I use it for tracking reps at the gym so I’m often jumping in and out of the app.

When I do this, the keyboard sometimes disappears, I can’t click to type in tables, tables don’t load, text overlaps each other, monospace and tables are a nightmare

my letters disappear, keyboard goes infront of font changing menu when opened.

There are so many glitches in this app when frequently opening and closing. I like the functionality of the app but wish it ran smooth.

Gets a big fat zero compared to Microsoft’s OneNote. Unfortunately now I need to transfer over all my notes to OneNote. New update tries to resolve this issue but is infested with bugs When I use the highlighter it hides the text in pdf. If I change opacity of the highlighter, it doesn't remain as bright as highlighters are meant to be!!! The highlighter doesn’t recognise that its being used over text. It just runs as a maker more like.

Try using Apple Pencil - it glitches like the end of the world!

I previously would have given this app 4 or 5 stars - I make so much use of it each day !! But since iOS 17 appeared ,this app has developed a shockingly long delay between one completing typing a sentence and the first words even starting to appear on the screen !! (The problem is intermittent - and not always so extreme - and isn't always there - but when it is I usually just have to abandon using it , it's so frustrating !! ). Perhaps this is a problem that you are ignoring because it's too hard to fix? Or maybe because it doesn't affect the latest phones?? (.....I am running a second generation SE - not the latest but hopefully still long way from being shoved off the apple iOS "no-upgrade available" cliff !!). I am now looking for something free - and free of bugs - to replace it with - (which will be difficult!). PLEASE FIX ASAP !! ❌UPDATE - two months on and still performing badly!! Quite how much of the problem is due to Apple - and how much due to The Notes App is difficult to say - I suspect Apple - because I am noticing - even as I type this review - that my cursor is randomly jumping to a different part of the text every line or so - it's incredibly frustrating!!! The minute you start doing anything remotely ‘complicated’ (and by complicated I mean having a table or having text that’s more than a few lines…), this app becomes incredibly difficult to work. Every time you click somewhere to start typing, it jumps to somewhere else. Beware if you try and paste text, you might spend 10 minutes trying to work out where it’s been posted.

Absolutely great idea, NOTES. I use it for everything I want and need to record, work out and evaluate in any way. AIDS to memory and lists etc.

It is the best. This NOTES is worth a solid 10!

My only hope is that the creators work out a way when you count or alphabetise your musings that you can go immediately to any point in your text and not have to scroll down or up to where you need to be. This would take it to an 11!

I have been using the notes app for a number of years now with it being super easy and convenient to use.

However, recently it’s become incredibly bugging and frustrating to use

1. When sharing notes with someone, if they make an edit, it doesn’t instantly change for the other user and now it doesn’t change at all

2. When using the monospaced font, it makes the whole note lag and the grey shade goes all over the page

3. The app actually crashes when there’s a long note on it more than say 2 pages long

4. The notes app has become increasingly slow and genuinely needs a massively annoying

To be fair, it’s kind of pointless to leave review on this app. I cannot think of an iOS user, who a) doesn’t use Notes on a daily basis b) using Notes but doesn’t like/enjoy it. Super user friendly, excellent options that help you organise your notes, super easy access, if you use more than one device you don’t even notice how fast is the syncing, I love the brushes especially after the new ones, the ruler is super useful and I like that is lined as sometimes I need to count or need to choose of a reference point, colours palette decent.

Lots of room for improvement in blending typed wording with drawings as at the moment this is not optional.

Smart interfering with the user might be a good option. For example to get suggestions of creating a reminder based on the note I just took or create a calendar event. Don’t know if those things can practically be done but if I take GTP as an example they seem pretty easy hehe

I have been using the notes app as a complete replacement of a pen and paper notebook for almost three years. I do all my everyday note taking for work, including minutes of important meetings, in the notes app. I has been almost perfect and I chose it over other third party apps because I loved the handwriting experience from the beginning, the simplicity and the native capability to sync with my iPhone and Macbook.

