Brilliant

This app works so well. I’m really impressed. Many of my friends who were impressed with the way it improved black-and-white photographs particularly.

Only thing I would say is would it be possible to have the ability to choose the main colour that i wish to put in a photograph. It coloured my bicycle as a child blue whereas it was really crimson. I know it’s not much but it would make it a little better.

These apps are in themselves useful. However the company behind then just wants your money and will have it at the earliest opportunity. If you miss cancelling the free trial due to circumstances being your control you won’t get your money back. Be warned.

The app is good - the support not

I like the app however I wish I could search by folder as well as by tags. I have contacted support who said this was possible but there instructions do not reflect what I see when I log on. I tried to look on the computer instead of the App but it tells me I have no account … even though I am a paid subscriber…! Technical issues that need sorting out especially if you are uploading a lot of photos at once. I did reach out for support but the lady who responded clearly did not know the app as she gave me incorrect instructions twice so I still can’t sort the issue

Beware of this app they offer you a 3 day trial and then take the money! I tapped on the 3 day trial and they took £59.99 and I am unable to get it back. However o did try out the app and it’s subpar to say the least. My original photo was better than the edited version. Oh and also the in-app support is non functional!

Easy to use

The flexible phone mount is a must have, as is a remote clicker to start the scans without any shake. I like the ability to scan multiple photos at a time and I’m impressed with the restoration abilities of the AI.

Dishonest and forced into paying later with no warning. Downloading photos should be a basic feature

At first the all leads you to believe you can use it for free if you accept apps. It allows to you take, edit and download the first couple fine. So I spent a long time with my elderly family member going through all the old photos. When I went to download to share I was not allowed without paying. No free as version allowed all of sudden. What a disappointment and a waste of of considerable effort

Missing features

Nice idea but it’s missing some features on the app. You can’t manually adjust contrast, exposure etc which are all the basic features of the standard Photos app, can’t import any photos from your camera roll and oddly the AI sharpen feature only seems to do the faces?, why not the whole image?

“Delete album” button is oddly well hidden too in the album edit options.

Awkward to ‘scan’ without getting reflections or shadows. Once this is finally done, the scan quality is fairly poor. Can save to device. Otherwise Google photos rather than iPhoto.

1st class App.

This app is absolutely wonderful and I have never seen anything like it. I have spent the past hour scanning many of my old school photos from 60 years ago and the results are amazing. Old black & white family photos from another age turned into colour, my mum & dads courting photos taken before I was born turned into colour. This is truly an amazing app and well worth the money paid.

Intelligent, usually

Now when I’m away from my scanner I got a great way to use my phone to get a good quality scan in those ad hoc moments. This is not like taking a photo of a photo, it’s a scan with all kinds of magic that detects edges, straightens the shot and do some subtle improvements using AI. The resulting scan seems better than the original particularly on old photos. Sometimes it’s too clever though, it can mistake a single photo for multiple photos and divide those into separate scans… in a pic with multiple windows for instance it can. Think each window is a separate pic and you end up with a scan for each window, and not of the whole original image. A button to disable multi photo detection is needed for these instances, which I’ve encountered multiple times

Making albums

This an excellent programme and I have found it particularly useful when digitalising all my old album photos because you can simply copy a whole page and it will separate the photos and edit them at the same time. The improvement is sometimes really good. I find transferring the photos to word texts a bit tricky but it can be done.

Absolutely adore this app. Used it free for : days ( no card details). I understand you can carry on using it free watching adverts but I was so overjoyed with the quality I paid for the app.

The details it shows enable you to see things that you don’t observe in black and white photos. The colours are true to the original too.

Fantastic software

This is the best photo scanning software I have ever owned and so easy to use. No waiting for scanners and then trying to find images and this has so many great features you can take an old tired worn photo and work wonders. The best feature is being able to colorise black and white pictures. Fabulous try it you won’t want to use any other software. Wish I could give it 10 stars 🌟

Great app 4.5 ⭐️

This app is brilliant for scanning your old photos. It doesn’t always get the crop quite right, but it’s easy enough to do it manually.

