The wind speed is so much easier to see on the BBC. It would be better if you didn’t have to scroll down to see it (there’s a Met office banner in the way stopping you from seeing temperature alongside wind speed. Also if there was a way of more easily identifying stronger wind speeds E.g using a different colour as the speed increases or highlighting it somehow.
However I find Met office more accurate.

More accurate forecasts than many others. Have had to reinstall a couple of times when it stopped working but have used it for years. A real shame that you can’t save the forecast if you know you are going to be without a signal for a long time because without a signal the forecast is lost after a day or so - an old forecast is better than none at all.

Version 2.35.0
In my experience this app provides more accurate forecasts than the default app. However, the app design is not fantastic. You cannot simply open it and see all information about local weather – you must instead open up your current location to do that. Similarly the widget is not particularly useful, and is not configurable at all. I would like to see windspeed on the widget and there is no option to have this.
Also,I get frequent weather warnings for things like "It might be a bit windy" or "It might be a bit cold". These are called yellow weather warnings, and they desensitise you to the more important amber (and presumably red) weather warnings. You can't choose a sensible warning level. All or nothing.
I'm on the lookout for a better app that uses met office data.

So contradictory. The app will tell you it’s not due to rain, yet you look out the window and it’s pouring down! On the other hand, it tells you it’s going to rain at say 1pm, and it’s blue skies, but then rains later in the day when it says it’s dry. Better off sticking with the apple weather app!

Some days the forecast is remarkably accurate but on others it’s utterly abysmal. It’s also of concern that a forecast given 48 hours earlier can, the night before the day in question, be changed completely before then reverting to the original forecast the next morning. To say the least this does not help one to plan ahead.

Version 2.34.2
From the MET office app we get a trusted weather forecast. There are many weather apps available. But I have found that from the Met Office I get a more correct idea of what to expect. We can’t expect perfection as the weather fronts are affected by many hidden variables. Even with modern technology and AI it is not at all possible to be 100% correct 100% of the time. But The Met Office is nearer than any other app I’ve tested for a while. Honestly now I only use the Met Office app and have trusted it when travelling through Europe, Australia and North America. I have found it as accurate as local weather agencies, even though it says it’s only for the United Kingdom accurate.

Serious Problem with the App now

 –
Southampton Reviewer
 –
2023-12-28
Apart from the fact the the newest version of the app still has disparity between the radar and the symbols and the radar no longer updates every 10 minutes which is annoying, the major problem I have now is that there is a serious fault meaning the app isn’t loading properly with flashing icons and jumping all over the place, not smooth at all. I’ve tried de-installing and re-installing and it’s ok for a little while but then the fault starts again. It’s since I changed to an iPhone 15 so maybe there is a compatibility issue. No problems with other apps

Not accurate

 –
Johnson46374
 –
2023-12-07
This should be a great app and has some great information. However if you can eventually get the app to load, having had to close all your other apps and made several attempts to open it till it eventually loads the data, it’s inaccurate. When it comes to rain, you are better off looking out the window. You can be stood in pouring rain and the app says 5% chance of rain. The temperature is always out by at least +/-2 which makes a huge difference if its zero degrees and you have outdoor animals/livestock. Is it gonna be 2 degrees or -2. You are better off looking at the feels like to get a better idea. What baffles me is that other apps are more accurate. I mean, this is the Met Office….
A good point is I find the wind accurate. i also like the sunrise and sumset as well so I know what to do with the horses and when. On occasion it can be bang on correct, but not regularly enough to trust it, Overall the app struggles to load and its a general forecast which struggles to predict rain and temp.

