They have mucked about with the future balance feature, removing it from the front and now hidden under trends. It makes a simple task more complicated than needed with moving graphs.. a balance is all we seek. Shame they are losing their touch of being a simple to use bank.

It’s alright

Don’t get me wrong it is a good bank but one of the flaws is you have to a bunch of tests and I’ve been denied a few times because I wasn’t up to “their standards” you can’t have enough money and another flaw you have to pay for the delivery of your card 🙄
This part is to Monzo instead of asking for financial details just go straight to the security tests it’d make the signing up process so much better

can’t get my money

i tried to log in on my iPad so i could purchase something and it logged out on my phone, i couldn’t get it on my iPad so i decided i would try do it on my phone instead so i needed to log back in, my account is set up with my old email which is on my iPad but not my phone so i said “use phone number” entered my phone number pressed send code and the code is not sending at all ive tried about 20 times per days for the last three days pressing send again and its not sending me a code…i tried my mums phone number and the code sent to her straight away however it still will not send me the code, i now can’t buy anything on my phone or my iPad meaning i don’t have any money

We are a small business and bank with these. They have had our account frozen for an entire week which is impacting on our running of the business. They don’t call when they say they will and the only way to have a conversation, with multiple people, is by chat, not wholeheartedly sure they’re human and not a bot. We have raised a complaint and also gone above to the ombudsmen and STILL no nearer to being resolved. It’s outrageous and totally DO NOT recommend whatsoever. If it’s ever resolved and we can have access to our money then we will be changing immediately.

Best UK banking app – 10/10

I’ve been with Monzo since 2018, and I can honestly say I love it. It’s not even my main bank account, but I keep using it because the app just makes spending and managing money so much easier. The UI/UX is spot on clean, modern, and everything is right where you need it. Features like open banking and connecting my other accounts/CC in one place are brilliant. I’ve even closed my Revolut account because Monzo covers it all.
What really impressed me was when I needed a loan – the process was instant, smooth, and straightforward. No drama, no paperwork, just approved and done within the app. That’s the kind of convenience you don’t get with most banks.
The only downside for me was the credit card it doesn’t come with any perks, which is why I didn’t stick with it. But as a banking app overall? 10/10. Never had a single problem, and it genuinely feels like Monzo is ahead of the game compared to others.

Convenient, easy, secure. Positive experience

As an international student in the UK, I’ve been using it since I moved in. It’s been 3 years, and it’s so great! I can’t really complain. It’s so simple and easy to use, has a friendly user-interface, and is straightforward.
However, I noticed that for some reason, Monzo cards in Apple Pay get rejected in some places (like Sainsbury’s and Food Warehouse, Selly Oak, Birmingham), when trying to pay contactless, my card just gets rejected for no reason, and when I use another card, it works just fine. I do not know why, but this is not just me, other people with a Monzo card face the same issue.
Another point worth mentioning is that there is no desktop version of Monzo. I’d love to use Monzo and see my account through my computer with a Windows OS and a bigger screen.

Very intuitive!

I was very much a branch based banking customer, not sure why as I rarely went into a branch, but switching to this App for my day to day banking has been so positive for me. I’ve had it for several years now and have the Plus account which is a game changer - namely the saving/allocation pots and the virtual cards. I’ve customised all my Pot icon pictures and I really do enjoy using it. This morning, I set up the Stocks & Shares Investment account in the time it took to make a cup of tea. I really do manage my finances better and easily. I’ve had to call upon the customer services team via the chat feature and they sorted the issue confidently and quickly, absolutely no complaints there. I work in fintech software development myself (not far from the Monzo office - hint hint!) so I’m very in tune with good UX. Monzo wins hands down. Thank you, Monzo!

Amazing banking app

Monzo is amazing and really helps me with managing and tracking my money. I use different pots to transfer money into when I get paid for food, fuel, kids etc and helps me see what I have left to spend. The only improvement I would like to see is when you make a purchase and you are on the transaction tap viewing the information, it would amazing to see a tab pay from pot just like the flex it tab if you have the credit card or split this bill so you can move money easily from a specific pot like food or fuel etc to cover the payment instead of having to go back to the home screen and into pots from there to transfer money. It would save a lot of time and effort if you could just do it from the transaction information.
Monzo is this something that could be possible?

Monzo is the best

Love Monzo. It’s a great bank. Love the app. It’s very functional. Has changed my life and has helped me be better with finances. I have a pot for almost everything and everything pays out of a pot. I loooove pots. Why don’t other banking apps have pots?!! As for the round-up feature… this is so helpful!!! Words can’t even do justice to describe how useful a function this is. Just know that many a time I have been down to my last few pence before payday and have discovered £40/£50/£60/£70+ sitting in a pot from my round-ups! (I say last few pence but with the hidden pots feature that’s never really the case). And on that note, can I just say— hiding pots??!! Absolute game changer!!!!
Every bank needs to be a bit more Monzo!
However… please bring back the widget! I much prefer the Monzo widget to the iOS wallet one! Pleeeeaaaase!