I’ve scanned cropped, edited and enhanced quite a few old family albums, including my dad’s military history. These will now go to a museum, and it has been great sharing these images with veterans and family. The colourising tool is the best I’ve tried and the face enhancing tool gets good results 7 out of 10.

I’ve also used the app to scan memorabilia and art works, which have come out great.

The app lacks a bit of flow when touching up and editing, hence the half star, but I have to say it’s well worth the money.

biggest glow down in history

this was BY FAR my favourite app for scanning in film photos and saving the ones i loved and organising them online but NOW i cannot do ANYTHING without the stupid pop up telling me i need premium. i cannot even see my old albums that i scanned in the good old pre paywall days. it used to say upgrade or ‘ads are fine’ and i was so fine with ads. okay fine if you dont want to let me continue using the app but at least let me have MY OLD PHOTOS. and i understand premium features and a paywall but for me now there is NO feature for free. i dont want a sub. i dont want 3 days free. i just want to see my pictures again.

amazing app and great developers

OK i ain’t very good with technology but this app is simple and amazing as are the developers.

I am slowly transferring all my old photo albums to this app as i do not have the space to store them any more. The images are all before the advent of electronic cameras and mobile phones and this app not only easily captivates them but also “cleans up “ and “ sharpens “ the images which in sone cases have faded with age. It also colourise them and we can retain the original

The developers are also great and professional. i recently extended my purchase of the app for a further year but do to circumstances could not use the app for several weeks. When i did open the app i found that my pictures had not uploaded etc. I immediately communicated with the developers (by email) and within a few days they had corrected the matter and all my pictures were available.

Easier than my scanning on a flatbed

Strange app to until you get used to it but really delighted with results from prints, trannys, colour and b&w negs.

The colouring is ok but sometimes gives strange results but makes some pics more interesting. Not exactly easy to get results to my Mac but really due to lack of instructions.

Would benefit with the addition of facility to adjust brightness/contrast/ and colour but great app if like us you have loads of old photos never seen because they are “under the stairs!”

Needs work

There’s a lot of AI colouring apps out there and although this is pretty good it needs improvement. Skin tones are uneven and quite often there’s a lot of yellowing without any real change of shade in the original picture, this is something that other apps I’ve seen don’t appear to do.

In common with other similar apps clothes always tend to be coloured blue.

Annoying when you know that they are not. Perhaps an option to set certain areas to a known colour would help in this respect.

Hopefully the developer will improve the app.

I bought an upgrade but won’t be renewing unless there are some significant improvements.

I suspect that most of these apps use a third party AI engine and I’m sure the technology will improve as it does provide a nice effect if you like to colour the black and white pictures you have.

Memory keeper

Over the last few years I’ve been slowly scanning in all the photos from boxes in our loft and now I’m working my way through the thousands in my mum’s house. Most of her photos haven’t been looked at in decades and this way I can share them with my family and have easy access to them at any time. Photomyne makes a tedious task quick and easy and brings old faded photographs back to life. Can’t recommend highly enough.

Great app

I’ve now used this for a few years, and really like it. I am working through our photos both digital and physical. I’m choosing just the best photos from each year and compiling a safe on-line archive Incase anything happens to our photos. A friend of mine had a house fire and lost all theirs - this was the most traumatic part of the whole experience because everything else could be replaced.

Excellent at capturing slides & photos in high quality

I love using this app. As a retired professional photographer I have thousands of high quality colour film slides, which equate in quality to a 100 Megapixel digital photo This app captures the detail effortlessly and stores them in a very logical way. It also captures printed photos. I have a lot of antique historical photographic prints taken over 150 years ago. This app not only captures them better than a DSLR, but also has the facility to turn them from black and white into realistic colour photos.

Too expensive and unfair

I took a 4 photos of old baby pictures and it was amazing worked really well however was still some light on it. I then downloaded them to my camera roll and thought it was amazing. I then went to take some more and again worked really well but as I went to save them it said I have reached my limit even though it was only 4 and told me that to get more I need to pay which is like £30 a year. I tried ss them but it didn’t let and added a watermark so I can no longer even look at them on the app without a watermark all over it. Not happy.

