There’s no guarantee of getting meat free options, despite specifying this in the account. The main issue is that most of the waste items are hyper processed- sandwiches in plastic etc. it’s mainly large chain brands that I already tend to avoid due to processed food and high waste.
There are many locally produced and sourced projects with higher quality and unprocessed, healthier options. It would make the app service much more useful to see higher quality produce, rather than just big chain company processed food waste.

Fairly bad selection in my city, but once I checked the vegetarian box there was basically nothing, just some stale croissants from Starbucks. Great idea but useless to me. It’s not like vegetarianism is a new thing, it’s 3000 years old and everyone is familiar with the diet which is catered for extensively, except here…

Cancellation by the customer or store is supposed to be up until 2h before the stated collection time. But the shop (a Harvester) cancelled 20 mins before that time while I was en route and unable to look at my phone. They broke the terms and conditions. And there is no compensation for my inconvenience.
Once I get my money back I’m deleting the app.

Was a good app at first, really depends on what is available for the area. Recent experiences have not been at all good.
With a few orders that had been cancelled by store on arrival leading to repeated wasted trips. Granted I had the magic bag costs refunded but with it being repeated cancellations by store.
Completely given up on this altogether.

On the whole I’m enjoying using this app and generally pleased with the contents of the bags .
Occasionally I have received bags with items duplicated and going out of date that day. Eg sandwiches when it was a general grocery bag.
Also on 2 occasions I have set off to collect by car , got there to find that it had been cancelled within a short time of the collection time.
As a purchaser you can only cancel before it gets to the last hour before the collection time. The seller doesn’t seem to have to stick to this rule. Maybe to stop waisting peoples time , and travel costs this could be implemented as well?

Waiting until someone is en route to collect is abhorrent.
If management in the restaurant don’t know their product well enough to advise customers in advance of heading to the restaurant then they have no business on it. Elginhaugh farm cancelling after 8pm when collection started at 8 is a shocking way to treat users of this app.
No compensation just a half hearted apology

Version 23.9.10
I’ve used this for a while now. Some deals are much better than others. Only problem I’ve ever had was when my collection time was changed. As someone who lives rurally I don’t like to make unnecessary trips in the car as it would defeat the object of saving this food from waste so I was surprised that my time slot was altered after I’d paid. Hope it doesn’t happen again. Otherwise a great wee idea and super value overall.

I have just collected my to good to go bag, while there was plenty choice everything has todays date on which when collecting at this time of night means a lot of it is wasted as it is turning already, and having eaten earlier means we don’t have room to eat any of it now, maybe we are getting it cheaper but even 1 day more before the use by date would be better

What a special little find this pub was. Food great, service excellent and speedy, polite and friendly informative and helpful staff. We have been to Greene Kings as far away as Devon and central London and this one didn’t disappoint either. Thanks and well done!
This app is great, can’t always get the ones I want but happy with those I do get. The staff are excellent and always deal with queries efficiently and in a great manner. Thank you and welcome back. Stay safe to you and all those who provide and use the service.
Morrisons are either really good or they just give you a heap of spuds or staff say there’s no more boxes, when they have been purchased! Very odd, and inconvenient when I catch a bus to collect, my bus fare is not free. Today was a good one, lovely selection of good quality food delivered by a very kind gentleman. Thank you Camberwell for today.
Yet again you have been ‘busy at work’ updating the app - it’s constant and now I cannot update the app because my phone is older and not compatible. So infuriating!

Inconsistent and repeated poor experiences

I’ve ordered 5 of these bags now. The first 2 were very positive experiences, from both an independent cake shop and a high street chain cafe. However, I have since had 3 poor experiences in a row. The first had no food to offer and I’ve still been charged for it, then I was given food that needed cooking and the cafe refused to cook it, even after explaining we had no cooking facilities (we were staying in a hotel) and there were no cooking instructions provided anyway! Finally I collected a “mixed” bag of “pastries, cakes, muffins, cookies, scones etc” and the bag contains only pastries. I expect the selection to be random but the language used to describe the bag does give a clear impression that it will contain at least 2 of the food categories. The app claims food is saved from waste but this is misleading if the bags offered contains uncooked food with no cooking instructions or so much of the same thing that even distributed to a whole family there is too much to consume.

If in doubt try it out you can’t lose

So far I’ve only had three suprised bags of groceries.
My first was Aldi Chester Road it wasn’t my first choice but was still available when my coop had cancelled Hopefully due to not having food left
Was is a good box yes but not necessarily for me as it contains a lot of bread items which was wasted on me buying just for me but even taking the bread out I still had more than my moneys worth
My second box again not from my first choice coop but the one at The Radleys way better for me as a lone person and would defo go back again in a heartbeat the staff were lovely oh sorry so where the ones at Aldi and both stores carried my boxes to my car as I’m on arm crutches
Then last night I actual got to try out my local Coop Shard End their and back in less than ten minutes lol
A good selection I have posted what was in my goodies I took a bag in with me then I hadn’t got to worry about carrying a box but I’m sure Luke the others would have carried it to my car if I’m nitpicking I’m my other two boxes I had some fruit but everything else I would / will use
So go on give it a go as even if meals / meet produces are same day freeze them and use them when ur ready I will defo be back will I try a bigger store again like Aldi maybe not if so much bread but another night could be totally different
If I’m doubt just try it out what u got to lose !!!!