However, in the last six months I have come across two problems. The first seems like a small bug, which I expected would have been fixed by now, this being that when you insert space between handwritten text you can no longer do so with precision because the text ‘jumps’ the moment you release it. This should be a small fix and it is frustrating that it has been present for so long. The second issue is much worse. It has now happened several times that after I have finished taking notes and left the application, when I return a big chunk of my notes have disappeared and I have e no way of retrieving this crucial information. Each time it happened it didn’t happen again for a while, just long enough for me to believe the issue is resolved but just when I least expect it, it happens again. This is a costly flaw and I am seriously having to consider an alternative note taking app.

I love to use this app for my own writing, (ideas,stories etc) and I recommend it if you like writing or want somewhere to digitally store your notes. Listen, this app is my absolute favourite for writing. I love the way my handwriting looks, the endless scroll feature, the simple layout with effective tools, and the organisation. But in the past few weeks of me using it, I’ve had a major problem: the app crashes after a few hours of me using it, and thus I’ll lose all my work from the past 2-3 hours. You are able to lock notes however you cannot lock notes with video, audio, tags, PDF, file attachments or using features from a newer version of Notes. Notes has become so good across the Apple ecosystem that I’ve stopped looking at and trying other apps. There are bits that I like from other apps, but Apple Notes now has such strength across such a broad range of features that it’s probably the best around if all you use are Apple devices. It means one less subscription and one less worry about your app of choice being closed down.

It would be really helpful to have a proper web clipper and also more control over tables in terms of function and looks. Aside from that, I’m very happy. I’ve just spent quite a lot of time consolidating notes from Notion and Craft. Fab!!

I urgently need apple to reply to this review.

I have very important work on the notes app and everything is just gone. The app has changed i don’t know wether it has been updated or what but when I make a new note it brings up a fresh new note but can’t do any of the fancy editing and cant even make a title.

I need the work back. It can’t be rewritten or recreated so I need it back urgently. Please apple I have no faith in your apple support system so I’m going to be honest I haven’t used that path yet I just hope someone from apple sees this and replies as it is extremely urgent.

I am a fan fix writer and thousands of hours worth of work are on these notes and I do mean THOUSANDS. So I obvious need them back and can’t accept they are gone. The app is faulty I know that even if this is the update there is something wrong. Please help me get the notes back and fix the app thank you

Notes is probably my most used app on my iphone. It’s just very easy to use for everything from simple To Do lists for work and personal life to initial drafts of reports and documents. Its just perfect for capturing thoughts and ideas that occur on the tube or in the park. I even keep a journal on it.

The only downside find is that it’s too easy to accidentally lose chunks of notes forever. It needs an undelete function please!!

Notes is amazing it is a great app and an original idea with great functionality and it is amazing that it doesn’t require wifi or has adds and I love that you can put folders inside folders but it would be even more amazing if there was a folder that requires Face ID or a password because that would add to the amazingness of the so many functions. I would love to see a pinch to zoom function added. It doesn't seem to have one and it really hinders any intricacy or detail in a note. Please consider adding. The draw functionality is hindered by a clunky way of integrating it with text and table sections, meaning you can't draw over typed text. There is a workaround by creating a text box (via the floating drawing thing) in a drawing section and pasting text in to it, but I think it would be better if you could draw in a text section. Other than that, it's a fantastic free app for casual note taking. Please keep developing it!

Hi Just want to say I really like this app it is brilliant for all my needs but i can not understand why the lock feature does not work on notes that have video,audio,pdf and pictures in them, it does not make sense as sometimes you may drop files of these kinds into the notes for research purposes that you want to keep private so I really think the developers need to change this as that is one of the only things that lets this app down. Thanks

I would highly recommend this app to anyone. I don’t exactly use it for what it is for though! 😅 I mainly use it for writing stories and ideas for ones, just things like that. Notes changed my life. I would recommend this, a lot. If you wanted to find a nice, useable app where you can write stories, take notes, or even draw pictures to go with things, then this is what you should get!

