First you have to notice that you have to then download the catalogue and install it. I search for 8mm wall bolt. “Not found would you like to search online”. No I would like to remove this pointless app.

Useless Search Function/index

Try looking for ‘Pipe lagging’. You won’t find it. Try ‘Pipe Insulation’. Nope. Doesn’t exist. Lastly, try ‘Insulation’ then scroll through an endless list of vaguely insulation-related items with no pictures till you find something that might be what you want. It won’t be. Repeat this for ages and for every damn thing on your buying list.
When you finally find what you’re after, can you click and pay for it? Nope. There are more bloody hoops to jump through.
Useless, infuriating app. Fire the developers. No, better still, send them to a psychiatrist and try and find out why they inflicted this sanity-destroying cack bucket on humanity.

I was looking for a specific tool and did a search which came up with nothing so I searched for tools in general and it still came up with no results.

Would be great to have an iPad version of this offline catalogue. New app is great if you have good 4G, less so if you are stuck in a basement and need to build a shopping list. Oh, p.s hope the fix of the other app goes well so at least we can all log in!!

Version 4.0.9
Im a big fan of Screwfix and have always been impressed by their simplicity and ease of access to products.
I’m baffled by the shockingly poor design of this “app”. The need to download a massive - data heavy - catalogue, which then has no straightforward way of ordering ,seems to be an intentional obstacle to online ordering by phone. Im not easily stumped by technology- but I gave up on this and used a competitor.

Very poor, surprised at Screwfix.

Version 4.0.15
I don’t know who Okayed the latest version of the app but they need sacking. It is awful, absolutely awful to use. The old version may have had its issues but this makes things ten times worse. So now you have to download the entire catalogue/s to be able to search and the search is shockingly slow and almost never finds what you’re looking for.
The only redeeming feature is that Toolstations app is as bad if not worse. I wonder if they are done by the same company.

This app is terrible, glitchy, slow and extremely frustrating not user friendly whatsoever. Don’t believe me then try downloading it and make a purchase. Then most stores never having the items in stock if your lucky enough to find one trying to make a payment for the item is a nightmare. Pop up ads, pop up questions, offering ad ons. I just want to pay. I lost count in the amount of times I had to click on the pay button that takes you to the basket only to be presented with another pay button asking you to click again to the basket then another and another come on is this really needed. Rubbish I’m using Toolstation now.

The last update threw the entire ability to browse online from within the app and add it to the chopping cart and check orders. As such, this app just became utterly useless and will be deleted after this review.

Such an annoying app... log in at start screen, then still have to log in at order screen. Does not remember or recover email address or password like nearly all other apps do, no quick access pin, annoying back button takes you out of shopping, often logs you out if too long, drops basket list whereas other apps will hold it till you delete it. So frustrated with it I'm considering going to Toolstatio which is further away, but with the daily frustration of this app, it will probably be worth it!

I buy quite a lot from Screwfix, usually small stuff for DIY but I thought an app would be great and useful for browsing quickly, easier checkout, historic purchases etc. Unfortunately not.
Really, the app is just a slower and less feature-rich version of the website. Looking at the release history, there’s not even been a minor update to the app for over 3 years, just bug fixes & patches. Which is odd considering the terrible reviews it has.
You do wonder how companies like Screwfix expect to survive the next 10 years whenAmazon (and others) are forever innovating and developing better and faster delivery along with an amazing experience in their apps.

Don’t really see the point in the app to be honest. It just takes you to the shop in the browser, where you have to log in again.

I don’t get the point of this app at all .... you can’t search and shop in the app, it gives you an option to ‘shop online’ which takes you through to the website interface, but with slower performance and less screen space than just using the website through a browser on your mobile.
What a waste of money developing this - someone got sold the emperor’s new coat!
Kinda feels like someone said, we should get a mobile app 💡. We’ll let people download the catalogue, so they can squint at it on a mobile phone. And we’ll have a link through to the website to shop online! 😂🤦🏻‍♂️

I use the screwfix app often. I like how easy it is to search for items, simply typing in key words to find or in the drop down menus. Special offers are always great to look at as you sometimes have some great deals. (Black friday 2020 some great deals)
Issue i have found is finding my previous orders via the app. Id like to see a ‘my orders’ section so i can re-order products.
Sometimes the app is glitchy too! I sometimes click on something like ‘specific screws’, press the back button then it loses where i was up to, therefore going back to homepage again.