Smarter banking made simple with Monzo

Monzo has completely changed the way I manage my finances. The app is sleek, user friendly. From instant notifications for transactions to budgeting tools and savings pots, everything is designed to help you stay in control of your money. One of my favourites features is the ability to split bills and request payments which it's super convenient when going out with friends. Also the international fee free spending is a huge plus for travelers. The customer support is excellent with quick responses and helpful advice. The only minor improvement I'd suggest is adding more advanced investment options. Overall I'd highly recommend it to anyone looking for smarter way to handle their finances.

Decent Experience but a few things to consider.

I have been using Monzo for 2+ years and as my primary account for the past 14 months. Day to day it’s been great. No major issues. I love features like t eh get paid early and the cash back is a nice feature but I would like to see permanent benefits. One of the things to consider is when I set up my account I was 16 and I had set the gambling block on my account. However I am now 18 and would like to play the lottery, but the cooldown to change this is a year and I would like to see an option to change this. I don’t gamble but I want to buy a lottery ticket and can’t now for a year. The other thing I would consider is they are completely an online bank so no physical branch I can walk into. It’s not normally an issue but a changed phone a few weeks ago and during that period I didn’t have access to move money between saving and my account. It wasn’t directly Monzos fault just comes with the nature of an online only bank account.

Going downhill big time

I have been with monzo since the start and have no problems with the functionality of the app - it’s excellent. However, lately I have had intrusive messages from customer services asking why I’m gambling. I don’t gamble so I was somewhat taken aback. My first instinct was fraud and my account had been targeted!! As it happens I transferred funds to my share dealing account with a large FTSE 250 company who I won’t name but monzo seen this as gambling. This is a company (monzo) who are meant to understand money if you believe their adverts. I have also had another intrusive message from Monzo asking if I need help from another Monzo employee !!!! It’s all a bit baffling TBH as for years I’ve been full of praise for them. However, think carefully about using this company as a bank - the big banks are far more advanced and have a much better range of financial products available to offer you. Also the big banks apps have improved 10 fold. Unfortunately I will be closing my account with monzo as a result of their inappropriate intrusive behaviour. I just wonder if they are feeling the pain now and the big banks are beginning to get the better of them. They try to make light of their image with jokes on LinkedIn etc but in truth, there’s an internal underlying issue here which feels like they are under pressure. Consider carefully who you bank with.

AVOID AT ALL COSTS

If you’re considering Monzo as your bank, think again. My experience with them has been nothing short of a nightmare. Without warning, they closed my account and froze all my funds, leaving me in financial limbo for nearly three weeks. I wasn’t given any explanation, and every attempt to get in touch with them was met with dismissive, scripted responses or no response at all.
Their customer service is among the worst I’ve ever encountered. I spent hours trying to get answers through their in-app chat, and it was like speaking to a brick wall. I asked repeatedly for a reason behind the account closure, and no one could give me a clear answer. Instead, I was left hanging with no timeline, no clear next steps, and no idea when I’d be able to access my money.
If you want a bank that values transparency, accountability, and decent customer service, avoid Monzo at all costs. They’ve shown a complete disregard for their customers, and their lack of communication and professionalism has left me incredibly frustrated. I strongly discourage anyone from using Monzo if they care about having access to their funds and receiving basic respect and transparency.

Gone down hill especially Customer support!

I’m in the same boat as others. I have been a loyal customer of monzo for around 5 years. It was a great and reliable bank that I could use when travelling. However the customer support in the past year is shocking. After trying to take cash out at a legit ATM in Colombia, no cash was given but I was charged, unfortunately this happened again with another ATM where no cash was received but I was still charged. The app recommends blog pages to help, no number or email. It recommended to cancel that card in case of further fraud and wait 7 days because the money should be returned, however, monzo was my only bank that I could use abroad and the money was not returned after 7 days so I contacted customer support to talk explain my situation and what had happened. This happened in January 2024. It is now September 2024 and all the customer support team have said REPEATEDLY is that I am on a waiting list and cannot contact a manager to discuss this. So technically I have had money STOLEN from me and had no help in trying to retrieve the money back. I DO NOT RECOMMEND Monzo anymore. Great if you don’t encounter a problem but as soon as you do you’re not a valued customer. There’s so many other online banks to use abroad so go to another provider like chase or starling or revolut.

Absolutely LOVE Monzo

Honestly I cannot fault this bank AT ALL; I’ve had nothing but good experiences with them. I’ve been using Monzo for years now, and I’ve recently made them my main bank account. The app is incredibly easy and simple to use, and you have so many perks, even when using a free account. I fled abuse in January and became homeless whilst I was on the run trying to find safety. Monzo went above and beyond to maintain my safety and even checked in with me to check I was okay or could do anything; they even sent links and advice about support I could get with what I was going through. They were extremely supportive and patient throughout everything, and I appreciated everything they did and are still doing. I felt completely safe and like Monzo actually cared, which is a lot more than I can say about any other bank I’ve been with.
The ONLY thing that could be better, is withdrawing money from a cash point or the post office. I COMPLETELY understand why they need to do that, as it’s an online bank, rather than a bank in person like others. However, it does surprise me because they then don’t have branches/locations, so it should make more sense to be able to withdraw cash as they don’t have to pay for buildings to operate. Also having to pay for a new card if it’s lost in any way, even if it’s lost in the post which isn’t your fault. But they’re such small issues as a whole, and Monzo are continuously changing and improving their app.