As someone who enjoys celebrating both Halloween and Christmas, I've found the Notes app to be incredibly helpful in keeping track of my ideas for decorations, recipes, and gift ideas. Additionally, as someone who has a birthday coming up soon, the Notes app has been a great tool for brainstorming party ideas and keeping track of potential plans. Until the update about 4-5 months ago, my Notes sync’s real time between PC and iPad. Then after update the iPad started crashing and I started losing 5-15 minutes of important work without any warning. So I had to stop using my iPad - for its key use case for me. Now, even when I copy my template from old Note to new, I have to click off the the new one as only symbols appear after pasting. When I reenter the new one, it’s back to normal alphanumerics. Pls make Notes work (great) again. I now have an expensive iPad gathering dust and I wonder why…

When I retired I had the use of my old PC at home, but never touched it again. I drafted long ‚round robin‘ letters and started to write contributions for our quarterly church magazine in ‚Notes‘. I found it very useful to be able to sent my short notes via WhatsApp and longer letters and texts by email.

Initially, on my small iPad all my notes were in chronological order. After playing with the keys, I managed to get them into alphabetical order, but had no idea how to reverse that. To my great delight, the new iPad offers different ways of retrieving texts.

On my iPhone I find this a little more complicated. A ‚find‘ feature might be helpful. So would be a word-count option for my longer texts, as I have to stick to a set number of words for my published texts.

About 18 months ago I finally had enough of Evernote, their bloating product, failure to ever listen to their customers and the crazy subscription model. I took the plunge and moved fully to Apple Notes. It was a concern at first, it seemed perhaps too basic in comparison. However, it quickly became apparent that I was wrong. Apple Notes does what a notes app should do - it allows you to take and organise notes with super fast retrieval. I’ve not regretted my decision once. It’s free and never fails me. I can instantly pick up notes on my Mac, iPhone or iPad and they even appear in spotlight searches.

I only have one wish (in the unlikely event that Tim Cook is reading this post)… please, please, please could we have a little bit of table formatting? Cell resizing and colour fill is all we need. Adding this would be the icing on the cake!

For me notes are a freedom that I’ve never had in how they give me the the ability to write in the way that I do, to capture in the moment those beautiful thoughts that make me smile and so many others as I send them off in to my world of friends, notes is and are my best friend in that you can say anything and it goes nowhere and years from now you can look back at them and know that you’ve been there and can share them with your children so that they can know you to.

Above all notes help me with my Dyslexia and how to express and expand my passion of writing and understanding the written word, which makes me thankful every day for having the opportunity to use notes.

I have been an iphone user for a little while now and have been using the Notes app for ages. It had never failed me and i really

liked using it as it was convenient and easy to use. However, earlier I opened my notes app and was surprised to see ALL of my notes gone.

I had very important and personal things in my notes, including passwords, a year-long diary, poetry and stories. they were all very important to me and i don’t think i will be able to get them back. they’re not saved to my iCloud, they’re not in my recently deleted, they aren’t backed up my email or anything. Apple has not made it easy to recover them and I doubt at this point that i will be able to. Truly, truly upset. Do better.

I’ve just moved over to apple notes from GoodNotes and OneNote and I’m already enjoying using it far more than either. The fact that I can use smart folders to quickly find my tagged notes is so much more intuitive and efficient than having to scroll through a bunch of pages or even worse, an entire notebook.

My issue with it is that I experience severe lag after only a couple paragraphs of writing using the Apple Pencil. Some people have suggested to break these paragraphs up with typed text, which should remove the lag, but I shouldn’t have to do this. Both OneNote and GoodNotes handle handwriting perfectly fine for unlimited lines. Surely this should be an easy fix? Why hasn’t it been solved yet? I’d have thought that the ability to write without lag would be a given for an app so well designed for Apple Pencil, which makes it all the more disappointing that this issue exists.

It’s not completely unusable, but I do hope that this is resolved in the next update. Just that one change would change this review to 5 stars.

Issues:

- Lag when writing with pen and raising pen.