Works consistently well. The radar maps are brilliant

 –
WoznS
 –
2023-11-04
I’ve never seen a hiccup with this app. It’s hard to forecast uk weather due to the spotty rain showers. The radar maps show the entire story needed to plan for the short to mid term weather.
I’d like to see the interval between radar snapshots halved so a more immediate view can be seen; planning a dash between shops would be so much easier. And the forecast videos are great, but far too sparse. However, these are minor grumbles for a great app overall.

tries too hard

 –
Kipya Mitzov
 –
2023-08-18
The problem with the weather forecast is that it is inaccurate. It tries to separate areas which are too close together and updates frequently. A prediction of >5% rain is contradicted by a heavy downpour, and similarly a forecast of heavy rain is simply dry. The forecast can change many times during the day making earlier ‘forecasts’ irrelevant. One might as well just look out of the window.
Better would be slightly more generalised comment, which is shown on the presented weather forecasts. The probability percentages are absurd. In the locality, the probability of rain is 0 or 1. This is significant of changing the level of analysis. Scattered showers might refer to London as a whole, say, but not Honor Oak Park - a tiny area. And 10% probability is reminiscent of Groundhog Day - if you live this day 10 times, on one of them it will rain.
So, earlier this morning the weather forecast said >5% rain at 8:00. Then it said 60% rain, but it hasn’t rained. It is grey, it looks threatening, so I shall take an umbrella. Buuuut, I watered the garden yesterday evening because I cannot rely on the forecast.

Brilliant APP! Fair Play!
Easy to Navigate and Use. Pleased to see routine at top of Screen giving the Option to: Split,Slide and Something Else, but also the Facility to “CLOSE” the App! When I first installed the App, that Option Was Not There! But for me it is extremely useful, as I usually only Want or Wish to normally have only ONE APP OPEN AT ANY-TIME TO WORK ON or INVESTIGATE. I personally Hate Clutter. Does Not Impress me At All! Best wishes and Thanks for an Excellent, Educational, Extremely Enlightening, Clear & Concise , Useful Application. I am fortunate to sail often, so find the alternative information regarding Weather at Sea extremely useful! Even the Cosmic side of things! I've been using the app for quite some time and it's really good most of the time. When you come up with your next update please consider making it easier to see which day I am looking at -there is a very thin line between the days of the week across the top of the screen and if this could be thicker on the one being viewed it would be easier for my ancient eyes. Thanks.
The other app I use gives very accurate detail, such as: “ rain in ten minutes for 30 minutes “ which is so very helpful dodging showers. Please consider adding that to this app if possible.

Keen gardener with solar panels therefore weather is important. The met office app is the most reliable, it is updated frequently which does update including significant changes ( especially useful if you live on the edge of weather boarder area where cloud boundary can move ).
The 5 day forecast is useful and also updated frequently.
Being able to save different locations is really handy as the local forecast can differ to a generic city forecast .

Very informative App, clear and concise. I use this App several times a day. Reliable to use. As the weather in my area (River Mersey) changes so quickly, I have to keep checking. If you are an outdoor person worth downloading this free App. Mike the Bike winter 2021
I wrote the above comments as you will notice Winter 2021. I can honestly say a year later, they still apply. With one of the driest and hottest summers I have known since 1976 I needed to be informed of the temperatures to make some outdoor decisions.
The weather changes so rapidly and it is good to see that the App is updated frequently. A late forecast the day before travel can be updated and by the time of departure has changed. Thankfully, it is now a routine just to keep checking.
Our climate in the UK appears to be altering so the App gives me that clear and precise detail of where I am travelling to.
I wouldn’t leave home without checking the weather and glad the Met Office think the same way and provide the data I need.
Thank you
Mike the Bike

UPDATE Nov 22
The new animated synoptic chart map is excellent. Thank you Met Office. The coverage is across much of the northern Atlantic and the animation controls are very good.
Overall this map is getting better and better. My main gripe is with the synoptic chart in the map options. It shows too small a picture of what is happening with too little data. This really needs to expand into the west Atlantic and North Sea to get a decent picture of what weather is approaching. Anyone interested In looking at this element of the app. wants to see more than you make available. Why not make the full met office synoptic charts available?

The new app is a lot better than the original version, takes a bit of getting used to, but well done. I know it's a beta version but good work. After the latest update I love the way you can run the weather map through to see how much or how little rainfall you may get. It’s getting pretty accurate with the occasional unexpected rain etc! The latest update is great , you can see how the weather changes and why sometimes it might rain or when you have low pressure etc.