This is such an amazing idea and works perfectly for my lifestyle. In this current climate, there is so much surplus food waste in supermarkets and an increasing cost of living crisis, that this helps people who are struggling to feed themselves and their families, so it should be a win win for all parties.
However, I’ve had Morrisons cancel my order twice now. I’ve never received a refund for one of the orders and I suspect I won’t receive the 2nd refund either. Trying to contact the Too good to go on my this subject is extremely frustrating. There is no contact details for a customer service department, when you go to the drop down menu, there’s no FAQ link for “no refund on cancelled orders” and no way of you contacting them to ask any questions that are not on the drop down menu. So not only am I out of pocket, I’m feeling really let down by what could be an amazing idea!

If you have never used this app before then you need to get on this quick. Some people have this preconceived idea that something like this is for scabby people picking up scraps. Believe me when you see what you get you will realise that this is not the case.
Most people who I have seen using the app and collecting the dinners, have said what an awesome app it was because it’s allowed them to get something cheap, hot and yummy and they don’t have to cook dinner or wash up any dishes and that if they went to the shop, it would probably cost way more than what they have paid. I have literally witnessed people picking up the mail bag and jumping into an amazing car, like a Mercedes, Porsche, Maserati. So no, it’s not people with no money, it’s people with sense.

Great app and value for money

I’ve had a great experience so far from the app, I make my partner sandwich’s everyday for lunch but with this app I can get things from greggs/Paul/other sort shops for the week! One bag from greggs I was handed 2 crossaints, sausage roll, 2 hot pastries, 2 donuts, the lady also offered me another bag whilst I was in there (it was a Friday it was in the city and they don’t open on the weekend) where she put a tuna sandwich, chicken sandwich more pastries. In the end I ended up giving some to the homeless on my way home as I felt greedy with all this food for £2.95! I think it’s a great idea and for the time we are in currently with cost of living, it does help people. Like other people have said it’s the shops that give you the crappy stuff, once you have one bad experience or ongoing bad experience just don’t go back there! 😊

Retailers can cancel at the last minute, but you can’t.

My local Spar has cancelled 2 out of the 3 “magic bags” I was able to order. It seems the magical thing is that they disappear before your eyes. As a buyer, you’re only allowed to cancel with 2 hours notice which means you’re losing your hard earned cash if you’re stuck in traffic or your train gets cancelled. On the other hand, the store appears able to cancel at any time and this time it was so late I only got to find out when I arrived at the store. They said that they didn’t have enough food yet the one bag I did get from them contained food that didn’t expire until the following day. This time there was discounted food on the counter including items where the expiry date doesn’t really matter much. It wouldn’t have provided much variety but it would have met the requirements of the offer. However, I have been able to collect bags when travelling and haven’t been let down by any other retailer, which brings my average rating to date to 2.5/5 where a cancellation scores zero although it should arguably be negative as I have incurred the time, effort and cost of travel for nothing.

What a “wonderful” idea - food that previously would have gone to charities, food banks, community projects, people in need, or just underpaid business’ workers is now making even more profits for the businesses. Playing with the hipsters’ guilt the app’s marketing team beautifully presents their lucrative adventure under the guise of an ultimate world-saving act. I have not had many “Magic Bags” with the app, but they were enough to appreciate how invariably horrible the experience of discovering the bag’s contents is. Why one would need so much bread? Cannot it be used to create sourdough for fresh loafs? What is one supposed to do with all these pastries - already past their attractiveness? I would not probably give them even to pigeons, it’s so bad for their stomachs. I wish people responsible for businesses would just make their calculations better, and no left-overs will be left after the opening hours. Also, please, the REAL food is NEVER wasted!.. Fruits, vegetables, berries, seeds gone bad are just perfect to enrich soils for new crops - instead of using chemicals.
It is just all very, profoundly, deeply sad.

I’ve used the app for around a month or so now with mixed results. Sometimes the magic bags have been well worth the money, others have been OK and a minority have been poor value. In those that have been just ok, mainly supermarkets, the items have already been reduced in price, so could have been bought in store at that reduced price for less than the cost of the magic bag and only you only have the items you really want. In a minority of cases, the magic bag has worked out to be the same price as buying the items directly from the establishment. Not really what this app is supposed to be about I feel! It would be helpful if more detailed reviews were available for the individual establishments in the app.

App - Disappointed with the latest software upgrade you still don’t allow us to copy & paste the address of the shops. It looks like you’re either encouraging people to walk which make sense if it’s doable or drive. The later, pollution & traffic is already bad enough. Give us the copy & paste address or link it up to public transport please; CityMapper, TfL Go, Journey Planner etc.
TGTG - The concept itself is great. Won’t lie, there are shops that sells item that is no longer in good condition. Or you get plenty of same stuff in a bag, worst if it all expires on the same day & there’s only little hours left. It’s all lucky draw really. Just spend when you’re willing to “take the risk”. If you’re lucky, you’ll save a really lovely meal or get decent groceries.

