Last update issue
Since the last update, I only seem to record silence. My last recording I made was an interview with someone and I got nothing.

The app keeps crashing and I can’t access my recording data in the app anymore. No way to contact your technical team either. Please fix!

VoiceOver accessibility issues
Was really enjoying this app until recently. Since I’ve updated to iOS 15.2, the app is extremely unresponsive. When using VoiceOver, when you double tap on the buttons it does not work as expected. The app has dramatically slowed down as well. I’m using the RØDE Microphones - SC6-L Mobile Interview Kit and I hope that there is an update very soon to fix this issue.

This version failed to complete the suggested firmware update via the app, rendering the I-XLR useless!!

V 1.1.16 has added a limiter you can’t switch off
This was my favourite iOS recording app until this update. I would use it to instruct remote podcasts guests with a mailout TRRS Lav mic to record themselves. However the latest update has made the manual gain control when using external mics way too hot, I’m having to turn my deity v.lav down to zero gain and at that setting the app has introduced a brickwall limiter at -12dB which looks fine until you listen to the audio afterwards, lots of clipping and distortion. Hopefully they can fix this and it’s not an ‘intentional’ ‘improvement’ because there’s no way I can rely on this in its current state.

Needs fine tuning
This app is good, but one thing I have a huge problem with is the delete icon being just under the play button. When I record audio out in the cold or if my fingers are shaky it’s way too easy to delete the audio recordings when you try to play them back. It needs either a ‘recently deleted’ section or an ‘are you sure you want to delete this file?’ prompt. I can’t seem to send feedback via the Rode website either.

Glitches of sound recording, sometimes
I am using this app with Rode smartLav+ and iPhone XR, in 10 clips of voice recordings, there were one or two I had to record again, due to the file has glitches. Not sure why, but now switch back to iPhone build-in voice memos app instead.

Useful app
Good app to record high quality files from Smartlav+. One thing I’ve noticed, though, is that it doesn’t delete files saved. “Deleted” files disappear from the apps library but, if you go to Settings and check phone storage, the files are still present. You can’t use them, but they still seem to take up space. It does appear, though, that you can delete them from there.

Good App
Used this to record audio to sync with video. Record in wav format with Rode smartlav+ and it produced really nice clean audio. Simple to use. Transfer to PC simple using iTunes, selecting device and then file sharing just drag a drop audio into target folder ready to use on pc in video editor.

Despite claiming that it supports 96k with an external mic there appears to be no way to configure it. Deleted.

Don’t bother
It used to work fine .. for the last month it’s not worked correctly .. after you finish recording the app just closes and what ever you recorded doesn’t save 😫🤦🏼♂️

Good but not enough
Would be great to update the layout so would be easier to operate on newer phones. Also a voice feedback in wireless headphones would be great, right now just cuts of all playback but sends nothing to monitor...
All in all alright.

Useless
I was looking for a simple podcast solution. Two rode lavaliers and sc6-l adapter. Tried it with the app and my iPhone XR - horrible distortion every 10-15 secs rendering this solution totally unfit for purpose. Totally useful and a very poor show from rode. This is my third and last “experiment” with rode products. I recommend everyone to steer clear of this flakey workmanship. A complete waste of money and should be sued.

It’s great... it could be perfect.
This app is absolutely brilliant at recording high quality audio in a decent amount of formats and at being so simple to use that it doesn’t distract the user from their task.
However.......
The developer is slow to produce the updates to deal with new hardware/device and iOS compatibility issues. So if you have a version that works for you, don’t be in a hurry to update for the sake of updating.
For a reason only known by the developers, a very simple app requires an unusually high level of iOS and iDevices. Is there a really good reason why this can’t function on iPads 2, 3, 4, iPad mini 1, iPhone 4S, 5 and 5c, iPod 5?
The play button is far too close to the delete button. Very easy to make a mistake. This button should be moved.
It needs a multiple file select delete facility that allows you to play files without resetting the list of files already selected for deletion.
The app would benefit from a symbol on each file so that the noting of important or favourite files is quickly achieved.
It needs a Bulk export into other app facility for quickly archiving files you want to keep. Into apps like AudioShare or AudioCopy.
It crashes in some usage combinations.
The app should be marketed more generally in the App Store as you can’t generally find it unless you specifically look for it. It is brilliant to get music ideas down super quick and simple.
If the developers were to address these issues, this app would be even better than it already is and it would be used by more people.
For a free app, it is great ..... but it could be the benchmark.

iPhone XS Max intermittent noise
I’ve just bought a Rode SC6-L Interview kit and got this app as it’s the recommended one. Recording 2 voices, it’s super clear but every 10 seconds or so there’s a crackle that lasts for a second or so. It sounds a bit like the distortion you get if the input gain is too high on a desk. In this case it doesn’t matter whether the voice is loud or quiet. So I’ve tried three other apps and the recordings are great - which is a relief as I can now check out the hardware for its intended purpose. As it stands the app is unusable. I’ve mentioned the iPhone model (XSMax) as someone on Rode’s site said it didn’t work with an iPhone XR. I wonder if it’s the app in that case too.

Bit flaky.
Sadly disappointed with this. Doesn’t always recognise the smartlav. Need to plug in and out when using with video app. Crashes when I try to delete recordings and doesn’t delete them from phone if they are deleted from iTunes. Had hoped it would just work like most other Rode things do.

So pleased I found this.
I shoot video now and then for work and I wanted to find a cheap way to connect lav mics to my subjects. This app was perfect and I use it all the time.
*** My top tip ***
Don’t press record and then connect the lav mic after because it will stop your recording.

Great for vlogging with external audio
I have a new Canon G8X MkII which has no external mike input. Using my Røde SuperLav+ or VideoMic ME and my iPhone I can record external audio and sync it in LumaFusion when the camera mic is too far away or there is too much noise.

Useful but needs refinement
Nice user interface, and easy to use, even with long recordings; let down by a few issues:
- Crashes if you change recording in the library whilst playing.
- Continues playing a recording after you press delete, and the track has gone, so no way to stop it except quitting.
- Library: move the delete button away from the play button; easy to hit the wrong thing.
- Bulk export of all your recordings isn't easy and doesn't seem to work with iCloud.
- Would be useful to know how much space you have left, in terms of minutes of audio.

This is actually a good little app for recording on the move. The quality is good enough for broadcast and youtube use.

The Smart-Lav still doesn't work! So frustrating and RODE never reply back. Left with a useless product.

Simple and great
Just used this first with inbuilt iPhone microphone to record a quick band rehearsal last night. One touch and it's recording! Worked flawlessly - no unnecessary bells and whistles. So useful to be able to record directly as MP3 too (it sounds so much better than the voice memos app) and so just email everyone a copy straight away. And it can record lossless WAV too. Excellent.
