On the whole, this is a pretty good app, with webcams and a map that can show you where others have seen the aurora. It would help though if this map included the times of the user-reported sightings, which would help to decide whether they could still be seen.

The ads break the app
Used to be a 5 star app. These days, the ads are so badly integrated that they usually get stuck and I’m unable to use most functions. I’d rather pay a small subscription and go ad free. Or even better a one off purchase to go ad free

Totally useless app
I purchased it in hope that I finally might get relevant alerts to go outside and try to watch aurora. I set up the notifications and felt excited. Unfortunately the app just gave me bunch of random alerts with the message like “it is very low possibility to see aurora now… we just wanted to annoy you.” I was waken up several times in the middle of the night even if I have set strict restrictions to make any noise while I sleep. I even disabled notifications in the settings of my iPhone. No joy. It kept throwing random notifications. Last night enough was enough, I just deinstalled it. Totally useless app, not worth even a single penny.

So the app itself is ok when telling you when the northern lights are happening but the cloud coverage is wrong. I’ve been out a few times to see the northern lights when it says there is no clouds but when going out there’s no even a break in the clouds.

I saw a review that said they only saw the lights Because of this app, yesterday I went searching for the lights for 4 hours didn’t see anything and I didn’t have this app. Today I was relaxing in my air bnb and I got a notification saying there’s a high chance I’ll see the lights. We left the house straight away and when we arrived I saw them within 10 minutes. I never ever leave reviews on anything but this app is a MUST if you’re wanting to see the lights and want reliable information. Thank you so much. And it’s free !!

Used it on the last night of my holiday to Iceland and gave me the perfect details of where and around when to see them. Worked perfectly and aloud me to see the northern lights perfectly.

It’s a terrible app to interpret
The graphs that are presented have no explanation or keys. The red green and yellow bars are not explained. Red implies bad (if we are thinking traffic light) but often comes with the highest index. So is this an indication of colour of the Aurora? It can tell you that the chances are good if there are clear skies. Yet it knows the cloud cover so why doesn’t it amalgamate the information to a single statement of possibility.
Overall the information is not easy to interpret at a glance, or even upon deeper investigation. v poor in my opinion.

Alerts are brilliant
I installed this app during a recent trip to northern Norway to keep an eye on what the aurora was doing. And finally, on our last night there, it helped us spot the northern lights when we might otherwise have missed it. Furthermore, the app is very informative and taught me a lot about how these things are forecast.

Got an alert while at dinner in Reykjavik with a 15% chance and walked out to the harbour for a better view. Got some great pics with my family which we would otherwise have missed. The free version worked so well that I paid the £1.79 the same night for the pro just to say “thanks” for a great app

Really happy with this app - was great watching it daily to get updates. And seemed accurate - our tour was cancelled every day that the app rated chances as low. The first day that the app said chances improved, our tour was on - and we saw the lights!

Couldn’t have worked better.
This is a genuine review and I am writing it on the day I have returned from an arctic cruise.
This app worked perfectly! It gave me an alert informing me that there was a good chance of seeing the northern lights during the next hour. Due to this I went up in the deck of our ship and I was literally the first person there to witness the aurora appear. I got some wonderful pictures and it was a once in a lifetime experience that I am sure I would have missed if it wasn’t for this app.
I can’t rate it highly enough. It works perfectly and is free, so don’t waste your money on the other apps. Well done to the creators and a massive thank you.

I’ve never seen the aurora before. I’ve had a few warnings since downloading this app. I just really wish it would make more of an effort to tell me. One little buzz is ok if your awake but your usually asleep when the warnings come though. I’d love the app to set off some sort of alarm to wake me up.

Don’t get discouraged by low probability %
I’m not sure how useful this app is. Last night we saw pretty amazing lights in Tromsø despite the app saying there was only 12% chance and 50% cloud cover. Perhaps it’s useful if you’re in a place where the light are more rare. But if you have access to a spot with minimal or no light pollution and the sky is more on the clear side, it’s worth giving it a go regardless of the %.

Just Spent a week in the arctic circle and saw aurora 3 times - not once did this predict success above 10%. You would be better off periodically looking out of the window than relying on this.

First Time I have rated an app
I’m currently in Tromsø, northern Norway: I downloaded several Northern Lights apps but have deleted all of them except this one. This provides info in an accessible and easy to use way...I found others fiddly and annoying. (And this app is pretty brutally honest in telling me my chances of seeing the lights this week is pretty much zip! Oh well).

Such a good app
It's thanks to this app that we knew to go out and see the Northern Lights on our holiday in Iceland!! We didn't have to pay to go on a trip and managed to see them on more than one occasion! I'd recommend anyone downloading this app if you want to see the light!!