Heard of this app from a friend three months ago, immediately thought it was a wonderful idea. I downloaded the app but unfortunately there wasn’t many choices around where I live at the time, so I uninstalled it after a while. Three months later, decided to give another go, and I am very impressed this time. I am now able to collect magic bags from local supermarkets, bakeries, and café. The sheer amount of food I can get with such small amount of money exceeds my expectation. Although I may not like every item I get, but I’m not a fuzzy person so happy to go with luck. It also makes me think of my previous behaviour on food wastage, and in addition, changed my attitude towards grocery shopping. The food collection process is very smooth and almost painless. I will definitely keep on using this app and recommend it to all my friends.

Bought two bags over the Christmas period. One when I went to collect I was told wasn’t available - but the manager went and packed me 8 bags of bread rolls and some pears - so we now have a freezer of bread rolls I have no idea what to do with.
And the others cost with the labels on came to barely over £4 - it’s advertised as being £12 worth of food.
When I contacted customer services they sent something saying oh well on the website price the items would be £12, but the items were out of date and had labels on them as reduced - meaning I could have walked into the store picked what I wanted from the reduced isle and gotten myself a better deal - or just saved the petrol and not gone at all.
I asked for clarity and got exactly the same email word for word copy and pasted as a reply.
Don’t use - save yourself some pennies and just check reduced isles yourself

I don’t understand how a ‘magic bag’ which is a complete lucky dip benefits food waste when the likelihood is you won’t like / be able to use 50-75% of what’s in the bag and have to throw it away ?? This seems so strange and not aligned with the ethos. Why not just advertise specific items that will be thrown away and people can rescue them by buying individually. There’s not enough ways to be specific with preferences. If you really want to do a magic bag, then why not create a simple check box list of every item from that store , so you have stated what you would (and more importantly wouldn’t) like if anything is left over at the end of the day. The blind bag idea is so risky for food waste. Plus you don’t know if it will be worth your money. Maybe you get nothing you like then you’ve spent money and had to throw it away so will have the net result of feeling awful when it’s supposed to be a feel good product/ idea. I think the principle is good but it needs some work to be better so you can order specifics & preferences. 🙏

I was once so melancholy and broken hearted from the upsettingly unwanted events that appeared in my depressingly miserable time of existence, when suddenly, the intelligent brain that I somehow equipped at an impressively youthful age, thought of the most wonderful, marvelous, magnificent, delightful, tremendous, sensational idea the population has ever even comprehended, to download this most heavenly app from the gods; when this episode occurred in my life, I thought to myself, these words exactly "Oh, golly gosh! I have reached happiness at last! mummy fetch me parchment and a quill at once! I must write a review immediately!" and so I did. As a gift for being so immensely superb, I have written a poem for you: Every heart's a hurricane Each souls a starlit sea Every minds a meteor Unbound my gravity And everyone's wishing They could learn to tame their tides, When nothing more than nature Is what' echoing inside Thank you, I hope you enjoyed

I used to love using this app we ordered lots of vegetarian carveries, was brilliant, no complaints at all, yummy. However haven’t used it for a while I went back on and despite making sure my preferences are set, and trying over and over , for some reason I now can’t seem to filter out items I’m not interested in. I have filtered out non veggie & all breakfast/daytime bags but keep seeing them. it’s really difficult and takes ages to find what I am looking for, I deleted and re installed still not working. feel like giving up. I’d also like the option to search for places in a miles radius rather than only in kilometres, I prefer not to use kilometres and would like this option it would make the experience perfect. Apart from that the idea and food is great just please sort the search settings and preferences.

Wish I’d found this sooner!! Such a life saver 🙌🏻🙌🏻

I was recommended to look at using the app by a family member living in a different part of the country & subsequently the TGTG app has become a real hidden gem to get me through some difficult times of late. Given money is tight, I’m incredibly grateful for the offerings available in my locality & the value for money received in each bag.
My first few attempts were unfortunately unsuccessful, as they were cancelled prior to the allocated pick up times. Nature of the game given how the magic bags work, all is forgiven, money returned ✌🏻
Yes it was disappointing at first, however I have been incredibly impressed & appreciatory of the Magic bags I’ve collected from my local grocery & convenience stores. Each bag cost around £4 in my experience & I received around £13-£15 worth of various meats, veg, ready meals & snacks.
Given my locality, there are generous offerings from food chains & pastry shops such as Starbucks, Pappa Johns, Creams, Auntie Ann’s pretzel’s etc however I’m yet to use the app for this yet 🤘🏻
Huge gratitude to all involved that make this happen.

This app is a great idea and I would happily give it 5 stars if it weren’t for the bad experience I have had with my first order. The fault isn’t with the app, but the retailer (an Italian Restaurant) was barely honest with the contents of the bag. I was expecting to receive fresh food not sold that day, but instead I received 4 biscuits that were months out of date and some chocolates. This particular restaurant seemed to be emptying their store room of out of date junk pushed to the back and forgotten until now. The bag was supposed to be worth £12 but I would struggle to value it at 50p, and certainly nowhere near the £4 charged. This experience means I am unlikely to use the app again and I can only recommend users to be aware of such scammy retailers. When Too God To Go can promise a certain minimum level of quality then I will try again and hopefully will increase my rating.

Brilliant!