I live on the border of East Anglia & Lincolnshire, and I’ve used the app most days for a few years. It’s quite accurate. It usually rains when the app says it’s likely too and the wind direction and speed are usually about right (important to know when your central heating boiler is fuelled by anthracite). The satellite view of the rain forecast gives a visual image of what’s likely to occur locally and nationally. I like that.
The temperature forecasts are the least accurate feature, but The Met Office forecast the weather, no one on Earth can yet guarantee it. It’s good to be able see temperature in degrees F as well as C. For us gardeners, it’s a useful frost indicator, but it’s only a guide!
I’ve never taken any notice of the pollen forecast, not being a hay fever sufferer, so can’t comment on that.
I don’t often watch the national video forecast, as its is too generalised to be of much use locally.
The app gives me much of the same information for the region of Germany where a relative lives. I wasn’t expecting that! It’s nice to know what their weather is like, compared to ours.
Overall this is a super app. There’s loads of pretty accurate weather info. The narrow ad banner at the bottom of the page isn’t too intrusive. It’s a small price to pay for so much information.

The Met Office is still the best forecaster

Forecasting the weather seems to be difficult as pinning the tail on a donkey galloping past at light speed. But over the years, I have found that the Met Office is able to make a highly educated stab at it with a good degree of success - for that reason alone, their app is the one I turn to first.
And I think the it works very well, giving me what I want to know in a tidy and logical fashion. For those would complain that it is over complicated, this is because the world’s weather is complex and its forecasting even more so.
I’m very happy 🌞

I love the Met Office weather app; I’ve been using it for years, and generally find it to be the most accurate of all the services I’ve tried, at least for the U.K. I particularly appreciate the weather maps, which give you not only a detailed graphical forecast for the next couple of days, but also a really granular (moving) picture of what the weather has been for the last 6 hours (e.g. overnight ), which I absolutely love. If that duration could be extended beyond 6 hours, I’d be ecstatic.

This is my preferred app for uk weather. It is surprisingly accurate for later in the same day and pretty good for tomorrow’s forecast. Some apps only really do London and then guess the rest, but this is all uk, and good. They can take a couple of hours to update, and it is often out of sync with the web site. Once you get used to the cloud map it is probably more accurate than the % predictions they give, though for the next hour or so, you can’t beat going outside and looking at the sky.

I used to only have the weather app installed but then a friend told me to download met office and I said no because I liked my other weather app (that isn’t very accurate) but after a while they convinced me enough to download it and at first it was extremely confusing to me about how to work it and all but after a week or so I knew all the controls and how it worked, I do not regret downloading it as it is usually correct except sometimes some errors, you never know exactly what’s going to happen about the crazy weather Scotland has!

Better wind than rain

I greatly value the wind gust forecast. As a cyclist, this is more important than either steady state wind or precipitation.
Regarding precipitation, I am less convinced by the probability estimates; they seem to relate more to the volume of rain than to its likelihood. For example, my (admittedly anecdotal) impression of the 10% forecast is that this more often than not coincides with rain but this is usually light. It would be more useful to give two figures: one for probability of rain and the other for an estimate of how heavy.
Finally, I can make no sense of the summary symbol used for a day’s weather (sunny, cloudy etc.). This seems to bear no relation to the most featuring hourly symbol for the day; a day with mainly sunny hourly symbols but a few cloudy ones might have cloudy for its day symbol. Perhaps the developers could add an explanation to the app, detailing how the summary symbol is determined.
My bottom line, however, is that this is well written and very useful app.

It is Great in parts. However I often find that there are three different forecasts on display at the same moment. So I have to use my own interpretation of last 6 hours to give accurate short term forecast. No cloud cover or pressure options on maps. You can not see when the video forecast was updated. It can be out of date, well behind the “Last 6 Hours” an even “next 24 hours" I find that I have to use my own interpretation of last 6 hours to give accurate short term forecast. ” Previous versions had more’ Layers’ that you could select from. In particular I miss ‘Cloud & rain’ You also used to show when each section was last updated At the top you waste screen space by duplicates of wind forecasts. Overall you could do better!

