I applied for a mobile account with this service, but encountered a frustrating issue with the address entry during the application process. Unfortunately, there seems to be no way to rectify this mistake or move forward with the application. Despite multiple attempts to reach out via email for assistance, I've received no response from their customer support team for an extended period.
The inability to correct such a basic error and the lack of responsiveness from the company's support team have left me disappointed and inconvenienced. It's disheartening when a seemingly simple issue becomes a roadblock in accessing their services.
I hope the company takes note of these issues and improves their system for handling application errors and enhances their customer support, ensuring a more efficient and responsive experience for users in similar situations in the future.

I would recommend Monzo it is excellent I get paid early with my wages which can be very helpful & was helpful when I was a student as it meant I got much needed student finance early.
I have the metal card which is truly great & includes some good perks like holiday insurance as well as mobile phone insurance.
Whenever I have a query on a transaction they sort it out immediately which is v reassuring.

I have unfortunately been the victim of fraud, and I’d hoped that Monzo would be able to help me recover some of the money because Mastercard offer protection for this sort of thing. However the customer service chat is literally just pasted generic answers that don’t relate to the issue. Really disappointed, Monzo isn’t what it was. The new Home Screen is also very messy.

What a waste of time! I’ve been trying for an hour to get through the business account creation process. All verification codes that were sent to me have been expired already! When I tried to open account using web browser it was the same + information that my phone number was already in use! It didn’t matter to them that it still could be me as I’ve been using the same email address!!!!

I’ve been with Monzo for a good few years now and loved the app and the way they operate initially. However in the past year the changes haven’t been good. As other have said, a focus on premium services was the start, but the worst bit is the changes they’ve made to savings pots, I can’t understand why they’d bring in changes that reduce the functionality. That, combined with ‘my year in Monzo’ had put me right off. I’m currently downloading Starling.

Trust me I’ve been with monzo since they were mondo and I used to be in the camp of how great they were but the service has fallen so far it’s irredeemably bad at this point
If you need to dispute a transaction they will go out of their way to not help you open it and you will have to drag them through the ombudsman service kicking and screaming to get your money back
They always say “not enough evidence”
Save yourself the headache join a REAL BANK not these clowns and you will actually be protected

I am unable to transfer money so app asked me to record a in app video and send it to them. I tried multiple times but upon submission, “there is a problem” error always came. I’m in contact with their chat support from last 1 week and everytime support agent told me one of our specialists team member will get back to you in 24 hrs. It seems they are making jokes to me. What a stupid customer support. After 1 week no specialist team member approached me to resolve my issues. Not recommended at all to open account with them!

The recent design change to move pots to the home screen and separate them from savings accounts is just silly. There are now 2-3 extra user actions required to reach the same point as the old design.
A cheap way to try to increase user engagement time? Maybe.
Apart from that, the app works well. But this update really does make it very difficult to use.

I am a long time Monzo user and have introduced many friends to Monzo over the years. I use it as my main account and make use of all the available features. It’s still a great bank and great app, but I must give it 1 star in the hope that developers read the negative reviews. The new UI update is very poor from a UX perspective, particularly around the joint accounts/sole account switching. It is very confusing and easy to sent money to or from the wrong account. My girlfriend has the same problems and lots of my friends have echoed the same about the new update. Reviews online also regularly mention the UX problems since the update. Please look into the UI for joint accounts since the update. I’m sure it will be fixed as Monzo has historically listened to the community pretty quickly, however I haven’t seen any acknowledgement from them yet of the issues

Impossible to report fraud properly!!!!

I loved Monzo. Until this morning when a transaction to a betting company appeared but was declined. So straight into Manage account to report fraud and get new card. Go through the questionnaire and says pick transaction. But only shows yesterdays transaction. So what I have to wait 24 hours to report a card misused. The card icon has two menus. the Freeze card option is quiet important I couldn’t find it under the three dots. If you’re under stress you’ll head to the three dot menu first. Then panic when you can’t find it.
Finally gave up and reported the card as lost so it would be frozen. So a lot of your fraud statistics are probably incorrect lost cards. And I was charged £5 for a lost card. It wasn’t lost. And why do I have to wait x days for a new card AND a new card number/date. Shouldn’t the card numbers be instant. Now I have to keep checking bills will go out till the physical card turns up. I did try and contact support through your app but just got stuck in the pick fraud transaction cycle. Very disappointed. Signs your growing too fast n getting sloppy.