We have collected a few ‘magic bags’, Morrisons, Starbucks, a couple of local businesses and Spar shops. The Spars have sometimes cancelled due to no availability- but always in good time. Everything has been amazing for the few pounds we have spent. We’ve just had a lovely meal from a local chippy for £2.00 each and would happily go back and pay full price. It would be really good for anyone on a tight budget. We live in the middle of nowhere and our choice is quite limited but I would imagine in a town or city you’d be spoilt for choice. Bearing in mind it’s leftovers people need to be open minded with what they get. We have batch cooked carrot and coriander soup as we got quite a lot of both from one bag and we’ll make broccoli and stilton soup tomorrow for the same reason.

I like the app but why on earth is there not a search facility to search for your favourite stores as it takes ages to set up a favourites list by going through every store listed in your area.(and keep having to redo it as new stores are added). Also I have visited several branches of one particular retailer and 2 were excellent and the others not worth bothering with. Some ask you if you have allergies and try to accommodate , and make sure a good variety of food - others don’t. Also some branches calculate cost of bags at original full price whereas others calculate using reduced to clear price so often you get more than double depending on which branch you use. Very disappointing visit to a cookie shop in a shopping mall recently when I received a small bag of broken biscuits all mixed together obviously calculated at individual cookie price so not worth it as could get a multipack of cookies for £2 more in perfect condition and select your favourites. Could’ve got twice the amount of perfect cookies for the same money at M&S so that was a very bad buy and wish I could’ve warned other customers not to waste their money.

Unfair 2-hour cancellation rule

The shops & restaurants can cancel customers’ orders shortly before their collection time, but the customer can only cancel their order 2 hours ahead, how is this fair?
I understand that shops & restaurants can run into unexpected situations that they don’t have as much surplus food as they expected, but customers can run into unexpected situations that they won’t be able to show up as planned as well.
I previously had orders that’s been cancelled by the restaurants within very short notice before the collection time, but today when I tried to cancel my order 40 mins BEFORE the scheduled collection time STARTED, the app wouldn’t let me. I also ring up the restaurant as asked if they can cancel my order on their side, but they told me they’re UNABLE to, which is SIMPLY NOT TRUE because my order has been cancelled before by the restaurants within even shorter notice.
How is it fair that the restaurants & shops have the privilege to cancel customers’ orders whenever they want while all customers have to strictly stick to the 2-hour rule?
I’ve been using this app for a while and I do love the app, my overall experience is about a 4-star with this app, but I rated it a 1-star just to get the developer’s attention, will edit my review if anything is done to change this unfair rule.

The idea is great, but the customer support solutions are rubbish.

Had an order that didn’t meet standards that came up to £6, short explanation is there was smelly chicken that was leaking (had to throw the bags away) complained about this to customer service and they gave me a £5 voucher to use again with them for the trouble (which is already strange and annoying because the original purchase was £6) but whatever… They didn’t explain properly that in order to use this voucher to its fullest, I could only purchase ONE to go bag that’s worth exactly £5, but they’re smart because I have yet to see a shop that offers a bag that’s £5 on the dot, meaning I could only really buy one that’s less with the voucher, and if I saw a bag I liked that costed more than 5, the voucher would not cover it. I realised this after I purchased a £2.59 bag, only to realise that the other half of the £2.41 had disappeared (back to them I guess) which honestly is weird because a typical voucher with other companies lets you spend the amount however you like and doesn’t limit you. My original plan was to possibly get another bag from the same place in the future and pay the extra 18p out of my account but obviously that couldn’t happen. Might I also add I had a friend that was directed to a shop that didn’t exist on the app (led him to a block of flats that didn’t answer the door), and when contacting customer support they didn’t do anything about it and lost his money (I witnessed this first hand)

The thing is right, some places like greggs for example give you your moneys worth and you are saving the food from going in the bin.
Some places use it as a way to get rid of stuff that would go in the bin if not, it reduced rubbish for THEM basically, but you are still doing your bit and stick it in the compose bin if not rather than a bin.
90% of the time we love what we get, and I would absolutely say it’s value for money. But some places like the spar and garages I’ve found give just rubbish in the bags, so those we chock up to a bit of a waste of money.
Either way we are saving food and we can compost it, or for example, we don’t really eat vegan food so if we get a greggs bag and inside there are vegan products or anything in general that we don’t like then we comment it on our local community page for free. Sometimes people take us up on the offer.

Revolutionary. Delicious. Excellent.

It’s an absolute brilliant idea to reduce waste not only that but it’s a cheap and a delicious way to get your favourite treats. Whilst my first time ordering got cancelled due to I assume a successful selling day for the business i had chosen; I did successfully and eventually acquire my second attempt at ordering.
Whilst there are plenty of choices in my area, not always do I see certain places with magic bags available and if there are, they sell out very fast so you have to be quick. You have to regularly check to see if anything is available however It’s good that this app doesn’t have notifications because I do think it could be exploited somehow by the same people constantly; it’s definitely a fast first come first serve but it’s fairer to do it this way.
So far just off my one order I’m pleased with what it has to offer. Whilst I might have got 3 of the same sandwiches it was beyond delicious I also had another sandwich and a cookie just for only £5! Value being £15 and I definitely think it’s value for money. I suppose each place could be different but so far I’m overall impressed by this app I just hope more businesses will join. Wouldn’t mind kfc end of the day bucket full of chicken 🤣.
Highly recommend this app but I also don’t want it to become too popular because that might mean less opportunities at great food at a great price. 😅

