Fabulous! (But needs a tweak)

I have been looking for something like this for such a long time! I wanted something to add my own/family recipes to (as well as clippings) and this is ideal. It is very intuitive to insert and doesn’t involve manually typing out and when using the recipe it has a great user interface.

Only downsides:

- there is no way to check the originally imported picture if there is an error in the extracted text. E.g. There is a error in the extracted text relating to the measurement of an ingredient in one of my recipes and there is no way to check the photo I used in order to make the manual edit.

The prefect app!

Absolutely love this app. It’s everything I was looking for. Importing from a website is so easy and the photo scan works very well too, more than I had expected. I have many old recipe books, so the scanner function is so helpful. Syncing between my phone and the website has been flawless so far, something which has been a problem for so many other apps I use.

Love it!

This a brilliant app! Within less than a minute you can add your recipes to this app. By taking a photo of a cookbook page for example the app recognised the text and creates a recipe. I love the design of the app as well. Now I have one recipe collective including all my cookbook recipes in one app, always available. So good!

Issues since last update

There a lot to like about the cook book. Unfortunately there are technical issues since last update - it is impossible to paste the copied text. As import doesn’t work on many pages, it makes impossible to save the recipe. It used to be easy to just copy & paste ingredients and instructions. Alias, this no longer works. While I enjoy using this app, one clearly is very dependent on how well the app is being run. I question myself if it’s wise using such apps long term.

The only cooking app I need

I love this app! Fantastic for recipe storing and doing the shopping. I can’t recommend it enough, absolutely worth the one time payment if you like cooking and do it regularly.

Feature suggestion: would be nice to have a ‘random recipe’ button? Or just ‘randomise order’ I have around 300 recipes there now, occasionally I don’t feel like scrolling through all of them and want a random suggestion.

Best app I’ve ever discovered!

I love this app and have recommended to all my foodie cooking friends who all love it too! It does exactly what it says, it’s easy to use and there are no hidden extra in-app purchases or annoying adverts popping up. My grown-up children at uni and first jobs can login and find family favourite recipes and can upload new recipes of theirs for me to try. Brilliant app, truly can’t fault it!

Recipes are not viewable on a single page

Such a shame, the ocr feature works great & seems unique. However, each recipe has to be viewed across 3 separate tabs, meaning you end up switching backwards & forward all the time, which is irritating & time consuming. Please add a view so that each recipe can be seen just on a single page, and I’ll be back. In the meantime though, the app isn’t practical enough to use.

I’ve come back to this app after a year’s absence and I have to say it has come on leaps and bounds. The editors are now intuitive and much more flexible, able to take straight text and convert it to quantity measure and comment without issue now. The addition of the shopping list to the weekly planner and the overall look and feel of the app makes it a joy to use.

Previous Review:

When cooking, the best. Easy on eyes, visually stimulating, easy to use. Photos per step, check list ingredients lists. Schedules and shopping lists. Spot on.

When Compiling recipes, the worst. Editors are clunky, not intuitive. OCR needs handling veeery carefully for a good result. And ingredient lists that HAVE to have a quantity for EVERY item? Come on... what ever happened to 'a pinch of salt'

There is a paste block editor, but it isn't as intuitive as pepperplates. Having said that there are more input options.

Good app, but we need to get our data in there simply guys, it's a lot of hard work at the mo.

Brilliant and Flawless As Far As I Am Concerned.....

My wife has been manually filing and indexing recipes for decades. I suggested that there has to be a better way and did some app research.

CookBook was not the top rated app but I liked the specification so downloaded it and it has been stunningly successful!.

Reviews have a major impact on my buying decisions and I find they have to be filtered.

I often see five star reviews that say the product arrived promptly but hasn’t been tried yet. Equally, regularly I see one star reviews that don’t speak to the product itself but the fact that it arrived late or the packaging was torn and these types of reviews are completely useless to me.

Downloading this app, initially for the benefit of my wife has been very timely as I went meat and dairy free about six weeks ago and have been trawling the Internet for recipes including meat free burgers so I can join the crowd when I barbecue and not appear to be eating something completely different.

Telling you everything this app can do would be pointless as for me it was sufficiently set out in the specification to convince me to buy it in the first place.

What I can say and hope it helps, is that this app has fulfilled and exceeded all my expectations and that I use regularly for importing recipes from all over the Internet with great success. I particularly like that I can add extra tags that I define myself but it goes much further than that and the developers deserve a real pat on the back for what they have achieved.

An added note that influences my buying is to see if an app has been recently and regularly updated which this was and continues to be.

I don’t like subscription apps and prefer to pay a one-time cost which this app allows and so for a modest price you get an amazing feature set in an app that I personally use literally most days.