I have Monzo for 5-6 years (we are in oct 2023). If there is one thing I can say, the customer service is amazing, so easy to access with the webchat. Replacing a card, reporting fraud, adding cash on the account via paypoint, saving money on a different account with interest… It is so easy and functional.
Their customer service is absolutely outstanding, I remember once, my bank card were stolen and used. This situation put me in real difficulties because I couldn’t do anything like taking transport to go to work etc… I remember that a special service of their team contacted me to know if I was ok, if I needed support in any way… the message (letter) they sent me were so compassionate and encouraging. At that time my moral were very bad and I was so anxious about the loss I had and my capacity to move forward. I didn’t ask for more support at that time, but just to receive a message, a human supportive message made me find the strength to move forward until the fraud issue were solved.
Really it is rare in this world to have such a good customer service, with people professional and emotionally there for you. Outstanding
I was amazed, I know that I will not change bank because of this experience.

Online bank without the downsides and great support

In my experience, most online banks are great until you need something slightly unusual, like a check deposit or a bank statement physically mailed to you. Then you might often want a traditional bank.
Monzo seems to actually do both exceptionally well. I was able to deposit checks, which other apps don’t seem to be able to do (eg Revolut). Plus, you can request a physical statement to be sent to you to be used as proof of address. Overall, Monzo has great customer support unlike other apps where you just speak to a robot. For me, the peace of mind that gives me is more important than almost anything. Having tried a few apps, Monzo is my absolute favourite!

I absolutely loved Monzo App, and it really helped me save my goals, I even got friends and family on to it, had no problems at all my credit score was 100%, I enjoyed using the app, until I had to call there customer service support team, which was absolutely a nightmare they were appalling at their customer service no human interaction at all, was left on text messages days and days felt like closing my account and telling them to do one, if it wasn’t for the fact that the app itself is helpful and helping me manage my money, I would’ve closed the account long time. The only let down is their customer service. Otherwise, I was a big fan of Monzo.

I have use Monzo for a couple of years, and never really had a problem with it, until today. My problem is pretty well known, just look up Monzo freezing and closing accounts.
They have frozen my account after I tried to buy PC parts on eBay. I still have £850 in the account which I cannot access or spend/transfer.
I just got my wages and need to buy food and pay electric and rent, which I cannot do now. They froze it when I was about 100 miles away from home, so I had no access to money for petrol, or even a train to get myself home, so I am currently writing this whilst walking 100 miles home.
I have uploaded proof of what I was purchasing to the live chat and emailed about it, but so far they have done nothing.
There is many cases like mine being reported almost daily onto the Facebook group appropriately named “STAY AWAY FROM MONZO BANK” and there is even some in reputable newspapers’ websites.
They have also caused me to miss work, because without a car I cannot do my job as a community and young person support worker, this is as far as I’m aware a very unfortunate mistake on their end, but that is not very consoling to me as I’m walking home trying to figure out what I’m going to eat when I get back in the very many hours I have left of this walk.
So, in my opinion, go with any different bank, surely no other bank would put you in a situation even remotely close to the one I’m in.

I loved Monzo when it was new and pushing the boundaries. I moved my accounts over fully and didn’t look back. Lately (past couple of years) though things have not been so shiny. Categories don’t get remembered. Eg I pay wages from my business account and it never remembers they are wages category. Oh. And despite scheduling my wages payment from Monzo to Monzo I never get paid a day early. So. I have not be on Monzo to benefit from this? Huh. It used to I can’t see how much is due to go out tomorrow. It totals each day’s spending but not the known immediate future spending. And now the new Home Screen. Forced on an audience that didn’t ask for it. Why blend all activity? If we wanted that we wouldn’t have split it out into separate accounts and pots. Plus the app regularly has a problem and needs to be quit and reopened to load the latest data. I think I will look around. Other banks are making handsome cash offers to move. The new look finally made me actually emotional enough to hate the experience.

Been with them for about 4 years, and i used to think that they were great, then one day, without any notice they closed my account and before i could even notice my money in it were even less...try to get in touch multiple time was just frustrating, the operator was keep saying that they were not allowed to say nothing apart for basic info...like the fact that my money were about half i was remember and that i would have received an email with a statement that never arrived, about Flex, instead they sent the email with what i am supposed to own them just the day after...unbelievable those didn't seem right to, but cannot saying anything as they denied the access to the app so you have no ways to check anything...just now i discovered that they did to many others and keep doing it like nothing is happening, not caring if is your only bank account, if u are abroad or if you are in a emergency situation....that was the most unreliable bank i ever been with, my advice....stay away!

I love using Monzo, but one problem I always seem to have when I’m away is that it’s very difficult to transfer money when I’m off-line. If there is any way that Monzo could have a look at this particular issue it would be fantastic both I’m sure for me and for many other people? Otherwise it’s an amazing piece of kit. You always advise us when money has been taken from your account which could be extremely useful if somebody got hold of your card unlawfully? Using a Monzo card whilst you’re away from home is extremely useful, and it is also much cheaper than other types of cards. So congratulations to you guys at Monzo for all your hard work it really is appreciated.