- Can’t adjust table column width

- Can no longer type in the beginning of the note if I have handwritten notes below. I often handwrite notes then clean up by typing on the top, and slowly erasing handwritten notes. The only way I could make this work was by inserting a table and deleting it to give me a line for typed text.

- Impossible to shift handwritten notes up once lines have been deleted. The adjuster for handwritten note areas just doesn’t move.

The only reason I use Apple note over any other note app because one it has built-in scan documents and you can lock your document if you have a personal information in there. And is syncs between all your Apple devices. I wish the notes app and the reminders app talk to each other example I use the Apple notes app to do my weekly shopping as it’s convenient than trying to do it on a piece of paper forgetting it at home, but I wish I could set a reminder for myself that I have written my shopping list in the notes app.

I have enjoyed using Notes for the most part, it’s been pretty reliable, a few crashes here and there and a few random slow downs, but it has never left me feeling uneasy about whether I would lose data or not. Since the recent update to iPadOS 16.3 I have lost almost an hour’s worth of notes multiple times, the lines and screen flicker when I am drawing using the Pencil, and it is terribly, terribly slow. I can draw at a reasonable pace, which Notes used to keep up with, but now there is at least a 1-2 second delay before the line/text shows up on the page. This is unacceptable. To go from a flawed but usable/working app, to basically an unusable, data losing app thanks to an “upgrade” that I can’t revert, unacceptable. Please address this immediately, or revert to the old Notes.

I really like the Notes app and have been using it for a long time. I am an artist and I use the app to jot down sketches. Recently I was enormously disappointed to notice that the textured paper option has gone from settings. The textured paper made it possible for me to use the sketches and share them on social media etc. They gave ones sketches depth.

What I cannot understand is why the option to use the textured background was taken away? What difference could it make to an app to keep an option in the background.

Unless they bring back this option, I cannot use this app anymore.

Once upon a time when Notes was first released, it was a simple but easy & robust app that was really easy to quickly dive in to make a or read a note. But in typical recent Apple fashion, that would make Steve turn in his grave, this app has been updated to add so called ‘features’ and in doing so has become extremely glitchy and infuriating to use. Fonts and styles will randomly change without asking, then sometimes your note will go blank, requiring a force quit. Syncing on iCloud is a hit & miss affair that now causes notes to duplicate themselves. Sadly will have to abandon this App in the graveyard of Apple apps along with Music. We’ll done Apple!

I love this app, have used it for the last 5 years to write and edit for my online books, but recently it has been having some bugs. Whenever i’m on the app writing, it either crashes or flashes while crashing to the point where i have to close it down and reopen it, which then makes me lose where i was or deletes what i had written. I think it needs updating to clearly fix the problem.

I hope the creator(s) do something about this, i would truly appreciate it, as i do rely on this app for my writing, because despite its recent problems, it is and has always been the best Notes App i have ever used on any device.

I’ve used this for years. I did try others but like that this links to my Apple Mac. It does regularly crash though and this has been happening for years and non of the upgrades make a difference. You can see the list of all the notes on my gmail account but when you select one the screen is blank. If I’m going shopping I take a qui screenshot because I have to switch off my phone to get it all working. I don’t have all my notes on the icloud because I live in Cumbia and the 4g on O2 (which is by far the best for signal) also drops regularly and 3G just won’t download the data. I used my iPhone 8 and now my new iPhone 13 and the error still occurs. Very frustrating but I just put up with it.

First of all, the app is simple and useful. I use it all the time. In fact I almost can’t do without it based on its simplicity. I have used other ones but I find this one safe and somewhat reliable

I am however underwhelmed by some basic things not available. Something as basic as undoing a deleted note via mobile phones. On computer of course you can do control+a but when I can’t do that on my phone. Maybe I am missing a trick here.

Secondly, when an image is placed on the page, one cannot drag it around for alignment or even resize it by a simple pinch on the edge to reduce or increase size. It would be nice to have that functionality.