The Data is great: but the UX has done backwards

Weather data is great, but App design gets worse with every update. The Met Office Developer responded, claiming that they undertook User Research to drive these changes! No doubt they did it on the cheap, and went down to the nearest Care Home.
Surely the Search icon (top right) was obvious, and you only needed to try the Edit icon (top left). And if you click on Any Day it opens up the Full Forecast. This is an App. You try stuff. Icons are used for a purpose. They are shorthand for words. The Met Office use Symbols (icons) all over their Weather maps, and have done for years. People learn by exploring. I give up!
So they have updated User Experience again and made it worse! We now have a Search box above, taking up more space, and they didn't listen to our feedback. Please fire your UX designers and employ someone who knows what they are doing. Last update added "View full forecast" Why? Total waste of space. Totally unnecessary feature, which adds nothing and spoils UX. Please, please, please remove completely.
Now we have ‘Edit’ and the huge Search bar (with words to explain its function) stubbornly remains. heaven help us.
And then they added a Footer for Maps & Warnings!

Very good overall, but one limitation.

I rate this app because the forecast seems pretty reliable on the whole – certainly short-term. The video weather forecast is useful for getting a broader picture than the local one, and it’s kept up to date.
My one complaint is the symbols used to summarise the weather for the day. There needs to be more options, as there can be a string of cloud symbols for the week, which is very disheartening to see, but sometimes when you open up the forecast for one of those days, you see a lot of symbols for sunny intervals during the day. I saw one day where there were sunny intervals symbols from 1pm to 9pm, which made for a very nice day in reality, but if you looked at the symbols for the day, it was just cloud, presumably because the hours of cloud, including the less relevant hours during the night, mathematically outnumbered the sunny interval ones. So there needs to be something that reflects the overall picture of the day better in that instance – perhaps a cloud with sun rays coming from it, but without the sun showing clearly as it does for sunny intervals.

I like and use all the infornation this makes available. This is very good. Although i like to watch the video forecast and do regularly, it is difficult to listen to because they dont talk objectively, they make some weather negative and some positive and they use very emotive language when deecribing the forecast. No wonder the english are miserable, they are perpetually disappointed because they are conditioned to constantly hope for the type of weather they rarely get. Just say it factually and leave your opinions out of the forecast. Apart from that, this is an excellent app and the weather warnings are useful.

I’ve come from NZ so my review is in comparison to the NZ Met Service app.
This Met Office app does what it says on the tin and works well. Allows some customisation so the user can adjust what units they see. Here are some features to add to lift the quality of this app:
1. Extended forecasts on maps — currently limited to next 24 hours on the map. I understand forecast accuracy diminishes with time out from now, but if you are predicting forecasts for the week ahead (in day panels) then extending map forecast should be possible. This would allow weekends to be planned ahead.
2. Synoptic chart available for a longer forecast. Allows user to view the ‘bigger picture’ and should involve a timeline scroller as in the rain radar. Shows inbound fronts etc.
3. How many layers to wear today based on the feels like temperature. I guess this a easier to do down under but would still be handy. This may even mean showing ‘feels like temp’ as DEFAULT since that’s what the majority of users really care about.
I hope these suggestions make sense, but a great looking app that can be improved :)

It is a pity that MET Office has just joined the other developers in having me delete their apps and delete site bookmarks.
Apps are designed to make money of course, but that should be by app payments up-front, and not by mining our information for sales revenue purposes.
I was sorry to see that since these new privacy statements so many developers have done what MET has done, just put a link to their own website for us, thereby forcing us to search for this information in word search style... within their epic War & Peace length small print.
All that tells me is that I won’t like the information or they wouldn’t try so hard to make us work hard to find it.
So yes, of course I will then set aside time to read it. If I get bored I just give up – and delete the app.
Many other developers have declared, their policies, opting for the ‘warts and all’ style, and I have more respect for those who do that – and they are more likely for me to read and see if I can live them nn or aske for more information if i want it.
All of these new disclosure statements has shown me not to trust any app or site – even my local borough council’s app has gone as they were selling information, such as why I’m getting gardening ads… I pay for the garden recycling for my gardener to use as I’m housebound and have no interest in gardens at all. I’d rather pave it all and have done with it.