Ive been busying off screwfix for years. As a company they are great. There app works ok but very annoying. Website is better but not great. Search functions very poor. Easier to google search a screwfix item than the screwfix search. Once you do find the item the descriptions are pathetic so have to read through the Q&A section to possibly find your answer. Even simple things like sizes are missing. Very poor. On the plus side once you finally find your items, ordering them is great, pickup is great, customer service is great, prices are good, quality if items is usually great and returns are easy. Pull your finger out screwfix and improve the app, search function & item descriptions and you would have 5 stars off everyone im sure.

Having just downloaded this app I’m about to delete it straight after this review. On opening the app you are greeted with the usual Covid warnings and couldn’t find a way to exit this and do a simple search until I realised you have to download the whole catalogue or should I say catalogues as there are two to choose from which take up many megabytes in your phone. No thanks.
Just had a second attempt at using this app. It can only be used in portrait mode but doesn’t use full screen anyway. This app is useless in every way. Very strange for such a huge company.

I’m a bit of a fan of Screwfix and buy very regularly through the website, but this app massively undermines their customer experience.
All this app seem to do is point you to the website, unless you download the catalogue (100mb) and I guess you need to keep remembering to do this (and also separately download the special offers). This might have then perhaps meant that you could add items offline (for example when out on site), except that you can’t add anything to your list unless you’re online.
This then leaves you thumbing your way through the pages of the catalogue. You can navigate the various sections as you would in store, but if you search for a specific item, you just get a list of products, with no pictures. If you go to the index, there’s no search function, so you have to scroll through everything to find what you want.
Navigation around the app is unintuitive. It also keeps defaulting to a store that I’ve never even been to and I can’t seem to set a home store.
Deleted app after 10 minutes of frustration and bemusement as to why they have even bothered with this and will just continue to use the website.

Why do I have to log in EVERY time?!?

I’ve had to use the app much more due to current circumstances. This hasn’t necessarily being a problem, but why-oh-why do I have to sign in every single time I use it? No Touch ID, no face recognition...even if it just kept your user name already populated it would be a help. But no, I have to go through the rigmarole of full email address and password every time I use it.
Also, why doesn’t the search box reset every time? I do a search - last thing I need is to then add to the search line with my new search item. Bizarre!
if you’re going down the route of reducing footfall perusing in ship, get your app sorted so it is easy and intuitive. Come on Screwfix, you’re better than that!!

I had this app a few years ago and deleted it because it was useless. I thought I’d give it another go surely they’ve improved it by now. Apparently not!! I honestly have no idea why they have released this, it’s an embarrassment. It takes you to the website to shop, which defeats the point of an app. It doesn’t remember you and neither does the website so you have to re enter your details and find your nearest shop. Why when everyone else can manage to make a usable app you can’t is a mystery. A truly disappointing experience I shall delete it again now

The old app was poor, the update is unworkable.

Utter, utter rubbish.
Whatever you paid your developer for this clunky load of junk was too much. Even if it was 10p. Actually, even if they paid you, you got a bad deal.
No settings.
No favourites.
No ability to add an item to your lists directly from the web page. This means you either have to use a paper catalogue so your lists page can be open, or write everything down so the online catalogue can be instead. Particularly as the catalogue resets all your search parameters as soon as you navigate away from it.
App now opens to a “home” page, which is just an advert or a link directly to the web page. Access to lists, and everything else is via a “menu” option that’s in a tiny portion of the top of the screen. Ever considered how difficult and frustrating it might be to have to keep looking for that whilst a passenger in a moving vehicle?
Sort it out.

What’s the point?

I hope Screwfix didn’t spend much on this because it is fairly pointless. If you want to order anything, check previous purchases etc, it takes you to a carbon copy of the mobile browser version of the website. I order often from them often, so I always have the mobile site open in a browser window on my phone. This just adds extra steps to the process.

What an embarrassment of an app. Don’t waste your time.

I spend a lot of money at Screwfix, I’m there every week. I decided therefore to try the app as I always found it very frustrating to constantly have to find a store in the website even though I shop in one only. If I’m logged in, why can it remember a default store?! Anyway, got the app assuming it would at least do this. It’s actually worse, you have to log in every single time, it won’t remember stores, it will delete your basket if you switch to another app, it doesn’t work on an iPad, it’s clunky and slow. For a national brand with people who ordering frequently and using it for trade and the public, it is quite shocking how poor the app is. Considering, it looks like SF are moving to ordering online only (rather than in store), I’d suggest some rapid investment into your app which I, like many others, have used only to delete it rapidly.

Painful

One word says it all. Painful. Slow, need to hit buttons 4 times before the app responds. Why do developers keep asking what we want then do nothing about it. We have had to use this app 24/7 during Covid-19, and it’s awful. It’s easier and faster and cheaper to drive 20 minutes to the builders merchants that’s more expensive, by the time you have navigated around this thing you’ve lost an hour of your day if you are ordering quite a few things.