My card had become reviewed after I’d sold items for my business and received payment- I was confused but wasn’t upset over this fact and was expecting it to be sorted in about a week, however it’s far exceeded that and i’ve been waiting with little to no progress so far and have just been told that i might have to wait 15 days to 8 weeks. If i had other cards i would still be frustrated but as a 17 year old with no real need of having multiple cards you can understand my anger of this, quite literally refraining myself from speaking truthfully as well. The reviewal of my account can be understood but the unnecessary lengths of time they’ve taken is displeasing. The downside of monzo online banking is definitely the lack of effort the customer ‘support’ team provide. If you are someone that resells goods LEGALLY to gain profit, I highly recommend not using this bank as they have terrible service in helping customers and provide patronising advice.

This bank have changed the great ways they used to support customers. I have I’ll be moving to a newer better version of Monzo. The customer service function has become predictable responses, poor service and quite frankly just a crap experience. Any kind of fraud you experienced you will not be refunded for. No more personal touches and safe havens within your bank. I waited over 3 months after experiencing fraud on Binance and they hit back with it’s not their responsibility to contact Binance, who say it isn’t their responsibility. I guess it’s mine. So lesson learnt about all these platforms that we think we need and they just take from us consumers. We can see where the world is going and we should forget about reliable trustworthy banks with excellent service. Those days have DIED! Thanks Monzo. I mean I have had the account since launch and I’m happy to close it now. Kroo seem to have copied the model and improved their services over Monzo.

I have tried most banks over the years along with their apps. The monzo banking app is without doubt the very best and won’t be beaten IMO. What let’s them down is the packaged bank account offering. Monzo plus is ok but premium is a complete waste of money. Credit card offering, share dealing services would really rev things up and offer customers useful services. Packaged bank accounts won’t work . Come on monzo give us some exciting services within the app please.
Monzo had a blog a few years back about share dealing service. This would be fantastic but it seems to have wilted away . Are we going to get sharedealing monzo?

I’ve been banking with Monzo for over a year now and the only doubts I have are that I didn’t do it sooner.
I’ve learned so much about my financial habits, where to save and how, using pots spread throughout my own bank account allowing me to control my money and see exactly what is happening in real time.
The savings rate is far better and more stable than other banks, you have answers to every question possible within the banking app and you can even receive confirmed BACS payments to your account early!
So transparent and easy to use, finally my money works for me, instead of me working for my money 💴 👍🏼😊

At first Monzo was really good and adhd friendly due to the pots and colours. They have a generally friendly tone in customer service. However. They have started to remove customers who do not make a lot of money. I earn just enough and despite being a loyal customer and Monzo plus member (paying them £5 a month for m more colours and making my own categories for expenditures) they have refused me for a business account many times, without any explanation. I am a start up business trying to get everything sorted out - I am 25 years old and still figuring things out. Without any explanation due to, they closed my account with two months notice. Upon researching I found that they get rid of customers who are not bringing in a large salary every year. I am a student and trying to rub my own business. I have struggled with my credit score at points in time and I believe this may be another factor. I’m wondering why this happened, was it the fact that I am paying my parents rent from my account and they do not like to see a lot of money transfers? Paying for my brothers clubs? Or that I have a shaky credit score? Either way. This bank has shown no loyalty to its customers.

It’s not often I bother to write a review when something works as you would hope, I tend to only write reviews when complaining about something, but Monzo deserves a bit of my time for a 5 star review because they have done such an amazing job with their app.
Everything is self-explanatory easy to use the features are great with virtual cards, organised scheduled payments, and reviewing transaction history is so neat and tidy, if i want to see all payments I have made to a company i can, if i want to see my spending habits i can, when ever i think oh it would be nice to see X… or do something I can’t in other banking apps I just look around the app a bit and tada Monzo lets me do it…
Love this app, my only wish is that there was a Desktop browser version as I am getting a bit old and can’t see a mobile screen very well any more, a side from that, AMAZING!

There’s a lot I love about Monzo. However, there is a serious bug in the app which meant I was physically unable to make a payment to my Flex account, ultimately resulting in a high interest charge. Every time I tried to make the payment, I received an error message saying something had gone wrong and to try again later. This never went away.
I have spent weeks trying to get help with the issue and have found their customer service team very friendly but extremely slow and unhelpful. It now feels like they are actively choosing not to resolve the issue, and it has led me to decide to stop using the Flex service. It’s useful being able to use interest-free lending, but not an app bug forces interest charges where they are not needed or wanted.
I really hope they solve this problem but, for now, I would recommend not using Monzo Flex.

Once challenger, now turning into an old style bank!