Please read…..Beware Monzo UPDATED

We have been with Monzo for almost 3 years. Everything all okay until there is a problem and you need to contact someone, this is when the big problems arise!! Monzo have frozen our accounts, day 3 now and still no answer or reason as to why they did this! To busy to answer phone lines! Hours to answer a stupid chat with the same useless answer. In the mean time we can not access our money which also means that we can not transfer from our bill pot, which means our direct debits have failed and we will be charged by our insurance and internet service provider for late payments! Monzo said that we could make a complaint regarding this… we was also told to pay our bills by other means, even thought our bill money is in the pot that we can not access. keep in mind that they expect you to wait up to 4 days for a response every time you call, if you can get through. An absolute joke if you ask me. As soon as they pull their finger out and get this sorted we will be closing our accounts and going elsewhere.

Months on and I received £120 compensation!!!
That doesn’t make up for Monzo putting a cefas report on my name, I have had this removed but now my credit score is still a shambles! Score 126 🤬

Worst bank I’ve ever dealt with

Absolutely useless bank.
I switched my current account over to them from Santander and it feels me with so much regret, not only does their app barely work, their team are incapable of the simplest task, they locked me out of my bank account for days because my phone was stolen and once I had recovered my number allowed me access to my account via the app but would not allow me to unfreeze the card, I messaged them continuously through the evening trying to get them to open it so I could buy myself some food as I had none and my dog her medicine as she had run out due to the lack of access, then in the morning one of them unlocked it like it was nothing and the easiest thing in the world to do, I raised a complaint, still heard nothing back, but now contactless does not work and as that is the only card I now have due to switching banks, I am struggling to get into work, direct debits are failing to go through despite being set up and the money available, it’s just the worst bank I’ve ever had dealings with, utterly disgusting treatment and they claim to care about vulnerable customers but it’s a pack of lies. Do not switch to them.

How they got a 4.9 star is beyond me please I urge and beg anyone to afford this bank at all costs. Feel free to contact me. And I will happily. prove the allocations I’m about to show you I am currently in illegal battle with Monzo because they had shot my down after freezing it and stole over £10,000 from my account and refused to give it back. They cannot give me a reason why they shut it down there was nothing new or different going in and out of my account only my children’s money and my wages that was it, I had proven that every time I call to try and get my money back I failed the security which is my name and date of birth they will scam you out of your money because whoever gets their name and date of birth wrong I even shown them my driving license and birth certificate and they said they were fake. Why would I go to fake my own identity, just to claim back my money again I would strongly urge you if you want to keep your money safe. Do not go with Monzo please.

Nothing but praise for this bank

I first got this as my first ever bank when working, thinking it would ‘put me on’ until I get a better bank. But years later I’m still happily continuing to use this bank. The interface is easy to use, all of my separate savings, investments and pots are organised very well. Very easy to send other people money or receive money.
One underrated aspect of this bank I’v found is how quick they sort disputes out, I’v had disputes with eBay before that have taken months to try to sort out with eBay directly but with no outcome, so I opened a dispute on Monzo and within the next 2 hours they paid me the money back.
I’d highly recommend this bank and I will continue using it for the foreseeable future.

Don’t Bank with Monzo

I Banked with Monzo for about 3-4 years they gave me an overdraft and a Monzo Flex card (credit card) I was pretty happy with them until I recently bought a car and had a few bank transfers paid into and out of my account a few days later they decided without reasoning or warning or questioning they would close both my accounts I didn’t do anything dodgy nor was their any fraudulent behaviour on my accounts, if they asked for proof of the payments that may have caused suspicion I would’ve provided it to them but they instead emailed me telling me that they’ve closed my accounts and they can’t provide any reasoning to why they’ve done so, leaving me to change all my direct debits, standing orders and subscription payment methods, I thought I had a reliable relationship with the bank due to the duration of banking and features given to me but no they completely untrustworthy and can turn on you at any given moment without reasoning. Go bank with Starling or Revolut or you’re better off with the bigger/main banks.

Sorry, Monzo, but I can't take any more risks with my money.

I started using Monzo's personal account and found it impressive for the first two weeks. But things took a turn when I tried setting up a joint account to rent a new property with my wife.
When I transferred a large sum to pay the letting agent, Monzo blocked the transaction for security reasons. That's fair enough, but what followed was a frustrating experience. The fraud prevention team called me, and I was amazed by their security verification feature in the app. I provided all the necessary details, emphasizing that the letting agency was genuine.
However, even after hours of waiting and sending requested documents, my account remained locked. I couldn't access the funds to pay the letting agent, who was getting impatient. What made matters worse was Monzo's customer service. The long wait times and poor communication skills of the agents were frustrating. It seemed like they struggled to understand English and lacked proper training.
After numerous calls and follow-ups, my account was finally unlocked. But by then, my confidence in Monzo had plummeted. I couldn't trust them to handle future transactions smoothly.
Despite Monzo's cool app features, the hassle and stress I faced made me decide to close my account and stick with my old bank for joint accounts. Sorry, Monzo, but I can't take any more risks with my money.