Not liking this new app layout. Obviously not produced with tradesman in mind. Previous layout had everything needed within easy tap of the thumb at bottom of screen. Now another app with a hidden menu at top of screen making it more awkward to just tap & get what I need. Why is it that App developers put marketing before practically? Previous versions layout was very good for access using 1 hand with thumb. Trades men are practically minded we don’t make things harder than they need to be! There is nothing of any use within immediate reach if using 1 handed as most of us do. Please put the icons back at the bottom of the home screen. Be practical.
Disappointed.

Still incredibly poor

Amazingly, after poor reviews from over 2 years ago, the developers don’t seem to have changed a thing. I downloaded the app yesterday as I wanted to be able to buy items through it so I wouldn’t keep having to log into the website. Instead, I get redirected to the website to complete an order and go through the log in process every time. What is the point of that!? Save yourself time and just go directly to the website, this app should be rebranded as ‘crapp’. And developer - don’t reply saying ‘thanks for your feedback’ if you’re not going to do anything to remedy it.

Awful do NOT download!!

Place an order and paid for it through the app only find be told my payment was “not registered on the system” so I had to pay again in store! 5 days later and I still have not received my money back!! I phone the customer service while in the store, who were no use, and they told me to email, which I did, only for them to then pass on the issue to the “customer resolution team” who have not even responded to say they have started dealing with the problem. I just finished calling the customer service team who after hanging up on me twice have said I will hear back no later than 48 working hours!!! 😂😂 “48 working hours?” I asked! Haha So can you tell me the time you passed on my case to the customer resolution team? “No” I get told. “So which day and what time is the latest I can expect to even get an acknowledgement they have received my case?” “I don’t know” is the response! What a great company to deal with. Don’t download the app, and don’t use Screwfix as a supplier is all the advice anyone needs!!!! They are part of the Kingfisher group , who are apparently renowned for a lack of customer care.

If you search for 6mm washer it will show everything with a 6 in it ans everything with washer in it
Also very poor when it comes to payment, offers paypal but never works, been like this for over a year
When you try to add a new payment card it is almost impossible
I have abandoned several orders for hundreds of pounds because having spent 20 mins making an order I cannot find a way to pay.
Toolstations gain though!

I love screwfix but the ordering side of the app is a nightmare. Every time I need to order anything I have to login every time. This isn’t the essence of having an app as it essentially links you to the website. When will you fix this. I can see from previous reviews that a lot of people have lots of issues similar to this and you acknowledge the review by saying please tell us about it but I can’t see any thing being done or messages to say we are going this fix this or that etc. Very poor app for such a large company. I ll give this app a D- must try ALOT harder.

No Additional Benefit

I love screwfix and use them often but this app was a huge disappointment. I genuinely don’t see any point to downloading it when the screwfix website is far more convenient and quicker. You can access the website from the app but you can do that with a bookmark and at least from a book mark it automatically signs into my account which the app doesn’t. It would be nice to shop directly within the app and see your basket within the app which you can’t do. Hopefully this is just a first stab and the app will improve but for now I’m deleting it as it’s just using space that can be better utilised elsewhere.

Log on again!!

I find the app generally good and easy enough to use.
My main gripe is that it constantly logs me out of the app and I have to then go through the whole log in procedure again. If it populated the log in name that would be a help but it doesn’t even allow the predictive text to assist.
It’s not a massive issue but as a professional user it gets very boring.

Just use the website

I’d expect a stand alone app to at least offer the same benefits as the website, usually in a more streamlined fashion, but it doesn’t.
The primary use of this app is to shop at screwfix, yet the app just opens a web browser within the app that takes you to the screwfix website. It then fails to remember my login details (one of the other key benefits to using an app) so I have to enter them every time.
There’s no real benefit to this app. You’re better off bookmarking the website (which actually works rather well on mobile) and using your browser and delete the app to save space on your phone.
The only real benefit to the app seems to be if your offline and want access to the catalogue, but in reality you’re better off just searching the website.

Terrible

The app just seems to be a page, a page that is a gate way to the website, and that’s when it all falls apart.
Firstly it says ‘logging on’ so one presumes when you hit the lets go shopping link it’s actually logged you on. Nope every time you have to enter your entire email address and password, very painful when you have a long email address.
It’s so bad the app it was easier to save a page on google while being logged in at least then you don’t have to log in every time you want something.
Come on Screwfix good service, great catalogue and the worse app in history.