I got this app and didn’t use it a while until I did one day to see what it’s about.
I did wenzels for my first go and I got so much!! It was wayyyyy worth the £3.50. I had to give things to friends and family because there was just so much. But of course that’s not everytime but either way you get more than you would pay for at the shop itself.
It’s such a wonderful idea for food to not go to waste as it’s better for the environment and the companies as well as the moral value of not wasting edible food.
For those being angry at the app it’s not the apps problem if your magic bag has bad stuff in it, it’s the company you bought it from, and the whole point of this is to save food from the bin because companies can’t sell or give food away that’s past an expiry date or cooked on that day, even tho it is still completely safe and edible.
I’d highly recommend the app, other family members have started to use it because of my recommendations and it’s just a fun experience even if you do it once due to the surprise factor of not knowing what you’ll get, and it’s quite cheap for most places.

I absolutely love this app most of the time. I’ve had many great bags, especially from Morrisons and Costa. It’s a fabulous idea and I’d love to see more in my city!
However, some functions could be made much better. For example, adding in a typable review option alongside the rating so we can see what exactly customers have picked up. Also, personally it would be beneficial to set up an option to get notifications when your favourites go on sale, because avid users of the app often miss out despite being passionate about food waste because the bags come on at random times. It would also be helpful to remove shops who no longer post bags, because it makes feed messy with old content.

Love the idea but a 50/50 experience so far!

I live on my own so this is a great concept for me as I am quite happy to eat unusual combinations of food for a meal. I also hate how wasteful we are with food and have been buying from the reduced due to short date selections for a very long time, so this sounded a great idea to me!
I have only bought 2 bags so far and my first bag was amazing! 3 decent ready meals! ☺️ They all went out of date the next day but were all freezable except the dessert and I was happy to eat that a day out of date….brilliant and a bit of a bargain too.
My second bag was very disappointing sadly. 3 snack tubs of the same pasta that goes out of date 2 hrs after collection (10pm collection) and that had already been reduced to 94p and cannot be frozen, 2 sandwiches which had been reduced to 80p each (which both had salad so freezable but only after taking all the salad out) and some carrot sticks with humous snack pot which had been reduced to 45p. So I ended up paying £4 for goods that were for sale that day for £4.87. An 87p saving on items I can make little use of (will find out if the chickens like pasta tomorrow 🤷‍♀️) and would not have chosen plus the petrol to drive to pick up the food makes this bag actually expensive for what it is 😳
I will give the app another go but I do think the retailers should have some stronger guidelines on what the value on the day of the bag should be. I know it’s £4 but no one likes feeling ripped off.

I like this idea, sometimes we get some great bits and sometimes alright bits, I have often found that most of the food is out of date the same day I buy it, we will only keep it until the next day, if bread goes off, the birds get it, if the veg becomes risky it goes in my composter. I have found that when I get sandwiches they get eaten for supper. We often get a little treat of some sort, that gets eaten that minute. Sometimes what we get in the magic bag is just extra food that we wouldn’t normally buy and sometimes we get food that will supplement a meal. I has helped my regular food last at bit longer and often it hasn’t.
We do love to get a bag and see what is in it. We have tried some different bags from different types of shops to see what we might get. It is always worth a try. Don’t expect a meal from greggs but I would expect a treat or two.

A great idea but…

I love the idea of reducing food waste (and saving a few pennies along the way) but I was pretty disappointed with my first bag. It was from a local garage that has an M&S shop, so all the food was M&S (great!) but it was 10pm and all use by that day! So although we kept tomatoes and doughnuts, the spaghetti carbonara, chicken wrap and peppercorn sauce have all gone in the bin today because we weren’t sure if we could safely eat them the day after their use by (not best before) as they contained chicken, cream etc…. A great idea but a bit flawed - the company can probably now crow that they are saving carbon but in reality half has gone in someone’s home bin! Perhaps companies could be told to ensure they distribute the food before most people’s normal dinner time? Not many will make a meal at 10pm.

This is a fantastic app that I love and have had some really decent bits of food however, as a Vegan there just isn’t enough options. So when ordering a mystery bag you can get a heck load of meat and just have to take that gamble which is so unfortunate! I understand this may be down to stores but highly recommend it’s taken into consideration as I think they will sell like Hot cakes! If a restaurant offers vegan / veggie foods then there should be an option for a magic bag, yes there may not always be availability but there isn’t always with a regular bag.
I work with someone (meat eater) who bought a magic bag that was full of vegan bits and they threw it all in the bin so it just completely defeats the object! I know not everyone will do this but it’s certainly something to think about!
Still a great app but that’s why I haven’t given it 5 stars.

I was sceptical at first as I thought it would largely be iffy looking old food.... but I couldn’t be more wrong! Everything is really good quality often in date still just on the edge so the cafes and shops will not be able to legally sell it when they open the next day, but it’s still perfectly edible. Always get items worth at least double the value of the bag,
often much more. I used to work in a supermarket mainly restocking short date bakery items and I was always appalled by the sheer amount of food waste when we couldn’t sell stock before it’s use by date... so this is a really nifty solution!
The app is tidy and really easy to use, and the company send really useful tips and tricks by email so this is one I am happy to be on the mailing list for.