Warning! Don’t use Monzo as primary bank

My account was frozen with Monzo after I tried to make a legitimate payment online and they thought it was fraud. They froze my account and I have no access at all to my funds, I needed money to get to work and buy food and have not been able to. This has been the most awful experience, all you get is robot messages in their chat and they tell you the fraud team is busy and it will take time. A warning to anyone that is thinking of using Monzo as their primary bank, DO NOT. You do not get to talk to a human when something goes wrong and you will literally be cut off from your own money leaving you stranded. I have learnt a hard lesson here and will be moving to a high street bank where my money is safer. It is now day 2 and I still have no access to my money and am basically left stranded. Don’t make this mistake. If you choose to use Monzo Atleast keep money in a second account. They freeze everything even joint accounts so stay away.

Not a bank for the people

I have been a Monzo customer for around 3 years. I have a current account and a business account but I’m waiting to switch account now. I do refunds really rarely. I think this was my second or even first…my daughter who is 10 sneaked onto my phone and banking and accessed my account and done some subscription. I was unable to contact the merchant as I didn’t make this subscription and Monzo refused to do a refund. I done work for them and went on to the merchant website when I found out what it was and came to find they offer 30 days refunds for the yearly subscription and it was the first day. I asked Monzo to contact them and cancel it as I was unable to do so due to not having any account details. They refused to help despite it not being me who subscribed and thereafter they would rather charge me than return to the merchant and point their 30 day refund policy out. I’m done this bank is not a good bank everybody thinks it is because of the 1 day early payment. Hardly see the point. This is a business not a bank for the people.

Run away

I opened Monzo year ago after reading lots of reviews. Used it as normal bank to pay for shopping, receiving and sending money to/from friends and family occasionally selling something on fb. Few months later got my account frozen as they wanted to do some checks. They asked some questions about one transaction I explained. Few days later they decided to close my account. Ok, fine. Another month later my Halifax bank rang me saying that they are closing my account because Monzo put a cifas marker on me! It turned out that person who they were asking about made a chargeback saying he didn’t receive goods he wanted despite I provided the proof that person received what he wanted. Without proper investigation they just decided to do that! I complained to Monzo sending all documents again. They removed marker and gave me 200 pounds compensation, but it was 3 worsests months in my live as you can not open any other account if you have cifas marker on your name. On fb there is a group about Monzo it seems like Monzo given them markers to people like sweets to kids without proper investigation!

Monzo Bank, well we’re to start here, I’m disabled and have started to find my street bank has changed, not for the good of us,. monzo on the other hand is different and it just works, paying friends or family from home text info there account. Have family and friends that on Monzo makes life easier and better, can send and pay from phone, get great support and deals. Have choice from 3 accounts type and business plan to. This is the best bank you will find better than other banks. Have experience with a few different banks and change to other like Monzo Bank now I will them have found, my life is easier with what I am paying out showing me everything from payment to spending and the savings pots are great to lock your money for a month or longer year, so you can save without worrying of spending with lock on the savings for Christmas, etc. highly recommended online bank Monzo.

Monzo has literally changed my life.. just simply making use of its capabilities has tripled my credit rating, I was unable to get finance on anything because I took out loans when I was 18 without thinking. I’ve been with Monzo since 2017. Initially to see what the excitement was about, but immediately switched and made it my main account when it became possible.
I’ve sent many friends and family their way and will continue to do so. I was actually just talking to a friend about a new feature which is what prompted me to write this review. Things are just so simple with the app. Things that are unnecessarily complicated with other banks is a few taps with Monzo, with all the information you need, clearly laid out.
There are constant new features added, lots of perks and they genuinely make banking quite fun, as strange as that is to say.
Monzo flex is just an astounding product when it comes to credit. The flexibility and control, the information you have before and after, the ability to flex something further down the line - simply amazing.
If you’re on the fence, give it a go, you will not regret it.
Early payments for wages. Flex. Cash back. High interest, instant withdrawal savings pots, excellent money management features, travel and phone insurance, digital cards for online purchases, the list goes on and on. And all of it is instant and super simple to do.

Great bank that is getting lost in too many ideas

Monzo was an incredible bank when I joined. Iconic orange card, instant notifications of payments, Apple Pay integration, it all just worked.
Then came the updates… sure, some were meant to improve your life, like “Premium” membership and pots and savings accounts you can access in a tap, or lock to prevent you dipping into them. But then came the user interface updates. The layout changes that move everything around (seemingly on a weekly basis). Then there’s the soft launches, so specific users get new features - like cashback - weeks, even months, before others.
On the whole, I still believe they are a great alternative to a high street bank. I just wish they would have the courage to stick with the ideas and designs that people loved, and stop competing with other banking apps that try to hard.

Love Monzo, Hate the New App

I’ve been with Monzo for about 5-6 years and love a lot of the banking features it offers. Usually well ahead of the curve in regards to tech (getting paid early, freezing card instead of replacing, seeing card details in the app) and have never had any issues with day to day management. Despite the below frustrations, overall I really enjoy banking with them.
The new app layout however is so disappointing.
It’s cluttered and disorganised, with multiple different locations for pots, savings and overall account balance, making it unnecessarily complicated to work out your finances. There feels like constant upsell banners, tickers and widgets telling me to ‘upgrade’ for different features I’m not interested in. I just want a clean, simple user experience that allows me to track my spend, not a social media style layout with ads, that makes me play hide and seek with my savings.

