This is the iStation app you need

This is a fantastic app for keeping track of your most used stations and favourite journeys. It can set alerts for individual legs of the journey to let you know in real time any changes or delays that occur. Even notifies your Apple watch if you have one. Didn't think I would use the alerts as much as I have but once I got the hang of them it's great seeing where your outgoing train is sitting for the next leg of a journey as you pull into the station. A single click of a button can put every leg of the journey straight into your calendar as a set of events if desired. The overall design has been very well thought out. I've had 3 questions for the developer while getting the hang of it and these were answered clearly & quickly so has earned it's 5 stars I think.

Unreliable data

App is clean to use but it very often displays incorrect data including misinformation on trains. Trains cancelled hey app states it’s en route. Station platforms are very often wrong meaning easy to kiss trains if you rely on this app

ability to favourite trains

i love this app! it helps me get to school everyday and is way better than any other app i've used. one thing i'd like is the ability to favourite trains, for exampe if you favourited the strawberry hill train, above the favourite stations it would show when the next strawberry hill train is at the station you favourited it at. this would be really helpful and shave off a few essential seconds between knowing i need to sprint or knowing i can walk.

Decent app

As I live in the great commuter belt beyond London a train app is a basic daily necessity. I want one which is reliable, straightforward and smart. This is close - the red colour scheme is a bit garish but otherwise the app is pleasantly professional. Switching between arrivals and departures for a station is stupidly unintuitive (click departures to go to arrivals!) but that is the main interface gripe. I preferred “train times” (no longer supported) but this seems to be the best alternative currently

Useful app

The app is very useful. It gives you real live times of the trains and being able to track your train is a good feature on this app to see where your train is currently at. I like how it tells you how many carriages the train has got for each service. However, my only concern is that on the live timetables for each service, it doesn’t show all the train carriages for each service. For some services with few train providers, it shows how many carriages the train consist off. And then for some services with some train providers, it does not show how many carriages the train consist of. Overall, a useful app.

Great app

This is my go-to train times and alerts app on both the iPhone and the Apple Watch. My only criticism is that the red text advising of delays or cancellations is hard or impossible to read on the Apple Watch at nighttime while walking, when the screen brightness is automatically turned down. This should perhaps be changed to a more white-ish red to make it readable. Other than that, a terrific app!

Train to Taxi

This app helps me incredibly as it enables me to run in sync with my customers. I’m a one man band Taxi . I have customers who could be travelling for upto 6 hrs. Living in south Devon the trains can get delayed badly for various reasons.
It’s amazing to be able to adjust my runs so I do not have to hang around waiting.
From the customers point of view I’m always on time for them regardless of delays.
I have even on occasions been able to keep customers informed as to why they are delayed and when they are due to arrive.
On one occasion a client rang me because he knows I can access this account so I was able to keep him informed to his progress.

Watch

Why can we not touch on the train we want on the watch and see the position of the train like the main app.
Don’t like you pricing structure. To get rid of apps etc. I bought uk train times and paid for it of which this app is a copy.
That cost £5.99 and now it does not work.
Can we please have a refresh button at the bottom of the screen. If your watching a trains progress you have to keep scrolling the screen to the top to refreshed this is really annoying.

Used for a while and the UX still winds me up

Please please please get a UX designer to look at this app. The functionality is all there but the placement of buttons and navigation frequently has me clicking buttons that don’t do what I expected.

2019-09-20

Not live data

I’m assuming that this pulls data from train companies or national rail. The problem is that their websites are not live data feeds. I’m standing at East Croydon, where the board is showing that my train is delayed but this app and alert is saying that the train is on time
Edit: changed to 1 star. Data is inaccurate. Showed my train having departed Gatwick when in fact it hadn’t left and instead it left late. No better than that free national rail website data.

It crashes when I ask for ‘calling points’ on a journey.

It crashes
erdftgyh
2019-09-11

Ok but frustrating

The layout of the buttons if you try to plan a journey is alternating top and bottom of the screen so if you are holding the phone with one hand it makes it really tricky to navigate.
Also, when you click in calling points you can never see where the train actually is.
I’m trying to add/remove favourites and it the star is greyed so cant be selected.
Can’t look at trains that left in the past (i.e. I get on a train and want to know what time will it arrive)
Could be so much better....

