Still great fun and faithful transfer to iPhone but game freezes well into part 2 rather frustratingly

Please optimise for iPhone XS Max!!
The game/story is a classic and gets a five stars from me, but I’d reserve giving 5 stars via this review to this iOS port until the double or triple speed option is added - explained below.
Square Enix, I love this port, but three suggestions:
1. Please add double or triple speed for at least battles sections, for those of us who played through the whole game in the past, but still want to work through random battles and strategize against bosses, but don’t’ take have time any more to play with battles at normal speed! The fast speed option is present on the PS4 port already. There are ‘god mode’ and ‘no random battle’ options already, but fast speed would be a welcome addition.
2. Please could the game buttons be customised/changed for those with an MFI pad which want to switch the confirm button to match original PS1 layout. The confirm and back button are reversed from original ps1 layout on mfi pads.
3. There ought to be also be a way to hide by reducing opacity the ‘random battles’ and ‘a/d analogue/d-pad’ toggle buttons which currently cannot be removed from the bottom of the screen.
Otherwise this iOS version is superb, particularly with an MFI game pad.
Love this game! Do something to improve the view for iPhone X users it’s far too small to play currently :(
This is pretty much unplayable until save states are added. Forget about playing this on your commute!
This is THE game that got me into gaming!! Unfortunately for an iOS version playing this game on any phone after the 6plus just makes the developer look lazy.
Been far too long waiting for a simple screen readjustment for newer models!
All I want to say is that Teioh and Joe put up a serious challenge once you get to S class in Chocobo Racing. I don’t seem to remember losing this much back in the day.
But haven’t had great experiences playing this port and I’ve played it 4 times now. Haven’t played it in a while but there’s this weird bug where on the world map, Cloud will start to run really, really, really, really, really, really fast and it’s freaky. It trips me out every time that happens and once it gave me motion sickness. And all 3 times I played, I failed the side mission where you have to tap the correct code to get the Huge Material from out of Cid’s rockets because the buttons weren’t in the same format as a PS1 controller. Thanks.
Would be a 5star because I know that this is the exact same as ps version. And in my opinion it’s the best game of all time!! It’d be great if they recreated it exactly the same but with today’s graphics 👌🏻 anyways reason for my 2star is it’s not full screen for iPhone X is there going to be an update for this?? It’s far to small to play enjoyable on my phone :/ and I’m not really happy paying £16 for something that I can’t get into because of it..... fix this please??
Just so full of bugs it's unplayable. Don't buy.
Such a great game to play, especially now I can play it when on the go! Only downside is it doesn’t fit the screen for the iPhone X :( can only hope it receives an update for this! Would make this game perfect!
Incredible switch across to IOS! Runs smoothly and a joy to play which offers hour upon hours of gameplay! Brought back a lot memory’s!! Now remaster FFVIII!
Born 1985, still my favourite
My favourite game of all time, it's great to see this classic on IOS!
When are u going to bring out FF8 for IPhone pls
Had to remove the app temporarily from my phone, so made sure I had iCloud saving enabled.
Can see my save on iCloud menu and press download but 'Continue' on the main menu is greyed out :/
I'm a big fun of this game and I have played it a million times and I will carry on. This version of the iOS though doesn't have the special battles in the arena therefore I can't get the final attack materia....
Could you please fix that?????
They have done an amazing job!!
Can even save the game by iCloud.
Please do final fantasy 8!!! Please!!!
Also I'd love you lots if you dropped the price of final fantasy 9. I mean it's not the best one in the series.
But where is 8? I check the App Store every week in hopes that 8 will appear 🤓
Been playing since I was 12! now 30 with two kids. Took over two years to log the 52 hours to completion but certainly worth it. Being unable to have the time to get on the PS1, having it on the phone makes this life long dream of continuing my childhood RPGs. FF7 is inspirational
Very happy with the game how it works on my phone, definitely the best final fantasy game there is. Just like the PlayStation version from what I remember. Highly recommend this game to anyone who has played it on ps1 or Pc back in the day. Awesome!!!
Yes the ports not great, but it doesn't deter at all from the gameplay of this amazing game. Having played this so many years ago and playing it now you realise what a great game this is. The story, the gameplay, the characters, the atmosphere all still hold up after so many years.
Very few games hold true value and depth and this will always be one of the groundbreaking and innovative games of this genre.
Am glad to revisit FF7 after so many years!
Im very happy of ff7 for iphone but what happens to 8?
I've been looking forward to playing this game on my iPad Pro but unfortunately the sound doesn't work. I would have thought these issues would be ironed out but alas no help or troubleshoot pages, might as well go for a refund. This in no way means the game is bad but rather this version
Brings back the good old days absolutely loves it!!!