I was a huge advocate of Monzo but recently

So I’d have been the first to say that Monzo was awesome. As a challenger bank they challenged and won against many of the other big banks.
So what has changed. Firstly the natural growth of a business often means a watering down of quality whether it’s technical support customer service speed of response, or even more products we're targeted with marketing collateral I do t want and over automation.
Well this seems to be creeping into Monzo.
I’ve always lived there chat with us but as of late shorter more curt and less helpful replies with assumptions aplenty. When we think tech works and it doesn’t it takes ages to realise problems. Payments not allowed for u known reasons causing issues. Monzo also updated the UI and changes the quality of the user experience personally I dont like it any more.
Gone from 5 to 2 stars for now. Hope it changes back soon.

Top customer service | Amazing bank

I have Monzo for 5-6 years (we are in oct 2023). If there is one thing I can say, the customer service is amazing, so easy to access with the webchat. Replacing a card, reporting fraud, adding cash on the account via paypoint, saving money on a different account with interest… It is so easy and functional.
Their customer service is absolutely outstanding, I remember once, my bank card were stolen and used. This situation put me in real difficulties because I couldn’t do anything like taking transport to go to work etc… I remember that a special service of their team contacted me to know if I was ok, if I needed support in any way… the message (letter) they sent me were so compassionate and encouraging. At that time my moral were very bad and I was so anxious about the loss I had and my capacity to move forward. I didn’t ask for more support at that time, but just to receive a message, a human supportive message made me find the strength to move forward until the fraud issue were solved.
Really it is rare in this world to have such a good customer service, with people professional and emotionally there for you. Outstanding
I was amazed, I know that I will not change bank because of this experience.

Strongly advise a different bank

I have use Monzo for a couple of years, and never really had a problem with it, until today. My problem is pretty well known, just look up Monzo freezing and closing accounts.
They have frozen my account after I tried to buy PC parts on eBay. I still have £850 in the account which I cannot access or spend/transfer.
I just got my wages and need to buy food and pay electric and rent, which I cannot do now. They froze it when I was about 100 miles away from home, so I had no access to money for petrol, or even a train to get myself home, so I am currently writing this whilst walking 100 miles home.
I have uploaded proof of what I was purchasing to the live chat and emailed about it, but so far they have done nothing.
There is many cases like mine being reported almost daily onto the Facebook group appropriately named “STAY AWAY FROM MONZO BANK” and there is even some in reputable newspapers’ websites.
They have also caused me to miss work, because without a car I cannot do my job as a community and young person support worker, this is as far as I’m aware a very unfortunate mistake on their end, but that is not very consoling to me as I’m walking home trying to figure out what I’m going to eat when I get back in the very many hours I have left of this walk.
So, in my opinion, go with any different bank, surely no other bank would put you in a situation even remotely close to the one I’m in.

Lost the edge

I loved Monzo when it was new and pushing the boundaries. I moved my accounts over fully and didn’t look back. Lately (past couple of years) though things have not been so shiny. Categories don’t get remembered. Eg I pay wages from my business account and it never remembers they are wages category. Oh. And despite scheduling my wages payment from Monzo to Monzo I never get paid a day early. So. I have not be on Monzo to benefit from this? Huh. It used to I can’t see how much is due to go out tomorrow. It totals each day’s spending but not the known immediate future spending. And now the new Home Screen. Forced on an audience that didn’t ask for it. Why blend all activity? If we wanted that we wouldn’t have split it out into separate accounts and pots. Plus the app regularly has a problem and needs to be quit and reopened to load the latest data. I think I will look around. Other banks are making handsome cash offers to move. The new look finally made me actually emotional enough to hate the experience.

The best yet the worst

Been with them for about 4 years, and i used to think that they were great, then one day, without any notice they closed my account and before i could even notice my money in it were even less...try to get in touch multiple time was just frustrating, the operator was keep saying that they were not allowed to say nothing apart for basic info...like the fact that my money were about half i was remember and that i would have received an email with a statement that never arrived, about Flex, instead they sent the email with what i am supposed to own them just the day after...unbelievable those didn't seem right to, but cannot saying anything as they denied the access to the app so you have no ways to check anything...just now i discovered that they did to many others and keep doing it like nothing is happening, not caring if is your only bank account, if u are abroad or if you are in a emergency situation....that was the most unreliable bank i ever been with, my advice....stay away!

Home lay-out has broken the summary for each day

I absolutely LOVE Monzo. My whole family has Monzo cards, and have been using them for years. I used to find it incredibly easy to keep track of my spending because of the summary next to each date of how much I’ve spent that day HOWEVER since the new update this feature has broken!!
The summary/daily total spent now includes any money that you’ve been sent or gained, which makes it much more difficult to work out my total spendings for that day. Additionally, if you’ve been sent more money than you’ve spent for that day there just isn’t a number shown for the total spent! I really hope that this is just a short term bug and will be fixed, or there will be an option to change how this total is calculated.