I hope this review helps the developer sell even more and that it also helps those looking for a recipe app to make their decision with confidence that this is a very worthy and awesome purchase.

I chuckled to myself in using the word “awesome” as it reminded me that everything my grandchildren say is “awesome” and it is not usually a word in my vocabulary. Happy recipe hunting!

Your only recipe library

I love this app! It is so easy to import paper and digital recipes that it becomes addictive. I love the fact I can look up recipes on the go and plan the week without opening different cookbooks and laboriously listing the ingredients. It is all in one place. It also makes it easy to figure out what to cook based on what’s left in the fridge. All you need to do is search for the ingredients and the app lists all your recipes with these ingredient. One feature that would make it truly amazing is some kind of feed listing new recipes on your favourite websites. One day.

This is the best recipe app I know of. It should be a staple app of any phone.

The app cannot link directly with a users calendar. This would be useful to look at what meals are planned for the day at a glance without opening the calendar app.

No Siri or Alexa integration yet. You can’t ask Siri or Alexa “What’s for dinner?” (Which would be very useful.

I wish the calendar could be shared.

Excellent App

Very handy. Only 1 poor feature but it’s so obscure it isn’t worth taking off any stars. If I add a random item to the shopping list after having checked off a bunch of items as complete. The list resets and unchecks all completed items. This is the only problem I have found in the entire app. Other than that it is flawless and well worth getting / using. In combination with an OCR scanner it is super fast to go from a physical cookbook to this one.

Just what I was looking for

As someone who was looking for an app to build up my own recipe collection (without the clutter of other community recipes), I love this app. It is easy to put in my own recipes. The meal planning with shopping list is a nice feature. The import of recipes from websites also works perfectly.

Mais quel bonheur cette appli ! Bravo aux développeurs ! C’est tellement intuitif rapide et facile à utiliser ! J’ai enfin toutes mes recettes sous la main : mes recettes de famille, mes dernières trouvailles sur internet, les recettes de magazines ou celles envoyées par what’s app par mes amis. L’appli scann et reconnaît les étapes de la recette et les ingrédients sur les livres et importe depuis internet les recettes quelque soit la langue, français, anglais comme en italien. Crashes a lot

It’s a good recipe app but it crashes all the time without saving anything which is very irritating once you’ve spent 10 minutes adding a recipe and have to start again from scratch.

Slow and clunky

It takes ages to load and import recipes from the web. The edit button for recipes is only on the first view and not easily accessible. Unit conversion is confusing, you have to set which units it’s in to begin with before it can convert them. If you scale the recipe and then close the app it will forget this when you go back to it later.

Despite all that it does work and one price gets access on the web too which is better than the competition.

Amazing app but calorie tracker would make a great addition!

I love this app as it allows me to stay organised with recipes and meal planning. However, I would love to see a calorie tracking option added to the meal planner to manage calories per meal, and to see the total number calories consumed in a day to stay nutritionally balanced!😊

The best recipe app!

I’m loving cookbook. The most useful features of this app includes:

- scan recipe from URL

- if you copy URL and opens the app, it prompts you to scan the recipe from the URL

- link back to the original recipe URL from the recipe

Not to mention the recipe scan is pretty reliable, it works 90% of the time for me.

Please improve the Steps pictures scanning though, I have to upload them manually sometimes and it’s a hassle.

Could you guys please add a “shopping list” feature?

I usually buy 2-3 recipe ingredients in one go, it’s a hassle to swap back and forth.

Also, please keep the scale settings permanently. If I slid the recipe ratio from 2 servings to 4 servings, it won’t save the next time I came back!

Excellent - exceeded expectations!

This app is brilliant - I’ve been looking for something like it for so long. I have always cut out recipes and saved them in a shoe box or had bookmarks on a webpage, but this handy apps means I can have everything in one place and I can organise it to my preference easily. You can make shopping lists, adjust serving sizes and make meal plans super simple, and I LOVE being able to take a photo of a recipe in a magazine and import it into the app. 12/10! *****

Fantastic app

I rarely write reviews but I couldn’t *not* write this one. This app is absolutely brilliant. Can’t believe I have only just found it.

It’s one of those things that has a fairly basic central function (store recipes & schedule meals) but that becomes so much more than the sum of its parts. If you’re trying to eat healthy, be more organised or save money then this app is the perfect solution.

Like most good products it just works. Saving recipes is a breeze, the web clipper is great and the scanning function is sensationally good.

It’s quickly become a “can’t live without” for me along with my iPad, Alexa, Leatherman and my chef’s knife.

