOS 13.3.1 .
I have to crash the app each time this happens and start again.
Frustrated = yes.
Depressed = yes.

It doesn’t work!

I was very intrigued by the idea of this, having seen Alan Watkin’s talk online. Unfortunately the app is buggy, freezes, rarely works and I’m cross they have had the temerity to charge for it.

Valuable app. An easy and intuitive way to explore and inadvertently learn about the range of emotions one is experiencing.
Could be a little less buggy and the interface could look a little cooler - but simply having the emotions mapped out in relation to positive/negative, active/relaxed is something I’m very happy I paid for.

Brilliant for developing my Emotional Intelligence

Heard about this via TED talk on a leadership course and it's brilliant. In just a few days I have become more conscious of my emotions, broadened my vocabulary and understanding and feel more in control of my emotions through consciously thinking about them as a result of the app. Already I feel I am far better able to control emotions at work and at home. Fantastic app. (For this stuck on home screen, just click the title).

I really like the idea of this app having seen the Ted talk I purchased. I’m happy I did however the search button works only occasionally... and it was not without irony that I was looking for the emotion ‘frustration’ at this time... and luckily I stumbled upon it myself. I’m hoping there may be a knack this that I will discover through use as I think I will find this app
helpful to navigate myself away from negative feelings.

Helpful but a couple of issues

A good app to help you understand the different types of emotions and how they are placed. I had a couple of issues though:
1. For some reason it doesn’t always log what you write about.
2. If you then log again sometimes the first log will come back and you are left with two logs on the same day that say the same thing with no obvious way of deleting one.
3. I found not all of the emotions have an explanation which helps to understand the emotion.
4. Sometimes the navigation can be a bit touchy.
All in all a good app but needs some better usability not really worth the money.

Simple and very affective

After going through a 'perceived' mid life trauma and searching for help to make sense of it all, I found Tedtalks and got hooked on listening to Alan Watkins who mentioned 'Universe of emotions' so had to have it. Initially I thought it seemed very basic which was great as I have basic computer skills, but wondered how it could be of any use to me at all as there seemed very little info on it but as I started to look into the universe my awareness rapidly increased and I found that I was challenging myself to stay in the good areas within the first few minutes of exploring it. Such a simple idea but extremely affective for awareness of emotions as I find my brain focuses on spotting the good emotions I experience in a day because I know I can use them on my chart which obviously makes me focus on the good rather than the damaging negative emotions. I now know that my trauma was the best thing that ever happened to me as it has brought me to a new state if awareness which can only be good. Would certainly recommend this app to anyone who is stuck on the negative.

Turned on!

I love this app, it is such a clever way to track my emotions. Just a few days of checking in on myself, and focussing on positive emotions and I literally felt myself come alive. It was like someone had switched my power supply back on. The concept of a universe of emotions is a great way to navigate the rich palette of human experience. Dividing the universe into quadrants helps you think about where you are, and choose where you want to spend more time. Showing your journey around the universe cleverly highlights the emotions associated with positive experiences, and I think newer entries are brighter than older ones (that is just my impression!).
The calendar view provides a simple way of seeing how many 'positive' and 'negative' emotions you have logged each day. You can also see the total number of emotions you have logged in categories of decreasing 'coherence' which is interesting (Emotional Gravity). I would like to be able to see time trends in this data so you could for example see if you were logging less positive emotions later in the day. It would also be useful if you could click on the bars to take you to a list of your log entries for that bar.
I quite like the positivity over time section but don't really understand where the numbers come from. Being a scientist I am intrigued and unsure of their actual meaning!
Whilst I love this app I am not a fan of the emotional literacy section as I don't think you can capture sufficient information to gauge this. Perhaps if you could bring up an optional form for the emotions you experience to capture descriptive data (how it felt physically, appearance, sound, temperature, animal association, consistency, etc.) then you could track literacy but I think it would still be hard. I would love this sort of form as an add on!
So overall an absolutely fabulous idea, you might have heard of the Internet of things - imagine how much more powerful an Internet of emotions would be!!! Then we would have some really exciting options to measure progress and this app could make a fantastic contribution to individuals and who knows.....

To navigate successfully in today's fast moving world you need to be able to manage your emotions. To do this you need to build emotional literacy first so you can make distinctions about the emotions you experience and spot them early before they run you! This app is amazing as with 2000 emotions already logged it gives you a real fast start to building your EQ! Easy to use, navigate, and track your progress! Amazingly powerful!
