The worst app to EVER EXIST. AVOID AT ALL COSTS. It takes damn ages to do the smallest thing ever, it crashes constantly and it is just plain dumb. If you want to finish a tiny project in 10 years go ahead and get it.

This is an amazing app. It works very well with my Apple Pencil, it lets me have designs exactly as i wanted them, and it runs very smoothly on an A12 processor. Overall i found no problems with it. Beautiful.

Good but I’m still missing some features
As someone who started out using ProCreate on the iPad , it was a big adjustment moving over to illustrator purely for the fact I can create vector drawings which aren’t pixelated like Procreates images are.
Overall the app is good but in comparison to its Desktop version - there is a lot of effects and stylising options that are available on desktop but not on the app , I would absolutely love it if more features could be integrated on here to make the app more appealing

Possibly one of the worst apps I have ever used. It keeps freezing and some layers become unresponsive.. I’ve had to exit a file multiple times so I can work on the layers again, and that doesn't even work all the time. There also is no perspective tool which is extremely annoying. Thankfully there’s a free trial because I wouldn’t even pay 1$ for this app…

Missing a lot of features from the desktop version

So glitchy on an iPad
It’s great when it works, but so far I’ve run into 2 problems in 24 hours which have caused headaches.
The first issue I came across seems to be a documented issue with adobe illustrator specifically on iPads - I found when I went to change brush size it changed the size of all previous lines I’d made with the brush. After some Googling there didn’t seem to be a way around this particular problem (creating different layers etc didn’t avoid it) however I found that I could switch to the pen style and set a smaller stroke size without altering the work I’d done with the brush. The work I was doing was quite basic so thankfully this was sufficient a work around for me, but if you’re looking to use this software on an iPad for detailed digital art, I think this would be a dealbreaker.
The 2nd issue I’ve just run into however is that for some reason the art boards on all my work have now automatically gone black, so when I open the files I can’t see any of my work. When I close the file though the thumbnail still shows my work as existing exactly how I left it. I’m now having to try fiddling with settings etc to see if I can somehow get it back to normal. Again, a quick Google has led me to online forums with other people having the same issue that’s cropped up out of nowhere. I’m hoping I don’t have to uninstall the software and reinstall it just to access my work. If I do, I think I’ll just be abandoning this software. Life’s too short to be wasting so much time working around bugs. Not sure if this is an issue with the softwares interface on apple products only, but I’m disappointed. I expected better from adobe.

Constant crashing!
I’m using this on a 9th generation ipad, my ipad is running the latest software update, I’ve tried uninstalling and reinstalling the app, I’ve restarted my device and it doesn’t seem to matter what I do, Illustrator for ipad always crashes.
I only use it for one thing, to vectorise an image, create a contour cut line around the image (to print stickers) and export as a pdf.
When I go to export as pdf, I get a pop up every now and then that says ‘cannot export file’ so I have to save my work, restart the app and try again. Then it works.
After I have eventually successfully exported the document and attempt to do a second one it crashes when I attempt to import an image. EVERY TIME!
My only work around is to do one image at a time, close and re-open the app for every single image I’m working on.
It is extremely frustrating as Illustrator is the only program I know that I can create cut contours on for printing stickers on my Roland printer. As soon as I find another way, I will be cancelling my subscription with Adobe. Ten pounds per month for this pile of rubbish is disgusting.

Works half the time
When I try to vectorise items into sketch, sometimes it works fine then other times I am left with gaps. I am downloading all the images from pro create, and try saving them as different formats to correct the issues but again it will work then not work. Not ideal when I am spending a long time trying to fix it. I change the image colour and re save and again no consistency. I find darker colours work better but not always. I have checked and everything appears to be up to date app wise and iPad wise. So can see no reason for this.

Great app if it worked
The idea of the app is great, but it’s full of glitches, problems and becomes increasingly infuriating. Adobe support is terrible, hard to contact in a reasonable time frame and suggest despite evidencing the issues with video footage, they cannot recreate the issue. Really poor considering I have invested lots of time and money in adobe and the illustrator app.

Not opening on iPad
I just downloaded the Ai app and found it will not allow me to log in. I put in email address and password, verification comes up, I click to emails for verification code click back to Ai app and it jumps back to login.
I do the same again but this time get the verification from my other computer whilst I leave the app on iPad open, I put in the verification code and the app asks permission to go online, I give permission and once again the app goes back to login.
If this is fixed I may increase my rating, whilst being unable to gain access to the app on iPad I will not be able to change my rating.