Great - until it splits out spurious nonsense

As a long time commuter- general a good app.
However occasionally splits out spurious nonsense - eg London Bridge to Abbey Wood at 0838 - never uses platform 2 or 3. I found out it leaves platform 4 - so panicky running about thanks to this app.
Also Reduced functionality in recent versions - eg journey info only showing dep station to arrival station, rather than entire route.

Much Better

I’m changing my review from 1 to 4 stars; as the crash that crippled the app has been swiftly fixed by the developers. Thanks guys! It’s once again a very useful and reliable app. Gives me all the information I need and I use it every day. I would give it five stars if the UI was tweaked slightly; the orange colour isn’t very appealing, given National Rail are blue I think this would be better suited. Also I don’t like the fact you have to pay a monthly subscription; the previous incarnation of this app (Train Times) had the offer to pay £5 and remove the adds. That’s all I want to do. I don’t want to pay every month when I won’t use the alerts and other extras offered by the subscription. If the developer added a “pay to remove adds only” option and made the UI slicker this would easily be the best UK train app on the market. Fingers crossed for these updates soon!

Needs tweaking

As another reviewer (Stonymallard) has stated this app is similar to an old app that no longer functions. The one function I would like is to track a train that is already on its journey. You could go back in time by clicking earlier trains on the same route and then see where the train is. It’s possible to do this if you previously planned for that journey and time but not as a new planned journey in this new app. It has been disabled.

Perfect for what I need

Perfect app for what I need. I especially like the fact you get notified about your train times. Continue to add new features and you’ll continue to get a paid subscription from me.

Good; few additions for five stars...

Really appreciate this app & its good interface and functionality, given a certain other app is no longer supported and doesn’t fully work anymore. I also like the fact that it has a very useable Apple Watch app (unlike the National Rail watch app, which is abysmal), which shows every stop on the selected train.
I’d love to see a few additional features:
Being able to see all calling points for a selected train; you currently only get this once the train has departed, otherwise it only shows between your selected stations, but would be good to always see this.
Following on from the above, being able to pin a selected train (with its full calling points), which would then show on the Trains screen (as well as or instead of the Recently Viewed Trains, which I wouldn’t miss).
I’ve noticed when adding to calendar (with a note), you can’t cancel, and have to carry on adding it and then go into your calendar to delete it.
Purely aesthetic, but option of a blue on white colour scheme instead of the red on white (and/or a dark theme).
Otherwise, already great stuff!

My New Favourite Train App

This app does everything I would want it to: I have regular journeys saved both as live time updates and as journey planners for future trips. It also allows you to export trips to the native calendar on your phone. It also has an iPad version. Perfect! Worth spending 74p a month for

Finally

I have used numerous apps to get train times over the years, finally I have found one that doesn’t disappoint or let me down. I’m really pleased with it - worth every penny of the small annual fee.

2019-04-08

The best train app

This is easily the most coherent and simple train timetabling app to use. You can store favourite stations and favourite roots with the ability to re-order them to suit you. The train alerts are well worth the subscription if you are a regular traveller.

2019-04-07

Sometimes frustrating and not worth paying twice

I agree with Jaguarstr’s comment about the pricing. I too purchased the Train Times UK app some years ago and never had an issue with it. Used it daily without issue. One update changed it to this one and suddenly it’s regressed...AND you want to charge me again?
Plus it constantly won’t load - to the point where after a few retry attempts I usually just give up. It may be the NR feed but if that’s a key feature of the app you should working with them to ensure your users get value from your app.
I would say you’re basic, but part of the time you don’t even reach that level.

The Free bit is fine

I’m trying to wean myself off the old Train Times app in case that ceases one day soon. I think I paid £5+ for it 9 years ago.
I’m not convinced by anything on offer in this new app. I don’t like subscriptions. I’m a regular commuter but at irregular times so I’d need around 50 alerts per year due to all the different trains I get.
I’d like to get rid of the ads for a one off fee, say £5, but that’s not on offer. 79p of course is £9.49 PER YEAR. I appreciate the developer should be rewarded for the product but with the high cost of UK rail fares I think an annual subscription of a tenner is too much.