I’ve used this app to buy food from Costa Coffee, Greggs & Dobbies. At first it was quite good with a selection of different foods in the bags, then Costa gave me a bagful of which if I was having a party would have been great but we couldn’t even give them away b4 they were stale which kind of defeats the object, greggs did exactly the same 2 bags of nothing but cakes and finally Dobbies, I picked up 2 bags from them and as soon as I had hold of them I knew I’d been taken for a ride, it would have all easily fitted into one bag and what was in there was disgusting, dead herbs for a start, I could have paid the full price and got fresh stuff, I complained to the app and they were not too happy once they saw the list and photos of ‘food’ so they refunded me the price of one of the bags (thank you to them for that). Haven’t used the app since.

Food is a bit hit and miss - I’ve had some good meals and also paid £3 for a bag of bread rolls that were growing green mould the next day (collected at 4pm).
Last weekend I ordered and paid for a meal, waited until 9pm to eat, drove to collect it and found the shop closed. After knocking on the door I spoke to the manager who said they had been closed for refurbishment for 3 weeks and he had no idea why Too Good To Go had taken my order. I was left hungry when it was too late to buy from anywhere else on a Sunday night, and they had already taken my money.
The I sent a message to customer service to complain and have heard nothing - they did refund my money but I haven’t had a word of apology, explanation or even any kind of acknowledgment that I had my time wasted and was really messed about.
Not sure I’ll use this App again it seems to be more trouble than it’s worth.

I have had this app for a while but it’s took a few months to be able to obtain a “magic” bag, what a load of rubbish it was, it says on the post you get a mixture of meats bakery items eg cakes and bread fruit veg, all sounds really good.
So I finally get to reserve a bag at a local spar shop, got quite a big bag, me thinking nice one I’ve got a bargain here, back in the car, can’t wait to get home to see what there is,
Well opened the bag 24 wildlife tube yoghurts , out of date the same day, considering it was 8pm that day by the time I got it home, the kids ate a couple rest in the freezer not sure if you’re supposed to, I also got pate, a tub of single cream, 2 chocolate trifles(mini ones) 2 profiteroles and soggy tub of melons, all of these had already been reduced to between 20p and 90p and out of date that day and the last thing was 12 tiger rolls, reduced to 90p each 6 pack but were already 2 days out of date
The price was £3.09 for £10 + worth of food, all the reduced stuff was barely £6 at the most and I feel like I paid £3 to just got get a bag of stuff to put in my own bin instead of the spar shops bin, definitely would not be going there again, I see so many people get good stuff I feel conned I must say

This app is actually really good. A must have if you think yourself environmentally-minded. Easy to collect and no embarrassment. I just wish more shops would sign up as it’s a win-win for everyone.
I think some of the people leaving bad reviews are missing the point - if you’re expecting the exact same meal/ your favourite items you would buy from the place then of course you will be disappointed! The idea is that you buy (at a very reduced price) food that no one else wants in order to stop it going into landfill. And if you live in a village then don’t be surprised if there’s not as much going as in cities. Also, driving 100 miles to pick up a bag of food is not good for the environment, just check the app every now and then and stay local.

I used this app in Germany before and now after moving to UK I decided to try it out. Comparing to Germany I think in UK companies don’t really understand the concept properly. Feels like here they try to sell what they have for a bit better price.
In Germany it was different if you collect so called “Goody bag” it was goody bag pack of loads of different items. Everything what was left over and couldn’t be sold and would go to bin otherwise. Here in UK the goody bags are so much smaller and not necessarily items what they would otherwise bin or not able to sell.
But I think it’s a good start and I hope companies will actually understand what the purpose of the app.

I visited a yo!sushi store in Worcester on 2 occasions to be told they had no food left and they didn’t even notify us on both occasions. Asked TooGoodToGo if they would help the sending time around as we were out of pocket after x2 63 mile round trips to this store as there isn’t much choice in our area. We were told we could make another purchase and they would refund us which is really what we were expecting. We’ve given up with this, even more disappointing that they have offered compensation to someone who left a similar review on here with a similar experience so clearly not consistent with their customer service. Hardly saving the environment as they boast after making 2 long and wasted trips for nothing is it! Pretty terrible experience really in all honesty, it’s not worth the hassle it would be cheaper to just pay full price, the wasted food is their problem if they can’t fulfill their promises.

This was the first time using the app. I was a little worried about collecting. I thought I’d have to explain about the app. etc, but there was a really lovely, friendly girl at the door. I got my phone out to show her, but she immediately asked, “Is it Too Good To Go?” I said it was. She then said I had to register for the Track & Trace app. or if I preferred, that she would bring it to my car. She was so lovely. I should have got her name so I could tell her manager. The food was in a large plastic box with a clear lid, and had a generous selection of vegetables, roast potatoes and mash. I didn’t have to wait long. She asked before she went to get it if I had anything I didn’t like. I said “plenty of meat please, it’s for my son” She explained that you don’t get meat unless it’s the end of service, so I guess this means if there was a later collection time slot. All in all, a good experience and I would use this service again. Lovely customer service from the young lady on the door.