Too many missing functionalities
I use Illustrator on MacOS for technical line drawings for sewing pattern drafting. The iPad version misses lots of small features that make it unviable for my purposes right now:
1. The rotate around a specified pivot point is clunky. You can't select anchors. The pivot point selector icon doesn't snap to anchors, plus it vanishes if you scroll or zoom, meaning you have very little chance of being accurate
2. You can't rotate a line around a specified pivot point. The hack is to group it with another line and rotate the group, which is tedious
3. You can't bisect a line (or even see where its midpoint is). You have to measure it and create a line half the size to use as a guide... And hope that you can line them up accurately
4. You can't add arrowheads to lines
5. Layers are buggy. Sometimes you end up with objects on no layer at all, just somehow floating
6. Drawing paths with either the pen or the line tool does not snap to the existing anchors. You have to go into outline mode to nudge anchors into the right place
7. You can't measure pen paths, only lines from the line tool. (You can do this with Document Info on desktop)

Keeps crashing
I have been using the desktop version of illustrator for years so was keen to try out the app for doing quick vector sketches on the go. Unfortunately it has crashed multiple times within just a couple of minutes of opening the app doing only a few basic strokes and the project is unsaved. That fact that it relies on saving to the cloud makes it difficult to access files if there is no Wi-Fi. It’s such a shame, this could be great and has so much potential but it’s a long way away from being usable.

I like the basic functionality, but I’m finding a lot of redraw issues (e.g. the layers palette shows items after I’ve deleted them. I have to open a close layers to have it refresh). Also crashed (e.g. while trying to use the camera to insert an image).

Too many bugs!
I had hoped v3 would be a big improvement but it’s probably worse for bugs. Layers become unresponsive, objects somehow exist without a layer, the text tool brings up Lorum Ipsum but then the button for the onscreen keyboard doesn’t work. Its just unusable. I don’t understand how it can be so bad when Affinity Designer works perfectly.

Illustrator on iPad! Amazing, but with some frustrating bugs.
This is a great streamlined version of illustrator with some basic drawing tools. Excellent for starting larger projects before transferring it over seamlessly to desktop over the could!
HOWEVER:
Two extremely frustrating persistent bugs really bring the experience down:
1. Sometimes the layers don’t update properly, still showing deleted content, or not showing pasted content.
2. WHENEVER YOU DOUBLE TAP WITH THE SELECT TOOL IT PASTES WHATEVER IS IN THE CLIPBOARD! This cannot be changed in the app settings, and has wasted so much of my time since I started using illustrator iOS in 2020.
The day these get fixed will be a good day!

Buggy
I love this app, makes drawing vectors so much simpler. However, it has some annoying bugs - shapes still appear in layers after being deleted. You cant use the shape builder when using the direct selection tool. The app freezes often when trying to select a layer with multiple paths, even on the top of the range ipad pro. My swatches also seem to delete when i close and re open a file. Would also be great if you could add the magic wand tool, knife and scissor tool and mesh tool.

Half baked
This app just isn’t working. If a file gets over a certain size it just lags when trying to do the most basic things like selecting layers.
I can’t seem to find a way to keep it from happening and it’s nearly every project I start. I’m running out of patience and am probably not going to continue with the subscription.
Another serious problem is that text on a path doesn’t stay where it was left. You open the file and it’s moved. Move it back and save it, next time you open it it’s moved again. And sometimes half the text has become corrupted and bits of it are missing.
Time to try something else for me.

Is it intuitive? About as much so as all Adobe software to a bright eyed new user, lol.
Adobe seems to be under some perverted impression that people are better off having the always save on cloud feature on by default. It freezes while it syncs the changes you’re making... as you’re making them.
You can’t select multiple points in a path and rotate.
It seems to decide what layer you’re working on on it’s own and it’s always the wrong one.
Sometimes if you undo too fast your path points remain visible but it doesn’t show your path anymore, like it’s oddly stuck in this sort of half state... I blame this as well on their weird cloud sync.
It’s a good effort but honestly has a ways to go. Try Affinity Designer.

I was so excited to use this app but it keeps crashing and not saving my work, and kept not wanting to export any files but with no explanation why. After hours of work this is extremely frustrating. Paying for the whole of Adobe CC is frustrating when not even the app works

Glitchy
Still so many glitches to be sorted, it just gets frustrating to get so far through some artwork and then stop responding, or the layer panel doesn’t show all the layers. Will be handy once it’s sorted but I wouldn’t pay for it as it is if it wasn’t included in my CC subscription.