I like this i also leik toenailz
Please fix the jumpyness when on the world map and through some scenes its really annoying and makes the game slow, such a same as I love this game 😥
YAY IM GLAD THEY PUT THIS ON IPAD NOW I DONT NEED A PS2 and 1
This is my all time favourite game bought onto the iPad, it's perfect, exactly as it was. Well worth playing, the story and characters are amazing and the music is legendary. Cannot recommend enough!
This game was my childhood! So happy to have it on the iPhone and definitely worth the £12. The only thing that stopped me giving it 5 star was wide screen not being supported on the iPhone and having to play with 2 blue bars down either side of the screen. Other than that, it's probably the best £12 I ever spent!
And worth the money.
This game needs quicksave. I just lost 20 minutes of gameplay. 1 through 6 had quicksave, is it really that hard to program quicksave into the game????
All the memories come flooding back to when I played it on the PlayStation. Can play it over and over again and never get bored well worth every penny 👍👌
Eleven pounds and Ninety Nine pence. I am 5 star pleased based on off of the price alone. Thank you, Square Enix.
Enjoying the game up to the Shinra HQ prison Scene. But when I escaped the prison there was no blood on the floor or any way to continue the game. Really annoyed as I've put in several hours. Hope Sqaure Enix can either refund my money for a faulty game or give me a save data that I will be able to continue from. Very disappointed especially when it cost £12
It's a great game, I have no complaints about the mechanics and stuff. But it's a game in mobile, it NEEDS an auto save feature like FF9 does. With this you're stuck to saving at save points, for a mobile game that's unacceptable! Unless you're planning a long session it's not even worth booting this game up. And if you get a phone call? Returning to the app usually sees the game restarting, progress lost.
Great game, bungled port. Wait for FF8 instead (assuming t has the auto save feature FF9 has).
This game runs perfectly on your iPhone. Not a single loading screen or alteration to the game. It's EXACTLY as I remembered it.
There is a slight issue with initial lagging when u enter the world view.
However if you go to character menu and then return to the world map the lagging stops.
This is the only tiny flaw in an absolutely epic port of a Gaming classic.
I don't need to say anything about this game, I love it, it's a classic and one of my favourite games I have ever played. Controls are good and can now play it wherever and whenever I want. Not cheap but given how good the game is and how much Nintendo charges for their classics and no one seems to mind I would say it's a fair if not outstandingly good price. The game is worth the price as the quality is enduring and will take a long time to 100% complete. Thanks for releasing on iOS!
If your looking at this app then you probably know how good this game is and defiantly deserves a 5/5, so I'm reviewing the port and not the game. It's a terrible port of a game considering that they did the others so well, mainly it's the onscreen controls, they are just like an emulator, if I wanted controls like this I would of just used a PSX emulator to play the game because that pretty much what your getting. However, it doesn't take away the enjoyment of the game but it's still a lousy port. It could of been fixed on an update, not sure why it hasn't already but I hope it does, as of now it's not worth the price tag as an emulator is free and that's what your getting.
Massive FF fan since the early 90s, FF7 being my most favourite, disappointed with game to the point Apple have refunded me, decent audio and graphics but what is with the game frames getting bigger, FF9 was bare able but this no... I hope you don't do this with FF8 but this lacked a lot of mods compared to FF9.
It's FF7 just as it was, enough said!! Was brilliant back in 97 and still brilliant now. Makes me feel like a teenager again. Just buy it ;)
This is my favourite game of all time. It's just a shame that the saving in the early part of the game is save points only.
As a mobile game, it's so disappointing that I can't play 20 minutes on the way to work and save my state. If I'm nowhere near a save point, I have to close the app and lose my progress. Such a shame.
I think you should add a Seperate infinite Gil and a Xp multiplayer the max stats is far too op
My favourite game of my youth, and they've done the original prod with this port. Not perfect, but close enough. Please bring out FF8 now, need my gunblade fix.
As an avid fan of Final Fantasy VII I was obviously very excited to see it land on the App Store and be able to play it once again. However, looking at how great the ports of FF4, FF5, FF6 and FF9 are and the way they've been redesigned to specifically work on a mobile device as well as see major graphics tweaks (both on maps/models, and the UI), I'm somewhat disappointed that this installment didn't see the same treatment. This version is a direct port of the PC version released in 1997 with no alterations made at all (except the ability to use touch controls). Perhaps a big update could be released for this game which fixes all that, or maybe I'm just daydreaming...
This game is perfect for my long commute on public transport. The quality is fantastic and the controls have been ported over very well. Takes me back to childhood. Worth every penny.