This screwfix iPhone app is terrible. So you sign in to the app which is fine but If you want to shop and browse items you select the shop online icon and it opens a browser within the app and the top right of the page it says sign in/register even tho you have signed into the screwfix app! Really bad designed this app.
Why can’t the screwfix app be designed like B&Q, Argos, apple store, Tesco and other shopping apps. You open their app and you sign in just the once and you can search and shop within the app.

Completely useless - just a front to go to their website

You come across bad apps but this Screwfix app, beats them all in being the most useless one. A proper app should allow you to do shopping lists with product codes showing, have ‘settings’ to set your preferences (does not exist), mostly being able to shop using the app itself not sending you to their website. Shame on you Screwfix. Spend a bit of your enormous profits to have a proper developer design and develop a proper app. It must start by asking your customers on your store what they want on your app, not just imagine what the customers want as clearly there is no one in Screwfix management with the slightest imagination judging by this extremely useless app.

Very poor experience

At its heart is a glorified app that accessed the website - and it does that badly!
It has a few more features, but if you want to shop, by the time you’ve logged in to the app, and re-logged in to the store (same details) in the app and then the confusing navigation has meant the back button isn’t back to search results - you would have been better just loading the website in a mobile browser.

Good to see consistency from Screwfix. Just like lots of things you can buy from them, (especially there LAP CR*P) this app doesn’t work properly and requires a good whinge to get it sorted! Whereby my whinge is - When setting up the password from the email link, the link goes to safari to open up in screwfix but every time you do this safari crashes and the phone goes back to the home screen, whereby you can’t set up the apps password, but strangely you can still open up the screwfix website by starting safari and typing screwfix in the search bar, however this doesn’t give the option to set the app password.

Very Poor App

I have to agree with several of the reviewers
The app doesn’t even allow me to check my previous orders. (iPhone 6). I always click the online button and do it all that way. It is an absolute pain to have to open every receipt until you find the item you are looking for. The staff in store have exactly the same problem. Why can’t you just list all the items in date order with a single line each so they are searchable in a sensible and time efficient way?
Further having checked the new app I will not be downloading it if it doesn’t automatically log me in. If I have to do that I probably will dispense with the app all together. Can’t you get around the regs by giving us a once only choice so we can agree to stay logged in or similar?
Hope this helps.

It needs a rethink, very poor.

The Screwfix app has many problems:
1/ The catalogue navigation is very basic. I’m a plumber and there are a lot of pages in the plumbing section. There should be a quick way to jump to certain products like, “brassware” instead of having to swipe endless pages of radiators etc.
2/ The search function is poor. Try searching for “copper pipe”. It does not find it. It finds “copper tube”, but surely increasing the search terms makes it a more useful feature. We want to use this app to save us time, but it isn’t working. Come on Screwfix, it’s pretty basic really.
3/ Once a shopping list is compiled and you wish to pay for collection it sometimes does not carry all the items on the list over. I recently had 13 items in a shopping list and it only carried 11 items over when I went to pay. I went back to the list to check and confirm I had 13 items in my shopping list, which I did. I then went back to the pay and collect screen and I had 11 items still and it had doubled the number of items I required. It’s a useless and frustrating experience.
There are surely more faults but have not really the time or energy to be the developers test monkey.

Ok as i can see the catalogues but overall poor

I buy quite often from screwfix, and the app has several shortcomings:
- Doesnt memorise my paypal login.
- shopping experience is nothing but an embedded webview, and back button sends me back from shop, which i tapped by mistake a lot at the beginning.
- some of these seem to be caused by the web platform it uses, but all in all, the app design is outdated and not very user friendly:)

Not as good as the website

After purchasing an item, I often want to buy another. The website lets me see which items I have purchased recently, so I can easily reorder. The app does not have this facility. Using the app, I have to look at each individual receipt to find that specific order where I purchased that item, I then have make a note of the item number. I order from SF often, so there are so many receipts to go through to find the item I want to reorder. Eventually once I have found my item, I then have to go to the home page and then type in the item number. This can be very time consuming, and therefore if I want to reorder items i will log in via the website instead of the app as it is so much faster to complete the sale. The dedicated app really should provide a better user experience than the online website, otherwise it is pointless. Please improve.

Terrible app.

This app is all over the place. Had it for a few years but the search function is awful. I’m an electrical contractor and if you search for something like connector blocks (a thing that every electrician knows and uses), something completely different comes up. It’s quicker to google and then click on the Screwfix link. Try ordering a pair of work trousers. The sizes are spread out over about 4-5 pages. Why not click on a pair of trousers you want and then select the size? Simple really. For a company the size of Screwfix, this should be sorted out.