I have been using Photomyne for some years now and recently found some photos to add to my collection. Photomyne was always good but the ease of use and quality of image has improved so much. It is brilliant. Makes me feel like starting all over again with my collection. Thank you Photomyne for making digitalising photographs so easy and successful.

OK … well, sort of !

I already have a photo enhancing app which is pretty good, and free, but I’m always open to suggestion so gave this one a try. Hmm, more by luck than judgement I managed to enhance an image, the process seemed convoluted and unnecessarily complicated and the result looked to be more akin to a cartoonified representation than a digitally enhanced rendering. Don’t get me wrong, if I hadn’t already got a really good app which I’d rate as better then I’d probably have been more impressed than I was. Apart from all that, the constant drop downs from the get go trying to get you to sign up to the ‘ better’ package were annoying and difficult to ignore. Verdict: Goodish but not better, and for that reason …. ‘Deleted’ !

Brilliant, but…….

This is a very clever app and well worth the money (most I’ve ever spent on an app). The only disappointment is that the new 3D feature just doesn’t work at all. Every photo I have tried it on has come up with an error ‘something has gone wrong, please try again later’. Is this a glitch and is being fixed?

Amazing app - keeps getting better!

A very useful app for those of us who grew up with old paper based photos and have older relatives who have even older photos! The propensity of mobile smartphones now especially amazing quality ones like the latest Apple iPhones (version 13 released just last week) really makes it easier to copy and record older photos including the handwritten notes on them. Colourising black and white photos is also a useful feature and does it all through some sort of AI processing which is, yes, not perfect but is still pretty good. I haven’t tried the text recognition feature yet either but it apparently also does handwritten text! We shall see… well worth trying though.

Brilliant solution to old problem of what to do with old photos

Easy to start the family archives and assembly from boxes of old photos. Ability to digitise 4 at once is a time saver. Well worth the long term subscription. Results and especially colourising excellent. Highly recommended and it seems you get what you pay for as always.

great app but top menu placement is bad!

Love this app, but the menu icon on the left and the profile icon on the right are useless on iOS, you cannot use them because they're right in the top corners and iOS already has pull-down navigation installed for the iPhone's own function so no gestures are recognised, you cannot use the back arrow to I have to exit the app and go back in again, please fix, lower the menu, back arrow and profile icons, they are as far into the top corners as they can possibly be but don't need to be.

It’s a time saver

Been only a day and still finding my away around the functions.

Works great so far love all the functionality. Love the colouring software. Love the one-of payment. God only knows who else can see what I scan but that’s not a concern for me. If you could put a price on your time this app will save you loads of it. It’s automated pic adjusting and cropping is a godsend. You’ll perfectly digitise every photo in your attic in the length of time it takes to watch a movie. I’ve just digitised all my childhood diaries in an hour.

Great App

I was recommended this app from a work colleague. I have found some old photo of my Mimas a teenager and wanted to have them on my phone. The app takes away the graininess of the old photos and the colourise opinion is great! It doesn’t always work prefect but it’s great to see some of the black and white photo in colour. The app is easy to use. Would highly recommend

It’s ok - Hard to get good quality

At times I’ve found I get better quality just by taking a normal photo with my phone camera and manually cropping it than I do using the app. When the app ‘fixes’ the photo, it seems to take the warmth out of them and reduces some of the quality.

I think I would rather use a proper scanning machine than this app to digitise my photos. It is also very hard to get a decent photo without reflections, I’ve tried all sort of light set ups (none of us have ideal conditions for this, I would guess).

Having said all that for quick scanning and sharing its a good app - just not good enough to rely on as the sole source of digital copies, in my opinion, and not worth the subscription fee that’s being charged. I paid for one month to give it a go and am glad I didn’t pay the cost for a whole year.