Good app but keeps closing
Downloaded this app to draw and designs items for our clothing brand. It’s a great app does everything we need sketch wise, only issue been facing is that after a few seconds it keeps randomly closing the app and I have to re launch it and then start over again if it’s not been saved. Updated the app hoping it would fix it and it hasn’t.
Any reason it does this, and how to fix it?

Worst experience and useless due to massive flaws
I have had the worst time with Adobe. As a professional creator, if I create a piece that takes hours to create in illustrator iPad, I shouldn’t have to have an issue with colour pallet once that same file is opened on my MacBook - I waited over a week to get the most useless answer to this issue, when I tried to use the solution provided, it turned out the advisor didn’t even know the iPad illustrator app literally has no colour profile assigned or colour profile option. So please don’t waste your time making massive projects if colour and style matters at all- Adobe don’t care.
I was promised to be called back- never was. I asked to speak to a manager and was told I ‘need to learn to have a little patience’. They refused to let me speak to a manager! Unreal how bad the service is for a £40 pm subscription. I’m off to Affinity and Procreate.

Lacks so many basic features that I really can’t see what this is for. It’s kinda rude to the desktop version that this shares the name Illustrator. Finicky and Annoying
App has loads of bugs and doesn’t work properly. When trying to draw in mirror mode, if you make a mistake and undo, it deactivates mirror mode and keeps drawing in a new path layer. You have to try about 20 times to get it to work again, then you make another mistake and repeat the process all over again.

This app, I haven’t really seen. This app you have to pay! It’s not fair! This app may be great but we all might not have the money, and I know you get a 1 month free trial but really….. and if you don’t wanna pay you gotta! There’s no xS like other games. And why is logging in so hard!

It’s a good app, better than I expected. However, it’s really buggy..
Too many bugs, it crashes to often. It’s becoming a hindrance. Vectornator don’t even crash this often. It’s making want to cancel my Adobe subscription. Please fix this. It could be a greate app
Update: it’s becoming a joke now. I’m using 2020 iPad Pro and now i can’t even edit anything. The bugs in this app is ridiculous. I’m thinking to close my Adobe account.

Illustrator on iPad is a game changer for me
I’m genuinely impressed with this first release of Illustrator on the iPad. It’s actually a lot more polished and with more features than I’d initially expected. I love the fact that I can now sync my vector work from the desktop with my iPad. I’ve had a couple of issues with the app freezing when working with a lot of live text in different fonts, but nothing major and I’m sure bug fixes will be along soon. Only real request I have at the moment is to add image trace to the app and it’ll be pretty much perfect for my vector use. Great work Adobe! 👍

No family sharing support with Apple login option
For occasional users the subscription pricing model is daft.
I couldn’t find anything documenting whether family sharing is supported for this when using the Apple login option, but having failed to get family sharing to work during the free trial period Adobe support have confirmed it is not possible.

Small bug fixes
Very good at the moment just a few bug fixes that would be nice and maybe some added features,
Bug Fixes
- Sometimes layers won’t show in the layers panel until you close and re open the app
- Sometimes if you copy something from one layer and paste it in another it will paste a weird outline thing, closing app fixes it
Added Features
- Transform tool more like the laptop version where you can skew and change perspective more by adjusting each point individually
- Paint bucket tool for colouring and shading
- Choose if each new stroke is made as a new path instead of joining them

More features needed!
I use illustrator daily in my job as a fashion designer, so I thought this could be great for making work more portable. I create technical packs using desktop illustrator and also create designs to be printed for presentations. For this, I need to be able to add patterns! It’d be great if you could look at including this feature in future. Flat colours and gradients just aren’t cutting it right now!

Is there an option of No star rating?
The idea of illustrator on the iPad is great.......But they really shouldn’t be releasing it until they sort out all the terrible bugs, what a let down. I have the Latest iPad Pro, and it keeps crashing, losing the last 5 minutes of work, and to top it off, i now open the project to a blank screen. i Spent hours hours and hours trying to complete this job (with a deadline of this evening) and its all down the drain. To me, this is pointless if I’m going to get let down like that. Some people are using this to make a living, if it isn’t working properly then don't take peoples money, especially in this crisis. I now cant get paid. Thanks!

The ultimate graphic design tool!
I can’t believe how intuitive and functional this app is! I don’t think I’ll ever be able to go back to the desktop version. I just wish there was a cheaper subscription bundle that included photoshop and illustrator for iPad.