Searching is poor

Looking for “Oil”: only results “Oil filled radiators” where you’d expect any product with “Oil” in its title to be returned .... like “Oil” or “Penetrating Oil” for example.
And why doesn’t the app search for Screwfix products within the app like every other supplier? Why do you have to download a catalogue? Why do you have to be redirected to a website rather than have the app do the search on the current Screwfix database server? Takes me less time to drive down to the Screwfix unit a couple of miles away and browse the catalogue hard copy.

Great when it works

I’ve been a Screwfix App user since I joined, recently (last 48hrs) the app has been giving me problems, e.g. I open it then it closes but when I double tap my iPhone button to see what apps are open it shows it is, then I click on it and again nothing - screen goes blank. I deleted the app a few times now hoping to fix things and again nothing. Not sure what cuz no other app on my phone has this problem, so now I must keep going online to place orders or search for items.
The company itself is still great but this app has a poor rating sadly. No news from developer either to give warning , etc.

Annoying.

Why oh why can I not return directly to a page after adding something to a list? It’s such a basic error by the developers apparently not understanding the usages of the app. Generally we will want several items from the same page so either you have to trawl back through the index to return to the page after enter ignite each item on a list - or write down the item numbers on a list first and enter them all together. Might as well go to the store and write out an order ticket there!

Just downloaded the app and it’s got the potential to be really useful. It’s seems a bit pointless to have the shopping element of the app basically just load a browser within the app. It would be good to be able to have an ‘add to list’ button on items when you’re searching from within the app which gives you the option to add them to the relevant list you’ve created.

A great little app for both pro’s and DIY fans!

Initially I gave this a bad review, giving it a reluctant single star. See below :
“After spending three days of trying to set up the app and my logins not being recognised I have given up and deleted this application 👎🏿”
I must admit that after having had second thoughts I reinstalled the app and was quite impressed! As a keen DIYer I like the shopping feature and the fact that you can keep and review receipts, download catalogs and special/seasonal offers etc.
Still learning the user interface but now I am of a changed mind hence the update to my initial rating.

To developers: please get back to the design board. Read Apple UI guidelines, think what the user wants to archive. Tips: remove shopping list, I can use Notes App for that; improve authentication e.g. Chexbox keep me logged in should not be in the App at all, a phone is a personal device, use Touch ID, popular identity providers. You don’t need to reinvent the wheel use Firebase auth. Go native, make searching, adding to a basket easy. Use Apple Pay. Then your App will be worth downloading and customers will use it. Right now you might have worked on the App hard but it is unusable and beyond repair. I will use your website instead.

After using it for a while a have decided to give an update. App has 7 features: 1) it is great that you can view all your spendings in one place 2) shop through all screwfix database (even it is simple online version which you can access on simple browser much faster) 3) you get an ability to download all the newest catalogs with all the offers 4) find where is your nearest screwix is based on your current location & easily check bank holiday opening times 5) it has your screwfixcard inside. Although, i find the 6) offers tab and 7) notes/list tab to be pretty useless. If I ever need a list i will better use simple pen and paper or native iOS app for faster access.... in the end, it is not it its best condition at the moment and is still very ‘Old school’, however I am still keeping it on the phone...

It’s all good except the relationship between online shopping, which I use to identify item numbers, and my lists. Each time I leave online shopping to enter an item onto a list, when I return to online shopping my search parameter has been reset. So, for example, if I’m working through say drainage to find several items, I’ve either got to write down the item numbers as I page on which somewhat defeats the object of the app or search from page one each time I’ve entered an item on the list. Also, not specifically about the app, Screwfix online searching is haphazard to say the least. The search criteria interpretation needs to be tightened up to prevent pages of irrelevant items being returned. Both things really annoying.

If only the technology in store was this good!! I can search back for my receipts. I can set up my lists and all staff have to do is scan my QR!! A few checks and away!!! Imagine if all the customers joined the 21st century and used this app, it would make staffs job easier, queues less and those catalogues obsolete!!

When trying to search the catalogue it doesn't find it even something like a hammer, the app tells you to search online that at least works. NowI have got a problem in that I cannot download the main catalogue? Error message 403, having said that I have just downloaded the main catalogue?

This is not a perfect app by any means, however, what I wanted to do was have a quick glance at how much I have been spending, use my screwfix card without carrying one and that's about it. I don't like the web database as it seems a poorly executed pseudo boolian back end. However I thought I would give 5 stars as it does what I need to and if I am going on line then I will be on a large screen.