Living in a rural town there aren’t lots of options and more than 50% seems to be complete meals in my area rather than groceries, and I’ve yet to be able to access the grocery store, even following the instructions from the team who manage the app it seems impossible.
Additionally there is a ratings box, but you can’t drill down to get more information, so for example it might say 93% of customers rate this supplier three stars or more, but there’s no way to know if that’s all bar one customer rating 3 out of 5.
It’s a great concept but still needs a bit of work.
Just reduced my rating as I’ve been watching the magic bag for Morrison’s this evening and it went from sales ended at 18:17 (the previous days sales slot) to sales ended for today without there being a window in which I could even attempt to purchase. Deleting the app, life’s too short.

This app aims to address the huge waste issues that we have and gives the consumer a chance to support directly with retailers. I love the magic box concept, especially as someone often paralysed by the sheer choice of food on offer. Being given no choice is ironically sometimes the most liberating of experiences. The amount given in the box is often generous and retailers genuinely seem to appreciate the support reducing waste.
In terms of app design, there are some improvements to be made: namely, the home page should ideally be a default list of options of food according to locality and time so you get a quick scan of what’s on offer. It feels over complicated at the moment with too many options and repeated offers. That said, there are good search options but would prefer a simple default.
The other issue is being able to add a built in reminder beforehand and calendar event easily. Would be good to have that as an option immediately after ordering rather than just sharing via social media.
Overall, a great app that has led me to explore more of my local area and shops, making me more likely to try them out in the future.

Very disappointing first outing using this app. Paid for food at Bean at Princess Dock, Liverpool. Received email confirming purchase, all going well. Turn up on time only to be told no food left! Staff member was very apologetic but still a negative experience. And I’ve still not received a refund!
I don’t even know if this is normal practice? But if it is, it should be made clear on the website from the start.
Also, the whole idea is to reduce or recoup the carbon footprint. But in reality, it’s just made it worth, travelling to the city wasting fuel, then leaving to go find food somewhere else.
Further review:
Dated 4/3/20- Hello. Well this is the second time I’ve had this very disappointing experience in exactly the same place. As such I won’t use the company Bean again. I also couldn’t find anywhere in your help centre, FAQ’s etc that states that on occasion (or more often than not) eateries can run out of food and it’s just plain tough. I feel by not mentioning this anywhere in the app, you are giving your customers a very poor experience and not enabling them to make fact based decisions as to wether they place an order or not. I had to travel (once again) some distance to collect my non existent order which, meant the carbon footprint left by my vehicle did not help to save the environment or prevent waste. Your thoughts would be welcomed...again.

I originally downloaded this some time ago, it was up and coming and very little uptake on the restaurants, one sushi place if I remember rightly so didn’t get to use it.
I saw an advert this week and thought I’d give it another go. Very disappointed to see that there’s not many more to choose from in a city with over 800 eating establishments. Of the 10 or so listed, so far there’s only been 1 hotel and 2 Greene King pubs available, all the others say sold out but it says that all the time and the sold out time never changes so I very much doubt they were offering anything to begin with.
I can’t believe in a city that thrives on it’s dining scene that only two companies are actually offering food. I’d like to think if they aren’t using this idea they are instead giving it away to homeless shelters. It’s a great concept but disappointed in the uptake.

Brilliant app

Had my first “magic bag” last weekend. Loads of delicious food for a very small amount of money.
Only negative was that the collection time slot moved to 30 minutes earlier than originally set by the business within 40 minutes of the original collection time(was meant to collect at 8:30-9:00 pm update came in at 7:50 pm that the collection time was now 8:00-8:30 pm). So it ended up being a rush to get to the place on time. Improvements I would suggest is making the collection time change option longer. As people prepay it’s not always possible to just drop everything with 10 minutes notice.
Another thing I would really like is the option to setup my own alerts, e.g. if any of my “favourites” become available so I don’t have to check the app constantly.

Outstanding!

Used the app for the first time today and was amazed. It’s simple to use and navigate around. Unfortunately I live in a smaller town so there are very few restaurants or cafes signed up to the app, however, I knew this was likely before downloading the app. I’m happy to say that one of the local stores that has signed up is a very popular bakery. I choose to purchase one of their ‘magic bags’ today. After reading the reviews, I was aware that the contents of a bag could be pleasing or disappointing, depending on the store. I therefore kept my expectations realistic and thought it would contain a sandwich or perhaps a croissant or two. Boy, was I wrong! I left the bakery carrying two bags containing two sandwich croissants, a sourdough and prosciutto sandwich, half a filled baguette, a cinnamon and raisin swirl, a bagel, a focaccia loaf, two farmhouse loaves and eight seeded rolls! All for just £3! I will definitely be using the app often and happily!

Good idea in theory, but flawed

Just got the app really so I don’t have much to say about my own experience, but one of the first things I noticed is that you are very much at the whim of your location. For me, there is nothing in my immediate vicinity and I would have to go to the next town over just to get to the nearest place on the app. The town isn’t usually too far but even by car it’s at least 15 minutes away and I don’t drive to begin with. I don’t know about anyone else but I’m not hopping on a train just for to pick up a bag of mystery groceries.
As for some of the other reviews I’ve seen there’s a few other problems that are an issue, namely the places just exploiting it as an opportunity to make more money from offloading the unappealing stuff which would otherwise be thrown out. I get that we’re not paying store price for this stuff and that it’s the stuff that hasn’t sold at the end of the day, but still, bit of a dick move to give someone a stale muffin that nobody wants and then make them pay too much for it.
They could show a picture of it so that we get to see if we’d actually be willing to pay the stated price for the item, either that or maybe temper the price by quality.