Glitchy
I was looking forward to using this app as I have used and paid for Adobe for years on desktop however after working on a file for hours it wouldn’t export. The most simple files struggle to save, the layers don’t seem to work properly. I’ve not experienced any problems yet with the limited features as I understand it’s just the app. Photoshop and Procreate are much better options.

It’s as if Illustrator was made for iPad
Using an iPad is the perfect device for creating vector graphics in illustrator. And so far from using it, the devs have done a really great job translating the user experience to touch and pen, with the touch zone in the bottom left being a great way to get some of those secondary actions you can’t get with a pen.

Would be nice to see...
- a bit more refinement to the direct selection tool (similar to other reviews, I keep moving my entire object all the time).
- a bit more precision involved in colour selection (for example, trying to get a slightly darker colour is quite tricky).
- the puppet tool (personal preference, I use this a lot).
- The ability to copy and paste parts of shapes instead of the whole path.
Basically the more features added from the desktop version, the better. Good work Adobe team, cracking app 👏

Direct selection tool hit and miss
App is okay but using the direct selection tool to edit your path is frustrating... often it moves the whole shape instead of the individual point and points cannot be moved into exact position when you zoom in further than 500%.... would be nice if you could rotate the screen too.

Never endes up trying
As a person who uses a lot of adobe programme as well as an iPad for work I was and still am really excited about this.
However when I got the chance to test it it would lagg whenever I would try and create a new file. Don't know why :(

Huge potential to be a workflow game changer but still lacking a lot of basic tools
I don’t usually write these but I’m keen for Adobe to update the program to a point that I can legitimately do my professional work from absolutely anywhere, even in transit or sat in a park. It’s a nice start but still a way from offering a similar level of performance to its desktop counterpart.
I usually use a lot of shortcut keys for a lot of functions which I understand is hard to implement in tablet format but I still don’t want to be running through menu lists to get to what I need to. I suggest custom tool menus for people to put their most used tools in one place. Either this or a a kind of pull-out numpad or list of keyboard shortcuts down the side of the screen.
Other than that, for me to be able to do the kind of jobs I do on desktop I am still missing a gesture command for rotate canvas, the Gaussian blur tool, the whole stroke profile set, texture swatches, blend tool, offset path, pattern tool, recolour artwork, and compound path tool.
Moving forward it would also be cool to add features that might enable co-working in real-time to promote collaboration.

I lost hours of work - it didn’t save
I’m enjoying this so far, it’s a good interpretation for the iPad. Workflow Is good, the UI is well laid out. Tools are easy to access. However... it lags horribly on my older iPad Pro. It’s like wading through mud. And worst of all, I just lost hours of work when it didn’t save. Export your files people! Don’t rely on the cloud.

Must have
Been using illustrator on desktop for around 10 years. Using it mainly for designing fabric and illustrations. The iPad version integrates very nicely indeed. Tutorials are excellent. Only downside is I wish they would add a charcoal based brush effect but that’s a personal preference.

Limited
I’m genuinely surprised how limited it is. Basic features are missing, for example: There’s no way to change the profile of a stroke, skew or shear a shape, or use effects such as glow, blur, etc. It’s also poorly optimised - drawing with the pencil tool rapidly slows the app down.
In contrast Affinity designer is much more fully featured, and has no performance issues - even in a document with several artboards, complex characters, and plenty of layer effects. Compared to Illustrator there are no compromises being made between the desktop and iPad apps.
£10 a month for this? That’s a bad deal.

A promising start for illustrator on the iPad
I was lucky to be able to try out the beta version last month and see what features had been included. I think the first version is pretty good, however, as you’d expect, there are some things missing which are in the full blown desktop version. I would love to see the option to include plugins which I use all the time on my iMac and a bigger choice of grids would also be useful to save having to design your own. Hopefully, these sorts of issues will be addressed in future updates. The beta version was very stable so I expect version 1 to be the same. The most important thing for me is the ability to work on illustrator graphics away from my desk - the freedom to do this is something I’ve been wanting for a long time. Overall I think this is a promising start to Illustrator on the iPad and I’m sure new features will be added over time.

So far so good
After playing around this morning, this is definitely an exciting app for me. The 2 features that I need to make it perfect would be; on the desktop I use cmd-k to change the nudge distance MM easily and secondly the ability to do equations when scaling/moving objects. The work I do is quite precise and I need the ability to shift and scale things accurately in relation to other objects.