I’ve been using this app for years on different platforms since the first available version and I’m quite pleased with it. I’ve paid for many of them, but having switched back to iPhone in the last couple of weeks I’ve not paid for this one yet. Personally I would like a few extra options. I know it’s specialist, but firstly I would love to have the mountain forecasts included. I currently download this dataset via my own pc app to print forecasts. As an outdoor instructor, I need this information and would love it on my phone rather than resorting to a desktop machine. Secondly, an indication as to the amount of rain that is forecast in mm per hour would be more useful for me than a grey cloud with 1 or 2 raindrops. Thirdly, add a layer to maps to show wind directions ( see windy app ) for what I mean. I don’t need fancy animations, static arrows are fine. Having said all that it’s still my “go to” weather app, so keep up the good work.

Still Sick of Warnings that don’t exist

Every yellow warning I have had opens the app which says we are updating our servers or servers can’t find that alert or alert never ever exists. But the app shows a yellow alert when none are said to exist from alert and yet I can open the yellow alert and read the alert that doesn’t exist or not on our servers turning off the alerts as none have ever existed or can be found or your servers but the app has them.
This review below was months ago below and still not fixed.
Keep getting repeated weather warnings, press on it to open app and it says it’s not available, yet app that was opened by it, shows a yellow band saying yellow warning, press on it in app, and it tells me the yellow warning I first pressed on that didn’t exist when it opened the app but app showed me the yellow threat of rain or wind and I get the report.
Pointless push weather warning notifications that don’t exist. And don’t work so turning them off, pointless.

Good forecast but bad interface. Can only get 2 locations showing on the screen due to the increased (and now excessive) use of padding and white space in the design over the last year. Absolutely ridiculous that there is an entire line dedicated to ‘View Full Forecast’ - instead of a simple little ‘More’ next to the location name. That’d be a much better use of screen estate.
Nice to see that the horrible UX of ‘enforced dark mode based on your iOS settings’ has been resolved with some user preferences in the app so, users can snow have iOS set to Dark but Met Office on Light.
However I’m still looking for a new provider with a condensed UI so I can see and compare many locations (options for mountaineering and climbing) at a glance.

Pressure charts

Forecast is very good and easy to locate but not so easy to find the pressure chart. I have always tried to interpret the pressure chart before looking at the forecast to get a better feel for how it is developing. This is no longer possible and there is no measure of how confident the Met Office are in their forecast which places the user totally in the hands of the forecast. Maybe that is fine for majority of users but those of us who sail need to take responsibility for our decisions and absence of the source charts does not assist our own judgments.
Otherwise excellent but for those of us brought up on diets of Michael Fish / Suzanne Charlton etc etc are deprived of the source data they always used to stand in front of.

Nice app, though the picture which we always used to look forward to has disappeared on the latest version.
One definite change for the worse however is that it’s getting bigger and bigger on the front screen. It used to be easy to look at the weather in a few places at once (I travel a lot) and it’s grown so big that you can’t do that now. We could really do with a compact display mode which just reduces the white space, removes unnecessary things like the line which says ‘View Full Forecast’ and so lets us see more on the screen. It would make the app so much better, and must be dead easy to do.

Good that there is an app and love the ad-free option for a reasonable cost. However, the layout is extremely inefficient: All the sections are split out, wasting loads of space and meaning you have to scroll to view all the info. E.g. why are there several hour scales down the page? That’s duplication taking up erotically space. The website version is much more efficient which makes the app version largely redundant. Do some UX testing, combine all the elements (like the website) and allow some user customisation over the display elements and you’d have a five star app.

The “no data” and “4hr gap” problems now appear fixed. If so, thank you developer, but please avoid Big Oops next time! The labels on the isopleths (eg on the 564dam line) now seem marginally less illegible than before(!), which is a bit better. Navigating to the charts / radar / warnings, is superficially more obscure, but now also immediately accessible via new icon bar, so fine for me.
Odd, and probably inevitable, inconsistencies between forecast and “nowcast” updates and elements (which is a source of much comment) is just a consequence of adopted approach and requires intelligent interpretation.
App speed seems ok.
(Note: if Developer Comment still appears below, it might be irrelevant to above remarks and relate to some of my earlier feedback which I have deleted to submit current post)