Poor.

My card had become reviewed after I’d sold items for my business and received payment- I was confused but wasn’t upset over this fact and was expecting it to be sorted in about a week, however it’s far exceeded that and i’ve been waiting with little to no progress so far and have just been told that i might have to wait 15 days to 8 weeks. If i had other cards i would still be frustrated but as a 17 year old with no real need of having multiple cards you can understand my anger of this, quite literally refraining myself from speaking truthfully as well. The reviewal of my account can be understood but the unnecessary lengths of time they’ve taken is displeasing. The downside of monzo online banking is definitely the lack of effort the customer ‘support’ team provide. If you are someone that resells goods LEGALLY to gain profit, I highly recommend not using this bank as they have terrible service in helping customers and provide patronising advice.

Awful bank

At first Monzo was really good and adhd friendly due to the pots and colours. They have a generally friendly tone in customer service. However. They have started to remove customers who do not make a lot of money. I earn just enough and despite being a loyal customer and Monzo plus member (paying them £5 a month for m more colours and making my own categories for expenditures) they have refused me for a business account many times, without any explanation. I am a start up business trying to get everything sorted out - I am 25 years old and still figuring things out. Without any explanation due to, they closed my account with two months notice. Upon researching I found that they get rid of customers who are not bringing in a large salary every year. I am a student and trying to rub my own business. I have struggled with my credit score at points in time and I believe this may be another factor. I’m wondering why this happened, was it the fact that I am paying my parents rent from my account and they do not like to see a lot of money transfers? Paying for my brothers clubs? Or that I have a shaky credit score? Either way. This bank has shown no loyalty to its customers.

Excellent!

It’s not often I bother to write a review when something works as you would hope, I tend to only write reviews when complaining about something, but Monzo deserves a bit of my time for a 5 star review because they have done such an amazing job with their app.
Everything is self-explanatory easy to use the features are great with virtual cards, organised scheduled payments, and reviewing transaction history is so neat and tidy, if i want to see all payments I have made to a company i can, if i want to see my spending habits i can, when ever i think oh it would be nice to see X… or do something I can’t in other banking apps I just look around the app a bit and tada Monzo lets me do it…
Love this app, my only wish is that there was a Desktop browser version as I am getting a bit old and can’t see a mobile screen very well any more, a side from that, AMAZING!

Terrible customer service

There’s a lot I love about Monzo. However, there is a serious bug in the app which meant I was physically unable to make a payment to my Flex account, ultimately resulting in a high interest charge. Every time I tried to make the payment, I received an error message saying something had gone wrong and to try again later. This never went away.
I have spent weeks trying to get help with the issue and have found their customer service team very friendly but extremely slow and unhelpful. It now feels like they are actively choosing not to resolve the issue, and it has led me to decide to stop using the Flex service. It’s useful being able to use interest-free lending, but not an app bug forces interest charges where they are not needed or wanted.
I really hope they solve this problem but, for now, I would recommend not using Monzo Flex.

Worst company, think before trusting with your money

I’ve been a Monzo customer quite happily for a good few years, when a current account was offered I slowly migrated all my finances to the app, salary, direct debits, mortgage outgoings and every day spending. I paid for the plus service and used their flex offering, then last week out of the blue, I get an email we are closing your account, I thought a mistake surely, someone has clicked a wrong button, or Monzo have been hacked or something. Anyway instantly my card was cancelled, my money was frozen , my direct debits weren’t getting paid, my mobile was blocked from getting through to customer support and I was getting canned messages from the chat operatives. Top it off I would have to supply a new bank account reference and wait 2-4 weeks to get my money back. They wont tell you why, but apparently they can behave in this way because it’s in their terms and conditions. Please look elsewhere, there are similar stories of mine online about this company.

Omg where do I start? I have been with Monzo since 2019 and honestly it has been a life saver! I am now oN Monzo premium BECAUSE IT IS WORTH IT!Not only can I organise my funds appropriately with Monzo, but there are many other perks- like I literally don’t need a credit card thanks to Monzo flex, I get to still build my credit in a more controlled way! They give you options to take loans and if you have any financial issues along the way, they are always there to help! Anytime some companies try to scam me, Monzo helps with the dispute and refunds me ! Literally any advisor I have had a chat with on the app is super helpful, patient and understanding! Like I absolutely love this bank, and I would urge everyone to open it up cause 😍😍😍😍🥹🥹🥹🔥🔥💕💕💕

Only 1 Thing Wrong with Monzo

Love Monzo, great app functionality and customer service. Could even look past the annoyance of having to POST cheques rather than being able to take photos (functionality that banks such as HSBC offer).
However, the reason myself and my husband have had to leave Monzo, is the bizarreness of trying to open a joint account together. Tried many many times. It looks like the app is glitching out and the button just not working, but when you contact the web chat, it turns out this means it won’t let you. And the worst part - they can’t tell you the reason why.
Starling has let us open a joint account immediately so clearly there were no issues with credit scores, financial history etc.
Have seen posts online from people having had similar struggles.