Monzo used to the challenger bank, they offered quick easy access to your money, through a great app, then they wanted more money, the accountants started running the business so it went from plucky start up to a stuffy old bank behind it’s cool, snazzy app and marketing.
This has been reflected in their app, which has steadily become more clunky and more difficult to use, some charges crept in, overdrafts were sneakily introduced and forget offering a phone number to contact customer service.
Now new rivals have popped up, the older stuffier banks caught up and now Monzo are very has been, it’s the one that’s grabbing for customers (they’re even running TV adverts - I remember when everyone talked about them)
It’s sad to see such a great brand fail and decline, I dropped them recently when better options and service were available, and I’m not seeing those bright orange cards as much.
That’s the problem when accountants and leadership start staring at balance sheets and bar graphs, THEY don’t bring in profit, they lose customers, if I were you go else where to a bank that actually GETS it’s customers not one that only UNDERSTANDS it’s balance sheets.

I’ve been a Monzo customer quite happily for a good few years, when a current account was offered I slowly migrated all my finances to the app, salary, direct debits, mortgage outgoings and every day spending. I paid for the plus service and used their flex offering, then last week out of the blue, I get an email we are closing your account, I thought a mistake surely, someone has clicked a wrong button, or Monzo have been hacked or something. Anyway instantly my card was cancelled, my money was frozen , my direct debits weren’t getting paid, my mobile was blocked from getting through to customer support and I was getting canned messages from the chat operatives. Top it off I would have to supply a new bank account reference and wait 2-4 weeks to get my money back. They wont tell you why, but apparently they can behave in this way because it’s in their terms and conditions. Please look elsewhere, there are similar stories of mine online about this company.

Omg where do I start? I have been with Monzo since 2019 and honestly it has been a life saver! I am now oN Monzo premium BECAUSE IT IS WORTH IT!Not only can I organise my funds appropriately with Monzo, but there are many other perks- like I literally don’t need a credit card thanks to Monzo flex, I get to still build my credit in a more controlled way! They give you options to take loans and if you have any financial issues along the way, they are always there to help! Anytime some companies try to scam me, Monzo helps with the dispute and refunds me ! Literally any advisor I have had a chat with on the app is super helpful, patient and understanding! Pin detection issue

Must say i've been a big fan of Monzo even before it became an official bank and have raved about it to everyone. Lately it's been very buggy with pin detection for authorising payments. Many times it asks me to enter the same pin 3 times until it accepts it. I've opened an official complain as the official "check if you remember your pin" doesn't cut it for me. Ideally as an app user for a digital first bank i'd like a way to easily flag buggy behaviour on the app instead of going through 2 people with open support tickets asking me if i forgot my pin and asking me 3 times to give my passport details. I don't think one needs to verify my identity to look i to possible app bugs. I wasn't asking for my pin to be revealed but a way to easily flag your app isn't working as expected

Love Monzo, great app functionality and customer service. Could even look past the annoyance of having to POST cheques rather than being able to take photos (functionality that banks such as HSBC offer).
However, the reason myself and my husband have had to leave Monzo, is the bizarreness of trying to open a joint account together. Tried many many times. It looks like the app is glitching out and the button just not working, but when you contact the web chat, it turns out this means it won’t let you. And the worst part - they can’t tell you the reason why.
Starling has let us open a joint account immediately so clearly there were no issues with credit scores, financial history etc.
Have seen posts online from people having had similar struggles.

This app used to be fantastic. It replaced my high street bank accounts because the app was so much better! But now the app runs absolutely terribly on an iPhone X. It’s so incredibly laggy, borderline unusable. And because there’s no ipad or decent web alternative (the website is just a balance viewer, to put it nicely). I’m stuck with it on my phone. All this being said, pots are great, and I subscribe to Monzo plus for the custom categories for trends. I just wish we could have better metrics for trends, like individual spending limits on categories in trends (we had this when “summary” was the priority, before trends were introduced!).
There seems to be a habit of introducing features and worrying about performance later, “target” is another example of this. Why was this feature pushed before you could filter which pots are viewed, without changing the target spending amount? The whole thing feels rushed to development, and creates a worse user experience in the end. I hope in future the Monzo team stops rushing to add more and more features to the app, and focuses on making sure the performance for the stuff they have is actually decent!
I leave a harsh review because I used to love this app, and it’s treated me better than Santander, NatWest, TSB, and starling (other bank apps I’ve tried in the past).

4 weekly option and weekly spending

It’s great! Maybe possibly add a weekly spending tab? So the targets are a great idea for saving money for the month but maybe add a Yeager tab so you can hit targets for the week? Like a weekly spending planner or something? Also on the spending tab could you have an option for the month to be 4 weekly? So I get paid every 4 weeks and it’s not in sync with my wage going into my back so I keep having to change the refresh date so it’s not tracking my spending as much as I’d like it too I’m sure other people have the same issue! Apart from that I love you me bank and the app is fantastic

I signed up thinking I could use Monzo as a place I could put my money aside and save. I am usually with Natwest but they always have problems, the sites laggy, the customer service isn’t great… So I signed up thinking “okay maybe ill keep my money here and see how this goes” and let me tell you, IT IS BRILLIANT !
I created multiple ‘pots’ which are essentially little saving accounts to keep money aside. I created rent and bills pots etc. It is great!
They also have Monzo flex which is no monthly charge for the tool. It helps you spend money more flexibly. I spent £40 on vinted and decided to click “flex this” which put the £40 back into my account and then I chose to split the payments over 6 months. The first two payments you use with monzo flex are no interest so its a win win!
The app is great, the bank is great and I definitely would consider to anyone who wants an app that is flexible with money, allows you to have a short term loan, allows you to create pots of savings, and even an overdraft!