Fantastic!!!⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I’ve been using this app for about three weeks now and I’ve tried several different shops and cafes in different locations. I can’t fault the app-it’s really easy to navigate and the food has been great.
I live very close to several coffee shops and restaurants-the down side to this is that I mostly stick to the same places when I’m out and about. With this app I’ve been able to try lots of new places and discover and support local businesses I didn’t even know existed!
I’ve picked up bags of food and desserts to the value of £15-£20 for under £5! I’ve only had one bag that I didn’t think was that great-it was a boxed up meal from local shop which I thought was quite small. When I asked what was inside they just said it’s vegetarian-but it tasted really good and the staff were very friendly. I’ve mostly used bakeries and coffee shops so I get lots of pastries bread and fancy sandwiches which is great for a family on the go.
In terms of developing the app-I would like to have the option to take my own packaging and inform the shops that I will be doing this. The app does state that you can take your own Tupperware but the shops have often already boxed and bagged everything up when I arrive.

Waste of time

I used the app for the first time today and was really excited that my local big budgens store is selling bakery and veg/fruit bags. Ordered 2 bags £1.99 each. Walked more than a mile at night and store had no idea what I am talking about. Another girl had the same problem. Manager came and she had no idea what we want and never heard about the app. So wasted my time, paid £4 not to mention walking at night. And even then app was saying that bags are available for collection and you still could buy them. And sent me invoices for my purchase like I collected products.
Why you advertise that there is 3 bags available if store manager says that she never heard of it and has nothing going out of date? More communication would be great. Thank god I didn’t choose a restaurant 3 miles away
Update: why it shows that I rated it 5* if I gave 1*?!!!

‘Magic’ bag = rubbish bag

I tried purchasing a ‘magic bag’ from a high end bakery: 3 very miniature, dry and squashed cupcakes in a tiny box and a little bag of praline Easter eggs (3 weeks after Easter). No one would ever cough up 3 pounds for this literal rubbish, nor bother to pick it up.
This app is such a good premise in theory, but by the sound of some of the reviews and my own experience, I suspect some vendors are using this as a way of getting rid of stock they are failing to sell, as opposed to stock that is desirable but won’t keep. And they seem to sell it at a higher price than they’d get if the goods were on display in their shop. So much for shops wanting to reduce waste... only as long as they can profit from their rubbish! This is only based on one try - but Im now highly sceptical and don’t fancy being ripped off again.
The fact that shops don’t have to describe or photograph what they’re giving away is a huge flaw in this app, as is the fact that you can’t leave reviews and ratings.

Great idea , needs improvements on the app

First of all, I want to say that the app is for such a good cause. I have downloaded it a week ago and have used it a few times, and each time has been a good for me, hence the 5 star rating.
Some feedback for the app that I think that would benefit the experience:
- Leaving reviews on different stores, I have had some varying customer service and quality of food given. Informative reviews such as images of food given to give an idea of food etc and not complaints to the company.
- More of a description of the restaurant, such as images of what they do, sometimes I am skeptical to order from a store as I don’t know what they offer. I know that it is a “goody bag” but an idea of what to expect would be nice.
- Option to categorise foods according to restaurant type. Etc Japanese food within Xkm to my area. Sometimes I would like to have a certain type of food on the day and would not mind travelling to a certain stop on the way.
- Not something that you can really change on the app, but sometimes the staff of the restaurant have no idea about the app, so it can be quite awkward to collect. Maybe more awareness could be made for it ?

Really misleading

I can't speak for all food places but can only imagine the same or similar repeating elsewhere.
A burger shop (Bunk Burgers) described 'wings and burgers' that you could rescue. Wings being a side this clearly indicated to me that I get a burger as well as wings - great! I go to the shop and they hand me the tied up bag which I returned home with only to find I was only given wings. No burger at all.
It looks like shops are advertising all their best this things then giving the cheapest items they can get away with.
Part of the Too Good To Go concept is that you get no choice or say in what you're given. That's understandable if it's only leftover food that'll go to waste but not reasonable if you go home with sides everytime you order a dinner.
I don't even think those wings would have gone to waste - they were made fresh when I went in. The price I was charged is almost the usual price considering it was just wings. To them it's just another deliveroo or just eat style order. Quite misleading.
---
Update: The Too Good To Go customer service has refunded this purchase. I can't fault the service received from them. Will try again perhaps with a different restaurant and maybe it'll be a different experience. Changed to 5 stars for now.

Brilliant.

This app is brilliant and good for people on low budgets who like to eat out and try different places but can't afford to. We have so far only used it once and that was with a pastry shop. They give you a set time when you have to go with your bag and then they fill it up with what ever is left over and not sold during the day. We got fresh bread, cheese rolls, pastries and a fresh bread stick and they would last a couple of days and are still very fresh when you take them home even more fresh then the sandwiches that I have brought from supermarkets. I highly recommend people to take a look and give it a try. The only tip I have is you need to check early each day to get the best places or they sell out.