This app now has a 4-hour gap between the current time and upcoming weather! Not really much use. We are currently experiencing a severe thunderstorm and yet the app says only a 70% chance. More like 100% guaranteed!
This used to be a very reliable app, but since the updates on 12th Aug it now constantly shows ‘No Data’ against places and time slots. It’s random as to which locations and what time slots but constantly occurring. Whole days can be marked out like this. Sometimes it recovers after restarting the app, and sometimes it doesn’t. It can take several minutes on other occasions.
The new design may be something to do with this, but it tends to indicate a lack of rigour during testing - so often the Achilles Heel of software development - and given the importance of the Net Office weather data in the current conditions in the UK, that is a failing of project management.
As others have also reported, the detail shown in the App bears little or no resemblance to reality. As an example, today it says that there might be a thunderstorm with a 60% chance. It’s actually monsoon rain and a major storm, 45 minutes before the possibility and the App shows light rain. The granularity needs to increase as does the live data update frequency.

A well presented weather app that gives a good overview for the following hours on its front page. Just what you need to decide what to do for that day. If you want more details, then you can find it yourself.
I previously used Accuweather until they ‘upgraded’ their app, it now gives so much info for each hour, to see what the weather is likely to be doing during the day takes ages. So much for an ‘upgrade’. It’s info overload. By the time you’d got to the end of the day, you’d probably forgotten what it’s going to do in the next hour or so.
The overview, and then more detailed info on request method, is far better.

The Metrological Office weather app is one of the easiest apps to fantastic and very easy to use site provides very useful information in advance valuable information, much of which is vital. The weather warnings given for the U.K. area you select will indicate on the warning map if you are central to the warning area or on the edge. As weather cannot be 100% precision it will always include your area if you’re close to the area most likely to be affected. This can only ever be a good thing as you can be prepared. I check the weather app daily each morning, and again when the Metrological Office send out a text advising of either a warning been issued or updated

I really liked the Met Office weather app as I do think it’s the most accurate of those I’ve come across. However I think the latest version isn’t as good - the option to ‘save’ your current location has apparently disappeared so locations that aren’t searchable (anywhere except sizeable towns and cities) can’t be kept on the home page any more. My parents’ home town is in Ireland and cannot be found through the search, it would be helpful to see the weather forecast for their location when I’m not there too.
I’d also really like if I could choose Beaufort scale approximations for the wind speed units as they’re the ones most people seem to understand. It would also make sense to show Beaufort scale as the met office uses it already in the shipping forecast it issues via Radio 4.

This app has undergone many changes since the early days and improvments have been made all the time and until the latest update, was looking really slick - finally! Accuracy is quite simply the best and that has always been the case, but the latest cosmetic change where windows open up which are significantly smaller that the available screen space (particularly if, like me, you use an iPad in landscape mode) to the extent that the video forecast - a major plus of the app - is annoyingly small compared to the whole screen it used to use, as are the maps. Why make new views smaller windows instead of the whole screen like it was. Might look prettier to some, but impractical!

Unfortunately, this weather app, when applied to Sheffield S10 4LN is never accurate with forecasts for the day ahead, never mind longer predictions. Admittedly my area is no doubt difficult because of the Pennines, but nevertheless it CANNOT be relied open. Whenever I check it, the new one differs from the previous one. In fairness, other weather apps I have used are no more accurate. But what has happened to weather forecasts over recent years? Any benefits of satellite and computer predictions are sadly not of an acceptable standard.

I think the map systems you have are great but what i want from this app isn't provided in enough detail. There are many apps that do exactly what the MET is doing with their app. If you want to improve offer a longer forecast on the local selection as well as a fortnightly mapping forecast, sea weather forecast options that suggest tide, wind, wave height.
We want agricultural forecast that concentrated on humidity, precipitation and also perhaps a flooding, freezing, storm, pollen and scorching forecast map options that highlights risks to crops and livestock with an alert notification that alarms hour/days before weather incidents. Predict these in terms of risk % as well as units like ml/F/C/ppm and perhaps new scales of risk to garden and crop vegetation.
I think you are capable of this, its just whether you are motivated to adding this value to your customers and realise the complexity of your average Jo who today understands and seeks more information than is offered. We need national and local specific maps that feed from your local weather stations.

