Version 2.4.1
Not as bad as people make out
Hazards helped me get 70/75 on the actual test and only 7 off a pass on the questions and all without ever having a lesson so it clearly can’t be that useless

I honestly think the 34 clips on the main app is enough, you even get more than on this one (30). I’d only buy this if you’re anxious and want to cover as much as possible

Version 2.0.23
Frustrating. Disappointing. Waste of money. This app is supposed to bolster your confidence before a theory test by instilling good hazard perception. Most of the clips have poor tap detection. Even though a red flag is shown, a tap isn’t necessarily registered. I average about 4 on these tests in the official app. In this app it’s 1-2 because I ‘clicked too soon’ even though I didn’t. The hazard appears. I click. Then a red circle around the hazard appears like a second or two later. I want my money (and confidence) back.

It’s okay but official theory app is better

Version 2.0.21
The app was okay but I would not recommend it. The clips are actual videos and not CGI clips like in the official test. Also I hated that there was not a ‘mock test’ you could do, there was 50 you could practice on but no actual mock test with 14 clips (including one with 2 hazards). The official dvla theory app is much better, although it only has 30 hazard perception clips, those are CGI and basically exactly like in the exam.

Believed it to be a full mock test

I tried the 3 free Hazard perception videos on the website but it wasn’t enough. I got the App and started practicing night before test and morning of. My mum even joined in and enjoyed the videos, as a mature driver.
The videos were great practice and loved how you can review where the hazards are so you can take note of how early you must be aware of a hazard.
I passed my test on the first go with just practice from the apps.
I got the app as a bundle (Theory test and Hazard perception).
You can’t go wrong with using the official apps.

Using it can be useful but irritating.

Version 2.1.1
It works okay, but it really annoys me that you can’t fast forward through the replay. Also it’s quite irritating that the videos are all quite low quality.
I’d recommend getting this for practicing, but it’s a shame it costs so much for this and the theory app.
I hope the developers can make some improvements to this in the future to create a better experience on the app.

I have official DVSA theory kit app which only has 35 videos and I wanted to practice more of these so I got this app as extra however this app is horrible to use. Some of the hazards are registered way too early and some as soon as you spot it. Which makes it hard to understand at what point do you actually need to press/tap. Some of the videos you have to tap when it is not developed yet and some of the videos you gave to tap when it is half way of happening. So how do you learn when to press? Too late? Too early?
Did not have this problem with the theory test kit app so not sure why this app is so rubbish. Please fix it!

Video Quality is awful!

Resolution isn’t that great, exposure is awful making it very difficult to spot hazards involving brake lights and indicators, as the change between off and on isn’t that apparent especially with the blooming around the lights.
Needs massive improvement to be really useful.

This app enabled me to pass first time. Highly recommend. Only downside is there is only 30 clips and once you’ve watched them and observed the hazards it’s hard to rewatch them without expecting the hazard. However 30 was enough to pass. Good luck to all taking the test in the future!

Useful, but has annoying faults.

The app is easy to use and most of the clips are useful, as they show real-life hazards which could very easily happen to anyone. That’s the point of the app - job done.
HOWEVER, some of the clips don’t score you fairly. Like when I noticed a hazard in one clip before it thinks you can notice it. I ended up scoring 0/5, when I should have gotten 5/5. I literally noticed it too soon. Even though, when you review the clip to see where the hazard was, the read circle (which shows you the hazard) appeared at the same point in the clip when I tapped the screen. I tapped just before the point at which it scores you 5/5, even though I noticed the hazard when it appeared. This is unacceptable, especially from an organisation like the DVSA.
The quality of the clips needs to be drastically improved. One clip shows you driving down a narrow road with trees either side. As you turn a corner, the hazard appears. The quality of the video meant that I couldn’t see it until it was too late - and I have impeccable eyesight. As a result, I scored 2/5 due to the poor quality of the clip.
These faults need to be fixed immediately. After all, you are affecting possible outcomes of people‘s theory tests.

Don’t buy

Honestly don’t buy this app. Everything you need is in the theory test kit app. This app uses the old videos which are grainy and basically everything in the clips they show you is a potential hazard , so you’re constantly clicking which is pointless . They use cgi videos now , which is what is in the theory test kit app , hazards are very clear and easier to spot . This app won’t help at all. They done away with those real (crap) videos years ago.