I saw the ad online somewhere (I think on TikTok), downloaded it and thought I’d try it on my grandmothers photo of her mother who passed away when she was young on her mantelpiece (my great grandmother, that I never met). The photo has been with her in every house, and it’s in black and white. So this was the photo I wanted to try it on. I tried it, colourised the photo and it came out fantastically, really brought the photo to life. I’m now planning to print this photo as a Mother’s Day gift for her, and it will likely make her year. For a free app I thought it at least deserved a good review. My only niggle was the ‘smart crop’ thing doesn’t work that well, but that’s easily resolved by just cropping yourself, perhaps it’s because I took the scan while the picture was in an oddly shaped frame. Either way, very happy with the result so thank you for a wonderful app. 👍

Brilliant! Just amazing

To take pictures of pictures and improve them is just brilliant! I love the app and am going to try the other app of scanned pictures. I would say try out the 3 day free trial and you will be hooked! I wish there was another option to pay for the app in one go without monthly or yearly costs. But it’s been enjoyable to see pictures improve before my very eyes. Well done and thanks for making.

Extraordinary!

I’d been trying to find software that could re-create approximate colours in monochrome photos (as seen sometimes on television programs) and discovered that it had actually been a web based free upload for the last few years, however that has now ceased and apparently the application has / is being made open source, for others to develop etc. I was told about Photodyne recently and I thought I should test out the “Colorization” feature.

Frankly to my eyes, it is astonishing. It put huge smiles on my face when I saw some old family pics!

It’s not perfect, probably two thirds of the conversions will need a bit of work, but having said that- at least it WOULD be possible to do that. For example, it made someone’s hair light blue, but that could be quickly fixed in photoshop as it now has colour pixels to work with.

Would recommend.

Not Impressed

Nothing too special with the App at all. You can easily just take a photo with your Phone camera for free and just crop the image yourself. All this App does is automatically crops it and enhances the brightness, that’s literally it. The App also begs for money within one second of launching the App so that your able to “Save your Pictures.” That defeats the whole purpose of the App right? Anyway, I wouldn’t recommend this.

It usually take no less than ten seconds using my camera to crop and enhance my photos manually using my camera roll. The difference is I’m able to save them for free without having to pay to save them. :)

Truely brilliant

A truly brilliant solution to my longtime wish to scan family albums dating from 1905 to my more recent ones. Quick simple clever high quality scanning, restoration and storage. Liked it so much during the free trial period that I wanted to continue to do all my remaining albums and give the developer his financial due, so starting 6 months for £9.99. Well worthwhile. Highly recommended.

Update 2020, so impressed that took up 9 year subscription offer at an excellent price and have scanned over 4000 photos. Only thing is it’s tricky to avoid reflections of the phone and ones head on the photo but mostly possible.

The past organised and remembered

We’ve all got photos lying around in boxes or tins that we’ve relieved from parents or relatives houses after they’ve passed away. The tins and boxes have followed us around in our life and we’ve very occasionally looked or shown glimpses of now past lives and events to our children and grand children. This App is the perfect way to make sure that those people and events are kept for future generations and that details are not forgotten.

The app is easy to use you just need some decent lighting and a steady hand or a way of holding your phone while scanning your photos either in albums or loose straight from the boxes or tins. The results are organised easily and can be shared with other family members.

Brilliant app

I have used Photomyne to preserve and collate a large number of photos, from different branches of our extended family but mostly my own, dating from over 100 years ago to the digital age. These are a family resource and invaluable to family members who are interested in our family history. The fact that I can then edit and label them is hugely valuable.

Good user experience

Great little app with fair pricing — especially compared to other photo storage solutions. It wins over any other smartphone photo scanner app easily and offers a strong user experience.

Colourisation isn’t great and can often create different coloured arms and hands - it’s clearly a few updates away from being perfected.

What I would love to see is the ability for photos in public albums to be commented upon by family members so we can work together to identify who is in the pics — and to say how they make us feel. At the moment I have to upload all my scans to Flickr to make this happen which means I will probably close my Photomyne account down one day. Face recognition would be helpful and multi-user/public comment based annotation would make this app excellent and an ultimate winner.