A VERY helpful app, EXCELLENT

I am scanning in recipes from multiple pieces of paper, and from photographs of my favourite recipes in cookbooks. The scanning process is straightforward, with a bit of editing. Some recipes online can be imported quickly. I like the way the app picks up that I have copied a web link and then imports the recipe in the right format. The recipe layout is great, and a recipe can be printed to paper for the cooking to avoid getting cake mix on the iPad.

I would appreciate more detailed tagging capability, but otherwise very happy with this app.

UPDATED The tagging capability has exactly what I need, which is to make custom tags for my recipes.

Great for students!

Heaven in an app

This app is a god send, I’m a stay at home husband and do a lot of cooking and this has helped so much with all of my recipes, and the serving function is such a good idea! This is such an amazing app, all my recipes in one place! I use this app so much, I love it!! Also If you find a recipe on line with masses of irrelevant writing to go with it, cut and paste the address as usual and this clever little app will get rid of all the writing and only save the important stuff, how it does that I really don’t know! Perfect for our family

This app is really a life changer. I uploaded about 60 recipes within a week. Instead of constantly looking for my recipes in books, websites or app, I just save them within minutes their are ready. I can add notes, pictures, calculate proportions easily and convert from US to EU or UK. You can upload recipes from pretty much everywhere or create from scratch. It’s simple, straightforward and as everything a cooking app needs. Add tags and you can search within your recipes for specific recipes like « lunch » or « French » etc. You also can try « surprise me » which is fun and the grocery list is very useful and simply adaptable. Love it.

My new cookbook

Was apprehensive about putting my cash down upfront for this app but it’s ended up indispensable for me, and in no small part responsible for revitalising my interest in cooking.

I’ve been through a bunch of different recipe managers over the years, half of them ending up abandoned. This is by far the most well-featured one.

The sharing capabilities leave much to be desired (export to PDF lists your ingredients in a random order) and there are bugs, but the core personal cookbook is the best I’ve come across.

Considering how many millions of people cook worldwide, you would expect there to be a mountain of well-made and well-promoted recipe manager apps, but sadly there aren’t.

The fact this app has such a generic name probably hasn’t played in its favour, but it was way harder to find than it should be.

Great for collating recipes

I have just spent an enjoyable morning adding all my favourite recipes to this app from various cook books. Great to have everything in one place and to be able to plan meals and shopping lists in one place. Such a time saver and space saver (least used cookbooks now in the shed!)

LOVE IT! 💜💜💜

I absolutely LOVE this app! I rarely actually write a review but this is worth my time. I’m no professional cook, just a solid home cook but that hasn’t stopped me having loads of recipes over the years, collected on bits of paper, magazines and loads of cookery books. I’ve found loads of old recipes that I hadn’t done for years on my bits of paper. Well now the paper has been recycled and my old recipes are now digital, and at my fingertips on both my phone (if I’m out shopping, check the meal plan & shopping list! Fabulous!). All it took was taking photographs of my recipes and follow the ridiculously easy steps (which, once you remember the steps order, takes about two minutes per recipe!) adding my tags. Done and in the cloud and synced. No problems at all, smooth running, no crashing, and as it’s a cooking app... it’s easy please, lemon squeezy 😊

Good but still needs some improvements for a 5*

You can upload recipes from websites really easily (you can make manual adjustments if they don’t upload perfectly). You can scan recipes in from cookbooks and you can manually type in recipes. All very good. You can then plan your week’s recipes out in the planner and create a shopping list. I use this every week to plan my family meals. My main issue (and the main reason I didn’t give a 5*) is that there is no functionality to add items to the planner which are not recipes. So for instance you can’t add what vegetables you are going to have with each meal or plan in a non recipe meal of say “fish and chips” or “baked potatoes and salad”. I did raise this with cookbook when I first purchased the app some months ago but it’s still not possible to do this. Come on cookbook, add the functionality to be able to manually annotate the planner!

Almost exactly what we have been looking for...

Following a lifestyle change 18 months ago to cook from fresh every evening, neither of us being natural cooks, we have found ourselves spending too much time looking through our cookbooks on a Sunday planning a weeks worth of meals...

A couple of small changes would make this app perfect...

- We’d love to be able to sort the recipe list by time so that when we have a busy evening we can easily find something quick to cook

- We’d also like to be able to add items to the shopping list such as washing up liquid, squash & tea bags etc

Finally, the ingredients search doesn’t always seem to highlight recipes i.e. bought a pack of 3 peppers last week and had a yellow one left to use up... searched yellow pepper and it came back there were no recipes for that ingredient... it took me 5 minutes browsing through the recipes we’ve uploaded so far but I did find one which used a yellow pepper?

Other than that it’s fab, great work xx