I bought this as I was confused as to what exactly is required in the hazard perception test. It seems you get no points at all for spotting a hazard very early & only score within a predetermined window of observation.
This app has helped me realise when to press to pass the test, not necessarily when you should.
The videos are also poor quality, which doesn’t help - even on a 12 pro max I’m struggling to see some hazards.

Don’t start with this

2021-04-21
This app really knocked my confidence when I first started practicing. It uses very grainy, low quality videos that make it impossible to see subtle head movements and even indications on a phone screen.
The hazard perception part of the Theory Test app is much better as it uses CGI (same as in the actual test) and it’s a lot clearer. Use this one for extra practice but, even then, take it with a pinch of salt.

It’s a good app to use, but I’ve noticed a lot of the time the video quality is not the highest, so it means sometimes you don’t see hazards far away because it appears too small or a bit blurry for you until you approach closer to the hazard - at which point you end up scoring 1/5 for being too slow.
Would be better if this was optimised

There is no point getting this app, the official theory test app has a hazard perception section included. Functionally, this app is fine but it serves no purpose if you are getting the official DVSA theory test kit and it confused me as to what to expect as the content was different to the actual exam. The scenarios on this app are different to those you will encounter in the actual exam (this app has videos while in the official theory test kit app it has animations like those in the exam).

There can be more videos in it of course. Like twice as much. Obviously you have to develop a “clicking technique” because it can be sometimes too early. It is quite annoying that anything can develop to be a real hazard. Especially animals, if I see one on a field I start the clicking like crazy while the task screen drops me out. Actually this one is more realistic than the real test as you cannot see the CGI low quality... Why don’t you people record more realistic videos with doubleurs and actors???? - Anyway, that’s a good App.

You have to tap the screen multiple times for it to register, the same issues other users have had, aswell as taps being delayed meaning you get a low score. Another main issue is the clips are really quite low resolution and blurry so it’s quite difficult to identify many of the hazards. The hazard perception in the other DVSA theory app is much better as it’s cgi so it’s clear and just a better overall app

Hazard perception follows different rules to the real test. This suggests you get up to 10 clicks per clip. I followed the same rule in the real test and got zero for most videos I only clicked 6 times on. Was the reason I failed. Don’t use the apps.

You had 1 key job: record the taps. Because this a poor hybrid app (basically a web video player in an app wrapper) the app screen wants to scroll. This means if there’s the slightest movement when you tap the screen it doesn’t register that you detected a hazard and instead tries to move the screen; or if your really unlucky it gets treated as a tap hold, highlights the entire screen and puts on the context menu so your following tap doesn’t count either. This is a cash grab in my books, the DVSA paid some very low end developers to make this app, and they obviously don’t care as the issues would be obvious in any QA. Unfortunately the only way to fix this is to totally redevelop the app from scratch with proper developers which the DVSA wont want to do until they’ve fleeeced enough money to pay for it.
Videos are low res, passable in most instance but when on a large screen such as my iPad Pro the night scenes with lens flare from lights are too poor quality.
There’s something like 20 videos here, you’ll be done in an hour.
Useful app for illustrating how flawed the hazard test, ooh look at the big bus it’s been there a while and clearly going to pull out so I’ll tap... what it’s too early I had to wait for it to indicate?

I have the AA computer version of the hazard perception and it is extremely responsive. The scenarios in this app are fine, but half the time my taps aren’t registered, and they are always delayed about half a second, which on something that requires precise timing like this is just unacceptable. Poor excuse for an ‘official’ app, if it worked it would be great. A test mode would be nice as well, where you get 14 videos like you would in the test.

The videos in the app are quite well constructed however when you actually click on a hazard you also need to press on the screen multiple times in the same section in order to pass. Sometimes even when doing this the taps are not registered.
Usually I did notice these hazards however receive a low score because not all taps were registered correctly. Most of the time it is a single hazard in a 20 second video that required multiple taps when you would think it would be just one tap?

Resolution of the videos is terrible

 –
2019-10-10
The screen still does not register when it is tapped despite feedback stating it the problem has been resolved. Therefore users are unable to track their actual progress in preparation for the theory test. Another issue is being advised to identify a potential hazard as early as possible, but if you tap too soon it may not score anything as there is a certain windows within which to score the necessary points to pass the hazard perception test. This is an issue my driving instructor advises does not equate to driving in reality as drivers need to be aware of potential hazards and be prepared to take action as soon as they see a developing hazard. This is unhelpful. Lastly the quality of the videos is poor for those with Scotopic sensitivity (Meade’s-Irlen Syndrome) or visual stress