I would be enjoying the app if I could get answers

I was very impressed with the product when I trialed it! So much so, in view of the number of photos I need to scan and the time consuming transfer to lap top I purchased a years subscription! The time I have wasted today to resolve an issue has negated the

positives! Since buying the upgrade I’m continually told ‘no internet’! I contacted the help line and was given instructions, followed them and got ‘no internet’! Went on line to help desk! Closed!! The quality of the scanned photos is brilliant sadly customer service isn’t!

1,300 photos later

This app was quick in scanning in photos which I liked. I couldn’t access some functions due to an issue but the customer service team sorted this straight away for me. The only downfall was having to go through every photo to make sure they cropped right because even if it was an obvious border, sometimes the app missed it or created numerous random photos from the one photo. Another issue I found was where it made some photos look great, in others, there was clumps of white pixels where it couldn’t enhance the photo correctly so I did have to go through and change the filter back to original. I think £8.99 is a lot of money per month when it cannot guarantee a great snap of all your photos. It just seems like there’s some teething problems with this app which if sorted, would make it great! I couldn’t carry on taking photos in 2s because of the cropping and auto enhancement. I believe you can turn that off but still the cropping is an issue when over half your photos haven’t cropped correctly. I would consider using this app again in future though just due to how quick it processes the photos and I had no issues saving over 1,300 photos.

Great app, BUT...

Really love this app and it scans photos great and really brings the life back to them BUT it’s just not worth the monthly or yearly subscription. You wouldn’t use it enough each month to justify the price. I would suggest a one off app payment. There are other apps out there that do the same job, just as well, and cost A LOT less.

I’d recommend getting all the photos you want to scan ready, use the free trial and scan everything and then delete the app.

Maybe make it a paid app and let people pay the one off price as the subscription it just too much for what’s on offer.

Charged early

I saw today that I was charged £8.99 for this app even though I didn’t renew the subscription, I’m especially confused by this and would like to have a subscription on the basis that this app was downloaded on the 18th and today - the 21st - I was charged, even though it’s a seven day free trial and I hate four days of said trial left.

I wasn’t sure of this until I checked the description of the app which clearly states a 7 day free trial, and while I understand the app states it may charge within 24 hours of the renewal period, I still had a few days until then, therefore I would greatly appreciate a refund as I have cancelled the subscription within the 7 days.

Tired of subscription apps

Wanted to give this a go, being a designer I think it may have been useful. Usually I download an app, try it out for a bit then upgrade for paid version if I use it often. Seems developers have caught on to this and now prefer to use auto renewal subscription methods for users to have full access. This I am not prepared to do. There are plenty of similar apps out there. If we subscribe to 10 apps, which is not unreasonable imagine how much we are actually paying out every month for what is essentially a phone app.

Every phone app That I personally download that requires subscription is deleted immediately. Sorry but it’s a phone not a computer.

Great app

Very easy to use although the menu system on the iPhone is not as intuitive as it could be. I have only been using it for about 24 hours and will update the review when I have road tested it a bit more. The one issue I have at the moment is that to upload photos to OneDrive I only seem to be able to do one at a time and the app does not remember the last folder - this makes transfers very slow. If it was better in this area it would get 5 stars.

Just a warning this is a paid app.

Follow up, the developers are clearly precious about their product and don’t like it when people say the truth about the public experience to the app. They are afraid of loosing revenue. So instead of listening to the customers and enhancing the experience they fight back. I would now give this 0 stars If I could. Reading all the not so favourable reviews I found them quit antagonistic. Don’t deal with them if you can avoid it.

Don’t be fooled by the free price on iTunes. You download then asked to subscribe after a trial. It is only a 7 day trial then money has to be handed over. Deleted app then and there. It’s only when you read the massive blurb about what the app is about does it tell you about the price. Feel this is a little misleading so only download if your serious about paying for this app.

Amazing

Never thought an app like this was possible. Not only does it scan and auto correct photos fantastically but it is easy to use. You can save the photos to your device and share easily too. The only small downside is that it only sorts albums into the order in which they were created or by date/year. You can’t manually rearrange them.

Fantastic app!

Originally got introduced to this app via Facebook. Tried the free version first, and then decided that my old photos deserved the paid version of the app.