Frustrating problems

I was so excited when I read the other reviews to see that this could replace the old ‘blue’ system that everyone was referring too, but I’ve found this app highly frustrating. Here are a couple of the glitches that I’d love to be fixed before I’d buy it.
Find trains screen:
- The icon for swapping the departure and arrival destination feels a matter of luck. Mostly it just opens up the station option.
- The date/time selection carousel doesn’t show properly, with the actual time I’m choosing (I think) hidden under a favourites button, but it may be lower down. This makes selecting the time I want to leave or arrive by a matter of luck.
Thanks.

Good app - must for train users

Like many, got this when Agant app suddenly stopped working -one must have carried on longer than most as by time I found this app most things complained about in the reviews seem to have been added, so well done developers for listening to reviews.
Would be 5 stars but for the life of me I cannot switch off annoying alerts when have pinned a train ( or unpin it) - and cannot post a support request , only search the database . So every day I get alerts for a train I have taken once!

Better than national rail

This is a great app, and significantly better than the dismal National Rail app, can't say fairer than free!
As others have pointed out, it's very similar to the old Train Times app from Agant, so if you had that and now it's broken, get this and it will do what you need.
On the downside, the UI of this app could do with a little work. Font sizes and colours could do with tweaking (e.g. ditch the navbar large titles) to increase the focus on the content. Tab icons are inconsistently sized too. Scroll insets aren't correct so content is clipped on a few screens.
I hate ads so it'd be nice to have a paid version which just removes the ads for a single flat fee - ie. Not a subscription and wouldn't offer any push alerts etc.

Good successor to UK Train Times

Now the excellent UK Train Times is on its last legs, it’s good to see this app come to fruition. That said, it’s got some way to go, mainly in the quality of UI.
Not that I agree with ripping off others’ work – but seeing as this app is pretty much a carbon copy anyways – it would pay the developer to take a look at Agant’s app again and replicate the finer design details (particularly in the use of grey to contrast). It’s years old now but nearly perfect in terms of interface, whereas this new version isn’t nearly as good.
That also goes for the app icon too, the white/red is a bit weird and cheap looking.

Excellent App

I love this app, it helps make sure I get to whichever platform I need to get my next train home.
The only other addition I’d like, is the ability to have 3D Touch display the next train home rather than the departure board. This way you’d know which platform and what time to get your next train

Cluttered, but good info.

Got this to replace the previous version that doesn’t work anymore.
User interface is cluttered and clumsy. Could do with a bit of work around reducing the number of button presses and screens to make it simpler.
Information provided is as per previous app, which downloaded the data quicker. Do the ads slow down the downloads?

A bug and request

I seem to get a bug when looking at the progress of my journey via the departures board section. If I keep an eye on the progress of the journey I’m on, it sometimes says that we have departed a station that we haven’t even arrived at yet. A request - add a complication to Apple Watch please.
Nice app tho, thanks

2019-01-21

Useful but some omissions

This seems to be a direct copy of the Train Times app however with less usability. Clicking on the calling points of your journey only shows from your station so you cannot see where your train current is; this is particularly annoying when trying to make a connection. Departure times for stations shows a limited number of departures so at busy stations your train may not be listed.

Watch app prompts to launch on phone each day

Got this app to get train times quickly on my Apple Watch, first train I catch each day is often a rush but the watch always tells me I need to launch on the phone first to add favourites, sort of defeats the object as may as well just use on the phone. This is only the first launch a day, but that is the most critical, please fix this.
Also drill to station stops on watch like the phone would be nice.
Mr Zippy
2019-01-18

Now the Agant app no longer works this is the next best

I agree with the previous reviewer that this is like the Agant app but missing a couple of really useful things. In addition to those mentioned it would be very useful to be able to select ‘all stations’ as there are a number of places that have several stations and if you could choose ‘all stations’ you could work out the best journey rather than going through all individually. Also I would prefer to pay for a version of this with no ads.
Other than that the interface and design is far better than National Rail and the various other train apps.