Love having real feel, wind speed, sunrise/set and short term predictions at my fingertips. As I garden and walk, weather conditions are very important to me. I find it addresses all I want to know, and do like the realfeel factor. Also like the 24hr weather map. Find the adverts don't get in the way (& they're necessary for this app).
Do find that sometimes the weather is completely different to what is predicted & go by my own sense of whether there’s rain in the air. I have been caught out several times travelling to hills for a walk then finding it’s not a fine day after all. Saying that, I think the actual accuracy is still very good and so rely heavily on this app.

With all of their computing power in the Met Office their forecast falls well short of satisfactory, only the other day I was sitting in a forest car park waiting to go for a walk, according to their forecast it should have been dry and sunny with a fresh breeze, outside the car it was a raging tempest with raindrops as big as marbles. Now if they can't get it right at that very moment nor an hour ahead what's the point, however when I tuned into Yr Norway their forecast was spot on. So my three stars may appear a little generous based on my damning write up but their App is very good and easy to use and I like the maps feature, indeed I would say the App is better than Yr's but it's not all about bells and whistles, is it!

Latest update pretty good. But annoying that the application asked me for a review while the keyboard was up effectively jamming it.
Just as I was thinking that the app was getting really good, all the content has been rearranged! A great deal of scrolling is now needed to get at some info and at the same time the interface seems jerky and less responsive.
Update: having used the new version I notice the the wind doesn't scroll properly for the last day in the forecast. This kind of issue should easily be found in testing. Consequently I have scored it 2 instead of 3 following the poor new release.
Wish I could revert to the old version ....

Admittedly the weather it forecasts is sometimes substandard, but that is because the weather is substandard, not the app.
The hour-by-hour rainfall maps are particularly informative, especially combined with the “last 6 hours” detailed rainfall picture. You can swipe your finger and see the showers sweeping through.
A really good touch is that any locations you store in the app (you can store as many as you like) appear as markers on the maps so you can say, in the middle of a conversation, “you should pop out for a walk now, you’ve just got time”.
The advertisements in the free version are not too irritating and they are easily ignored; but they are of extremely poor quality, more often frauds and scams than not. Never tap on them.
Missing features:
- An in-app purchase to select the weather you want.
- A Share button for when you’re having rain but your friend is having to water her garden.

Very easy to use app. Always locates to where you are and simple to enter other locations. Clear display and can be quickly set to show likelihood of rain, wind strength etc - whatever your preferences.
I tend to trust the met office over all the other weather sources and it is generally pretty accurate - certainly within a day or two.
I don’t know why any forecaster bothers with five-day predictions though. Unless the country is in for a clear prolonged wet or dry spell, the weather here is so changeable it is impossible to predict with any real accuracy over 5 days ahead in my opinion.

I have tried a number of weather apps over the years and although the others are good, they each have their strengths and weaknesses. The Met Office weather app for me is the best all-rounder giving everything one needs to know. Recent updates have made it considerably user friendly with a better layout and navigation. Perhaps it may fall short in some respects for meteorological enthusiasts but for the interested lay person it covers all the essentials together with a regional and national summary. I fully recommend it.

Since first review I’ve been using the phone version of the desktop site. Similar in appearance to the app, but sorts the issues I’ve got with the app ie when moving time forward, ALL the columns move together. Sort this for the app and it would so much better.
————————
The layout which has rain/wind/temperature and detailed wind separate is very un user friendly. Move the time forward on the rain/temperatures and the detailed wind doesn't move with it, so you end up with 2 lines of info out of sync.
Has been improved since the initial makeover but still long way off being finished. As a cyclist this was always my go to app as it had all the details together. Now it is a mess. Sorry!!

They finally let you jump directly to the forecast for a particular day of the week! Hooray! The app has been getting better over time and much of my initial problems (below) have been addressed.
___________
When I load a weather app, I expect a home screen which shows me what the weather will be doing in the next 24 hours or next week, but instead this app favours the next few hours at multiple locations. Also, knowing when sunrise and sunset are is incredibly important for photography, and a common, easily accessible feature on other weather apps. It's great that you can customise the home screen, but in reality most people don't need a national forecast, just a local one. The forecasts themselves are much more accurate than Dark Sky, which has become unreliable recently, but their user interface is SO much better!