I’ve been with Monzo for several years, I’ve found the app reliable and it has helped me to manage money and save.
HOWEVER… I recently have had my card stolen and several charges made to it without my consent. I had the card blocked within a few hours(as soon as I saw the purchases), which was very useful. But I’ve been on with their support team for five days… I’ve spoken to 11 different people, they are asking me questions, but either not reading my messages or severely misunderstanding them. If you aren’t sure what I’m saying you can ask for clarification rather than just saying they can’t deal with the issue for reasons that don’t exist. According to them, I’ve had my phone stolen (I have not and never said I had ) and they can’t help as I still have my card ( I initially beloved it to be in my possession, and was in a hurry to block the card)
I have since repeatedly said that I do not have it, but they have ignored this and said that cannot refund me as I have my card.
This bank is fine for the day to day, but I am very frustrated and upset in regards to how they deal with problems…
I feel as though I’m just being thrown from person to person in the hopes I’ll give up.
My money is missing, I’m an unemployed student with rent to pay. I lost my money, you lose a customer

I don’t typically write reviews but I really want this app to become my number one source of managing my personal finances.
I like the Monzo plus feature however I feel like you missed out one key feature which is the budgeting functionality. I like that I can create categories when I manage my finances, however, will love to have an app where I can access all my financial accounts, see my categories and set my own budgets.
The app is so seamless to use and very user friendly, if only you guys can bring in the budgeting feature where I can track my current spending in each category and then compare it to my budgeting target I’ll honestly even pay £10 a month for this.

Been with this bank now for over two months and although the app is fantastic the backup from customer service lets this bank down badly. Chat response is not live, your message gets put in a pool then (eventually) answered by random agents, with generic response’s. When once you reply, your message seems to be placed back in the pool and someone else picks up the message, then you have to start the conversation all over again? Im having issues with my steel card, it’s too thick to use in some ATMs. (Partners card ok in same ATM) As a premium account holder, you can order or replace a card twice in a year, after much messaging with various agents although it’s the card at fault was offered a plastic card not steel instead? You would think I was asking for a 18c gold card replacement, come on guys! As well as these instances I’ve had various issues and again I’m met with genetic responses from agents who just don’t read the message I send them, if you’re looking for a service that meets the function of the app be warned!

I hate hate hate the customer Comms in Monzo. Why can’t you have an inbox with messages like Starling? It is completely unhelpful to have to wait in a chat or deal with chats about multiple issues that overlap. I can’t keep track of communications at all and now realise that over the years I have basically not realised that things like disputes haven’t actually been sorted. I have enough mental load without having to scroll back through loads of automated messages in a crappy chat system. Studies have shown time and time again that chat systems are preferred by men and alienate women… I just don’t have time to scroll forever to find a reply to pick up on something that wasn’t done two months ago when I asked it’s not ok. I have tried communicating via email instead but your crummy customer services refuse. I’m not sure why given that my login link for Monzo is emailed to this very same email address…. Can you sort this out please?

My monzo card was stolen and automatically I froze the account, but the person still managed to spend the week using it on transport london Even with the card blocked and frozed, some of the amounts were refunded by monzo, but after my new card arrived somehow I was charged for an amount that I I didn't use it, I showed photos, send evidence but even so the team insisted that there was no way that would be a third person who used the final thief in the story I had to pay the amount charged and after more than ten days trying to communicate with the team...,changing password, asking for a new card, redoing it a new PIN, I felt like a clown at the end of the situation had to pay the amount. bad company, bad service, bad consideration for the customer, bad to solve any problem for the customer!!

Such a helpful banking app, I switched to this from my main bank over 2 years ago and haven’t looked back since. Helped with saving money, sharing costs, easy joint account access. It’s super straightforward to do anything and the only times I’ve had minor issues with things like odd transactions etc, the support is quick, easy and helpful. I even managed to stop and track down a thief who stole my card out of my back pocket once due to alerts on the app and froze my account before I was rinsed. The bank support were so good they even arrange a refund of what was stolen with a day. Very impressed and highly recommend 👍

As great as the bank is I mean the app.. it’s features the ease of use, simplicity, all of the above one thing concerns me is that should I lose my phone I’ve lost all the connection to my money. If I play out the scenario I lose my phone, I’ve lost my sim… I talk to my sim provider they will send me a new sim… fine depends on post arriving on time. I could therefore be without my money for 5-7 days. This is the reality of the situation. If Monzo had a working online presence in order to transfer funds to a spouses account that would give people more peace of mind. I did have this bank as my main account but when my phone starting to play up I thought long and hard. This is a suggestion thatMonzo should really think about and it will revolutionise your ability for people to have access to their money…. Allow people to enter an emergency account and give them a special automated line and a special password which automatically transfers a set amount to that connected account.. if you do this I’ll use you as my main account!