Good app

Does what it says. Would be nice that when planning a journey the focus went to the input box so you can start typing straight away, as it is you have to click in the box to get the keyboard to appear. Could be a clicker process.

I got this to replace the old train times app, just installed on new IPhone XR, but it’s completely non functional. Opens up but can’t load any stations or boards. I got a error message as SSL - have looked at FAQ and similar but no help at all.
Fix this and it could be a five star.

Excellent & highly functinonal

Love the Apple Watch app, I think this is one of the only apps on the AppStore that can display train times on the watch as fast as this. I’d really love to see minutes remaining on each train however as that would make it that much more useful. Highly recommended otherwise.

Brilliant

Been using the useless official national rail enquiries app for years, with its iPhone 4 screen size and confusing menus.
Found this by chance and it’s brilliant. It’s quick, accurate and finds journeys almost instantly and the live departure board is brilliant as I can see what platform I need to be on.
Whoever made this app - I salute you 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Reincarnation of brilliant app but needs work

As noted by other reviewers, this app appears to be a reincarnation of the old (blue) National Rail/UK Train Times app. Its predecessor had been my app of choice on an ancient iPhone 4S for many years. Its simplicity and ease of use was simply unbeatable. Now I have a new iPhone, I have downloaded this app, and it is more or less the same except for a couple of important, and frustrating, differences:
1. There is no platform information on the ‘Plan a Journey’ search. This is madness! This is an incredibly important piece of information which you can see on Departures but not when planning a journey. It’s also something pretty much every other app manages to do. Please bring this back!
2. When searching through ‘Plan a Journey’, you used to be able to see all the calling points from the train’s departure point to its terminus. Now you only get the calling points between the two stations you searched for. This is very frustrating.
Please make these changes but, otherwise, keep up the good work!

Classic design

I like this - as others have said, almost identical to the original National Rail app that hasn’t really been matched in terms of simplicity. One suggestion though, could the departure boards be longer? I’m at Clapham Junction on a Sunday with a much reduced service and the departures don’t even get 15 minutes ahead!

Please add early train and later train time

This is the best train app, only one thing to the developer, for live train departure time for a train station, sometime we want to see early time or later times, please add this function we that we can load early train or later train time. Cheers!

Makes commuting bearable

This app saves me a lot of time and effort planning and monitoring my commute. I particularly enjoy the ability to receive push notifications in advance of a departure to let me know the status of the train (paid feature but worth it when trains are so often cancelled or delayed). Highly recommended.

Good but.........

In my opinion this is the best of the train times apps (when it works) - which to be fair is most of the time, but it’s a pain when it doesn’t work (always claiming issues with the data provider) and when you’ve paid for the extra monthly subscription!!

The best train times app

I’ve been a loyal user of ‘Train Times’ by Agant for many years, and have tried many alternatives, but none have ever stuck. Upon receiving my iPhone X though, given Agant seems to be no more, it seems I would forever be stuck with the black bars.
Happy days though, as it seems this app is nearly identical, and even has the same name. Maybe you bought the IP, or simply recreated it with a few new features.
Basically this app is great, but would be even better if:
- the icon was blue rather than red
- you could refresh the progress of a train even after its departed (to check its running on time if I’m sat on it)
Keep up the good work!

One of the best Apps but could be better

This app has exactly the same name as an app by Agant Systems that leaves me wondering if Dorada purchased or otherwise acquired the app from Agant. It is poorer in a couple of aspects than the old app which I suspect may no longer be available. Firstly on the old app you could tap the station at which a train split and see details of where the other half was going while new app only warns you that the train will split. Secondly on the old app you could specify a via station for planning which this app does not appear to do. If you want it to be better than the old app then the National Rail app permits, in planning, specification of via / avoid / change at / don’t change at (which I found useful recently). The interface on this app is far superior to the National Rail app which is clunky and feels more responsive than it. One feature that is great is ability to select a station that train is calling at and see its departure board.

Well Done!

Great app and easy to use! Also the added bonus of showing why the train was delayed/cancelled. My suggestion would be to create an underground mode where you can view underground trains. Otherwise this is a really good app :)

Easy to use

An app that does what it says, easy to find the information you need quick and simply. Live arrival and departure boards from your local train station, very helpful in the mornings