It’s been great seeing photos again that I haven’t looked at in years! My kids have enjoyed my new digital versions too.

My aim is to continue using this app so that my wardrobe is finally free of photo albums! Then I intend to start on the ones in the loft!!!

Brilliant app, and I love how it automatically crops and saves multiple photos at a time. This must have saved me so much time!

An super scanning and backup tool

I had been waiting for a long time to find a way to scan over 30 photo albums, each with around 200 photos. Any thought of removing individual photos from the album and scanning them was out of the question. Way too laborious. This app provided the facility to scan all photos on each page in one go, while automatically cropping each photo. I chose the option to download each album using the email option.

After years of wondering how to do this, job done!

Love this app, however . . .

I’m loving this app. It’s perfect and does exactly what it says on the tin. The only problem I’m having is that I’m not able to purchase the subscription through the app.

It keeps saying purchases cannot be made through the app. I’ve gone to the website and they’re not offering the six month subscription and there’s no way I’m paying over fifty pounds to scan my pictures. If someone could help as to how I can access the different subscriptions that would be fantastic.

Easy to use

A really useful app which makes the whole process of digitalising and sharing old photos a complete doddle. Really excellent to be able to add notes, dates etc. Very useful that I can scan a whole page and the app will then divide it up into individual photos. The option to edit the scans by cropping etc is a great tool. My family are enjoying accessing the family website to see what has been scanned so far. Much easier to share photos through the website than emailing, although that’s an option along with various social media platforms. I’m not clear what happens if we stop paying for this service, so we’re making sure the photos are backed up elsewhere, too.

Greedy dev team

I downloaded this app the day it arrived on iOS. Then it was updated and started to charge subscription fees after I had paid the £4:99 to buy it. All the other apps I have bought before they swapped to the yearly costs a fortune subscription ( which is more profitable for them much more expensive and with fewer features for us )all the other apps bought at pro level give you a free and permanent yearly subscription for £0:00 because when u buy a pro app that includes everything we enter a lifelong contract because we buy a pro version which included everything forever. I was told to talk to Support by this company and they refused to do that which is actually a scam because when I previously paid full price the App Store advert for photo mine said unlimited scanning of old photos and photos could be made to look bright shiny and new again. However without warning they decided to change and charge everyone for everything even if you bought everything. Why on earth don’t photomyne support old customers ? If we had not bought your app your business would not exist anymore. Yet they expect us to pay every year or every month for a service we already bought for life. This is fraudulent and a scam. See LoopyLou review as well. I have a huge following on Instagram Facebook and Twitter and oggl and Flickr so does Lou yet they dump on old users. Not a reputable company at all. And they now change the apps name ? Why ? Why disrespect your oldest users?

Loving it but....

This is a fantastic app and the quality of photos are fantastic!! I’ve been adding loads of the old family photos! I would however, like to add tags on people when it’s a large picture with many people. So when you touch the photo the names appear by the person rather than just at the bottom of the page. Also, i would like to move photos around from one folder to another!

Simply brilliant!

This App is an absolute gem! Have literally thousands of my parents’ photos to scan quickly and it’s just amazing. So easy to use and whilst I’m rushing through them so the quality on some may not be quite as good it’s a super way to ensure you preserve photos for future generations. I’ve found it particularly useful when photos are in those 1980s/1990s self stick plastic coated albums where with care you can get a reasonable copy without removing the photos. Pure genius!

Quality Photo Recording

Early days using this App but I do like it and the concept. You can't rush the process of photographing photos and need a steady hand but I have found by taking my time I get better, clearer & sharper results than with just using my phone camera. The added benefit of having a family website to share your photo albums is a wonderful bonus. The price I think is very reasonable. Thank you Photomyne! I really love it !

The most efficient way to save beloved photos...

This app has been a godsend for me.

We literally have hundreds of photos in dusty albums, however after 2 days I’ve managed to scan over 500 photos! So quick & easy and I love how the photos are automatically enhanced once scanned.

The app also lets you create a website so you can share the albums with friends & family securely.

Just LOVE this app!