Recently also, when entering notes using checklist buttons, you can’t place cursor wherever you want anymore on other items on the list want unless you click ‘done’ and then you can go to other items to edit. Why was this altered. I used to just be able to tap anywhere on the screen and make edits.

Please look into this.

I love the Notes, been using them forever and although i tried other apps that i found better in design, etc, its the efficiency of the Notes that just wins, easiest to access and works between my phone and iPad mostly simultaneously (depending what network im using - home/work/outside..)

On the other hand, i can’t believe how many iPhones have launched over the years and how many software updates on top, but no improvements (or just very minor) to the notes whatsoever since the day 1, and all i want is some basic fun/colour - colour the folders, different colour/type/size of fonts (not just differentiate between title-body), being able to highlight, also unsure why there is an option of background (lines & grids) when they cant be typed over?

I don’t normally write reviews but I really had to for this one. DOESN’T HAVE A PAGE END WHICH IS VERY FRUSTRATING . Another negetive point is that WHEN I TRY WRITING THE WRITING GOES IN ANOTHER PLACE, this held me back from writing my book, so for days I’ve been searching for other apps which were free and also supported the Apple pen(this one does) which is hard to find in other apps.

Also there is no back button so if you accidentally deleted a drawing then it’s gone forever but this hasn’t happened to me before. So I would recommend it if you’re just searching for a app to note things down and nothing more.

I’ve been a newbie Apple user for two years now and I began to use this app on my iPad. It’s actually perfect for what I need to do, able to take notes and write things during my classes. It is also handy for my phone as well.

The greatest feature for me is the ability to scan documents etc, which has come in handy when needing to scan my ID / passport for any particular reasons. It is user friendly and easy to navigate, I can make folders etc and keep everything organised.

I’m using Notes on a regular basis, meaning daily. I really love the app and managed to devise my own daily calendar and I would have given top stars based on the simplicity vs versatility of it, but the low rating is mostly for the frustration on their glitches and rubbish updates. Instead of improving the app, seams like it’s an intentional hinder to slow you down.

When pressing to continue writing somewhere in the text, it scrolls you up a few lines, then down other lines, without taking you wheee you pointed. This gets confusing and it just makes you lose focus. It happened since my recent upgrade. Also in one the previous upgrades it just added another extra line when cutting/pasting with bullet points attached.

Conclusion: it adds inefficiency to your work. Such a shame…

I’ve been using Notes for a while and like how quickly it opens, and generally how easy it is to use. However I think there are a few simple things which which would improve it.

At the moment the folder icons are all yellow, it would be better if we could choose different colours for specific folders (to highlight important ones), and to change the default colour.

Smart Folders are not as useful as they could be - recently I wanted a Smart Folder to collect all notes with the #Character #Illustration and #Prop tags. But it was empty. It turns out each note must have ALL of the above tags or they’ll be ignored. Which doesn’t make much sense. I could make a new tag and retroactively add it to existing notes, but that creates a lot of extra work for the user.

Tables are nice to have, but would be even better if they could do simple addition of all the numbers in a column.

To do lists are useful, but the option to have them show up in the reminders app could be very handy.

Change the background colour of a note. It would be a bit easier on the eyes for some of us.

It once lagged and deleted a page I’d been working on for 3 weeks (starting a new company and listed all my notes in there) and I haven’t trusted it since.

Decided to give it another go because it’s just easier to go from Mac to iPad to my phone. Well it lagged and reformatted my page and all the markups were weirdly over laid on some typed text and drawing were all over the place. Well I left it for a few seconds, maybe 5 seconds and it rectified itself but that was enough to scare me away again. This was the exact behaviour it displayed previously before it wiped that page clear before so, no I still won’t be using it. Sort it out Apple, this is poor!

I can’t believe this has been there for so long. Nothing new to Apple, they know about it, yet no fix on the horizon! My notes are constantly blank. Whenever I open a note there’s no text, nothing, pretty much ever since they introduced the dark mode. The number of times I have to restart the app every day is ridiculous. That’s the only thing that works, alway only for a while, then restart again later on. Shockingly on Apple forum their support team advices to restart the phone. Really??? I mean it’s like watching The IT Crowd… “Have you tried turning your computer on and off?” That is the level of support. And on another note… who was the genius who thought it was a good idea to paste text with formatting? I mean wouldn’t 99% of their users appreciate if the text they paste from somewhere else was not formatted?

