No need for netgear to farm this out under a different paid app this should be under the netgear router app, as for the app itself, it’s painful don’t waste your time!

Avoid

Be very careful before you fall into the trap of buying a router with this software bundled in. It isn’t apparent how little is offered with this software unless you pay a monthly fee for the sort of protection that most other routers offer for free. It might be up for debate whether or not it should be offered for free but it should be much clearer up front that proper functionality and control comes at a price. What functionality there is for non-premium requires far too many steps to configure even to the limited level that it does offer. Avoid this app and if it comes with a router: choose a different router.

Circle works but the app needs updating

My device list is huge and it’s very hard to identify devices. How about a search function for MAC address or vendor? Going through one by one to check MAC address? Come on.
Also I want some universal off times, but to do that I need to go into each person and set the same time limit.
It works, but the UI is painful in places.

I think the system does not get the credit it deserves. Was able to set time limit, filter media, bedtime, stop time for homework with the option to allow the use of specific website/app used for homework and to even do the same for shared devices like tv and consoles. To allow educational media during off time go to filter>custom filter>type site url>click the status button until it gets to unmanaged>save. Some devices do not get configured straight so u need to reboot your router and plus the circle device(from the app) .

I am a overly concerned parent when it comes to protecting children from the dangers of the internet, I’m a school Governor that provides CEOP (Child Exploitation and Online Protection Command) in school to children, a big issue we face is that today’s children are much more technology reliant and aware than their parents, mainly due to the evolution of computing. This results in parents being outsmarted, when I came across Circle, it sounded too easy to be true but it is! Two wires and in-app setup and the whole house is protected at different levels depending on the user. This stops blanket bans which frustrates parents when they face the same blocks as children, this way circle can ensure the adult content is only viewed by adults while simultaneously protecting the children at correct level for their age group.
I can’t sing Circle’s praises anymore!

Doesn’t work

Circle is incapable of managing internet time for my children with any accuracy and tells me they have spent 4 hours on the internet by 8am when they were fast asleep and everything was switched off. Useless and annoying control system.

Great UI with good features. Am able to see who is connected and what they are connected to and from which device.
The historical view of browsing history is great, and shows how much ads impact our online lives...

The basic features worked well but really it’s was then premium features I needed and could not get them to function. After two weeks of chat sessions have lost hope. Issue is with there developers. Also found Orbi to be incompatible with some of my devices. Would be a great setup if it worked. Considering buying the Circle Home appliance as this is cheaper after 2 years and can be moved between routers.

Version 2.0.15
I work with this type of tech for enterprises, for the investment and a little bit of time, this is a great cost effective way to provide a layer of protection for your children.
Major positives:
Can control popular apps easily with time limits
App provides very quick and often instant control to ‘pause’ internet
Downsides:
Changes to app control isn’t always instant.
Important:
Make sure you discuss the objectives with your children and explain the reasons why
You can only control your local network at home. For control on the go, you need to purchase the additional subscription. We don’t do this as our child has a phone without data, we have control by sharing our ‘parent’ phones as personal hot spots. This works for younger children obviously.

Too complicated

Circle is the best way I’ve found of policing the wild West of boys gaming on their computers. You can set the times of the day they can access Internet and you can set how long they can spend online - and you can stop them entirely at the push of a button. This is amazing and takes a lot of pain out of trying to regulate their use. The only real weakness is that it can’t regulate off-line computer use. That would be amazing.

Great control

Spent hours setting devices to users, bed times, content filter and limits to usage, only to find my daughter sitting their watching the same rubbish on YouTube, very annoying.
There seems to be no way to immediately stop usage, so it’s more messing with endless parameters. Used our pact before, which was great accept it rearranged and the apps on my daughters phone, which annoyed her no end.

Version 2.0.15
Just that, it makes every device connected to your Wi-Fi controllable via timers. Make an account for each person in the house, add their respective devices to their account then you can set times for internet access off at bed time, on in the morning or pause access to all their devices if they’re getting on your nerves. Block access totally to sites like YouTube or Facebook, independently of any timer.
It’s given my wife her sanity back. And brought 2 unruly kids back into line :D

Version 2.0.4
I bought the Disney Circle as my router has limited capabilities for controlling my kids' WiFi time. It's a small white cube shaped device which connects to your router wirelessly or via an Ethernet cable. It then intercepts the comma traffic to and from the router and blocks or allows access dependent on the specific settings you make in this associated app. It doesn't only control WiFi access but also devices connected via Ethernet cables. I have to say that its exceeded my expectations for a number of reasons.
1. It's incredibly easy to set up. The app's build in wizard leads you through the installation process and within half an hour I was up and running. There's also lots of good advice on the website to list compatible routers and other technical advice.
2. The level of control the Circle gives is fantastic. Each person's access can be controlled by device, limiting time or access based on preset age profiles. You can then customise this as you see fit. You can also extend time or instantly pause access to a single individual's profile at the tap of a button.
3. The App is really easy to use. The individual profiles you set up have photos assigned so you can quickly navigate to an individual user. Group access devices like the family computer can be assigned to the home category. Each person can have multiple profiles (e.g. one profile for their games console and another for their iPhone) if you want to set different time ranges for access.
This little device and app was exactly what I was looking for and I don't hesitate in giving it 5 stars. You should check router compatibility first on the website before purchasing the device.