I’ve had monzo for >5 years now and love the app, am pretty sure it inspired this whole generation of banking apps including Starling. I can’t say I’ve had any problems with it - but Unfortunately it wouldn’t let me set up a joint account with my s/o and it wouldn’t explain why. With starling we set up a joint account immediately and otherwise it does the same job monzo does. Some people would be happy with two apps but I like everything in one place so sorry to say goodbye to Monzo ! They don’t specify what they’re requirements are for joint accounts so you may have success where we didn’t. Otherwise quality app and no problems with service. Just know the competition offers all the same main benefits.

Regretting my account switch away from Monzo

I moved away from Monzo for an incentivised current account switch and believing this bank didn’t offer too much above what any bank does (and the fact that I couldn’t go into a physical branch to cash a cheque in from my Nan once a year), I moved.. to Virgin Money. I was filled with regret a month on but I wanted my £150 virgin experience voucher and now I’ve got to stick it out a little longer whilst I remortgage too.
Things I miss about Monzo:
- Pots (yes most places offer them now but virgin doesn’t)
- VISIBILITY! Up to 4 days in advance I know what’s coming out my account!!
- Being able to get paid the day before!
- How intuative the app is!
- How well thought out the UI is (I’m not going to get started on the other app)
- seeing my PIN in the app - I waited 3 weeks to get my PIN in the post from VM after I forgot it
- Everything - I’m coming back ASAP.
Things I don’t miss:
- I wanted a 2nd account to really keep my money separated, not just by pots
- posting a cheque from my Nan at Christmas (she sent cash last year too, typical).

Been with Monzo a month now and already been in embarrassing situations where the app doesn’t work or my card when shopping , I had to have all my Christmas food shopping put back by the shop I have shopped in for years , it was humiliating. I could get cash out . I ended up transferring money to another account I have with another bank and going back to the shop all over again being watched by staff. I feel I can’t go in the shop again . I suffer with panic attacks and this made me worse.
I am scared to use my card again😡
I contacted Monzo they said it’s the shops fault , but my other card worked🤷🏻‍♀️
I am one considering just keeping Monzo for my DD as can’t go through changing them all again and using my other bank more at least they have a branch I can travel in an emergency.

I have always used the traditional banks Nat West and nationwide… I decided to give Monzo a go as I had seen an advertisement for it .. I set everything up and for the first few weeks it was great ,, transactions are very easy and the app is great .. I started to use this account as my main account so and had a balance of around £3000 ,,,,,,, this is where it all went wrong ,, I received a message saying they had decided to close my account ,,, no explanation, can’t speak to anyone as they don’t have a facility to actually speak to a person .. I did eventually get a response from customer service by email who just told me that they can’t give me an explanation but my account has been closed and I will receive my money in 2-4 weeks .. I have been in constant contact with them requesting updates but just get the exact same answer .. it’s been over 4 week now and still haven’t received my money .. I will be taking this matter to the financial ombudsman but it doesn’t solve my problem now xmas is next week and Monzo have all my money

I cannot recommend this app, nor Monzo itself. I tried to create an account, which you can only do through the app, and I was never able to complete the account setup. They sent a card but not to my address. It was sent to an address that doesn’t seem to exist. I have spent months trying to correct this error. After the card never arrived a few weeks I reached out, as I have numerous times since, to their support team to correct the address. They cannot change the address without going through the app to verify my identity, but I cannot since I cannot log in successfully as I need the card to do so. I attempted to close the account, but again, they want me to verify my identity through the app. The account is stuck and appears still active. So I cannot close it or request a new card sent to my correct address. They have no other way to fix the account. Now I’ve discovered that it’s showing up on my credit report, with an incorrect address, and I have no way to change it.

After several years with Monzo it makes me wonder why so many of the other banks are so bad? Monzo is simple, it does what it needs and is very intuitive to use (and is actually quiet nice to look at).
The thing that really sealed the seal for me was that when I was a victim of some minor fraud (someone else ordering takeaways on my card somehow) Monzo enabled me to freeze my card (and un-freeze it for a few minutes to buy my lunch while at work), then use the chat to talk to an actual person (a rare experience these days) who refunded me my lost money! And got a card sent out to me in a day or so!
The only things I can think of to improve Monzo would be if you could rename the categories in the spend tracking options?
In short Monzo sets the standard for modern banking, why would you settle for anything less?