Love this app for general note taking and the fact you can just start writing from the lock screen, however i think to compete with other note taking apps out there it would be good for the eraser to be able to erase highlighter only and adjust the size.

Would also love to be able to insert stickers, and with the option to create your own.

If these were added I’d fully move back onto notes from other apps, but for a free app it’s good.

useful app however, if you could change the password system so you can retrieve your old notes that would be great because new passwords only work for new notes so old notes are useless and if they’re important well then they’re gone forever- I’ve lost many passwords and important information after i’ve locked my note because i could not remember the password for the life of me. Or maybe change it so when you do make a new password that password unlocks all notes no matter how old that’d be great 😀.

I have used notes on the iPhone since I first started, great place for all sorts of things. And it’s so easy to use. The only criticism I can give is the lack of easy transfer or print without navigating to individual notes. For example I want to email or copy all my notes in one go to myself for a paper record I cannot do this, it’s got to be done for each individual note which is time consuming and becomes mind numbing boring. It would be nice to see the print/copy/email icons on the home page. It would be 5 stars otherwise.

I find Notes very useful. However I have a major problem. For the past couple of years or even longer although my the app is there, when I try to retrieve a note the screen is BLANK and inaccessible. The only way I have found for my notes to reappear is to switch off phone and turn on again and hey presto! They are back. This is a real drag! And yes, my phone is fully updated plus I have upgraded to the latest iPhone 13 and it is still happening. There are a load of threads about this same issue and there has been no rectification. I have written to Apple Support Community about this and they told me to contact Apple. Honestly I think I am going to switch to a Samsung of this matter is not responded to. I hope the developers of this app take note of this comment and DO SOMETHING!!!!!

I absolutely love the Notes App! I use it heavily and I rely on it insanely. For me, it’s indispensable. Firstly, the design is incredible. The rounded corners and simplicity of navigation makes everything feel remarkably modern and intuitive. Secondly, it’s productivity features are very useful. The ability to seamlessly move notes from folder to folder, the ease of making notes look presentable and keeping them safe with a biometric are all amazing. The optimisation with the Apple Pencil is also fantastic! For example, it’s ability to recognise and turn hand written words into typed text is a very nice addition. Even small things like the animations and being able to pin notes are highly appreciated. I’m also a huge fan of Quick Notes. It is an incredibly useful feature that I have used countless times in the past. Overall, I strongly believe that the Notes app is hard to walk away from and should be used as the primary note taking app for many more users!

I’ve been using it at University to make my notes. Every time I try to upload a picture within my notes, the app starts to bug and lag. On top of that, it pastes the picture at the complete top of the notes and I cannot seem to figure out how the picture can be inserted directly on the line I want it to be within the page.

Furthermore, my app crashed when i was trying to add a picture to my notes, causing all my content I wrote to be permanently erased for some reason. So much time in writing these notes were then gone just because of the app crashed and ICloud not being able to recover it.

It also takes long to load notes which were handwritten and sometimes it scares me when my notes don’t load up and the page is blank, only for my writings to appear after about 10 seconds of opening the page.

I wouldn’t recommend using it for important stuff as they can be lost if the app bugs. If something can be done to fix these constant bugs and issues, many thanks to reach out to me.

I’d go to 5-stars if Apple could integrate Notes seamlessly with Reminders and Callander! Something akin to the app ‘Sorted’ but with the fluidity of Notes in terms of formatting. Native Apps are always my preference to keep clutter down.

I’ve always liked Notes for ease and speed and simple interface. More recently it’s organisational methods and functionality have improved. Sorted has some tricks Apple

could learn from for splitting, reorganising and scheduling too.

I look forward to using it on an iPad eventually too with Apple Pencil! This review is iPhone only.