Terrible Customer Response

Been with this bank now for over two months and although the app is fantastic the backup from customer service lets this bank down badly. Chat response is not live, your message gets put in a pool then (eventually) answered by random agents, with generic response’s. When once you reply, your message seems to be placed back in the pool and someone else picks up the message, then you have to start the conversation all over again? Im having issues with my steel card, it’s too thick to use in some ATMs. (Partners card ok in same ATM) As a premium account holder, you can order or replace a card twice in a year, after much messaging with various agents although it’s the card at fault was offered a plastic card not steel instead? You would think I was asking for a 18c gold card replacement, come on guys! As well as these instances I’ve had various issues and again I’m met with genetic responses from agents who just don’t read the message I send them, if you’re looking for a service that meets the function of the app be warned!

Dubious

As great as the bank is I mean the app.. it’s features the ease of use, simplicity, all of the above one thing concerns me is that should I lose my phone I’ve lost all the connection to my money. If I play out the scenario I lose my phone, I’ve lost my sim… I talk to my sim provider they will send me a new sim… fine depends on post arriving on time. I could therefore be without my money for 5-7 days. This is the reality of the situation. If Monzo had a working online presence in order to transfer funds to a spouses account that would give people more peace of mind. I did have this bank as my main account but when my phone starting to play up I thought long and hard. This is a suggestion thatMonzo should really think about and it will revolutionise your ability for people to have access to their money…. Allow people to enter an emergency account and give them a special automated line and a special password which automatically transfers a set amount to that connected account.. if you do this I’ll use you as my main account!

Concerned

Been with Monzo a month now and already been in embarrassing situations where the app doesn’t work or my card when shopping , I had to have all my Christmas food shopping put back by the shop I have shopped in for years , it was humiliating. I could get cash out . I ended up transferring money to another account I have with another bank and going back to the shop all over again being watched by staff. I feel I can’t go in the shop again . I suffer with panic attacks and this made me worse.
I am scared to use my card again😡
I contacted Monzo they said it’s the shops fault , but my other card worked🤷🏻‍♀️
I am one considering just keeping Monzo for my DD as can’t go through changing them all again and using my other bank more at least they have a branch I can travel in an emergency.

I have always used the traditional banks Nat West and nationwide… I decided to give Monzo a go as I had seen an advertisement for it .. I set everything up and for the first few weeks it was great ,, transactions are very easy and the app is great .. I started to use this account as my main account so and had a balance of around £3000 ,,,,,,, this is where it all went wrong ,, I received a message saying they had decided to close my account ,,, no explanation, can’t speak to anyone as they don’t have a facility to actually speak to a person .. I did eventually get a response from customer service by email who just told me that they can’t give me an explanation but my account has been closed and I will receive my money in 2-4 weeks .. I have been in constant contact with them requesting updates but just get the exact same answer .. it’s been over 4 week now and still haven’t received my money .. I will be taking this matter to the financial ombudsman but it doesn’t solve my problem now xmas is next week and Monzo have all my money

The bank that makes it seem like child’s play

After several years with Monzo it makes me wonder why so many of the other banks are so bad? Monzo is simple, it does what it needs and is very intuitive to use (and is actually quiet nice to look at).
The thing that really sealed the seal for me was that when I was a victim of some minor fraud (someone else ordering takeaways on my card somehow) Monzo enabled me to freeze my card (and un-freeze it for a few minutes to buy my lunch while at work), then use the chat to talk to an actual person (a rare experience these days) who refunded me my lost money! And got a card sent out to me in a day or so!
The only things I can think of to improve Monzo would be if you could rename the categories in the spend tracking options?
In short Monzo sets the standard for modern banking, why would you settle for anything less?

Failing at every turn

I was with Monzo for just over a year. It was my primary bank account for this time and from the normal transactions, card payments, direct debits, things were ‘normal’. This is where Monzo peaks unfortunately. From the very messy, faulty, unsupported on boarding process to trying to get ANY answer out of them that didn’t require passing on to 2, 3 or 4 other staff before an answer is given, to the appalling manner in which the organisation conducts its customer care (or lack of). I had nothing but nightmares when I did t recognise a transaction, my card was stopped then started then stopped, I was given incorrect information a number of times and at every turn I was copy/pasted terms and conditions rather than treated like a respected and valued customer. I was unsupported when I was ripped off by an eBay seller, unsupported when I didn’t recognise transactions on my account and the whole concept of card payment protection seemed to befuddle staff. And even the offboarding process was met with discontent and ignorance, and blaming everyone else in the process…after it had been passed to 4 or 5 different staff, of course! I’ve moved to Starling now and I won’t return to or recommend Monzo.

Closing my account for no reason

So, before I give out the reason why I’ve gave it 2 stars, I would first like to say this bank was really good and helped me out with day to day life. However, not just only me but a lot of other people accounts are being closed down without an explanation which is weird. I find it really disrespectful because of the simple fact that there’s other out here that use this bank as a main account because it’s more easier for them, another thing is that people have a life and they might have children and or they’re working and you guys are closing peoples account. AND on top of that I’ve heard from friends that used this bank and there is so many other issues about your app and the customer services were rubbish. So PLEASE sort everything out before my account (which is 18th April) is close down and anyone else that account is about to close down. And if anyone’s account been closed already they got every right to reopen their account or get an email to confirm their account is reopen and give them a refund if they have any outstanding money from you guys.