I originally saw people paying with Monzo when I used to work in retail. I’ve been with Monzo for over 2 years now. They are by far the best Bank I have had dealings with, you can see the time and effort that goes into this online bank and I am 100% sure others like me really appreciate how simple and easy going this bank is.
The reason why I’m writing this review is because they recently temporarily blocked my account for unusual activities, which can be distressing to see however I have done the same sort of transactions with my other bank accounts and not one of them flagged that as suspicious. Which weirdly enough doesn’t give me much confidence in holding my funds in those other accounts. The whole process of Monzo blocking my account didn’t really scare me or cause me much distress as they directed me towards a blog which gave me all the information on what I need to know and it gave me a peace of mind. Before I knew it they updated me through the app, telling me they have completed their checks and I can proceed to use my account again.

This is where Monzo peaks unfortunately. From the very messy, faulty, unsupported on boarding process to trying to get ANY answer out of them that didn’t require passing on to 2, 3 or 4 other staff before an answer is given, to the appalling manner in which the organisation conducts its customer care (or lack of). I had nothing but nightmares when I did t recognise a transaction, my card was stopped then started then stopped, I was given incorrect information a number of times and at every turn I was copy/pasted terms and conditions rather than treated like a respected and valued customer. I was unsupported when I was ripped off by an eBay seller, unsupported when I didn’t recognise transactions on my account and the whole concept of card payment protection seemed to befuddle staff. And even the offboarding process was met with discontent and ignorance, and blaming everyone else in the process…after it had been passed to 4 or 5 different staff, of course! I’ve moved to Starling now and I won’t return to or recommend Monzo.

Closing my account for no reason

So, before I give out the reason why I’ve gave it 2 stars, I would first like to say this bank was really good and helped me out with day to day life. However, not just only me but a lot of other people accounts are being closed down without an explanation which is weird. I find it really disrespectful because of the simple fact that there’s other out here that use this bank as a main account because it’s more easier for them, another thing is that people have a life and they might have children and or they’re working and you guys are closing peoples account. AND on top of that I’ve heard from friends that used this bank and there is so many other issues about your app and the customer services were rubbish. So PLEASE sort everything out before my account (which is 18th April) is close down and anyone else that account is about to close down. And if anyone’s account been closed already they got every right to reopen their account or get an email to confirm their account is reopen and give them a refund if they have any outstanding money from you guys.

Monzo pretend to care until things go wrong. Then you can expect the worst treatment of any bank I’ve ever been with. They are a disgrace. Monzo let TWENTY FIVE transactions go through consisting of THOUSANDS of pounds and not only didn’t block but didn’t even alert me! What an absolute failure and a disgrace for a bank that is supposed is supposed to keep money safe. Where amounts were in singapore currency to a company registered in Malta. Monzo even gave this fraudster a real logo! Like seriously! How bad can you get. They let multiple transactions to the same account each day.
They never alerted me and when I contacted them in horror they denied any responsibility, said they would not refund the £4269 they let get taken out of my account and “sorry if you’re unhappy with the outcome” and “let me know if you are happy to accept this as a resolution”. I am so disgusted and shocked. Absolutely appalling. If you want your money safe AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE.

I’ve loved Monzo and have been using it as my main bank account since my Beta account became a current account for it’s amazing instant transactions, ease of use with friends, customer support chat, and great international rates while feeling like quite a real bank. However, as time goes on I have seen Monzo evolve to include ridiculous offers of the premium service which really doesn’t feel like you’re getting anything good for the money with incredibly low interest offering, features that you can get for free elsewhere, and ‘exclusive deals’ that feel like Monzo were paid to include and are definitely far from exclusive to Monzo premium. With premium it also makes the general current account feel very cheap as the app constantly reminding you to go premium, especially with the year in Monzo review. It is very off putting. On top of this, Monzo bringing in limited free card replacements (or none and limited cash withdrawals of you don’t meet a certain criteria) makes Monzo a bank I really no longer can recommend (after convincing 15-20 people to join). This is the only notable bank I know which charge for card replacements, and charges for cash deposits. Now I can only recommend, and am even considering switching to either Starling Bank, which hasn’t got any of these issues mentioned, or to just opt for a high street bank which I would have never thought to recommend.