BEWARE!! They let a fraudster steal £4269 and have refused to help

Monzo pretend to care until things go wrong. Then you can expect the worst treatment of any bank I’ve ever been with. They are a disgrace. Monzo let TWENTY FIVE transactions go through consisting of THOUSANDS of pounds and not only didn’t block but didn’t even alert me! What an absolute failure and a disgrace for a bank that is supposed is supposed to keep money safe. Where amounts were in singapore currency to a company registered in Malta. Monzo even gave this fraudster a real logo! Like seriously! How bad can you get. They let multiple transactions to the same account each day.
They never alerted me and when I contacted them in horror they denied any responsibility, said they would not refund the £4269 they let get taken out of my account and “sorry if you’re unhappy with the outcome” and “let me know if you are happy to accept this as a resolution”. I am so disgusted and shocked. Absolutely appalling. If you want your money safe AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE.

Great bank that is gradually getting worse.

I’ve loved Monzo and have been using it as my main bank account since my Beta account became a current account for it’s amazing instant transactions, ease of use with friends, customer support chat, and great international rates while feeling like quite a real bank. However, as time goes on I have seen Monzo evolve to include ridiculous offers of the premium service which really doesn’t feel like you’re getting anything good for the money with incredibly low interest offering, features that you can get for free elsewhere, and ‘exclusive deals’ that feel like Monzo were paid to include and are definitely far from exclusive to Monzo premium. With premium it also makes the general current account feel very cheap as the app constantly reminding you to go premium, especially with the year in Monzo review. It is very off putting. On top of this, Monzo bringing in limited free card replacements (or none and limited cash withdrawals of you don’t meet a certain criteria) makes Monzo a bank I really no longer can recommend (after convincing 15-20 people to join). This is the only notable bank I know which charge for card replacements, and charges for cash deposits. Now I can only recommend, and am even considering switching to either Starling Bank, which hasn’t got any of these issues mentioned, or to just opt for a high street bank which I would have never thought to recommend.

Unreliable

I’ve been with Monzo for several years now and while I generally find the app to be good and feature wise, ahead of the curve compared to the big banks, it’s just not reliable enough. There have been several occasions where the app has just stopped working for no apparent reason, requiring a complete reinstall to get working again. Today was the worst yet. I have just endured through a panic stricken 15 minutes trying to withdraw money from a savings account only to be repeatedly presented with “time-out” messages, and similar error messages in other parts of the app. Absolutely nothing in the app was working at all, not even the help section, so it was impossible for me to contact support. Logging out caused the app to crash and I was then unable to log back in. Alternative methods of contact are not shown anywhere and the help section on the website is useless, blaming my internet connection or email account (which are both working perfectly). Deleting the app and reinstalling it fixed the issue but I would not have known to do this, and would have had no way to find out, had I not been previously told to do so last time something went wrong. I’m going to switch I think, once I’ve emptied my savings account. For a bank that operates ENTIRELY within an app, even occasional episodes such as this are totally intolerable, especially if I’m going to be cut off from support at the exact time that I need my money.

So far, AMAZING

I was on my shift at work and saw a fair amount of people walking in with these “Monzo” cards. They looked really nice, especially the coral one! I made sure I remembered the name of the brand on the card and then when I got home I researched into it! It looked amazing! I immediately downloaded the app and signed up. My card came within 2 days and I activated my account instantly! At first I was a little skeptical of a bank solely running on an app, but Monzo is protected by the “FSCS” meaning money in your account with Monzo is protected up to £85,000 which is piece of mind! Within 3 days of getting used to Monzo and having a little play around I switched from Lloyds! I love Monzo! It really is what a bank should be in this day and age. Rather than having to adapt to technology (Like traditional banks), it’s built on it!
The app is clean and easy to use, and pots are amazing! Why hasn’t anyone else don’t this!!! Pots! They are awesome! They are little pots that you can create instantly and just put some money in there to separate it from your current account so you don’t spend it!
One problem with the Monzo app is the “Create a joint account” button does not seem to be working. I can’t seem to find anywhere in the app to report the “Bug” (If it is one)
But other than that it’s amazing and I would recommend it to anyone who I came across! (in fact I have😂)

Banking refreshed!

Within a few days of having Monzo, I’d transferred my salary and all direct debits to them, set up a joint account with my partner and have been using them as my main bank for 11 months now. If you are still on the fence about signing up, DO IT! That coral card is the way forward!
My bank statement is so easy to read and understand, and I like the feature of showing upcoming payments and being able to set up a budget. I LOVE the savings pots, especially the round up option which really does add up quicker than you’d ever think. I love how you can instantly request money from other monzo users and instantly accept/decline those requests. And of course, the instant notifications which meant I instantly saw when someone had stolen my card and was able to freeze it seconds after they used it and immediately speak to someone to solve the issue and had a new card two days later. What a fantastic bank!!
My fave feature is definitely being able to get paid at 4pm the day before payday!! No words for how much I love dragging that money into the wallet. A fabulous and fun little animation!
Looking forward to joining Plus for that gorgeous white metal card and all the other benefits like seeing your credit rating and the phone insurance!