I’ve been a “full Monzo” customer (meaning I use it as my primary account) for over two years! In that time it has completely revolutionised how I bank. My salary comes straight into Monzo and I can get it a day early (or three if it’s due on a Monday). Instant credit and spending notifications coupled with a brilliant app and a distinctive card puts many banks with outdated technology and attitudes to Shame.
Yes there have been issues (always quickly sorted) and it won’t be right for everyone especially if you like popping into a branch for a chinwag. But if you want no nonsense crap free and safe banking then give Monzo a try.
I did and haven’t ever regretted my decision and will stay as long as they’ll have me. 👍

After reading a lot of reviews on the bank, I had high hopes. Unfortunately I found that there were a lot of things that frustrated me about this bank which ranged from making cash withdrawals/ putting cash in (there is a limit which isn't the case for any other bank) to paying cheques in (it takes over 2 weeks to process plus they ask you a load of silly questions - Lloyds for example, are able to take a picture from your phone and it’s processed in two days so you don’t even need to leave the house). But the thing I found most frustrating is the support element- you end up waiting ages for a response to your question and are passed around the team. If you call up they can only do so much and are redirected back to the app to wait for a response - so frustrating as it doesn’t feel like anything gets resolved quickly. So overall, I’m really disappointed with this bank and have moved back to a high street bank.

Robotic and Unethical

Monzo decided to put my account in to an 82pence “unarranged overdraft” by randomly changing the terms of my account, which hadn’t been used for a few months, then inform me by texting my old number. So that by the time I found out about it they had decided to report me to credit agencies for being in “arrears.” With their nicely added interest the overdraft amount came to less than £2 but they still felt it appropriate to report me and damage my current house purchase process. I only found out because they eventually sent an email.
When I complained and asked for their help putting it right they sent a formulaic response and offered no real explanation. No attempt to tell the agencies it was an error. Just fobbed me off and said they had fulfilled their legal obligations.
When a bank starts randomly changing terms and bullying customers like this, you can tell they are neglecting customer service in favour of profit by any means. The scripted responses of the support team demonstrate they’ve been told to cover their backs and protect their fees instead of actually try to be human and just help.
Monzo has forgotten the reasons it was founded and is now a robotic, monolithic institution with the same shoddy ethics around fees and interest that got the big banks in trouble.
I’ll be banking elsewhere for good.

I’ve been with Monzo for several years now and while I generally find the app to be good and feature wise, ahead of the curve compared to the big banks, it’s just not reliable enough. There have been several occasions where the app has just stopped working for no apparent reason, requiring a complete reinstall to get working again. Today was the worst yet. I have just endured through a panic stricken 15 minutes trying to withdraw money from a savings account only to be repeatedly presented with “time-out” messages, and similar error messages in other parts of the app. Absolutely nothing in the app was working at all, not even the help section, so it was impossible for me to contact support. Logging out caused the app to crash and I was then unable to log back in. Alternative methods of contact are not shown anywhere and the help section on the website is useless, blaming my internet connection or email account (which are both working perfectly). Deleting the app and reinstalling it fixed the issue but I would not have known to do this, and would have had no way to find out, had I not been previously told to do so last time something went wrong. I’m going to switch I think, once I’ve emptied my savings account. For a bank that operates ENTIRELY within an app, even occasional episodes such as this are totally intolerable, especially if I’m going to be cut off from support at the exact time that I need my money.

I was on my shift at work and saw a fair amount of people walking in with these “Monzo” cards. They looked really nice, especially the coral one! I made sure I remembered the name of the brand on the card and then when I got home I researched into it! It looked amazing! I immediately downloaded the app and signed up. My card came within 2 days and I activated my account instantly! At first I was a little skeptical of a bank solely running on an app, but Monzo is protected by the “FSCS” meaning money in your account with Monzo is protected up to £85,000 which is piece of mind! Within 3 days of getting used to Monzo and having a little play around I switched from Lloyds! I love Monzo! It really is what a bank should be in this day and age. Rather than having to adapt to technology (Like traditional banks), it’s built on it!
The app is clean and easy to use, and pots are amazing! Why hasn’t anyone else don’t this!!! Pots! They are awesome! They are little pots that you can create instantly and just put some money in there to separate it from your current account so you don’t spend it!
One problem with the Monzo app is the “Create a joint account” button does not seem to be working. I can’t seem to find anywhere in the app to report the “Bug” (If it is one)
But other than that it’s amazing and I would recommend it to anyone who I came across! (in fact I have😂)

Within a few days of having Monzo, I’d transferred my salary and all direct debits to them, set up a joint account with my partner and have been using them as my main bank for 11 months now. If you are still on the fence about signing up, DO IT! That coral card is the way forward!
My bank statement is so easy to read and understand, and I like the feature of showing upcoming payments and being able to set up a budget. I LOVE the savings pots, especially the round up option which really does add up quicker than you’d ever think. I love how you can instantly request money from other monzo users and instantly accept/decline those requests. And of course, the instant notifications which meant I instantly saw when someone had stolen my card and was able to freeze it seconds after they used it and immediately speak to someone to solve the issue and had a new card two days later. What a fantastic bank!!
My fave feature is definitely being able to get paid at 4pm the day before payday!! No words for how much I love dragging that money into the wallet. A fabulous and fun little animation!
Looking forward to joining Plus for that gorgeous white metal card and all the other benefits like seeing your credit rating and the phone insurance!
